(Ghost Rider III#2 (fb) - BTS) - Deathwatch, the owner of International Contractors Unlimited, sent Blackout out to find information on the whereabouts for one of their clients of stolen canisters.

(Ghost Rider III#2) - Blackout invaded the home of Detective Frank Lorretti at the Jamaica Estates, shut off the power and drenched it in darkness. He easily overpowered Lorretti and threatened to kill his wife and son if he didn't give him the information he asked for. Lorretti didn't resist, but Blackout still killed him and his family. Blackout then took Loretti's notebook, which gave him the address of Ralph D'Amato, one of the Cypress Pool Jokers, that were involved in the theft of the canisters.

   Blackout returned to the offices of International Contractors Unlimited to inform Deathwatch of his progress in locating the canisters. Deathwatch tapped into Blackout's mind to witness and experience the murder of Detective Lorretti. Neither Blackout nor Deathwatch knew why Blackout was one of the few that didn't experience pain while Deathwatch used his powers on him. Blackout informed Deathwatch that he would track down the Cypress Pool Jokers next to persuade them to cooperate before Deathwatch reminded him how anxious their clients were to get their hands on the canisters.

   Blackout invaded the home of Ralph D'Amato in Cypress Hills at midnight and after killing the power of the house and the teenager boy's parents, confronted young Ralph, who was stumbling through the unnatural darkness created by Blackout. Blackout wanted to know where the canisters were, but Ralph broke free and ran to his parents, who were dead. Ralph fell out the window, but was saved by Ghost Rider, who was attacked by Blackout because he was interrupting his investigation. Blackout hit him over the head with a shovel and tossed him through a wall, but when neither did any damage to Ghost Rider, Blackout decided not to continue his interrogation of Ralph and just left.

(Ghost Rider III#3) - Deathwatch invaded the 75th Police Precinct in Brooklyn with his ninjas and Blackout where two of the canisters had been brought to. At the same time Pauline Stratton of the Cypress Pool Jokers was interrogated by Detective McDermott at the precinct about the whereabouts of the third canister. Deathwatch and his men massacred the police officers at the precinct while Blackout retrieved the two canisters. McDermott was killed as well, but his dying thoughts didn't help Deathwatch at all to find the third canister. He hoped Paulie would be able to help and in the grasp of Blackout she was forced to lead her kidnappers to the Cypress Hills Cemetery and the rest of her gang, but they were still unable to locate the missing canister. Blackout killed Paulie's friend Angel to jog her memory and Deathwatch threatened to have more of her friends killed if she couldn't remember where the canister was. The madness was interrupted by Kingpin's men and Deathwatch agreed to hand over the canisters to them because they were outgunned by them, but Blackout wouldn't give them up and began slaughtering Kingpin's men. Paulie finally remembered that they put the third canister in Matz's mausoleum and led Blackout and the ninjas there. Blackout retrieved the third canister, but was attacked by Ghost Rider as soon as he stepped out of the mausoleum. They fought and Ghost Rider prevented Blackout from opening one of the canisters, but Blackout wasn't scared of Ghost Rider's Penance Stare and just bit him with his mechanical fangs. The bite backfired because as soon as Blackout's teeth made contact with Ghost Rider's Hellfire, it burned Blackout, fused the canisters together and sterilized the neuro-toxin inside them. Blackout fled the scene with his now disfigured face.

(Ghost Rider III#7 (fb) - BTS) - Hidden in darkness Blackout secretly followed Dan Ketch and saw him transform into Ghost Rider at Cypress Hills Cemetery.

(Ghost Rider III#7) - To take revenge on Ketch, Blackout snuck into the N.Y.U. Medical Center and after murdering janitor Manny Tilton, who was sent downstairs to fix the lights that had gone out, made his way to the 9th floor and went to the room with Dan's comatose sister Barbara. He explained to her how he found out about Dan's secret identity not long after his beautiful face had been mutilated by Ghost Rider and swore to kill everyone Dan loved as revenge. The first to die was Barbara that day.

(Ghost Rider III#8 (fb) - BTS) - Blackout kept following Dan Ketch around the city and ripped a girl's throat out in front of the Chinese restaurant Dan Ketch and his girlfriend Stacy Dolan were eating at.

(Ghost Rider III#8) - The next day Blackout murdered newspaper vendor Theodore Larsen and his dog Georgie shortly after Dan and Stacy Dolan had bought a newspaper from him.

   Blackout murdered Father Michael McDonald inside the confessional minutes after Dan had visited him to thank him for his support after Barbara's death.

(Ghost Rider III#8 - BTS) - Dan was shocked to learn about both men's deaths from the news and went out as Ghost Rider to find Blackout, who he already thought was responsible (because he was haunted by nightmares that included Blackout).

(Ghost Rider III#8) - A young girl had just been saved by Ghost Rider from a Morlock at Cypress Hills Cemetery when she ran into Blackout's arms just moments later. She didn't survive the encounter.

(Ghost Rider III#9) - Blackout kept following Ketch and attacked a vagrant named Eddie G. at Cypress Hills Cemetery that had just ran into Dan Ketch moments earlier. Ketch turned into Ghost Rider to save Eddie from Blackout, but before he could take him out for good Ghost Rider was shot to pieces by the H.E.A.R.T. group and then pulled beneath the cemetery through a crypt by a Morlock. Blackout was intrigued.

