History:

(D.P.7 I#6 (fb) - BTS/D.P.7 I#19/The Clinic) - Following the White Event on July 22, 1986 caused by the Star Brand, Edward Zentner was one of many people who discovered they had paranormal abilities. On September 1, 1986, Edward went to the newly-opened Clinic for Paranormal Research in Wisconsin, run by Philip Nolan Voigt. Edward was assigned to Therapy Group A to learn how to control his parability but Voigt soon removed him from the group along with Geraldine Rumlow and Leland Sharp. On September 12, 1986, Edward, Rumlow and Sharp went to work as headhunters for the Clinic in what Voigt dubbed his "outreach program". Edward took the codename "Bloodhound" and the team was based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and tasked with the job of forcibly recruiting paranormals for the Clinic.

(D.P.7 I#2) - On October 20, 1986, Bloodhound, Shrapnel and Vice Versa were contacted by Voigt to assist him in recapturing the seven members of Therapy Group C, who had just fled the Clinic. The trio were outfitted with tranquilizer dart guns and chloroform-filled bags to place over their enemies' heads. Bloodhound piloted an airplane in pursuit of the fugitives, remaining in radio contact with Tracey Speck, whose parability enabled her to see through the fugitives' eyes, giving them the approximate location of their targets. When the seven escapees left a commandeered bus to continue on foot, Bloodhound landed the airplane nearby to begin their ground pursuit.

The trio came upon the seven escapees in a clearing and opened fire on them, hitting Jeff Walters, Stephanie Harrington and Lenore Fenzl with their first shots. Dave Landers caught sight of Bloodhound and charged toward him but after several more darts, Bloodhound finally knocked him out. Bloodhound went to place the chloroform bags over the heads of the paranormals they'd knocked out, but Stephanie had already metabolized the tranquilizer and used her parability to revive Jeff. Jeff ran away while Stephanie tried to fight Bloodhound. Although she was considerably stronger than he, Bloodhound's superior knowledge of unarmed combat enabled him to best Stephanie and knock her out.

Bloodhound resumed placing chloroform bags over the unconscious targets. When Jeff returned to attack him, Bloodhound raised Lenore's mask, using her parability to reduce Jeff's energy so he couldn't run at superhuman speed. Bloodhound held a knife to Lenore's throat and threatened to kill her unless Jeff put one of the bags over his own head. However, Charlotte Beck intervened and used her parability to render the knife frictionless so it slipped from Bloodhound's hand; Randy O'Brien's Anti-Body knocked Bloodhound down and Charlotte stuck him to the grass. Once all of their friends were freed, the seven stripped Bloodhound, Shrapnel and Vice Versa of their weapons and placed the bags over their heads.

(D.P.7 I#3) - On October 21, 1986, Bloodhound, Shrapnel and Vice Versa revived, freed themselves and returned to their airplane to retrieve their spare arsenal. Heading to the trailer park where Dave Landers lived, they ambushed two police officers who had been investigating the unusual events that had been happening. Bloodhound determined the seven paranormals had fled and the three of them took the police officers' uniforms and squad car to continue their pursuit. They caught up to Dave's camper trailer on the highway and Jeff scouted their car, immediately recognizing them from the previous evening and alerting the others. Randy sent his Anti-Body to attack them and it interfered with Bloodhound's driving, causing him to drive off the road and flip the car. Although Randy wanted to help the three hunters with their injuries, his allies voted against it. However, Randy's Anti-Body went to the police car's wreck and helped the three of them out of the wreckage.

That evening, Dave, Stephanie and Jeff went to Sheboygan, Wisconsin to see Stephanie's family but her husband, Chuck, immediately notified the Clinic, who informed Bloodhound, Shrapnel and Vice Versa where to find them. The three hunters switched to formal attire, intending to pass themselves off as concerned employees of the Clinic. Shrapnel ambushed Dave outside the Harrington house, then he and Bloodhound entered the home. Stephanie immediately recognized them and attacked both men then fled the house. Outside, Vice Versa had been beaten by Jeff and he drove himself, Stephanie and the unconscious Dave away.

(D.P.7 I#6 (fb) - BTS) - Voigt ordered Bloodhound, Shrapnel and Vice Versa to relinquish the assignment to capture the escaped paranormals, turning the work over to a team of mercenaries.

