History:
(D.P.7. I#19/The Clinic) - Following the White Event on July 22, 1986 caused by the Star Brand, Sally Gallagher was one of many people who discovered they had paranormal abilities. On September 6, 1986, Sally went to the newly-opened Clinic for Paranormal Research in Wisconsin to learn how to control her parability. Sally was placed in Therapy Group B and took the nickname "Shock."
(D.P.7. I#9 - BTS) - As the Clinic's staff Regulator, Receptor and Reinforcer reconditioned Randy O'Brien so that he would remain passive at the Clinic, Reinforcer gave him a dream in which Randy's Therapy Group C was competing in volleyball against Therapy Group B, including Sally.
(D.P.7 I#12) - When Dave Landers and Randy O'Brien escaped from the Clinic's efforts at brainwashing them they approached Sally to ask where the rest of their group were located. Sally told them to try the cafeteria.
(D.P.7 I#16) - Sally went to breakfast in the Clinic's cafeteria with her fellow group members Curtis and Martin but the Black Powers gang intruded and demanded they surrender their table to them. Curtis wanted to fight for the table but Martin convinced him to stand down.
(D.P.7 I#17) - Sally decided to form a women's group at the Clinic, inspired by the recent DDTeens and Black Powers groups. Sally invited the two other women from her therapy group (Pamela and Deborah) along with Sponge and Charlotte Beck. Charlotte was flustered at being asked to join yet another group as she'd already had the DDTeens, Black Powers and her therapy group competing for her. Sally told Charlotte that sisterhood was powerful and being a woman was a more important part of her identity than her age or race. Charlotte promised to think about the invitation but left the meeting early. Later that day, director Tanis Newhouse held an assembly at the Clinic and told all of the patients the special interest groups would be broken up and their members returned to their original therapy groups. Sally objected and this set off a riot in the Clinic that turned violent when the Black Powers used the opportunity to try and murder Freefall and Tangler (who had killed two of the Black Powers the previous day). Sally led her women's group into the fight and she blasted Indigo with an electrical shock. The riot ended when Lenore Fenzl used her parability to paralyze everyone in the room.
(D.P.7 I#21) - On January 4, 1988, deputies of the county sheriff's office came to the Clinic after the discovery of the bodies of the dead Clinic staffers Reinforcer and Receptor on the Clinic's grounds. The trigger-happy deputies and frightened patients were a bad mix as violence quickly erupted and soon all of the patients found themselves fighting for their lives, including Sally. Sally, Pamela and Scrap Iron attempted to run from the Clinic together. Sally fired a shock-bolt at a deputy to make him drop his pistol but the deputy's partner blasted Sally in the back with a shotgun. Furious, Scrap Iron murdered the deputy who shot Sally. In the aftermath of the violence, the Clinic was permanently shut down.
Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Paul Ryan and Al Williamson.
There was no confirmation of whether Sally died from her injury but it seems very likely.
Shock and the rest of Therapy Group B first appeared in D.P.7 I#9 as characters in a dream forced upon Randy O'Brien as part of the reconditioning Regulator, Reinforcer and Receptor were putting him through. The dream suggests Randy was familiar with all the Therapy Group B members, who would have all been at the Clinic behind-the-scenes during the events of D.P.7 I#1.
