History : (Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1-fb): Before the world was created, there was emptiness, in both the universe itself and in the heart of He-Who-Shapes. He-Who-Shapes beseeched the Cosmic Powers to let him fill the void with a world that none had ever seen before. The Cosmic Powers looked on his design and agreed that it was good...

Translation: Eurth was created by the Shaper of Worlds, using input from the "Four Muses," as a trial world. Eternity, Infinity, and the Living Tribunal agreed that the world was acceptable and thus brought it into permanent existence.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1-fb): Four and twenty years ago, a young squire named St'vaan petitioned to become a monk. Moved by his devotion, the monks gave him a potion and sent him on a quest to find the enchanted shield called Excelsior. During his quest, he came upon the Lady of Liberty, who bestowed upon him the shield and the mystic orb called the Heart of Avalon. When St'vaan awoke, he found himself bestowed with the peak of human vitality. In the years that followed, he became King of Avalon. He also gathered together avataars from across Eurth to form the Champions of the Realm.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2-fb): Once there was a young boy who was fascinated with spiders, so much so that he drew the attention of the Widow of the Web. She gave him the gift of a spider's nature on the condition that he was never to use his powers for personal gain. One day, however, a brigand attacked his uncle and the youth struck back, saving his uncle and capturing the thief. For doing so, the Widow of the Web cursed him with great responsibility as the guardian of Webwood, an outcast among men and thought an outlaw by those he protected.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2-fb): The X'Changelings were a group of children born strangely different from their parents, with uncanny powers and abilities. Some said that the true human babies were stolen and "ex-changed" with infants born from creatures unknown. Most believed that was superstition, but shame was endured by all of them. Two philosophers held sway over the X'Changelings: the Seer, who sought to promote harmony; and Simon Magnus, who sought to supplant humanity.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2-fb): Reclusive alchemist and technomancer St. Nathaniel sought to tap into the cosmic pulse of life itself. His sons and daughter volunteered and were exposed to eldritch rays that transformed them into living incarnations of the four elements.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3-fb): During the Worldwar, three nations joined together as the Z'axis. Avalon and the Legion of Liberty stood against the Z'axis. After many battles, Avalon vanquished the Z'axis, led by their general Zymo. From that day forward, Zymo referred to himself as the Dreadlord and vowed revenge.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1-fb): The King of Avalon and his queen, Sharaan, cared for their child and shared a kiss, but were then interrupted by the arrival of a servant, who announced that there was trouble brewing in the Market Square. Meanwhile, Skorch and Merman practiced, battling each other, until Merman spotted the trouble in Market Square and the two flew off towards the incident.

At the Square, Blackthorn, Swift, and Witchfire were doing their best to stop a rampaging Greenskyn Smashtroll when Skorch and Merman arrived. As the battle progressed, Captain Avalon arrived and demanded the battle cease. The Champions of Avalon then carried a shamed Greenskyn back to the King's Castle. Once there, Captain Avalon consulted Duke Ctranj about Greenskyn's problems with the drink. During the conversation, a scream was heard and Captain Avalon rushed to find his queen, Sharaan, dead, his son kidnapped, and the Heart of Avalon stolen. Captain Avalon swiftly formed a search party. Outside the Castle he found that the enemies' tracks led to both Blackwater and the Great Divide. The Champions decided to split up. One group went to Blackwater, where they found themselves battling the Minions of Evil. During the battle, Bludving jumped onto Witchfire and attempted to suck her blood. As she struggled, she cast a hex upon him, causing the spirits of those he fed on to return and demand vengeance. Merman then shoved his staff through Scorpius, causing his tail to strike blindly, killing Savagri. Meanwhile, at the Great Divide, the other team were battling Black Blade, Slag, Moonchild, Deathmaster, and the Knight in Ebon. As Moonchild attempted to cast a spell, Blackthorn fired off a few arrows into her and Deathmaster. Skorch and Slag battled furiously as Captain Avalon threw his shield at Black Blade. Black Blade knocked the shield to the ground and escaped on his flying horse.

Back at the palace, Captain Avalon vowed that the atrocity committed would not stand and announced the summoning of all of the Champions of the Realm, past and present. Those already at the palace swore their allegiance to Avalon.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2-fb): Not too long after, many of the Champions arrived. As they discussed matters, Captain Avalon announced that his party would consist of himself, Witchfire, Blackthorn, Bloodraven, Nighthowl, and Idol. He then entrusted the rest of the Champions to safeguard Avalon, should further harm befall it. Captain Avalon then explained how Duke Ctranj tracked the Black Blade northeast into the Wild Kingdoms, and stated that he would hunt him down and rescue his son. He informed the group that anyone who didn't want to accompany him should speak their mind at that point.

At the Dreadkeep, the Black Blade returned with Avalon's child and the Heart of Avalon. The Dreadlord announced that he could complete the Engine Perilous and have his vengeance.

Meanwhile, the Champions of Avalon traveled through Webwood, where Bloodraven confronted Captain Avalon about his rash behavior concerning the kidnapping of his son. Captain Avalon apologized and thanked Bloodraven for reminding him about leading them, instead of focusing on his anguish. As they continued to talk, laughter was heard from the distance. The Champions turned to see the Goblin King and Mysterium, claiming that the Champions owed them a toll. When the Champions denied it, the Goblin King unleashed the Six Most Sinister to attack them. The battle was going in the Champions favor when the Webslinger arrived and demanded they not kill them. Agreeing, Captain Avalon asked Webslinger about the location of the Black Blade. Webslinger suggested they ask the Four Fates.

