History:
(D.P.7. I#19 - The Clinic) - Following the White Event on July 22, 1986 caused by the Star Brand,
Lionel Berry was one of many people who discovered they had paranormal
abilities. On June 18, 1987, Lionel became a patient at the Clinic for
Paranormal Research in Wisconsin to receive support in controlling his
parability. He was assigned to Therapy Group E.
(D.P.7 I#14) - On July 20, 1987, Lionel, now calling himself "Blindspot," attended the first meeting of the Black Powers, a new gang made up of Clinic patients who were Black. The other Black Powers were Chill, Squirm and Charlotte Beck, led by Indigo. As they discussed which of the Clinic's staff had been racist, Blindspot brought up Freefall and Tangler, who had both been made security guards that same day and hassled him twice that morning. Charlotte claimed Randy O'Brien had also been harassing her. While Freefall and Tangler were patrolling the Clinic's parking lot, Blindspot confronted them, warning them not to mess with him again. Ignoring his warning, both men started using their parabilities on him. However, the rest of the Black Powers ambushed Freefall and Tangler from behind. When Charlotte used her parability to stick them to the ground, Blindspot, Chill and Indigo then delivered a terrific beating to both men. The gang then went after Randy O'Brien and attacked him in the Clinic's gym. When Randy's Anti-Bodies defended him, Blindspot diverted one of the Anti-Bodies by rendering himself invisible. The fight was broken up by Jeff Walters.
(D.P.7 I#15) - Now joined by Bazooka, the Black Powers started wearing matching leather jackets. Bazooka, Blindspot, Chill and Squirm started a confrontation with Randy O'Brien, accusing him of using his Anti-Bodies to spy on their teammate Charlotte. Randy denied doing this but when Blindspot shoved him, his Anti-Bodies instinctively emerged to defend him. Blindspot hit Randy again, this time knocking him unconscious. The fight was broken up by Lenore Fenzl, who used her parability to knock out all of the Black Powers and the Anti-Bodies.
(D.P.7 I#16) - Blindspot interrupted Charlotte while she was talking to Scuzz, telling her that Indigo wanted to see her. Later, the Black Powers went to the cafeteria together and intimidated Shock, Stalagmite and Wormhole into giving up their table to them. When Scuzz came over to invite Charlotte to join the DDTeens, Indigo assaulted him, causing him to cry. After dinner, Scuzz led the DDTeens in a retaliation against the Black Powers while they were dancing in one of the Clinic's lounges. Annie Stevenson used a powerful sonic note to disorient the Black Powers as the fight began. Blindspot used his parability to ambush Annie from behind but she unleashed another powerful note that stunned him. Finally, Charlotte used her parability to stick all of the Black Powers and DDTeens to the floor to stop the violence. Dave Landers arrived and helped end the altercation. For using her parability against the other Black Powers, Charlotte was kicked out of the group by Indigo.
(D.P.7 I#17 - BTS) - When Freefall and Tangler got out of intensive care, they ambushed Blindspot and killed him.
Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Paul Ryan and Danny Bulanadi.
Blindspot's death was confirmed in the Clinic's profile in D.P.7 I#19.
He seems to have been named after
actor Lionel Barrymore; I guess Gruenwald was a fan? Physically,
though, he seems to have been patterned after singer Lionel Richie.
...and the "Berry" part of his last name could be a reference to influential early rock star Chuck Berry? --Proto-Man
