Powers/Abilities: Kody possessed claws on hand and feet, which he used in combat to tear enemies apart. His body was covered with fur making him resistent to lower temperatures. His canine teeth were carnivore-like, but he was never seen using them to injure anyone. He possessed exponentially enhanced human strength due to his bear-like stature enabling him to rip out doors with ease and toss around human-sized enemies like rag dolls. Though he never showed any regenerative ability he seemed unnaturally resistent to injuries. Like many other feral creatures he could be driven into a berserker rage through anger. During such an outburst it was hard for Kody to maintain his normal intelligence and he became more ferocious than normally. Despite his feral nature his year-long closeness to normal humans enabled him to regain control over himself quickly with a little help from his friends, who always had a calming effect on him.

History:

(Spirits of Vengeance#21 (fb) - BTS) - At some point in the past Kody was turned into a "Moksgm'ol" by his father.

Not happy with what he had become Kody eventually left his family to live with humans. Despite his heritage Kody somehow managed to look like a normal human again.

(Spirits of Vengeance#10 (fb) - BTS) - Kody could only keep this human form as long as he kept his rage in check.

(Spirits of Vengeance#4) - Kody was present when Wolf told everyone that after all the mystical nonsense the carnival had to get back to normal, but Clara informed him that Lilith was just the beginning.

(Spirits of Vengeance#6) - Kody, Eli, Miranda and Wolf took care of Clara after she had passed out in a storm. They were shocked when she went into convulsions after waking up.

(Spirits of Vengeance#7) - Kody comforted Clara and tried to keep her calm, but she couldn't stop raving about all the deaths she had seen in their future. Suddenly she sat up and screamed that their enemies were here. When Steel Wind, Steel Vengeance and Styge's demons started their attack Blaze told Wolf and Kody to get back inside and get Clara, Eli and Miranda to safety.

(Spirits of Vengeance#9 (fb) - BTS) - Kody didn't participate in the fight against Steel Vengeance, Steel Wind and Styge's demons.

(Spirits of Vengeance#9) - Kody told Blaze how sorry he was that he didn't compete in the fight. He took care of Clara while the others once again fought Steel Wind and Styge's demons when they returned. He told Clara that he couldn't go with them.

(Spirits of Vengeance#10) - Kody kept staying out of the fight and Blaze started to fear what would happen to them if he didn't join them. When one of Styge's demons attacked Clara Kody attacked him. Upon attacking the demon Kody transformed due to rage into his true form. He continued to help on the outside killing several demons. When the fight was over he carried Clara and left the destroyed carnival along with Blaze, Wolf, Ghost Rider, Miranda and the deceased Eli.

(Ghost Rider III#39) - After the fight against Steel Wind and Styge's demons Blaze took Kody, Ghost Rider (Dan Ketch), Kody, Clara, Wolf and Miranda Woods to Greenwich Village in a truck. They stayed at Dan's apartment while Blaze tried to figure out Eli's last note for him.

(Spirits of Vengeance#12) - Kody, Ghost Rider, Blaze and Wolf returned to the site of the carnival. They failed to sneak past government soldiers and had to fight them to burn the corpses of the deceased carnies. After the main tent was blown up Wolf took a truck and brought Kody, Miranda and Clara away. When they were stopped by soldiers Kody knocked them out.

The next morning Kody and the others joined Ghost Rider, Blaze and Quinn, Eli's son, at the funeral for Eli.

(Spirits of Vengeance#14) - At Eli's shack the remaining Quentin Carnival members were attacked by the reborn Lilin. Kody fought Meatmarket. The Lilin and Steel Wind soon departed when Pilgrim teleported them away.

(Spirits of Vengeance#15) - Kody asked Wolf, Miranda and Clara to come outside when Ghost Rider and Seer returned with Blaze, who had been injured. Kody waited while Quinn helped Blaze. When Vengeance attacked the shack Kody, Wolf and Ghost Rider fought him until Blaze came to aid them with new cybernetic implants and his Hellfire-shotgun.