Days later, the Champions arrived in a village seeking the Four Fates. The man they asked ran in terror, screaming about the X'Changelings war with one another. When they traveled a bit up the road, they were surprised to see a fierce battle between the Seer's X'Changelings and Simon Magnus's group of evil changelings. The Champions sided with Seer's X'Changelings and drove Simon Magnus away from the village. After the battle, Captain Avalon asked Seer if he could sense his son or where the Black Blade might be. Seer could not sense the boy, but did tell the Champions where they could find the Four Fates.

As the Champions arrived at Castle Bakstur, they were greeted by Count Crag. Inside, Captain Avalon spoke with St. Nathaniel, who found the location of Captain Avalon's son. As the Champions left to save the child, the Doomsmith watched ominously. The Champions continued on to the edge of the Deadlands, where they found the Dreadkeep.

Upon their arrival, inside the Dreadkeep, the Dreadlord walked over to the cage holding the son of Captain Avalon and gloated on his upcoming "victory."

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3-fb): Woken in the middle of the night, Blackthorn and Witchfire turned to find Idol, who sweet-talked Witchfire until the others awoke. Once Bloodraven returned from scout duty, Captain Avalon spoke with the other Champions about their plan of attack. Inside the Dreadkeep, the Dreadlord ordered his men to begin work on the Engine Perilous. As the Champions stormed the Dreadkeep, they were met by more of the Minions of Evil. It was then revealed that Idol had betrayed the Champions to the Minions due to a curse placed upon him by the Dreadlord. A fierce battle ensued and the Dreadlord hurled Captain Avalon's son into the air and activated his Engine Perilous. Catching his son and battling Dreadlord in the portal created by the Engine, Captain Avalon told Blackthorn to make sure his son was cared for. Hurling Excelsior to his comrade, Captain Avalon was transported into the past along with the Dreadlord. As the two battled, their past versions merged into the current forms and their memories of their present-day lives disappeared.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1): The story of Eurth's creation was being told to a young man by an adult, who then began to speak of the King of Avalon. After partially telling the story of the Champions of Avalon, the adult told the youngster that more of the tale would be recounted the next night.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2): The next day, the adult told the story of the Champions of Avalon's meeting with Webslinger. After the story of the Webslinger, the adult continued the story of the Champions up until when he mentioned the X'Changelings. The young boy asked who they were and the adult began the story of the X'Changelings.

(Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3): As the adult told the story to the young boy, the boy asked why the Dreadlord hated Captain Avalon so much and the adult began the story of their hatred. After finishing the story of the Champions, the child was told to run along. The red-haired adult visited the inner sanctum of the Order of Avalon, where he explained to the Order that the child must begin his training. Removing his hood, Greenskyn Smashtroll said that he would be the child's bodyguard and then said that the boy had been raised well, revealing the red-haired man to be Prester John. It was revealed afterwards, that Sir Nicholas assumed the throne of Captain Avalon and the child began his training from Greenskyn.

The art chores for the mini-series seemed to mix up throughout the mini-series, as do the inkers. I credited the entire team over the whole 3 issues as the creators since some characters didn't appear in all issues and some did.

It may not be clear, but I can't imagine any reason why the Glorian, Eternity, Infinity, Living Tribunal, Prester John, Shaper of Worlds, Tim, and Uatu were not the Earth-616 versions (or in the case of the Tribunal, the sole version). --Snood.

The whole Earth-Avataars is modeled after characters in Earth-616.

Given the involvement of Glorian, Prester John and Tim in the shaping of this world, I'm not certain Eurth is in another dimension, or whether it is more like Counter-Earth (Franklin), a modified duplicate of the "real" Earth existing somewhere out in space. - Loki
Agreed. I'd think of it as a pocket dimension, but that is unconfirmed. --Snood

Snood points out that Eurth makes at least the fourth duplicate of Earth that may well be located somewhere in the 616 reality, after Counter-Earth (High Evoluntionary) - last seen in the Beyonders' museum dimension; Counter-Earth (Franklin) - sitting on the opposite side of the sun from Earth-616; and Earth (New Universe), brought into the 616 reality by the Stranger and then locked away by the Living Tribunal. - Loki

Apollyon

Apollyon was present at the meeting of all of the Champions of the Realm brought together by Captain Avalon. He remained behind to safeguard Avalon when the Captain and his squad left to find the Black Blade.

Apollyon was presumably a very skilled fighter, given his membership in the Champions of the Realm. It is unknown whether he possessed any other powers, although his Earth-616 counterpart may be the Vision (android).

TJ Burns thinks otherwise. "I disagree with the naming of him as the Vision's counterpart, as the being Idol (Wonder Man) is turned into in the end is much more reminiscent of the Vision in appearance and origin. Apollyon is Greek for Destroyer. With his coloration, comments about an unholy origin, and the clasp of his cloak being what it is, I am certain he was intended to be Drax the Destroyer."

-- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Aura

Aura was one of the X'Changelings associated with Simon Magnus. When the Champions of the Realm joined in to help the Seer's group, Magnus fled, with his minions, including Aura, in tow.

Aura carried a sword, which I'm sure he could use very well. It is unknown whether he possessed any other powers, although given his name, I'm inclined to believe that his Earth-616 counterpart was Unus the Untouchable.

-- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Avalonia

Avalonia was one of the Champions of the Realm who responded to Captain Avalon's call. She remained behind with some of the others to safeguard Avalon when the Captain and his squad left to pursue the Black Blade.

Avalonia was presumably a very gifted fighter, considering her membership in the Champions of the Realm. It was never revealed whether she had any superpowers, although her Earth-616 counterpart was Carol Danvers/Warbird.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Behemoth

Behemoth was present when the Champions of the Realm were called to Avalon. He spoke to the Faery Queen and remained behind along with her and some of the others to safeguard Avalon upon Captain Avalon's request.