   Blackout watched Dan hang out with his girlfriend Stacy and their friends Jack and Pia. He followed Dan and Stacy to Stacy's home, but decided not to kill her that night. Blackout instead followed Ghost Rider to the caverns under Cypress Hills Cemetery where he tried to lure the children protected by the Morlocks to him. He also went after their mutant protector Pixie, whom he nearly drained of her blood after avoiding an attack by Ghost Rider. Before she died she made Ghost Rider promise to bring the children to safety. He succeeded only to get trapped in a battle with Blackout that saw them both buried alive under the cemetery. Ghost Rider escaped, but Blackout's fate remained a mystery.

(Ghost Rider III#14 (fb) - BTS) - Blackout killed several people in Central Park and took their mutilated bodies down into the sewers.

(Ghost Rider III#14) - The pile of bodies caused the sewer to back up and the smell alerted the authorities, who sent down city workers Ralphie and Norton to deal with the problem. They discovered the bodies and moments later became the next victims of Blackout.

   Blackout headed to the Midtown Manhattan offices of Deathwatch and made it clear to his former employer that he wasn't working for him anymore since Deathwatch's betrayal led to his disfigurement. Deathwatch acknowledged that Blackout felt betrayed, but reminded him that they had a common enemy in Ghost Rider. He also promised Blackout to help him get his face fixed. Blackout assured Deathwatch that his day would come and demanded from Deathwatch to tell H.E.A.R.T. that Ghost Rider was his to kill and that it would be the last job he would do for Deathwatch. Blackout left a head behind for Deathwatch, who immediately called H.E.A.R.T.'s leader Tyler Meagher to inform her that the trap for Ghost Rider had been set.

(Ghost Rider III#15) - Benytha and her mother took a shortcut through Central Park during the night and Blackout took them captive and drank some of the the daughter's blood. Blackout smelled the wounded Ketch's blood, who heard Benytha's scream and headed for the source. Blackout mocked the injured and powerless Ketch, but the mother distracted him long enough for Ketch's bike to arrive and grant him the powers of Ghost Rider once again. Ghost Rider was ready to punish Blackout and end his killing spree, but was shot in the back by Blaze. Blackout fled the scene, but Ghost Rider soon after Blackout again after pushing Blaze to the ground. Ghost Rider was held up again for a moment when Tyler Meagher shot him, but after destroying her weapon he was once again after Blackout, who had kept Benytha as insurance. Blackout threatened to kill her if Ghost Rider didn't allowed him to leave. Blackout promised to get Dan Ketch one day without his powers and kill him, leaving the Spirit of Vengeance without a host and unable to prevent any more of Blackout's killings. Meagher shot Blackout, who dropped Benytha, and then got ahold of Blackout before he could pick her up again. Ghost Rider told Blaze to shoot them both and the fire burnt Blackout's face further. Blackout was arrested by the police.

(Ghost Rider III#54 (fb) - BTS) - Deathwatch handed over reporter Linda Wei and her services to make Ghost Rider look bad (and whatever else was going on) to Blackout, who told her that Ghost Rider was Dan Ketch. Blackout professed his love to Linda, but it remained very one-sided because Linda was actually scared of him.

(Spirits of Vengeance II#4 (fb)) - Blackout fought with Ghost Rider in the streets of New York City and fled after throwing Ghost Rider on the hood of the police car driven by Michael Badilino's father. Mr. Badilino shot at Blackout and Ghost Rider, who blamed Badilino for Blackout's escape.

(Ghost Rider: Vengeance Forever#1 (fb)) - Blackout captured Johnny Blaze and kept him locked in a coffin in the backroom at the Hellrazor Hideaway bar in Idaho. Ghost Rider (Ketch) found the bar and fought his way through the bikers serving Blackout while the Lilin feasted on the flesh and blood of a woman. Ghost Rider then pulled Blackout with his chain behind his bike through the streets. The chain attracted lightning that hit Blackout as well. (Ketch later returned to the bar to free Blaze.)

(Ghost Rider III#25 (fb) - BTS) - The Firm took Blackout to their Evergreen Hospital facility and put restraints on him while taking care of his wounds. They secretly put a tracking device on him.

(Ghost Rider III#25) - At the Firm's facility Stern showed a number of employees and Blackout a video of Ghost Rider's most recent run-in with one of their technicians they had drugged and fired to trick into a fight with Ghost Rider. The information they gained from the attack on Ghost Rider was valuable and the reason why Blackout was there. Stern promised to restore Blackout's facial features in return for Blackout capturing Ghost Rider for them. Blackout agreed to the deal and his restraints and power inhibitor were removed. A guard told him that infrared light will come on immediately if he caused problems. The Firm sent surveillance teams out and then released Blackout to capture Ghost Rider even though Stern didn't trust him. Blackout wasn't too happy about the surveillance teams and took them out by feasting on their blood. He then ripped out the tracer behind his ear and destroyed it before contacting Stern and telling him that he would take care of his face his own way and wasn't working for the Firm anymore. A short time later Blackout called Dan Ketch and threatened to kill someone close to him because he knew were all the people close to Dan lived. He promised to kill them all if Dan came after him as Ghost Rider.