(Ghost Rider III#43) - Kody joined Ghost Rider, Blaze, Seer and the others carnies when they went to Cypress Hills Cemetery where they met Vengeance and Caretaker. When Caretaker overpowered Vengeance and Ghost Rider Seer told the others to stay out. Blaze followed Caretaker while Kody and the carnies went with Seer.

(Spirits of Vengeance#16) - Kody stayed with the other carnies and Seer at the Blood's Nightclub while Ghost Rider, Vengeance and Blaze fought Zarathos, Lilith and the Lilin.

(Blaze: Legacy of Blood#1) - Kody and Wolf helped Clara and Seer sober up Blaze at the cabin. Kody watched silently as Blaze got a call from his son Craig and then left.

(Blaze: Legacy of Blood#3) - When Blaze returned to the cabin with a knife stuck in his face, Kody held him down while Wolf pulled it out. With the knife gone Hellfire poured out of the wound and Quinn told Kody and Wolf to get out as fast as possible because it was out of control. Kody returned a while later when the situation was under control.

(Spirits of Vengeance#20) - Kody, Wolf and Quinn monitored Blaze when he broke into a secret military base in the Adirondack Mountains to destroy all the information and DNA the government got on the deceased Quentin Carnival members.

(Spirits of Vengeance#21 (fb) - BTS) - Kody's brother Cal came looking for him, which enraged Kody.

(Spirits of Vengeance#21) - Kody hunted his brother through the woods and tried to kill him, but Blaze stopped the confrontation. Cal escaped and Kody explained to Blaze that now his family would kill Blaze and all his other friends to get him back to them. Kody ran away to hide out in the Bowery on the lower east side of Manhattan. His family found him, but Kody escaped them again. An hour later Kody encountered Blaze and Clara, who had been looking for him. When he saw Clara kissing Blaze he angrily attacked Blaze and tried to take off with Clara, but a shot from Blaze's Hellfire shotgun brought Kody back to his senses. Blaze wanted to help him against his family and seconds later he got the opportunity because they had found Kody again and attacked. Kody stopped his father Bern from killing Blaze and Clara and explained to him that Blaze and Clara were more family to him than his true family. Angered Bern declared that Kodiak wasn't his son anymore and ordered to kill him and his human allies. The "Moksm'ol" were defeated, Kody decided to stay with the humans and promised to his family that he wouldn't reveal any secrets of his kind to the humans. Bern told Kody that he was now an outcast and the "Moksgm'ol" left. Kody, Blaze and Clara sat down to talk about Kody's feelings to Clara and then they left together.

(Spirits of Vengeance#22) - Kody and Blaze watched Miranda loose control over her powers. Blaze eventually calmed her down by assuring her that they would find her son again.

(Spirits of Vengeance#23) - Kody, Wolf, Miranda, Timmy, Clara and Blaze visited Roxanne's grave. They had decided to put the Quentin Carnival back together.

(Blaze#1) - The Quentin Carnival played somewhere in Pennsylvania and Kody and Clara drove into town to buy groceries. To their surprise the grocery store owner Schenker had a package for Clara. Schenker then showed Kody something in his walk-in fridge that could interest the carnival. Kody was shocked at seeing the mummified body of Ice Box Bob and wasn't sure if it was legal to possess something like that, but the owner assured that his father bought it legally.

Later that night Kody talked to Blaze about how weird Clara acted since she got the package. At that night's show Kody told Blaze to finish his show, but Blaze had heard a scream and decided to help whoever was in trouble. Kody followed him, but they only saw a shadow and found a victim. When the police came asking questions Kody couldn't help at all. Clara told them that she saw a man and upon describing him Kody told the others that it was the same man whose corpse was at Schenker's store.

(Blaze#2) - When the carnival stopped at Citrusville Blaze got into a short fight with Man-Thing. Kody, Wolf and Clara came to aid him, but Man-Thing was already leaving and Clara stopped Wolf from shooting it. Wolf confronted Clara because she was talking about seeing things like a sighted person since receiving the package, but Kody defended her.