Behemoth presumably possessed superhuman strength equivalent to his enormous size. It was unknown whether he could change his size, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Hank Pym/Giant-Man.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Black Blade

When Captain Avalon returned from quelling the trouble in Market Square, he arrived to find his son kidnapped and his queen dead. Captain Avalon then gathered a party to investigate. While doing so, they ran across some of the Minions of Evil, including the Black Blade. During the battle, the Black Blade escaped and made it back to Dreadkeep, where he presented the Dreadlord with Captain Avalon's son and the Heart of Avalon. The Champions of the Realm followed him to Dreadkeep and once they entered, were surprised to find Black Blade and the rest of the Minions of Evil prepared for battle. During the battle, the Black Blade swiped at Captain Avalon and missed, killing Darkwater in the process.

Black Blade rode a black, demonic winged horse and carried a black sword, which he used very masterfully. He seemed to be based on Earth-616's Black Knight (Nathan Garrett).

Black Blade was aka. "Knight of Ebon"

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2,3

Blackthorn

Blackthorn, Witchfire, and Swift were called in to quell the rampaging Greenskyn Smashtroll in the Market Square. A fierce battle ensued until it was broken up by Captain Avalon himself. The Champions returned to Avalon only to discover the queen dead, the prince kidnapped, and the Heart of Avalon stolen. Blackthorn aided the Champions by helping track down the kidnappers. Upon finding the kidnapper, the Black Blade and the Minions of Evil, Moonchild began to conjure a spell. To stop her, Blackthorn fired arrows into her trachea, preventing her from speaking the magic words. Afterwards, Captain Avalon let the call ring out for any Champions of the Realm to aid him in locating his son. Avalon chose Blackthorn as one of the Champions that would accompany him to find the answers he sought. Following encounters with the Webslinger, the X'Changelings, and the Four Fates, the Champions arrived at Dreadkeep. As the Champions stormed Dreadkeep, the Minions of Evil attacked them. During the battle, Captain Avalon followed the Dreadlord into the past, but before he left, he entrusted his shield and his son to Blackthorn.

Blackthorn was very skilled in the use of a bow and arrows. His Earth-616 counterpart was Hawkeye.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2,3

Bloodraven

Bloodraven answered the call when Captain Avalon called for any Champions of the Realm. Bloodraven was also chosen by Avalon to accompany him on the mission to retrieve his son. Along the way, Bloodraven questioned Captain Avalon's actions as being too connected to how his emotions were. Bloodraven suggested that he did not need to worry about his son and that the Champions needed a competent leader. Captain Avalon agreed and the Champions continued on their way. While in Webwood, the Champions were attacked by the Six Most Sinister, where Bloodraven battled Talon. After a counsel with the Four Fates, the Champions arrived at Dreadkeep. Once Bloodraven had done some scouting, they prepared to assault it. Once inside, the group battled the Minions of Evil until Captain Avalon and the Dreadlord traveled back through time using the Engine Perilous.

Bloodraven could fly via feathery wings at his shoulder blades. He also carried two small swords (daggers?), which he wielded in battle. His Earth-616 counterpart was Red Raven.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2 (A:CotS#3

Bluestone

After Captain Avalon called for any and all Champions of the Realm to unite at Castle Avalon, Bluestone was one of the Champions who arrived.

Bluestone was presumably a very skilled fighter, given his membership in the Champions of the Realm. Given the huge gem on the chestplate of his armor, I'm inclined to believe that his Earth-616 counterpart was the Blue Diamond.

TJ Burns concurs "Since Bluestone was in the flashback of Champions during the Worldwar, he's definately intended to be a WWII character. I'd agree he's Blue Diamond."

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Brutus

During the confrontation between the Seer and Simon Magnus's bands of X'Changelings, Brutus battled Hop-Friend until Magnus was driven off by the Champions.

Brutus had unusually large hands and feet and presumably had all of the powers of Earth-616's Beast, who seemed to be his counterpart, including superhuman strength and agility. He also carried an axe.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Captain Avalon (St'vaan)

I think his origin is best summed up during the flashback in #1:

"Four and twenty years ago, a young squire named St'vaan sought out those custodians of ancient and arcane secrets known as the Elders of Avalon, petitioning them to join their order. Moved by his devotion to the realm, they gave to him a potion to drink and sent him upon a quest only the most worthy could complete: to find the enchanted shield Excelsior, which was said to be impervious to any weapon forged. And so St'vaan embarked on a grueling journey of many months, enduring all manner of privations, until he neared death...when at last the Lady of Liberty appeared to him, and bestowed upon him both the shield and the mystic orb called the Heart of Avalon, which showed only truth. St'vaan awoke to find himself healed and imbued with the peak of human vitality by the Lady's radiance, the shield and orb at his side, and realized what had transpired was no fever dream. In the years to come, he fought countless battles in defense of Avalon, and became its king by popular acclaim. Showing no prejudice toward none, he gathered avataars from across the globe and the many races of man to form the Champions of the Realm."

Captain Avalon enjoyed time with his queen, Sharaan, and his son, when he was interrupted by news of Greenskyn Smashtroll's rampage in the Market Square. As other Champions battled Greenskyn, the Captain arrived and broke up the battle. Upon his return to Castle Avalon, he found his queen dead and his son kidnapped. He immediately gathered as many Champions of the Realm as he could and set about finding his son. After many fierce battles, he located his son within the Dreadkeep. During the battle that ensued, he and Dreadlord were transported back in time, where they merged with their past selfs, losing all memory of their own present.

Captain Avalon had peak of human strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility, just like Earth-616's Captain America, who was obviously his counterpart.