(Ghost Rider III#25 - BTS) - Blackout kidnapped Dan's mother, Jack D'Auria, Stacy Dolan and her father before Dan could reach them and left behind messages for him.

(Ghost Rider III#25) - Dan found his loved ones and believed them to be dead, but Blackout revealed that they were just unconscious. Blackout grabbed Dan by the throat, tossed him through a wall and then killed him by drinking his blood. Dan's corpse turned into Ghost Rider even though Dan's spirit had left it and fought Blackout at the cemetery. Blackout kicked Ghost Rider off and ran away, lamenting that he had ruined his chances to get his face fixed by the Firm for nothing because Ghost Rider was still alive. He tried to take a child hostage, but Ghost Rider caught up to him. They fought, but Badilino's unit was called and they stopped Ghost Rider from killing Blackout. He escaped for the moment, but was confronted at gunpoint by Stern at the cemetery. Blackout overpowered Stern, but his teeth couldn't penetrate his skin. They struggled long enough for Ghost Rider to catch up to Blackout, who took them both because they were both murderers.

(Ghost Rider III#25 - BTS) - Ghost Rider took them to a mausoleum and hid with them inside a stone casket.

(Ghost Rider III#25) - The next morning Ghost Rider left the casket and chained it shut, leaving Blackout and Stern trapped inside.

(Ghost Rider III#28 - BTS) - Blackout and Stern worked together to free themselves from the stone casket. Blackout made a meal out of all the other criminals Ghost Rider had placed in the mausoleum.

(Ghost Rider III#28) - When they confronted Ghost Rider inside the mausoleum he seemed to be in a trance and Blackout decided to take a shot at biting him again, but it drew him into the vision Ghost Rider and Dan Ketch were currently trapped him and he saw Lilith, who he believed to be his mother. When he got back to his senses Blackout fled the mausoleum with Stern even though it was surrounded by Badilino's unit. Badilino sent members of the S.W.A.T. team after them. Before Ghost Rider, Blaze and Caretaker could catch him again, Blackout made it to a bike Ketch had stored in another crypt some time ago. He escaped after telling them that Lilith was coming and she would help him shed his human shell.

(Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance#1) - Blackout found Lilith in a church somewhere in New York City with her children Creed and Pilgrim. He watched them through a window and was noticed by Creed, who attacked him and dragged him through a window. Lilith felt an aura around Blackout that made it clear to her that he was one of the Lilin, possibly a grandchild of hers, and that he could lead them to Ghost Rider and Blaze, two of her destined enemies. Pilgrim teleported Creed and Blackout the the Quentin Carnival's current location and Blackout could hardly wait to kill in Lilith's name. Creed made it clear that Blackout was only going to kill someone if he was told to and didn't take kindly to Blackout threatening him in return. Blackout didn't understand why Creed was even there if he despised killing so much, but Creed had his obligations to his family. Blackout and Creed found Blaze's family and Blackout lured John Blaze into a trap, but couldn't sink his teeth into John's neck before Ghost Rider pulled him off and tossed him into another trailer. Creed had to hold back Blackout before he could ruin their plans. They kidnapped John's son and escaped through a portal opened by Pilgrim. Blaze and Ghost Rider found the three Lilin and Craig. Blackout held on to Craig while Creed tried to kill Ghost Rider. A shot from Blaze's Hellfire shotgun hurled Creed against Blackout, who dropped Craig by accident. Blackout tried to go after Blaze again after Creed was shot to pieces by Blaze, but Ghost Rider beat him up until Pilgrim opened a portal right behind Blackout. Blackout dropped through the portal with Ghost Rider's chain still around him and was back in Creed's church. Lilith left Creed's head behind and left with Blackout and Pilgrim to find more of her children.

(Morbius: The Living Vampire I#1) - Lilith tracked down Fang and Nakota to a nightclub that once was a cathedral. Blackout punched some guy in the face for no reason before guarding Lilith while she conversed with her two children about killing Morbius, another member of the team of her destined enemies.

   The plan to kill Morbius failed. Blackout had a drink while Lilith planned to kill one of her less powerful enemies first.

(Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance#3) - Pilgrim teleported with Lilith and Blackout to Chatham, New York to find the Lilin Skinner. Blackout was surprised to find a man with wife and child, who attacked them for having the audacity to come to his home. He hunted them down, but changed his tune when Lilith showed him that she had returned for real as Pilgrim had told him. Blackout suggested to take Skinner's with them to ensure his cooperation, but Skinner had no qualms killing them to show his loyalty to Lilith.

(Ghost Rider III#31) - Blackout and the other Lilin watched Lilith mourn the death of Meatmarket at the hands of the Nightstalkers. Lilith had enough and ordered Pilgrim to take her and the Lilin to Greenland. Blackout's skin was hurt by the sunlight, but Lilith basically told him to just get over it while she prepared to use the Leviathan as a focal point to return her children. Her plan was opposed by the Nine (Midnight Sons). Blackout got into it with Morbius. He helped Fang hold Ghost Rider for Lilith, but got kicked off by Blade. He tried to protect Lilith from Blade and was slain by him.