A bit later Blaze held auditions for the carnival and Kody held the line in check. A short time later Kody comforted Clara, whose magic eyes (from the package) had been stolen by the Shadrach Brothers. Because they had hurt Clara Kody wanted to join Blaze when he went after these creeps, but Blaze didn't take him with him.

(Blaze#3) - Kody and Wolf protected Clara from Blaze who confronted her about the magic eyes (he had returned them to her last issue). They were shocked when they saw that the eyes were alive and that they could connect themselves to Clara--giving her real eyes. Everyone was sure that the eyes were evil and slowly taking control over Clara. They wanted to cut them out, but were interrupted by Holden Blevins. The boy told them how his mother saved him from Ice Box Bob's realm and Clara told everyone present that he was telling the truth. After receiving a message from Bob for Blaze Kody comforted her again. Kody drove Wolf and Clara to the highway, but they came too late to help Blaze save his children Emma and Craig.

Later Wolf stormed into Clara's trailer to tell Kody and Clara that they had to get to the highway immediately to help Blaze because he had learned Mary Blevins' son was never born (the unborn child mystically came to life to finish what his mother had begun--killing Ice Box Bob). Kody drove them, but they came too late to help Blaze save his children when Baal pulled them into another realm.

(Blaze#5) - Kody, Wolf and the rest of the carnival were ready to save Blaze when he was kidnapped by Anung-Ite, but Clara told them that they first had to learn more about the strange mesa not far away. Kody watched as Clara used her magic eyes and Wyatt's grandmother's magic basket to learn where they had to go. Kody stayed behind while Clara and Princess Python took Blaze's motorcycle to get to Blaze.

(Blaze#6) - Kody took Clara's magic eyes from her and didn't want to return them to her until Eve Two Crows and Blaze told him to.

(Blaze#7) - Kody once again held the line in check when Blaze and Wolf held auditions for the carnival. Later at that night's show Kody lit up a wire for Blaze. When the wire was split by a shot from Double-Tap, a guy didn't want to hire for the carnival. Blaze crashed with his bike and Kody comforted him until an ambulance arrived. He later visited Blaze along with Wolf, Princess Python, Clara and their newest performers Madame Yang Kwei Fei, Lobster Lad and Roach at the hospital. They were joined by Lt. Bart Wegner of the SFPD because the carnival's cashier Buster was killed during the robbery by Double-Tap, Tex and Aura-Lee. Fei used her psychic powers to learn more from the cop than he would tell them. Kody and the others left to go after the criminals, but Fei, Lobster Lad and Roach told them to stay behind when they found the criminals. When Blaze and Clara arrived Kody and Wolf told them to not go inside to Fei and the others. Suddenly the former Lobster Lad and Roach ran out looking like normal humans again because Fei had transferred their curse onto Double-Tap and Tex had while their partner Aura-Lee was turned into a monkey.

(Blaze#8) - When Blaze signed on Mad Monk (actually Arcade in disguise) for the carnival Kody and Wolf were surprised. A bit later Princess Python confessed to Kody that she was in love with Blaze and Kody told her that he loved Clara, but couldn't tell her because Blaze was like a brother to him. When they heard screaming from Mad Monk's trailer they entered it and were knocked out by Arcade's gas flower. With Kody and Princess Python caught Arcade transformed his trailer into a Murder World house of horror. Blaze fought his way through the house to safe them and was opposed by the last High Priestess of Baal, who had forced Arcade into his service. Blaze shot the priestess several times to free Kody and Princess Python from his grip. Kody carried Python to safety while Blaze locked Arcade inside the coffin with the dead priestess.

(Blaze#9) - Kody, Wolf, Fei, Python and Clara stayed inside a trailer while the spirit of the Kristall Starrer haunted the carnival in search for his eyes, which were guarded by Blaze (Clara's mystical eyes). Suddenly Captain Rawlins of the State Police knocked at their door to ask for Blaze. Kody joined the others and the cop to help Blaze after they learned from Rawlins that the Oculist, who had warned Clara and Blaze of the Kristall Starrer, had died by strangling himself. They entered Blaze's trailer, but he had already saved himself by using the light of Hellfire to scare Kristall Starrer off.