While his direct counterpart is clearly Captain America, his origin owes more to Captain Britain - perhaps he is Eurth's member of the Captain Britain Corps? - Loki

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2,3

Champions of the Realm

Gathered together by Captain Avalon to defend his kingdom, it included most of the greatest heroes of Eurth: Apollyon, Avalonia, Behemoth, Blackthorn, Bloodraven, Bluestone, Captain Avalon, Ch'll, Faery Queen, Idol, Ironheart, Merman, Nighthowl, Nosferata, Skorch, Swift, Warmaker, Witchfire

It's Earth-616 equivalent was the Avengers.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2,3

Ch'll

When Captain Avalon called in the help of every Champion of the Realm he could contact, Ch'll was among their numbers. He remained behind to guard Castle Avalon in Captain Avalon's absence.

Ch'll appeared to possess ice-generating, or ice-manipulating abilities, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Jack Frost (Liberty Legion).

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

The Cosmic Powers

(He-Who-Shapes/Shaper of Worlds, Living Tribunal, Uatu the Watcher, Eternity, Infinity)

Before the world was created, He-Who-Shapes beseeched the other Cosmic Powers to allow him to fill the void with a world of unequaled wonder and glory. The Cosmic Powers looked upon He-Who-Shapes' design and agreed that it was good. In the process of creating Eurth, Four Muses were allowed to add their ideas to the newly made planet.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 fb

It may not be clear, but I can't imagine any reason why the Glorian, Eternity, Infinity, Living Tribunal, Prester John, Shaper of Worlds, Tim, and Uatu were not the Earth-616 versions (or in the case of the Tribunal, the sole version). --Snood.

Darkwater

Darkwater was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions when they stormed the Dreadkeep. Unfortunately, Darkwater was killed when Black Blade missed a swing at Captain Avalon, impaling Darkwater.

Darkwater appeared to be made of liquid, most likely water. Presumably, he could manipulate the water, similar to Hydro-Man, who I believe is his Earth-616 counterpart.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Deathlight

Deathlight was another of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions when they stormed the Dreadkeep.

Deathlight appeared to project black energy, most likely Darkforce energy. I believe that the Living Laser is his Earth-616 counterpart. Proto-Man first thought his counterpart might be Blackout, before the design on Deathlight's chest made him reconsider - I think Deathlight might be a combination of the two - Loki
I think Deathlight's look is somewhat reminiscent of the Silver Samurai, but that's about as far as the comparison would go between those two.--Jamie Rosen

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Deathmaster

Deathmaster was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions of the Realm in Blackwater. He, along with Moonchild, were taken out by two or so arrows fired by Blackthorn.

Deathmaster was COVERED in weapons, which apparently he could wield with deadly accuracy. It seemed that his Earth-616 counterpart was Taskmaster.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Doomsmith

When the Champions of the Realm departed Castle Bakstur after consulting the Four Fates, Doomsmith watched with glaring eyes.

Doomsmith wore a huge suit of armor, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Doctor Doom. It was never revealed whether or not he had any sorcerous knowledge like his counterpart.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Dreadlord

Dreadlord's beginnings are best summed up by this quote from issue#3:

"Coveting all the treasures of Eurth, three nations joined together under the flag of Z'axis. Avalon & its allies stood against Z'axis. Thus was begun the Worldwar, unleashing such death & suffering as to stagger the imagination. Led by Captain Avalon, a Legion of Liberty comprised of Avataars banded together to invade the lands under the heel of Z'axis. After many terrible battles, these invaders triumphed, even as Captain Avalon vanquished Z'axis' greatest general, then called Zymo. In his ignominity, Zymo vowed never to remove his hood until Z'axis rose again, & took upon himself the name of Dreadlord."

Once the son of Captain Avalon was kidnapped, he was brought before the Dreadlord, who resided in Dreadkeep. While the Champions battled their way toward the Dreadkeep, Dreadlord spoke aloud the St'vaan Jr. his plan to use the "Engine Perilous" and that young St'vaan would be the instrument of his greatest victory. Once the Champions reached the Dreadkeep, they were confronted by the Minions of Evil, under Dreadlord's command. Captain Avalon and Dreadlord reached a final showdown in which Dreadlord hurled the junior St'vaan into the air. Catching his son, Avalon continued to battle Dreadlord inside the heart of the Engine Perilous. Avalon left the care of his shield and son to Blackthorn, as he, along with Dreadlord, were transported into the past, where they merged with their past selves.

Dreadlord had amazing leadership skills and also had the technology of the Engine Perilous at his disposal.

In case it's not obvious, his Earth-616 counterpart was Baron Henirich Zemo.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2 (A:CotS#3

Duke Ctranj

Duke Ctranj aided Captain Avalon when Greenskyn Smashtroll was brought to Castle Avalon. Ctranj declared that he would do the most he could for Smashtroll's problems with ale.

Duke Ctranj most likely possessed the advanced mystic abilities of his Earth-616 counterpart, Doctor Strange.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Faery Queen (Jhan)

When the call rang out for Champions of the Realm, Faery Queen answered. She seemed rather concerned about the fashions of herself and others. She remained behind at Castle Avalon when Captain Avalon assembled his team of Champions to rescue his son.

Faery Queen could fly via tiny wings. It is unknown whether she had any other powers like her Earth-616 counterpart, Wasp.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Four Fates

(left to right: St. Nathaniel, Lord Nimbus, Count Crag, Lady Aqua, Prince Morningstar)

Their origin is told in the following paragraph taken from Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2:

"It all began with the reclusive alchemist and technomancer St. Nathaniel, who sought to tap into the cosmic pulse of life itself. His sons and daughter volunteered for his experiments; he exposed them to mysterious, eldritch rays...and they were transformed into living incarnations of the four elements. As Lord Nimbus, Count Crag, Lady Aqua, and Prince Morningstar, they became the Four Fates, and embarked on a history of heroic deeds unsurpassed by any on Eurth."