(Ghost Rider III#41 (fb) - BTS) - Lilith devoured the remains of Blackout and the other Lilin to regain her strength.

(Ghost Rider III#41) - Outcast ripped open Lilith's belly so that the Lilin that had been slain, including Blackout, could be reborn. Blackout loved how his face was whole again and couldn't wait to repay Lilith for what she had done for him, including the increased strength Lilith had given to him. Lilith wanted the death of the Nine and Blackout immediately went over to Nakota to force her to show him the location of Dan Ketch and then have Pilgrim take him there and help him. Pilgrim teleported with Blackout to New York City shortly after, but before going after Ketch, Blackout decided to sated his increased craving for blood on couple in a car. Pilgrim created a rift in the street to detain Seer and Ketch, who rode his bike right into it. Blackout pulled Ketch from the rift and reminiscent about both their deaths and rebirths. Ketch turned into Ghost Rider when he saw the blood on Blackout's lips and began to beat him up, but Blackout pushed him off due to his increased strength and then escaped with Pilgrim through a portal after telling Ghost Rider that he would visit Ketch's mother.

(Ghost Rider III#41 - BTS) - Blackout used his light-dampening powers at Frances Ketch's home, but stayed hidden until Ghost Rider arrived.

(Ghost Rider III#41) - Pilgrim opened a portal and Blackout pulled Frances through it to the kitchen in front of Ghost Rider, who punched a hole through the wall. Blackout threatened to have Frances killed by Pilgrim, but offered to spare her in exchange for Dan Ketch's life. Unfortunately for Blackout Ghost Rider couldn't control his transformation, but he could still save Frances by hitting Pilgrim in the face with his chain. Blackout jumped at Ghost Rider, but got stabbed in the forehead with a part of Ghost Rider's chain that got then absorbed into his head. Blackout was shocked that his beautiful face was already damaged again and fled with Pilgrim through another portal.

(Ghost Rider III#42) - In Centurious' hideout Blackout freaked out because he still felt like something was in his head where Ghost Rider had struck him. He begged Lilith for help, but instead Centurious cut into Blackout's head and pulled out a link of Ghost Rider's chain he could turn into a whole chain. Blackout stayed on the ground after his face was once again severely damaged, but was told by Lilith to get back to his feet because he was a Lilin now.

(Ghost Rider III#43) - Blackout was along for the ride with Outcast, Lilith and Centurious when they teleported to a crypt in Cypress Hills Cemetery so that Centurious could get his hands on the pieces of the Medallion of Power Caretaker had. The roof of the crypt was blown off when Zarathos emerged from Centurious' form after he touched the Medallion of Power.

(Ghost Rider III#44) - After Lilith opened a rift to the Shadowside, a mist spread from Cypress Hills Cemetery across New York City. Blackout was joined by the Lilin Dark Legion and Meatmarket in an attack on a police station nearby. Lt. Michael Badilino turned into Vengeance and went after Blackout when the bloodthirsty Lilin went after a child. Blackout took a beating from Vengeance and eventually also Ghost Rider, but soon the heroes were surrounded by Lilith, Zarathos and many Lilin and Doctor Strange teleported the good guys to safety.

(Morbius: The Living Vampire I#16) - When Martine Bancroft, controlled by the Lilin Parasite, shattered the mystic barrier from inside the Sanctum Sanctorum, Pilgrim teleported the Lilin, including Blackout, Lilith and Zarathos inside. Blackout and Outcast went after Doctor Strange and Blackout was going to suck Strange's blood, but Caretaker hit both Lilin with his shovel. Sam Buchanan then took the fight to Blackout.

(Marvel Comics Presents I#144/1) - During the fight at the Sanctum Sanctorum Ghost Rider caught Blackout with his chain and hurled him around.

(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#60) - Blackout broke through a window and promised Caretaker to save his blood for last, but Caretaker told him that he couldn't handle his blood. Doctor Strange destroyed the Sanctum Sanctorum when he realized that it was lost and the Lilin had him and his allies surrounded.

(Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance#17) - Doctor Strange and the other heroes escaped Blackout and his kind through a mystic door opened by Caretaker that led to a bar.

   Later at Cypress Hills Cemetery Blackout and Outcast got another shot at Blaze and Ghost Rider, but they were saved by the Nightstalkers. Ghost Rider, Blaze and Vengeance eventually joined forces to close the rift to the Shadowside, which pulled Lilith and her children back to their dimension.

(Nightstalkers#15) - Blackout remained on Earth because he was only part Lilin. The Nightstalkers hunted him down, but were teleported away by Doctor Strange only seconds before they caught him because he really needed to tell them about a greater menace.

(Alpha Flight I#121) - Blackout was one of the criminals attending Brass Bishop's auction of the corpses of Auric and Silver somewhere in Canada. The auction was interrupted by Alpha Flight and Spider-Man, but Blackout avoided battle.

(Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider#2) - The Broker found Blackout eating fireflies in the farthest corner of Cypress Hills Cemetery. Blackout gladly took Broker's offer of more power and later aided him in freeing Scarecrow from the Ravencroft Institute. Blackout nourished his hunger on the guards.