(D.P.7 I#21 (fb) - BTS) - At some point after Voigt disappeared, Bloodhound joined the U.S. Army, where he revealed to his superiors his paranormal abilities. He was given the rank of major and became instrumental in assisting the Army in recruiting paranormals into the armed forces, given he could verify whether people were paranormals or not. Following the destruction of Pittsburgh, Pennsylanvia at the hands of Ken Connell, U.S. Army forces under the command of Colonel MacIntyre Browning set up a military perimeter around the wreckage. Colonel Browning requested Zentner's assistance, having heard he was the Army's specialist on paranormals.

(D.P.7 I#20 - BTS) - On December 24, 1987, Zentner arrived at the Pitt. Catching the scent of the paranormals Dave Landers, Randy O'Brien, the Pit Bull, Merriam Sorensen and Jeff Walters past the military checkpoint, he directed soldiers to apprehend the five of them.

(D.P.7 I#21) - On January 3, 1988, Zentner finally reported to Colonel Browning. Just as Browning updated him about the five paranormals he'd led them to, Zentner told Browning he'd caught the scent of three more paranormals and directed Browning to their location. These proved to be Charlotte Beck, Lenore Fenzl and Mutator.

(D.P.7 I#22/The Draft) - On April 11, 1988, Zentner relocated to Fort Benning, Georgia, where suspected paranormal inductees of the draft were being gathered. Alongside drill instructor Sgt. Haldeman, Zentner examined the recruits, using his parability to sniff out which of them were not paranormals and verifying the rest. Zentner recognized Dave Landers, Randy O'Brien and Jeff Walters of the Clinic among the recruits. The others included Chris Barret ("Metallurgist"), Dwight Frye ("Bazooka"), Garth Mengeling ("Gridlock"), Harly Mook ("Blow Out") and Gaylord Picaro ("Pit Bull").

(D.P.7 I#23) - On April 24, 1988, Zentner had Lt. Keith Remsen trace Stephanie Harrington, who was at her home in Sheboygan. Zentner wanted Stephanie as an Army nurse due to her parability and ordered Dave Landers to accompany him on a trip to Sheboygan, knowing of Dave's romantic feelings for Stephanie. Heading to the Harringtons' home, Zentner met with Chuck Harrington, reminding him of their earlier encounter when he worked for the Clinic. Zentner asked to see Stephanie but Chuck, afraid Zentner had come to take her away, slipped out of the house to warn Stephanie. Zentner and Dave tracked Chuck to a bus station, where Stephanie was helping the teenage "DDTeens" take a bus out of town. Zentner reintroduced himself to Stephanie and began to make his appeal that she join the U.S. Army and share her parability to save soldiers' lives. However, Dave, remorseful for helping Zentner, struck him in the back of the head. Dave told the Harringtons to flee the country then went AWOL himself.

(D.P.7 I#24 (fb)) - In an attempt to evade the Army, Dave broke Zentner's nose so he wouldn't be able to track him.

(Star Brand I#15/2 (fb) - BTS) - Bloodhound let his friend Shrapnel know about paranormals being conscripted into the U.S. Army. Shrapnel tried to flee the USA for Canada in response.

(D.P.7 I#26) - On August 4, 1988, Zentner surreptitiously observed as Randy O'Brien gave away one of his Anti-Bodies to young Evan Huebner, permitting him to depart Fort Benning. Zentner noted that as Randy could use his parability to create an entire army, he would have to be reassigned from the medical corps to the infantry.

(Psi-Force I#27/2) - After new recruit Tyrone Jessup was taunted and almost killed by Bazooka and Pit Bull, Sgt. Haldeman and Zentner debriefed Tyrone and asked him why he didn't fight back. Tyrone claimed his parability was gone but Zentner's sense of smell informed him that wasn't true. When Haldeman looked inside Tyrone's mind to see what he was afraid of it caused Tyrone's parability to reemerge, emitting a blast of electromagnetic energy that stunned both men.

Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Paul Ryan and Romeo Tanghal.

His military rank was given as lieutenant in D.P.7 I#21 and Psi-Force I#27/2, but major everywhere else.

In Psi-Force I#23, Psi-Force broke into Fort Benning to liberate their teammate Thomas Boyd, during which Lindsey Falmon broke into Zentner's office and stole a bottle of nose spray from his desk (as her parability let her psychically view the histories of objects). It's a bizarre sequence because it delays the team's escape from Fort Benning and none of the objects Lindsey stole assisted in their escape, nor were they ever mentioned again. Maybe Nicieza intended for Zentner to fight Psi-Force at some point?