While searching for his son, Captain Avalon and the Champions of the Realm came upon a battle between two bands of X'Changelings. After aiding the Seer's band, the Seer suggested the Champions seek the Four Fates at Castle Bakstur. Upon their arrival at Bakstur, the Champions were greeted by the surly Count Crag and shortly after, were given the location of Avalon's son by St. Nathaniel himself. As they departed Bakstur, Doomsmith watched ominously.

St. Nathaniel was a brilliant alchemist and technomancer. His Earth-616 counterpart was Nathaniel Richards.

Lord Nimbus possessed control of the element of air. His counterpart was Mister Fantastic.

Count Crag possessed control over the element of earth. His counterpart was the Thing.

Lady Aqua possessed control over the element of water. Her counterpart was the Invisible Woman.

Prince Morningstar possessed control over the element of fire. His counterpart was the Human Torch/Johnny Storm.

Interesting that Nimbus got the power of air, and Aqua water, when their respective Earth-616 counterparts are the other way round: Mr.Fantastic is liquid, and can flow into any shape, while Invisible Woman is air, and thus unseen. - Loki

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Four Muses

(Glorian, Prester John, Stranger, Tim)

As Eurth was being created, He-Who-Shapes used the Four Muses to add their ideas to the world itself. Glorian added light and life, Prester John added the memory of a shining realm forgotten, Stranger added mystery, and Tim added heroes. Once Captain Avalon and Dreadlord were transported through time, his son was taken in by a group of individuals who informed him about the world around him and the heroes inhabiting it. It was revealed that Prester John was the one who read to the boy at night.

TJ Burns notes "Tim's books he's holding during the creation of the world are Marvel Super-Heroes RPG supplements"

It may not be clear, but I can't imagine any reason why the Glorian, Eternity, Infinity, Living Tribunal, Prester John, Shaper of Worlds, Tim, and Uatu were not the Earth-616 versions (or in the case of the Tribunal, the sole version). --Snood.

Goblin King

When the Champions passed through Webwood, they were attacked by the Goblin King and his Six Most Sinister, who demanded they pay an unspeakable toll. The Champions swiftly overpowered their attackers. Before the death strike could be made, the Webslinger interrupted the battle and pleaded that they leave their quarry alive.

Goblin King resembled an actual goblin of myth. It is unknown whether he possessed any superpowers, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Green Goblin/Norman Osborn.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Green Death

The Green Death was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions of the Realm when they stormed the Dreadkeep.

Green Death resembled a humanoid-shaped cloud of green gases, presumably toxic. His Earth-616 was Radioactive Man, I believe (anyone else wanna guess?)

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Greenskyn Smashtroll

Greenskyn Smashtroll was a troll and former Champion of the Realm. In recent times, he had fallen to the ale. He rampaged through the Market Square demanding ale and fighting off other members of the Champions of the Realm until Captain Avalon broke up the fight and brought Smashtroll back to Castle Avalon. After the disappearance of Captain Avalon within the timestream, Greenskyn trained his son in the art of fighting.

Greenskyn Smashtroll possessed superhuman strength sufficient to destroy nearby boxes and crates. He also has superhuman durability to the point of being able to shrug off multiple punches delivered at superhuman speed. It is unknown whether he possessed any other powers, like his Earth-616 counterpart, the incredible Hulk.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#3

Hop-Friend

Hop-Friend was one of the X'Changelings in the service of Simon Magnus. He battled Brutus until Magnus was drove off by the Champions of the Realm.

Hop-Friend presumably had superhuman leaping abilities, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Toad.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Humongous

Humongous was one of the X'Changelings in the service of Simon Magnus. He battled Psyche and Redeye until the Champions of the Realm drove off Simon Magnus, along with his minions.

Humongous presumably possessed the same immovability powers as his Earth-616 counterpart, the Blob.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Huntsman

Huntsman was one of the members of the Six Most Sinister. He battled Nighthowl but was saved by the intervention of the Webslinger, who pleaded that the Champions not kill their quarry.

Huntsman used two fist daggers and was a skilled hunter, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Kraven.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Icemaker

Icemaker was one of the X'Changelings in the service of the Seer. He battled members of Simon Magnus' band of X'Changelings until Magnus was drove off by the Champions of the Realm.

Icemaker could generate ice, like his counterpart, Iceman.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Idol (Symon)

Idol arrived at Castle Avalon when Captain Avalon called for every Champion of the Realm. Idol was picked by Avalon himself to accompany him on the mission to rescue his son. The night before the Champions' raid on the Dreadkeep, Idol claimed to have scouted and that the servants' entrance was the easiest way inside. Upon their arrival inside, the Champions were betrayed by Idol and attacked by the Minions of Evil. Idol revealed that he had been cursed by Dreadlord to do his bidding or die. As the battle ensued, Idol could not simply stand by as his newfound friends were injured. He began to fight back, killing himself in the process. Witchfire quickly used her hexes to bring forth an energy form of Idol and Symon's mind inhabited it.

Originally, Idol did not appear to have any powers, but after his death and transformation, he existed as an energy being, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Wonder Man. In the energy form, Symon was known as Phantazm.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2 (A:CotS#3

Illusio

Illusio was one of the X'Changelings in the service of Simon Magnus. He battled the Seer's band of X'Changelings until he, along with Simon Magnus, was driven off by the arrival of the Champions of the Realm.

Illusio presumably had the same illusion-creating powers as his Earth-616 counterpart, Mastermind.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Ill Wind

Ill Wind was one of the Minions of Evil that attacked the Champions at Blackwater, where he attacked Swift. He escaped along with the Black Blade at Blackwater and returned when the Champions infiltrated the Dreadkeep.