   On Broker's orders Blackout lured Dan Ketch into a trap by attacking innocent people. He was ordered not to kill Ketch, but still wanted to taste some of his blood. Dan's girlfriend Stacy Dolan shot at him, but nearly ended up killed for her audacity if not for Dan turning into Ghost Rider and saving her. Blackout easily caught Ghost Rider's chain and pulled him from his bike. For a second he thought about biting Ghost Rider, but remembered what happened the last time he did that. Ghost Rider gained the advantage over Blackout again, but Blackout used his new power to shoot Darkforce from his hands to trap Ghost Rider long enough for Blackout to escape with Stacy as his hostage.

(Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider#3 - BTS) - Ghost Rider attacked three of Deathwatch's former ninjas because they had worked with Blackout in the past and he hoped they knew where he took Stacy. They were no help.

(Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider#3) - Blackout and Scarecrow attacked the quiet village of Rhinebeck, New York where Scarecrow had lived during childhood. Blackout the whole village in darkness and absorbing so much light grew his strength immensely. They were both ready to feast, but Ghost Rider and Blaze had already arrived. The two heroes encountered Scarecrow first, but while they stopped him from killing innocent people, Blackout suddenly attacked Blaze from behind. Even though he knew he had to deliver Blaze to the Master alive, Blackout still wanted a taste of his blood. Blaze shot him in the face instead and Blackout fled.

(Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider#4) - Blackout and Scarecrow returned to the Master and stood next to his throne while Stacy, Roxanne and her children were brought before the Master. Meanwhile the Broker told Ghost Rider and Blaze where to find their loved ones and they drove right into the trap. Scarecrow and Blackout tried to take away Stacy, Roxanne and the children, but Stacy stabbed Blackout with a knife. He knocked her out, which angered Ghost Rider even further. Blackout and Scarecrow wanted to aid the Master against Ghost Rider and Blaze, but the Master instead reabsorbed the powers he had granted them to fight Ghost Rider and Blaze by himself because he wanted to feed on them. The duo remained helpless on the ground while the Master was defeated.

(Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider#4 - BTS) - Roxanne called an ambulance and Blaze was sure that the police would join them and arrest Blackout and Scarecrow.

(Ghost Rider III#53) - Blackout was wandering around in a state of shock after losing his mother Lilith and was left living on the streets until three jerks tried to beat him up because they thought he was a defenseless vagrant. Blackout broke one guy's hand and fed on the blood of the other two before deciding to reclaim his old life and return to his expensive apartment on the Upper East Side. He snuck into his apartment through a window because he knew he couldn't just enter through the lobby looking like a homeless person. He questioned his own actions and thought about going back to therapy while taking a hot bath. He enjoyed a glass of wine afterward (or maybe blood) and was delighted to see in the mirror that his face had healed.

   While sitting at the fireplace he called Dan's mother and pretended to be an old colleague of his, who just wanted to catch up with him. She told him where Dan had moved to and Blackout decided to pay him a visit before returning to his old life as a professional.

   Blackout watched Ghost Rider interrupt a shootout between two local gangs known as the Stones and Marks. Blackout attacked several gang members from the dark and slew them before threatening a police officer in front of Ghost Rider. Blackout declared a truce with Ghost Rider because he wanted to return to his old life and just be left alone by Ghost Rider, but Ghost Rider wasn't okay with doing that. Ghost Rider stopped Blackout from biting the police officer and got his hands on Blackout, but the villain didn't want to fight Ghost Rider because it wasn't a paying job and broke free from Ghost Rider's grasp by tearing his own coat. He took off into the darkness after asking Ghost Rider once again to just leave him alone.

(Ghost Rider III#54) - Blackout paid Linda Wei a visit and bathed her apartment on Central Park West in darkness. Blackout killed Wayne, an executive at her network, who was with her at the time. He then turned his attention to Linda.

   After he was done with her (take a guess what he did, but it probably lacked consent) Blackout promised to dispose of Wayne's body. He told her about the next assassination he was hired for and then parted ways with Linda after handing her a rose and forcing another kiss on her. He promised to return within an hour because his job was at the nearby Federal Court Building.

(Ghost Rider III#54 - BTS) - Linda called Dan Ketch and told him where he could find Blackout. She wanted him dead because he would never stop killing (and being a problem for her).

(Ghost Rider III#54) - Blackout entered the Federal Court Building where assistant district attorney Randall Blair was still working. His wife and son were waiting for him to finish up, but Blackout was there to kill Randall. Ghost Rider interrupted Blackout, who took Randall's son Tim hostage. He threatened to kill Tim if Ghost Rider didn't leave him alone, but he quickly realized that Ghost Rider would never leave him alone. Blackout wanted to know how he found out where he was, but Ghost Rider just attacked him while Tim escaped after biting Blackout's hand. Blackout received another beating from Ghost Rider, but managed to impale him with a metal pipe. Blackout then approached little Tim again, who fell out the destroyed window. He was saved by Ghost Rider, but Blackout escaped.

   Blackout realized that Linda had betrayed him and killed her live on TV after stopping her from shooting herself in the head after she told the public that she lied in the past about Ghost Rider being a threat.

(Ghost Rider III#66) - On a bridge at F.D.R. Drive South Battery Park Blackout saved 17-year-old Alicia Walker, who had thought about ending her life by jumping from the bridge, but then decided against it and nearly fell to her death by accident. She thanked Blackout at first, but he killed her because he hated indecision and wanted her blood.

