History:

Quill's first day

(New X-Men II#1) - As soon as Quill arrived at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, he was shown around by co-headmasters Cyclops and Emma Frost along with Dryad, Icarus and two other students. After explaining they would first and foremost get an education at the school, Quill wondered why Cyclops wore his visor. To help explain why, Cyclops asked Quill to fire some of his quills into the air so he could hit them with his optic blasts. The tour was concluded with a visit to the school's cafetaria and basketball court, though Emma and Scott also showed the students the Danger Room where they would be receiving advanced combat training. Quill was later seen having lunch at the cafetaria.

(New X-Men II#2) - While at Xavier's, Quill was among the students selected to join one of the special training squads mentored by various members of the X-Men. He was placed on the Corsairs, led by Cyclops. Scott Summers introduced "his" Corsairs to the entire student body during a special ceremony.

(New X-Men II#4) - Quill was seen having lunch at the cafetaria.

(New X-Men II#4 - BTS) - The Corsairs participated in their first field day assignment against the Institute's other squads: the New Mutants, Hellions, Alpha Squadron, Excelsiors and the Exemplars.

(New X-Men II#7) - Quill was seen with Rockslide during a class being thought by Gambit while the New Mutants showed David's sister Kim along the school grounds.

(New X-Men II#10 - BTS) - Quill and his fellow Corsairs participated in the second field day assignment against the other training squads. The day was marked with multiple assignments to test a potential X-Man's various skills: battling a Hulk construct in the Danger Room, saving a child, solving a crime and stealing an artifact.

(New X-Men II#13) - After Northstar was killed by Wolverine (who was brainwashed by the Hand at the time) Quill and other students attended his funeral where a statue was revealed in Beaubier's honor.

Quill at Spring Dance

(New X-Men II#14) - Quill attended the school's Spring Dance. When he noticed fellow student Nori Ashida (Surge) looked somewhat uncomfortable, he decided to ask her to dance. To his own surprise, Nori agreed and the two of them joined the others on the dance floor.

(New X-Men II#15 / New X-Men Yearbook Special#1 - BTS) - During the annual prize giving ceremony the Hellions were rewarded with the first prize for their impressive performance, the Corsairs received second place.

(Gambit IV#10 (fb) - BTS) - Quill and his friends Eugene and Winston tried to break into the headmaster's study to steal a copy of their computer science test but were caught by Kitty Pryde.

(Gambit IV#10) - To punish the students while also hoping to give them a role model of sorts, she assigned them to Gambit for the day. Gambit figured if he were to teach the boys anything, it would be to become a skilled thief. He took them along when he tried to retrieve a disc filled with erotic content that starred him and an ex-girlfriend that someone had sent to Rogue. Gambit obviously wanted to retrieve it before she saw it. During their quest Quill and his friends met numerous X-Men but before they could complete their mission Gambit was called away to help the X-Men fight off a group of creatures tearing up Manhattan.

(Gambit IV#10 (fb) - BTS) - In Gambit's absence, Quill and his friends were determined to retrieve the disc anyway. They managed to hack into the school's computer and break the algorithmic code behind the security system. They then planted a self-replicating virus that caused it to default into a manual override mode. After memorizing the blueprints to the mansion and sneaking through the heating ducks, they picked the double lock to Rogue's room and located the disc.

(Gambit IV#10) - When Gambit returned from his mission, Quill and the others handed him the disc and explained how they did it. As a thank you, Gambit gave the boys a copy of the makeup test Kitty Pryde would be giving them the next day, along with the answers to their next three pop quizzes. LeBeau had swiped it off Kitty's desk, reasoning that they had put in much more work in getting the disc than they would if they had just studied. And, this way the boys also learned some valuable skills. Watching Gambit drive off with Rogue, Quill mentioned he now wanted to become a thief.

(New X-Men Yearbook Special#1) - Alongside his fellow Corsairs members, Quill posed for a group photo for the Xavier yearbook. In the yearbook, Quill was voted as being the class clown. He disliked cliches and people who rubbed him the wrong way.

Quill in Battle Royale

(House of M#8 - BTS) - When millions of mutants lost their powers when a reality altering spell cast by the Scarlet Witch reduced the number of gene active mutants to a mere 300 worldwide, Quill was one of the twenty-five X-Students that actually retained his mutant powers.

(X-Men: The 198 Files - BTS) - General Demetrius Lazer of O*N*E made a threat assessment of the remaining mutants. In this report, he analyzed Quill too and figured that there was no significant opposition to be expected from him.

(New X-Men II#23) - Two weeks after the global depowering that had become known as M-Day, Xavier Institute headmaster Emma Frost pitted all remaining students against each other in a battle royale to choose a team who would go on to train as New X-Men. Eager to prove his worth Quill joined the battle but was taken out by X-23. After Emma chose her six "winners" and Cyclops had added a surprise seventh, the headmasters announced all depowered students would be sent home. A first busload of students had already left when a second, carrying another 42 former mutant teens, was blown up. The attack was carried out by the Purifiers who were acting on the orders from their leader, the Reverend William Stryker.

(New X-Men II#26) - Following the screams of Elixir (Josh Foley), Quill and Match arrived to see the lifeless body of Laurie Collins (Wallflower) who had just been shot by the Purifier Matthew Risman.

Quill's death

(New X-Men II#27) - Sometime later the Purifiers managed to infiltrate the Xavier Institute in the hopes of killing all remaining mutants. During their all out attack, Emma Frost telepathically warned all students to remain in their rooms. When Quill decided to sneak a peek in the hallway following some gunshots, he saw Pixie and Anole leaving their quarters. Before he could join them, he was spotted by one of the Purifiers who shot him. After the New X-Men managed to defeat William Stryker the corpse of Quill was found and taken in by the agents of O*N*E.

(New X-Men II#28) - In an attempt to torture Carol Danvers, Emma Frost showed her the corpse of Quill and other murdered mutants to emphasize her point that the Avengers had never been there for the mutant community.

(New X-Men II#32 - BTS) - Quill was one of the deceased mutants who was remembered during a memorial service attended by the X-Men, the remaining students and their allies.

(Magneto IV#4 - BTS) - Quill's name was seen on the memorial of fallen mutants in one of Magneto's hidden bases, serving as a constant reminder why he fought for his fellow mutants.

It's interesting to note that a relatively minor character like Quill made it to the big screen long before most of the actual X-Men did. He appeared in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand movie as part of Magneto's personal squad. Quill was played by actor Ken Leung.

New Avengers I#18 erroneously listed Quill as one of the mutants who had lost his powers.

Quill was part of the Xavier's Institute entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe HC#13.