Ill Wind could spin at superhuman speed, generating powerful winds. His Earth-616 counterpart was Whirlwind.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#3

Iron Cross

Iron Cross was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions upon their arrival inside the Dreadkeep. He attacked Ironheart.

Iron Cross was a very skilled fighter and he seemed to based on Crossfire, given the red crosses, although I suppose he could very well be based on Earth-616's Iron Cross.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Ironheart

Ironheart was one of the Champions of the Realm who arrived after Captain Avalon called for every Champion. He accompanied Avalon on his mission to retrieve his kidnapped son. During their battle with the Six Most Sinister, Ironheart battled Sandstorm and later battled the Iron Cross inside the Dreadkeep.

Ironheart wore a huge set of armor that gave him superhuman strength. His Earth-616 counterpart was Iron Man/Tony Stark.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2 (A:CotS#3

Jolt

Jolt was one of the Six Most Sinister, led by the Goblin King, who attacked the Champions inside the Webwood.

Jolt could generate electrical energy, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Electro.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Lady of Liberty

Years before, the Lady of Liberty entrusted the shield, Excelsior, and the Heart of Avalon with a young man named St'vaan, who eventually became Captain Avalon. She also empowered him with the peak of human vitality.

Lady of Liberty apparently has some fairly strong mystical abilities, allowing her to imbue others with power.

Given the way she empowered Captain Avalon, I wonder if the Lady of Liberty is another name for Roma, who helped create Captain Britain. - Loki

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 fb

Legion of Liberty

A team of heroes who fought together against the Z'axis, during the Worldwar.

Earth-616's corresponding team was the Liberty Legion.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3 fb

Merman

Merman was one of the founding members of the Champions of the Realm. During a practice battle between himself and Skorch, the Market Square was attacked by Greenskyn Smashtroll. The duo raced to the scene and began a battle until Captain Avalon calmed the conflict. Upon their return to Castle Avalon, the Captain discovered that his son and the Heart of Avalon had been stolen. Merman, along with the other Champions, announced that they would aid Avalon in his quest to locate his son.

Merman could survive underwater and had superhuman strength, as well as the ability to fly. His Earth-616 counterpart was the Sub-Mariner.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2

Minions of Evil

Gathered together by the Dreadlord to battle the Champions of the Realm, the Minions included Black Blade, Bludving, Darkwater, Deathlight, Deathmaster, Green Death, Ill Wind, Iron Cross, Moonchild, Savagri, Scarabus, Scorpius, Scythe, Skreech, Slag, Swashbuckler among its members. On Earth-616 Baron Zemo gathered a similar group, the Masters of Evil.

Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2,3

Moonchild

Moonchild was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions of the Realm at Blackwater. She was taken out by arrows fired by Blackthorn.

Moonchild apparently had some sort of magic abilities, considering that she announced conjuring words before being shot with arrows. She seems to be based on Moondragon.

"Mike H." has a different point of view "Moonchild seems to me, to be Moonstone. This would make more sense, as the team she is on is based on the Masters of Evil and especially if Deathlight is based on Blackout. (The last time we saw the two together was as MoE vs the Avengers with her in control of Blackout)"

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Mysterium

Mysterium was one of the members of the Six Most Sinister. He was taken out by one of Witchfire's hexes.

Mysterium can presumably emit gases, somewhat like his Earth-616 counterpart, Mysterio.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Nighthowl

Nighthowl was one of the Champions of the Realm who answered the call of Captain Avalon. Avalon chose him as one of the Champions to accompany him on his mission to rescue his son. While travelling through the Webwood, the Champions were attacked by the Goblin King and his Six Most Sinister. The Huntsman decided to attack Nighthowl, who promptly bit the Huntsman. The Webslinger interrupted Nighthowl and pleaded that he not kill the Huntsman. After visiting the Four Fates and discovering that Avalon's son was being held in the Dreadkeep, the Champions planned a method of attack. During the early hours of the morning, Nighthowl returned with "breakfast" consisting of a few rabbits, to the disgust of Witchfire. Once the sun rose, the Champions attacked and to their dismay, found that the Minions of Evil knew of their plan thanks to the betrayal of Idol. As the battle ensued, Captain Avalon and the Dreadlord were transported back in time, where they merged with their past selves.

Nighthowl seemed to have enhanced senses and hunting skills. His Earth-616 counterpart seemed to be Wolverine, although I suppose it's anyone's guess.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2 (A:CotS#3

Nosferata

Nosferata was one of the many Champions who answered the call of Captain Avalon. She remained behind when Avalon left to rescue his son.

Nosferata was presumably an accomplished fighter, given her membership in the Champions of the Realm. It was unknown whether she had any other superpowers. Her Earth-616 counterpart could have been Black Widow/Claire Voyant.

TJ Burns agrees "She was also in the Worldwar flashback, and with her unliving reference, I couldn't see her being anyone other than Claire Voyant."

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Psyche

Psyche was a member of the Seer's band of X'Changelings. She, along with Redeye, battled Illusio and Humongous until Magnus and his cohorts were driven off by the arrival of the Champions.

Psyche apparently had psychic abilities of an unknown nature, although it was most likely telekinesis or telepathy, given that her Earth-616 counterpart was Jean Grey.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Queen Sharaan & St'vaan Jr.

Queen Sharaan kissed Captain Avalon before he left to quell the rampage of Greenskyn Smashtroll in the Market Square. When he returned, Sharaan was dead and St'vaan Jr. had been kidnapped by the Black Blade. Once inside the Dreadkeep, Dreadlord announced that young St'vaan would be the instrument of his greatest triumph. Once the Champions stormed the Dreadkeep, a fierce battle between Dreadlord and Captain Avalon ensued, in which Dreadlord hurled the young St'vaan into the air. Saving his son's life, Captain Avalon pursued Dreadlord into the Engine Perilous, entrusting the safety of his son with Blackthorn. Years following that battle, Prester John explained the story of his father's courage to the young St'vaan as part of his training as a hero.

