History:

(D.P.7 I#19/The Clinic) - Following the White Event on July 22, 1986 caused by the Star Brand, Martin Murken was one of many people who discovered they had paranormal abilities. On September 17, 1986, Martin went to the Clinic for Paranormal Research for help in controlling his parability. Martin was placed in Therapy Group B and took the nickname "Wormhole."

(D.P.7. I#9 - BTS) - As the Clinic's staff Regulator, Receptor and Reinforcer reconditioned Randy O'Brien so that he would remain passive at the Clinic, Reinforcer gave him a dream in which Randy's Therapy Group C was competing in volleyball against Therapy Group B, including Martin.

(D.P.7 I#16) - Martin went for breakfast at the Clinic's cafeteria with his fellow group members Shock and Stalagmite but the Black Powers demanded they surrender their table to them. Stalagmite wanted to fight the Black Powers but Martin convinced him to stand down and let them have the table. Martin suggested that once their group was back at "full strength" (Freefall and Tangler had been hospitalized) they would "take" the Black Powers in a fight.

(D.P.7 I#17) - Martin attended an assembly held by Clinic director Tanis Newhouse. Martin stood with his fellow group members Stalagmite, Tangler and Freefall but all three of the women from their therapy group (Dementia, Interface and Shock) had left their group to form a women's group. When director Newhouse ordered all the patients to leave their special interest groups and return to their original therapy groups, a riot broke out in which Bazooka and Indigo tried to murder Freefall and Tangler (who had killed two of the Black Powers the previous day), Stalagmite tried to restrain Bazooka by leaping on his back but due to his unsteady posture one of his arms flung out and hit Martin in the back, knocking him out.

(D.P.7 I#21) - On January 4, 1988, deputies of the county sheriff's office came to the Clinic after the discovery of the bodies of the dead Clinic staffers Reinforcer and Receptor on the Clinic's grounds. The trigger-happy deputies and frightened patients were a bad mix as violence quickly erupted and soon all of the patients found themselves fighting for their lives, including Martin, who helped barricade the hallways against the deputies. When the violence ended, several patients and deputies were either dead or injured. Martin's fate was unrevealed but the Clinic itself was shut down due to the catastrophe.

Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Paul Ryan and Al Williamson.

Oddly, the only time Wormhole's parability was depicted in D.P.7 was in his first appearance - which was a dream sequence. He's not the most out-of-focus patient at the Clinic (that would be Thrust) but he's close.

Wormhole and the rest of Therapy Group B first appeared in D.P.7 I#9 as characters in a dream forced upon Randy O'Brien as part of the reconditioning Regulator, Reinforcer and Receptor were putting him through. The dream suggests Randy was familiar with all the Therapy Group B members, who would have all been at the Clinic behind-the-scenes during the events of D.P.7 I#1.
