introductionHistory:

(New X-Men II#2) - While at Xavier's, Quill, Dryad, D.J. and one unidentified student were selected to join one of the special training squads mentored by various members of the X-Men. They were placed on the Corsairs, led by Cyclops. Scott Summers introduced "his" Corsairs to the entire student body during a special ceremony.

(New X-Men II#2 - BTS) - Sometime after the official presentation and under unrevealed circumstances several students switched training squads. D.J. would switch training squads with Specter of the Paragons, the one unidentified Corsairs member would leave and the Stepford Cuckoos would also join the Corsairs.

(New X-Men II#4 - BTS) - The Corsairs participated in their first field day assignment against the Institute's other squads: the New Mutants, Hellions, Alpha Squadron, Excelsiors and the Exemplars.

(New X-Men II#10 - BTS) - The Corsairs participated in the second field day assignment against the other training squads. The day was marked with multiple assignments to test a potential X-Man's various skills: battling a Hulk construct in the Danger Room, saving a child, solving a crime and stealing an artifact.

(New X-Men II#15 - BTS / New X-Men Yearbook Special#1 - BTS) - During the annual prize giving ceremony the Hellions were rewarded with the first prize for their impressive performance, the Corsairs received second place.

(New X-Men Yearbook Special#1) - The Corsairs posed for a group photo for the Xavier yearbook. In the yearbook, each individual member's likes and dislikes were also mentioned.

(House of M#8 - BTS) - When millions of mutants lost their powers when a reality altering spell cast by the Scarlet Witch reduced the number of gene active mutants to a mere 300 worldwide, two of the Corsair members also lost their powers.

Quill in Battle Royale

(New X-Men II#23) - Two weeks after the global depowering that had become known as M-Day all student training squads disbanded since only twenty-five X-Students had retained their powers. Xavier Institute headmaster Emma Frost pitted all remaining students against each other in a battle royale to choose a team who would go on to train as New X-Men. Upset about Emma's plan the Stepford Cuckoos went to get Cyclops while the remaining Corsair member Quill fought in the battle royale, but was taken out by X-23.

Comments: Created by Nunzio DeFilippis, Christina Weir (writers), Randy Green (pencils), Rick Ketcham (inks).

The Corsairs were of course named after Cyclops' father, the space fairing Corsair (Christopher Summers) who was part of the Starjammers.

During their time as part of the Corsairs squad Dryad, Quill and D.J. also made appearances in New X-Men II#4-5, 7, 13-15. You can read about those in their individual profiles. The Stepford Cuckoos as part of the Corsairs also made appearances in Astonishing X-Men III#5-8 and X-Men: Phoenix Endsong.

After the disbanding of the Corsairs Dryad and former member D.J. died in the bombing of a bus by the Purifiers, writer Chris Yost has confirmed that Specter is still alive, living with his grandparents.

Unidentified member

    Real Name: Unrevealed

(New X-Men II#1) - As soon as this as of yet unidentified helmeted mutant arrived at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, he received a tour of the facilities by headmasters Cyclops and Emma Frost along with four other students. After explaining they would first and foremost get an education at the school, Frost showed her telepathic powers, which scared the young students who were unfamiliar with hearing a telepathic voice in their head. The tour was concluded with a visit to the school's cafeteria and basketball court, though Emma and Scott also showed the students the Danger Room where they would be receiving advanced combat training.

(New X-Men II#2) - While at Xavier's, he was selected to join the Corsairs, led by Cyclops. Scott Summers introduced "his" Corsairs to the entire student body during a special ceremony.

(New X-Men II#2 - BTS) - Sometime after the official presentation and under unrevealed circumstances he disappeared from the group.

Comments: It's been unrevealed who this mutant student was or what his mutant powers might hold, although one could speculate of course that he might have returned home or died in some mutant-related accident. The blonde student however, wore a containment suit that could point to several things. Either keeping him safe from outside forces or keeping others safe from his mutant powers.