(Ghost Rider III#66 - BTS) - A shadowy person calling himself Deep Throat (it was Captain Dolan) told Ghost Rider about the brutal murder of Alicia Walker and then told him were he could find Blackout.

(Ghost Rider III#66) - Blackout was hanging out in his apartment when he got hired for another assassination. He put on his coat and was ready to leave for work when Ghost Rider crashed through the door. Blackout was disappointed because he thought he had made a deal with Ghost Rider, but Ghost Rider was done with him. Blackout jumped out the window and ran into a couple (Lois and Clark). Ghost Rider rode down the building to catch up to Blackout and gave him a beating. Blackout threatened Clark to force Ghost Rider to transform back into Dan Ketch. Ghost Rider obliged, but before Blackout could bite Dan, he transformed back into Ghost Rider. He then bound Blackout with his chains and was mocked by the villain because he was sure Ghost Rider would just deliver him to the police and he would be out on the street within two months and then threatened to kill Dan and his loved ones. Ghost Rider surprised Blackout by chaining him to the antenna on the World Trade Center and left him there to get burnt by the sun.

(New Avengers I#1 - BTS) - Blackout survived and ended up imprisoned at the Raft.

(New Avengers I#1) - Blackout was among the Raft inmates gathered before Electro during the impending breakout.

(New Avengers I#1 - BTS) - He escaped the Raft.

(Wolverine III#46) - At some point Blackout attacked Dagger (Tandy Bowen).

(New Avengers I#35 (fb)) - Blackout was among the super-villains attending a meeting with the Hood. He received $25,000 for attending, but wondered out loud why he shouldn't just take the money and leave. The Hood kind of threatened him, but ultimately convinced Blackout to stay.

(New Avengers Annual I#2) - Blackout was part of Hood's super-villain army ambushing the "New" Avengers at Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. Blackout got angry at Cutthroat for getting in his way while fighting Iron Fist. He was later incapacitated along with the rest of the super-villain army by the Zom-empowered Doctor Strange, who were then taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.

(New Avengers I#46 (fb) - BTS) - He was apparently freed from custody by the Hood.

(Ghost Rider VI#26 (fb) - BTS) - Blackout was recruited by Dan Ketch as part of a team of operatives working for the angel Zadkiel.

(Ghost Rider VI#26) - Ketch took Blackout, Orb, Death Ninja and Doghead to Caretaker's shack in Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. While Ketch made it clear that they were not there to kill Caretaker, Blackout did his best to provoke Ketch by reminding him of their past and what he did to Dan's sister. The team was unable to surprise Caretaker, who shot Doghead dead almost immediately. Orb and Death Ninja followed Caretaker through the front door while Blackout went around the back. It didn't end well for Orb and Death Ninja, but Blackout was able to surprise Caretaker for a moment...and then got stabbed in the crotch by the old man. Out for revenge Blackout was ready to gut Caretaker with the sword he had just been stabbed with, but Ketch halted his attack and reminded him what would happen to him if he disobeyed Zadkiel's orders. Blackout left the shack in anger while Ketch dealt with Caretaker.

   Blackout was surprised when Ketch left the burning building without Caretaker. Blackout asked to get paid and was promised by Ketch that he would as soon as their job was finished. They waited for the shack to burn to the ground, but Ketch suddenly felt the arrival of Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze).

(Ghost Rider VI#27) - Blackout saw Blaze arriving with Caretaker's granddaughter Sara and informed Ketch, who was there to destroy the library in the tunnels under Caretaker's shack. Blackout went back out into the cemetery to distract Ghost Rider. They fought outside and in the tunnels where Blackout got pummeled by Ghost Rider.

(New Avengers I#46 (fb)) - Blackout was present with the rest of Hood's army when the Hood and Madame Masque tortured and interrogated a Skrull posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and then used his demonic powers to determine if any Skrulls had infiltrated his army as well. He found out that a Skrull was impersonating the Slug and killed him. Blackout and the rest of the group were shocked that aliens had infiltrated their group and the Hood vowed to call them after doing some further investigations.

(Secret Invasion I#6; 7-8 - BTS) - As part of the Hood's army Blackout joined a massive battle against the Skrull invaders in Central Park alongside many of Earth's heroes. The villains departed after the battle was won by Earth's defenders.

(New Avengers I#50/New Avengers I#55 (fb)) - Blackout joined the Hood's army in another attack on Luke Cage's Avengers (Cage, Captain America/Barnes, Ms. Marvel/Danvers, Mockingbird, Ronin/Barton, Spider-Man/Parker, Spider-Woman/Drew, Wolverine/Howlett) at an old Hellfire Club base after the Hood was contacted by Norman Osborn, whose Avengers Cage had actually tried to lure into a trap at the location. The Avengers escaped after Ms. Marvel channeled Spider-Woman's powers through her to temporarily stun the villain army.

(Dark Reign: Made Men - Marvel Digital Comics Exclusive#5) - Blackout hung out at the Hood's army's hideout while the Hood was introduced to Enforcer (Mike Nero) by the Wrecking Crew. The meeting ended badly when Enforcer turned on the Wrecking Crew and the Hood and then escaped through a glass window because he was actually a vigilante going after criminals.