Queen Sharaan's Earth-616 counterpart was Agent 13/Sharon Carter and St'vaan Jr. had no counterpart. Neither of them had any superpowers.

Sharaan: - Avataars: Covenant of the Shield #1

St'vaan Jr.: - Avataars: Covenant of the Shield #1 (A:CotS#2,3

Redeye

Redeye was one of the X'Changelings in the service of the Seer. He and Psyche battled Humongous and Illusio until the Champions arrived and drove off Simon Magnus and his minions.

Redeye, like his Earth-616 counterpart of Cyclops, could project crimson energy blasts from his eyes.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Sandstorm

Sandstorm was one of the members of the Six Most Sinister. He battled Ironheart to a standstill until the Webslinger arrived and broke up the battle.

Sandstorm appeared to made of living sand, which he could manipulate like his counterpart, the Sandman.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Savagri

Savagri was a member of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions in Blackwater. During the fight, Merman impaled Scorpius, causing his scorpion-like tail to strike at random, killing Savagri.

Savagri was a fierce fighter who carried an axe and a shield. Her Earth-616 counterpart appeared to be Titania.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Scarabus

Scarabus was a member of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions during their storm on the Dreadkeep. He battled the Champions until Dreadlord and Captain Avalon were transported through time.
I think Scarabus is an alternate version of the Beetle -- the names seem to match. --Jamie Rosen

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Scorpius

Scorpius was also a member of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions in Blackwater. Von Bludving commanded him to kill the Champions, but Scorpius was impaled by Merman. While dying, Scorpius' tail struck blindly, killing Savagri in the process.

Scorpius resembled a humanoid scorpion, complete with a presumably poisonous tail. His Earth-616 counterpart was the Scorpion.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Scythe

Scythe was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions during their attack on the Dreadkeep. During the battle, he fought Nighthowl, but was knocked out when the Idol turned against Dreadlord's curse and fought back.

Scythe resembled a skeletal-like creature and wielded a giant scythe. His Earth-616 counterpart was the Grim Reaper.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Seer

Seer was the leader of a band of X'Changelings that promoted understanding and harmony between humans and the X'Changelings. His group battled a band of X'Changelings led by Simon Magnus until the Champions arrived and drove Magnus off. Thankful, the Seer agreed to aid Avalon by trying to locate Avalon's son via psychic means.

Seer had the ability of psionic project. He most likely had other psychic abilities like his counterpart, Professor X.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Simon Magnus

Simon Magnus was the leader of the opposing band of X'Changelings, which promoted the idea that the X'Changelings supplant the humans entirely. His band of X'Changelings were battling the Seer's band when the Champions appeared. Witchfire quickly denounced Magnus' ways and conjured a hex which bound Magnus' body. Simon Magnus quickly undid the hex, but was driven off by the other Champions.

Simon Magnus possessed the abilities to generate energy shields and break hexes. His powers were possibly magnetic in nature, given that his 616 counterpart was Magneto.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Sir Nicholas

Sir Nicholas became king after the disappearance of Captain Avalon. He was a regent. His Earth-616 counterpart was Nick Fury.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Six Most Sinister

Enemies of the Webslinger who lurked in the Webwood and confronted the Champions during their quest to rescue Captain Avalon's son. Consisting of Huntsman, Jolt, Mysterium, Sandstorm, Talon, Tentaclus, they were Eurth's version of the Sinister Six.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Skorch

Skorch was a member of the Champions of Avalon who practiced against Merman until Greenskyn Smashtroll rampaged through the Market Square. Both heroes arrived in time to see Captain Avalon break up the battle. Upon returning to Castle Avalon, the Captain found his queen dead and his son kidnapped. In pursuit of the Black Blade, the Champions traveled to Blackwater, where Skorch battled Slag of the Minions of Evil. Skorch remained behind at Castle Avalon when Captain Avalon began his quest for his son.

Skorch possessed the ability to generate and control fire and flames, like his 616 counterpart of Human Torch/Jim Hammond.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Skreech

Skreech was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions during their storm on the Dreadkeep. He was knocked out during the battle.

Skreech could project sonic energy from his metallic weapon affixed to his hand. His counterpart was Klaw.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Slag

Slag was one of the Minions of Evil who first attacked the Champions at Blackwater when they were in pursuit of the Black Blade. To cover the escape of the Black Blade, Slag attacked Skorch and the two battled until Slag was knocked unconscious. Slag later attacked the Champions when they stormed the Dreadkeep, where he was once again knocked unconscious.

Slag could generate intense heat and flame. I suppose his Earth-616 counterpart would have been the Melter.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#3

Swashbuckler

Swashbuckler was also a member of the Minions of Evil and attacked the Champions when they stormed the Dreadkeep. He was knocked unconscious during the battle.

Swashbuckler was an accomplished swordsman, like his counterpart's namesake, the Swordsman.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Swift

Swift was a member of the Champions of the Realm and aided in the battle against Greenskyn Smashtroll in the Market Square. He also accompanied the Champions in their pursuit of the Black Blade at Blackwater. He remained behind once Captain Avalon left to find his son.

Swift could move at superhuman speeds, like his 616 counterpart of Quicksilver.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1 (A:CotS#2

Talon

Talon was a member of the Six Most Sinister who attacked the Champions during their trek through the Webwood. He battled Bloodraven until the Webslinger broke up the battle.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Tentaclus

Tentaclus was also a member of the Six Most Sinister. He battled Idol, where one of his tentacles was severed by Idol's sword. Before Idol could finish his fight, the Webslinger broke up the battle.

