History:

(D.P.7. I#19/The Clinic) - Following the White Event on July 22, 1986 caused by the Star Brand, Dwight Frye was one of many people who discovered they had paranormal abilities. On November 5, 1986, Dwight went to the Clinic for Paranormal Research to receive help in controlling his parability. He was assigned to Therapy Group D.

(D.P.7 I#13) - Dwight was in the Clinic's gym one day with his friend and fellow therapy group member John Rost, alias Scrap Iron as the two men lifted weights together. When Dave Landers entered the gym and asked if he could use the free weights, Dwight offered to rotate him in and, unfamiliar with Dave's parability, asked if he could squat 300 pounds. Dave replied he wasn't doing squats, he was doing curls. As he began peforming curls with the barbell, Dwight and John were both stunned.

(D.P.7 I#15) - Dwight joined the Black Powers, a new gang comprised of various patients who were all Black and led by Indigo, who dubbed him "Bazooka" and gave him a black leather jacket to wear as their uniform. Bazooka, Blindspot, Chill and Squirm started a confrontation with Randy O'Brien, accusing him of using his Anti-Bodies to spy on their teammate Charlotte. Randy denied doing this but when Blindspot shoved him, his Anti-Bodies instinctively emerged to defend him. Bazooka blasted one of the Anti-Bodies but the fight was broken up by Lenore Fenzl, who used her parability to knock out all of the Black Powers and the Anti-Bodies.

(D.P.7 I#16) - The Black Powers went to the cafeteria together and intimidated Shock, Stalagmite and Wormhole into giving up their table to them. When Scuzz came over to invite Charlotte to join the DDTeens, Indigo assaulted him, causing him to cry. After dinner, Scuzz led the DDTeens in a retaliation against the Black Powers while they were dancing in one of the Clinic's lounges. Annie Stevenson used a powerful sonic note to disorient the Black Powers as the fight began. Bazooka got into a fight with Ghost-Driver and his "Shadowman" Anti-Body and fired a blast at Annie Stevenson. Finally Charlotte used her parability to stick all of the Black Powers and DDTeens to the floor to stop the violence. Dave Landers arrived and helped end the altercation. For using her parability against the other Black Powers, Charlotte was kicked out of the group by Indigo.

(D.P.7 I#17) - At the Clinic's gym, Bazooka got into an argument with his friend Scrap Iron, who accused him of "putting on airs." Their fight spilled out into the hallways until Dave Landers and Stalagmite stepped in; Dave kneed Bazooka in the groin in order to stop the fighting, then they brought Bazooka and Scrap Iron to see the Clinic's director Tanis Newhouse to explain themselves. Scrap Iron sheepishly confessed how their fight began and director Newhouse told them to stay out of each other's way and that they'd have to pay restitutions for the damage they caused. That night the Black Powers had a meeting about Freefall and Tangler, who had been roughed up by the other Black Powers before Bazooka joined. The two men had just been released from intensive care and Blindspot had gone missing (killed by Freefall and Tangler) but Chill believed they should leave Freefall and Tangler alone for the time.

The next day, Chill was gone and a bloody smear was found on the ground below his window. Bazooka and Indigo blamed Freefall and Tangler and plotted to murder them at the assembly scheduled at noon that day. At the assembly, director Newhouse ordered all the special interest groups at the Clinic to disband and all patients rejoin their original therapy groups. This set off a riot as Bazooka launched an attack on Tangler, blasting him through a window. Bazooka was unable to attack Freefall because virtually every patient joined the riot and Bazooka found himself being hit by his friend Scrap Iron and tackled by Stalagmite, throwing off his aim as he tried to hit Freefall. He was also attacked by Annie, who hit him with a sonic blast. The riot ended when Lenore Fenzl used her parability on everyone in the room, paralyzing them.

(D.P.7 I#18) - On December 23, 1987, Bazooka was recovering in the Clinic's infirmary under Randy O'Brien's care. Bazooka's hands had been badly burned during the riot and Randy supplied pain relief for him.

(D.P.7 I#21) - On January 4, 1988, Bazooka and Indigo were left as the only members of the Black Powers as Charlotte had left the Clinic and Squirm had joined the DDTeens. Bazooka and Indigo had fallen in love and were glad they had recovered from their injuries during the riot. However, deputies from the county sheriff's office came to the Clinic after discovering the bodies of the deceased Clinic staffers Reinforcer and Receptor on the Clinic's grounds. When a deputy with a drawn gun entered the lounge where Bazooka and Indigo were, Bazooka panicked and blasted him with his parability. A second deputy drew and fired at them but Indigo created a shield to deflect the blast. Bazooka attacked the second deputy and soon the entire Clinic erupted into violence as the panicked deputies and frightened patients fought each other. Bazooka fought side-by-side with Indigo and other patients against the deputies but during the firefight, Indigo caught a bullet in her stomach - a fatal wound. The deputies were all either beaten or killed but the violence ensured the Clinic had to be closed down permanently.

(D.P.7 I#22/The Draft) - On April 11, 1988, Dwight was drafted into the U.S. Army as the draft had been reinstated in response to the destruction of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dwight was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia where other paranormal draftees were being assembled into the Paranormal Platoon. Dwight recognized Randy O'Brien, Dave Landers and Jeff Walters from the Clinic were also at Fort Benning. After receiving his haircut and uniform, Dwight went to the quarters, which finally gave him an opportunity to speak to Dave. After Dwight laughed at Dave's crewcut, Dave asked him about the Clinic. Dwight explained the Clinic had been closed and several patients killed, including his lover Indigo. When Dave tried to press him about Stephanie Harrington, Dwight knew nothing and grew angry when Dave grabbed him. Dwight fired a concussive burst at Dave's chest, scorching his shirt and warned him they weren't at the Clinic anymore; if Dave toughced him again, he promised to blast his hand off.

(D.P.7 I#23/Psi-Force I#23) - On April 21, 1988, the paranormal team Psi-Force broke into Fort Benning to liberate their teammate Thomas Boyd from the Paranormal Platoon. Bazooka and his fellow recruits fought Psi-Force but the paranormals escaped with their friend.

(Psi-Force I#27/2) - Bazooka and Pit Bull went to torment fellow soldier Tyrone Jessup in retaliation for the fight they'd had with his team Psi-Force. As Tyrone was in a wheelchair, they took him to a rooftop and dangled him by the edge, only to unintentionally knock him over the edge. Gridlock and Metallurge used their parabilities to save Tyrone's life and Sgt. Haldeman subjected Bazooka and Pit Bull to psychic trauma as punishment for their recklessness.

(Psi-Force I#29/2) - On Octber 23, 1988, Bazooka participated in a training exercise against Tyrone Jessup, whose parability had reemerged. Tyrone easily defeated Bazooka with a single blast of electromagnetic energy.

For some reason he was named in honor of actor Dwight Frye, a famous bit player in early Universal monster films including Frankenstein (1931) and Dracula (1931).

Despite being a member of the Paranormal Platoon since the Draft he didn't appear in the War I#1-4.