(Blaze#10) - Quentin Carnival moved to the Jersey Shore. Kody drove the trailer with Princess Python and Wolf. When Blaze stopped Kody stopped as well. Blaze found blood on the street and asked the others to stay behind, but Kody and the rest went with Blaze. They soon found a corpse hanging from a lamp post pointing to a nearby pavilion. Blaze went inside while Kody and the others were attacked by members of the Undead MC. The vampires soon retreated and Kody, Wolf, Clara and Python went into the pavilion to help Blaze.

(Blaze#11) - When Kody and the others had found Blaze he already had help in form of the Punisher, who made Kody angry because he didn't want them to go after the vampires with him. Kody, Wolf and Python returned to the rest of the carnival and told them what had happened and that Clara and Blaze went with the Punisher. Led by Madame Fei the carnival followed Blaze's tracks.

(Blaze#12 (fb) - BTS) - Kody and the others had a run-in with Shelob, but Madame Fei trapped her inside a jar.

(Blaze#12) - Kody and the others arrived when the fight between Blaze, the Punisher, Wendigo (who had returned Blaze's children to him) and Clara with the Undead MC and Uri-El was over. Kody told Blaze about their fight with Shelob and Lobster Lad gave Shelob to Blaze. At sunset the Quentin Carnival stood united at a graveyard.

Kody was probably also present BTS during Spirits of Vengeance#1-3, but he wasn't seen because he was hiding from any fights during that time.

Kody's people never received a name, but I decided to name them here as "Moksgm'ol" the Tsimshian word for the Kermode black bear. Mainly because there exist legends about these bears and I like me some myth that brings stuff together that just looks like it could fit.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Kody has no known connection to:

Bern has no known connection to:

Cal has no known connection to:

Bern

Bern was an important men amongst the "Moksgm'ol," but his son Kody, who never wanted to become a "Moksgm'ol" rebelled against their kind and left them to live with humans. Eventually Bern's other son Cal found Kody and led his people to him. Bern gave Kody the chance to return to his old life, but Kody didn't want to. He declared that Kody wasn't his son anymore when he rather stayed with his human friends than with his family and ordered them all killed, but Bern had to accept Kody's decision after he and his people were defeated in combat by Kody, Blaze and Clara. Though he was still afraid that Kody would tell the humans their secrets he believed Kody when he promised to tell the humans nothing of the "Moksgm'ol" and left.

--Spirits of Vengeance#21

Cal

Cal was the brother of Kody and he was the one that found Kody after the "Moksgm'ol" had searched for him for a long time. Kody tried to kill Cal because he knew that otherwise the "Moksgm'ol" would kill all his friends to keep their secrets, but Blaze stopped Kody and Cal could escape. He returned to his family and led them to Kody, who was hiding out in the lower east side in Manhattan. He was among the "Moksgm'ol" that were defeated by Kody, Blaze and Clara.

"Moksgm'ol"

Nothing exact is known about the origins of the "Moksgm'ol", but they were apparently humans once and had been turned by unidentified means at their own free will (most of them at least, though children seemingly weren't asked if they wanted to go along with the change) into "Moksgm'ol". They started to live in seclusion from the outside world and had strict rules against interacting with humans that included killing humans to secure their secret lives. One day Kody, the son of Bern, who never asked to become a "Moksgm'ol" left his family to live with humans by temporarily transforming back into human form again, which he could only keep as long as he kept his rage under control. The other "Moksgm'ol" began to search for him, but as part of the Quentin Carnival Kody was always on the road. One day Kody's brother Cal found him and was attacked by Kody. Cal escaped to lead his family Kody. They found him hiding out in Manhattan, but Kody didn't want to return with them and they had to hunt him through the lower east side. Eventually Kody was aided against them by Blaze and Clara Menninger. When Kody still didn't want to return with his family Bern declared that he wasn't his son anymore and ordered his family to kill Kody and his human allies, but the "Moksgm'ol" were defeated by them. Kody promised to not betray his people by telling any of their secrets to his friends. Bern told Kody that he was now an outcast and then the "Moksgm'ol" left to return to their lives in seclusion.