Tentaclus resembled a humanoid octopus, complete with eight tentacles. His Earth-616 counterpart was Doctor Octopus.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Titan

Titan was one of the Minions of Evil who attacked the Champions during their storm of the Dreadkeep. His counterpart might have been Atlas/ Erik Josten. - Loki

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#3

Von Bludving

Once Captain Avalon's child and the Heart of Avalon were stolen, and the Champions of the Realm split up to retrieve the two, a group of the Champions battled Bludving's group of the Minions of Evil. Bludving led the small group to "slay" the Champions, only to have himself hexed by Witchfire.

Von Bludving appeared to be a vampire, given his razor-sharp fangs. He presumably possessed similar powers of any other vampire, including superhuman strength, immortality, and the ability to transform into mist, a bat, or a wolf. He also carried a bone-like sword and shield. Given his color scheme, his Earth-616 counterpart seemed to be Morbius, although it could have very well been Baron Blood, the Captain America villain.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#1

Warmaker

Warmaker was one of the many Champions of the Realm who responded to Captain Avalon's call. He remained behind to guard Castle Avalon when a small group of Champions left to find Avalon's son.

Warmaker was one of the Unliving, making him virtually immortal. It is unknown if he possessed any other superpowers like his Earth-616 counterpart, Thor.

TJ Burns isn't so certain that Warmaker is Thor. "He definately has a winged helm like Thor, but I feel that the reference to him as a "Mighty Destroyer" and his appearance in the Worldwar flashback names him as a counterpart of the Mighty Destroyer. Amusingly, the original Mighty Destroyer (Union Jack II) was empowered by Thor... after Thor killed him with lightning in Invaders. Which might explain the "unliving" argument if something similar happened to his counterpart, as well as the helm. I have to think the Mighty Destroyer line, standing out as it was, has to have some significance in guessing his ID."

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Webslinger

Webslinger's origin was best summed up by a quote from Avataars#2:

"Once he was human, even as you or I, but a young lad long fascinated with spiders; so great was his admiration of them that he drew the attention of the Widow of the Web, who gave unto him the gift of a spider's nature. Her one condition was that he never use the powers she granted him for personal gain. One day, however, a brigand attacked his beloved uncle, and the youth struck back, saving his uncle's life and capturing the thief...but in so doing, sealing his own fate. For the Widow of the Web saw this, and was angered; she declared that the youth had broken his vow to her by using his powers in his own interest. And so she cursed him with great responsibility; forevermore he would be the guardian of Webwood, the loneliest of all avataars; an outcast among men, thought an outlaw by those he must protect."

During the Champions' journey through the Webwood, they were attacked by the Goblin King and his Six Most Sinister. A fight ensued, but was broken up by the Webslinger who decreed that the Champions not kill their opponents. After speaking with Captain Avalon, the Webslinger suggested they find the Four Fates.

Webslinger resembled a humanoid spider, complete with extra arms and web-generating abilities. It is unknown whether he possessed any other superpowers, like his Earth-616 counterpart, Spider-Man.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Whitehawk

Whitehawk was one of the Seer's band of X'Changelings. He battled members of Simon Magnus' band until the battle was broken up by the arrival of the Champions of the Realm.

Whitehawk could fly via feathery wings. His 616 counterpart was Archangel.

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2

Widow of the Web

The Widow of the Web bestowed powers to the Webslinger, but also cursed him with great responsibility because of his use of the powers for personal interest.

The Widow of the Web appeared by a fairly strong sorceress, at least, she was able to imbue others with power and curse as well. She also had eight appendages and could generate webbing.

Her Earth-616 counterpart might have been Madame Web. - Loki

- Avataars: Covenant of the Shield#2 fb

Witchfire

Witchfire was a member of the Champions of the Realm who aided in the battle against Greenskyn Smashtroll in the Market Square. She cast a hex upon Smashtroll, enveloping him in a mist-like dragon until Captain Avalon arrived and broke up the battle. Upon returning to Castle Avalon, the Champions discovered their queen dead and their prince missing. The group pursued the Black Blade to Blackwater, where they battled the Minions of Evil. Witchfire cast a hex upon Von Bludving, causing the ghosts of his victims to claim vengeance upon him. During the battle, the Black Blade made a hasty escape and the Champions returned to Avalon and called for every Champion. Witchfire joined Captain Avalon in searching for his son and when they traveled through the Webwood, they were attacked by the Six Most Sinister. She cast a hex upon Mysterium, causing his gas powers to backfire. From there, the Champions traveled towards Castle Bakstur, but were interrupted by a battle between the X'Changelings. Recognizing Magnus, Witchfire claimed that she and Swift were misled into joining him once and she cast a hex upon him that bound him in the air. Magnus broke free of the hex only to be driven off by the remaining Champions. Once arriving at Bakstur, the Champions discovered that the prince was being held in the Dreadkeep, where they immediately journeyed to. Upon storming the Dreadkeep, it was revealed that Idol had betrayed the team due to a curse that made him do the bidding of the Dreadlord. As the battle ensued, Idol fought back, causing his curse to slowly kill him. Not willing to lose the love of her life, Witchfire cast a hex upon him that transformed his consciousness into energy.

Witchfire possessed the ability to cast magical hexes on her opponents. Her 616 counterpart was Scarlet Witch.

X'Changelings

Outcasts gathered together by Seer to promote co-existence between humans and the "ex-changed", and to combat Simon Magnus' evil "ex-changelings". Brutus, Icemaker, Psyche, Redeye, Whitehawk were Eurth's version of the original X-Men, while Simon Magnus' team were the counterparts of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