(New Avengers I#55 - BTS) - With the Hood, Madame Masque and John King missing, Jonas Harrow took leadership of the villain army and announced his plan to use a power inhibitor to defeat the Avengers.

(New Avengers I#56) - Blackout joined the villain army's attack on the Avengers under Harrow's leadership and they not only incapacitated Cage's team, but also Osborn's Avengers.

(New Avengers I#57) - Blackout was present when Osborn agreed to Harrow's terms and Harrow switched off the power inhibitor. Cage's Avengers escaped in a Quinjet, which fired on the villain army and Osborn's Avengers.

(Ghost Rider VI#33) - Zadkiel sent Deacon to ally with Blackout to kill Ghost Rider. Blackout congratulated Deacon on killing the Gun Nuns and then looked with his new ally through a bunch of pictures to put together a team that could help them destroying Ghost Rider. Among those they considered for the task were After Buckler (must be a Rich Buckler creation they couldn't identify), Big Wheel, Blackheart, Black Talon (Samuel Barone), the Circus of Crime, D-7, Dracula, Frankenstein Monster, Goom, Grogg, Highwayman, Iron Mike, Madcap, Manphibian, Man-Thing, the Orb, Razorback, Reverend Styge, Satana, Scarecrow, Trull, Zodiak and Zzutak (with Death Ninja and Doghead crossed out because they were dead).

(Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire#1) - Blackout and Deacon freed Orb from South Nashville Prison Hospital. Blackout promised Orb that Zadkiel would heal his injuries if he was on-board with killing Ghost Rider.

(Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z SC#1 - Big Wheel) - Blackout freed Jackson Weele from prison.

(Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire#2 (fb) - BTS) - Blackout recruited Scarecrow, Madcap, Trull and Big Wheel for the Ghost Rider Assassination League.

(Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire#2) - Blackout took Orb and Deacon to a bar where they recruited Vengeance (Kowalski) as the final member of their team.

(Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire#3) - From a distance Blackout watched the Ghost Riders (Blaze and Ketch) arrive at a doorway to Heaven. He killed a dove carrying the key to the door and took it with him. He hoped to see the Ghost Riders soon again.

(Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire#5) - From the shadows Blackout joined the attack on the Gun Nuns to take control over their portal to Heaven. He fled after he was shot numerous times.

(Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire#6) - After fall of Zadkiel and Kid Blackheart's failed attack on Heaven, Blackheart accompanied Master Pandemonium and Kid Blackheart to a strip club. Kid Blackheart promised his new allies to start conquering the world after another song.

(New Avengers I#64 (fb)) - Blackout was among the villains approached by the Hood with Norman Osborn's offer to make them certified heroes if they participated in the siege on Asgard.

(Thor I#608) - Blackout participated with Hood's army in the siege of Asgard while his powers were enhanced by the Norn Stones.

(New Avengers I#64 - BTS) - The situation went sour for Blackout and the rest of Hood's army when Loki withdrew the Norn Stones from the Hood and the villains lost their enhanced powers mid-battle.

(Avengers Academy#4) - Blackout was imprisoned at the Raft when Avengers Academy students Hazmat, Mettle and Veil caused a blackout to get to Norman Osborn. Blackout escaped his cell and knocked out Hazmat, but soon got captured again with the help of Wasp (Pym), Justice, Speedball and Tigra.

(Ghost Rider VII#1) - In Dayton, Ohio Deathwatch fed on the suffering caused by Skadi (Sinthea Shmidt) and her troops while his partner Blackout considered it undignified to feed on the survivors. They were stopped by Ghost Rider (Alejandra Jones), who hit them with all the suffering they had ever inflicted on others before taking them out with a burning sickle.

(Fear Itself: The Fearless#10 (fb) - BTS) - Blackout joined the Department of Occult Armament.

(Fear Itself: The Fearless#10) - Blackout participated in the D.O.A.'s battle against the Avengers and ran afoul Wolverine.

(Superior Spider-Man Annual I#1) - Blackout bought information from a former Kingpin henchman on the identity of Spider-Man's tech guy Peter Parker, but killed the henchman instead of paying him because he didn't have enough money. Blackout then abducted May Parker, left Jay Jameson behind to give Peter a phone and then called Peter to demand from him to sabotage Spider-Man's equipment so that Blackout could easily kill him. Spider-Man (actually Otto Octavius possessing Peter Parker) tracked down Blackout and after gathering some information on him from Dan Ketch, attacked Blackout's hideout with Spider-Bots to distract Blackout. Despite some difficulty Spider-Man defeated Blackout and saved May. After May was gone Spider-Man brutally beat up Blackout and left him hanging on hooks so he could tell every other criminal what would happen to anyone ever went after Peter Parker, his family and friends again. Spider-Man left Blackout hanging with an ultraviolet light pointed at him to torture him even after Spider-Man was gone.

(Elektra IV#6 (fb)) - Blackout and Jack O'Lantern tracked down Elektra for the Assassins' Guild in Arizona. She choked out Blackout and escaped with her current allies Cape Crow, Matchmaker and Kento Roe.

SECRET WARS III HAPPENED

(Deadpool: Assassin#6 (fb) - BTS) - Blackout helped Threnody feed her monstrous baby with life force.

(Deadpool: Assassin#2) - Bella Donna Boudreaux sent Blackout, the Harkspur Brood and Threnody after Deadpool.

(Deadpool: Assassin#3) - In New Orleans Deadpool took out the Harkspur Brood, but was lured into an alley by Threnody where he was attacked by Blackout. Deadpool got his head smashed through a wall and Blackout was going to rip off his head. He invited Threnody to feed on Deadpool because he was about to die, but Threnody turned on Blackout and fed on his life force instead. She showed mercy and didn't kill him to repay him for what he gave her. Blackout got away, but he wasn't too pleased that she had just left him for Deadpool.

(Deadpool: Assassin#4) - In his miserable condition Blackout crawled back to Bella Donna, who sent more assassins after Deadpool.

(Deadpool: Assassin#6) - Blackout followed Deadpool into the sewers to Threnody. Blackout attacked Deadpool and revealed that the only reason Threnody had left him for Deadpool was because she thought Deadpool would bring more death her way. Blackout got stabbed in the head, but just pulled out the knife. He got his left hand cut off, but Blackout could still control it. He also spewed weird black bile at Deadpool, drank the mercenary's blood and used his prehensile tongue-like appendage to attack. At the end Deadpool nearly cut Blackout in half. After Deadpool killed Threnody's baby to stop her from killing the baby of his late friend Weasel's wife Clarice to feed the little monster, Threnody lashed out and nearly killed Blackout and Deadpool by absorbing most of their life force. She left with her dead baby while Blackout and Deadpool dropped to the floor. Blackout's severed hand was still walking around, so he was still alive.

In Deadpool: Assassin#6 he was accidentally called Bloodscream by Deadpool and Threnody, which is a completely different character. Similar in appearance, but not the same guy. It can probably be attributed to Threnody being insane and Deadpool just not knowing any better. Look at the little monster to the left. Could Blackout have been the dad of Threnody's baby? We will never know!

   Blackout is one of those characters that writers like to use in flashbacks to earlier times of Ghost Rider (Ketch) and it gets harder to place each time it happens because with Blackout there were multiple factors that made it impossible for him to be around or look a certain way at a certain point.

   To quote Howard Mackie about when Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider takes place: "This story is set AFTER Johnny Blaze returns to confront the new Spirit of Vengeance and his host. Blaze is featured heavily in the story as are a few new villains - named the BROKER and THE MASTER - as well as the return of a couple of fan favorites (and my own favorites) BLACKOUT and SCARECROW."

But does this work?

• Blaze confronted Ketch in #13, but it took until #16 that they were friendly with each other. Blaze returned to his family in #18, but promised to return.
  So the mini could take place after #18!
• Deathwatch died (it didn't stick) in #24. He didn't return for real until way after the Ghost Rider series ended.
  So the mini should at least take place after #24!
• Caretaker didn't even meet Ghost Rider or Blaze until #28, but Ketch's spirit wasn't even in Ghost Rider's body at the time and it took until the end of the Rise of the Midnight Sons crossover in #31 to reunite Ketch's spirit with Ghost Rider.
  In the mini Ketch clearly knows Caretaker so it has to be after #31.
• Scarecrow got taken by the Firm after #7 until GR/CA: Fear, but at the end of the special is again taken by the Firm and imprisoned until #38. He escaped with the Firm's other subjects and stays with them until Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#61, but Mackie admitted to not check what other writers were doing with the characters.
  So it probably takes place after #38.
• Blackout got burned in #3 and a bit more in #15. He even gets to temporarily kill Ketch in #25, but finds his own temporary end in #31 and is gone until he gets reborn in #41 without burns. The burns are a pretty important fact in Mackie's new mini. So the mini could have taken place before #31 in Mackie's plans, but that is impossible due to Caretaker not even knowing Ketch before #31 and Blackout dying overlapping!
  It probably took place after the end of the Lilin's involvement in the Siege of Darkness (Nightstalkers#15 or Ghost Rider III#44 if we ignore all other titles), but before #53 if we pretend Blackout got burned again behind the scenes and healed again after the mini!
• But Ghost Rider (Ketch) wasn't around for a bit after Siege of Darkness and only returned in #50 and still had trouble transforming back into Ketch until #54, but maybe we can just ignore that last part because otherwise there would be no possible moment this series could even take place.
  Which leaves us with issues #50 to #53!
• So if we squint the series likely took place between Ghost Rider III#50 and #53, but Mackie probably wanted it to be far earlier, which doesn't work considering the characters seen in the series!

   The cameo in Alpha Flight I#121 is another chronological problem. It can't be placed at the point of publication because Blackout was dead at the time, but after his resurrection Blackout is so involved with Lilith that it seems impossible to put it anywhere before Siege of Darkness ended.

   Blackout apparently owned an apartment on the Upper East Side since before we first saw him in Ghost Rider III#2. We saw it for the first time in Ghost Rider III#53 after he lived on the street for some time after following Lilith around like a puppy between Ghost Rider III#28 and Nightstalkers#15. Pure assumption, but I am pretty sure he lost it following his incarceration at the Raft because he was one of the villains presumed dead?!
