First Appearance: Inhuman#4 (October, 2014)

Powers/Abilities: After undergoing Terrigenesis, Reader discovered the ability to alter reality based on any words he read. After accidentally burning down his house and killing his parents, Reader's eyes were gouged out, and he trained for years in physical combat and martial arts, making him an expert in fighting with a stick against multiple foes, and he has been seen to use a sword in combat. In time, Reader learned to read Braille, keeping a collection of Braille cards on his person to allow him to have easy words at hand. Reader gets three "reads" before he must sleep to recharge his powers, with the first being the strongest and then growing weaker with each subsequent "read". Reader most frequently uses his powers to see through the eyes of his dog Forey. While Reader most commonly uses just one word to focus his powers, he will sometimes read an entire text before activating the powers instead. Reader has used his powers to create new life at least twice, forming beings based on people he knew or read about, but giving them incomplete memories, motivations, and changes in powers and histories; both of these beings, Auran and Mike Murdock, are alive and well within the Marvel Universe. Reader has used his powers to heal others, to travel back in time (minutes in some cases and thousands of years in others), to transport someone to the Astral Plane (using a made up word 'Floob', given meaning by Maximus), to set fire to a structure, to speak fluent Chinese, to freeze time, to teleport short and long distances, to find clues in mysteries, to track scents, to create a castle or headquarters and later collapse it, to rewrite someone's reality or memories, to turn someone into Braille, and even to kill an enemy. Reader is generally accompanied by his faithful companion, Forey, a dog whose life he may have saved or prolonged multiple times. Reader sometimes uses technology in his missions, including mechanical wings and cloaking technology.

Height: 5'11" (by approximation)

History:
(Uncanny Inhumans#1 (fb) - BTS) - Reader grew up in Orollan, under the rule of the priest-lords, who he grew to see as murdering zealots in time.

(Uncanny Inhumans#10 (fb) - BTS) - When Reader was exposed to the Terrigen Mists, he didn't seem to go through any changes, and the elders were baffled about what his powers might be. That night, he went to sleep after reading the book Farenheit 451, and when he woke, he discovered his powers had caused his house to burn down, killing his own parents. Understanding his powers and afraid of them, the elders had the boy blinded, but he eventually discovered he could still read Braille, and he experimented with how his powers worked, manifesting different realities when he read different words.

(Inhuman#12 (fb) - BTS) - Reader visited Attilan many times, becoming acquainted with king Black Bolt and queen Medusa.

(Inhuman#9 (fb) - BTS) - Reader and Forey visited the Ennilux offices multiple times. Capo, the dying leader of Ennilux, paid Reader to bring him new Inhuman recruits.

(Inhuman#4) - In China, Reader, with Forey, entered the Terrigen Cloud, using mechanized wings and cloaking tech, then he intervened in a conflict between the Chinese military and a newly emerged Inhuman, Xiaoyi Chen, a pressure manipulator. Reader used three "reads", to see through Forey, to speak fluent Chinese, and to freeze time, then he saved Xiaoyi's life. She chose to leave with him, determined to let her parents think she was dead so she could begin a new life.

(Inhuman#9 (fb) - BTS) - Reader spent weeks training Xiaoyi in the use of her powers. They crossed several borders, working their way toward the Inhuman city of Ennilux.

(Inhuman#9) - In Turkey, Xiaoyi, Reader, and Forey were approached by armed criminals who wanted Xiaoyi for themselves. Xiaoyi defeated four of them with her powers, then Reader, using Forey's eyes, defeated the last one. In time, they arrived at the Ennilux offices in Venice, where Rafaela greeted them. On their walk in, Xiaoyi recognized a symbol on the wall that matched the criminals who had attacked them, and they realized that Ennilux had sent the men after them. They were shown in to meet Capo, the leader of Ennilux, and Reader left the confused Xiaoyi there as Capo promised to pay Reader. Reader was relaxing when he heard that the scientists, who named Xiaoyi "Iso", planned to transfer the Capo's consciousness into her form, ending her life to prolong his.

(Inhuman#10) - As Iso's brain was being mapped in preparation for the transfer, Reader and Forey attacked the doctors in the room. When he disconnected Iso from the machine, she realized she could now speak English, having learned it from the connection to Capo. Capo was furious, but Reader ripped up the check he'd been given. As the guards rushed in, Reader teleported her away. As they landed in the river outside, Iso confronted Reader over him having sold her, but then Capo, in his astral form, appeared over them.

(Inhuman#11) - Capo and his guards, in flying craft, chased down Iso and Reader (with Forey) in Venice, but Iso used her powers to pressurize the craft, causing them to explode. Reader used his last reading of the day to travel with Iso, and Forey ten minutes back in time, then, out of power, he told Iso to get them someplace safe. They found a nearby church, where Iso used her power to put Reader to sleep so his power could recharge. When Capo and his guards attacked, Iso used her power to reawaken Reader, and he used his staff to push a guard away, then he used his new first "read" to teleport himself, Iso, and Forey all the way to New Attilan in New York City, where the Inhuman military, including Black Bolt and Gorgon, stood ready to help them.

(Inhuman#12) - After Black Bolt destroyed the forces of Ennilux, Reader took Iso to meet Black Bolt, Gorgon, and Medusa, and the king offered Iso refuge. Iso bid him farewell, not daring to quite trust him.

(Inhuman Annual#1) - Reader heard Lineage speak telepathically to all of the Inhumans, saying it was time to seize power.

(Uncanny Inhumans#1) - Hired by Black Bolt, Reader (with Forey) used his powers to take Black Bolt and Triton back in time to Attilan 13,000 years ago, where Reader used Forey's eyes to see the beautiful city as it existed then. Kang the Conqueror suddenly attacked, drawing the three Inhumans and Forey into a time bubble and displacing them in 1961, on an island where a hydrogen bomb was set to detonate. Kang then sent an army of dinosaurs and men from various time periods against them, wanting revenge on Black Bolt for breaking an agreement they had. Reader used his last "read" to take them back ten minutes in time, which returned them to the Quiet Room in New York City in the present day. Worried for a moment that he had lost his dog, Reader was thrilled to see that Forey had survived.

(Uncanny Inhumans#2 (fb) - BTS) - Reader tried to reach out to Iso, but she ignored him.

(Uncanny Inhumans#2) - Reader (with Forey), Human Torch, Beast, and Iso were invited to a meeting with many of the Royal Family, and they discussed how Kang had Ahura. Gorgon disappeared from the timeline and they realized that Kang was tampering with the past, so Beast protected them all in a time bubble. Realizing they could use Reader's powers to go back in time, Human Torch ran to grab supplies even as entire genetic lines of Inhumans were disappearing. Reader took the group back in time, and they discovered an elderly Ahura dressed as Kang the Conquerer.

(Uncanny Inhumans#3) - Ahura generated psychic doubles who fired arrows, wounding Iso, Forey, and Beast. Reader used his instincts and his staff to protect Forey and fight off the doubles. Reader summoned a castle for the group of them to recover while Black Bolt killed the elderly Ahura.

(Uncanny Inhumans#4) - Reader went back in time with Triton and Black Bolt to 13,000 years ago in Attilan, where Kang had taken Ahura to be raised by King Randac. When Kang discovered Reader and the others there, he took them back, then, when powered up again, returned the full team (with Beast and Human Torch) to slightly earlier. They found young Ahura in Attilan. Kang attacked with an army, but Ahura possessed the villain and convinced him to go away. They all soon returned to the present.

(Gwenpool Special#1) - Reader was among the heroes to attend Hellcat's holiday party.

(Uncanny Inhumans#5) - Reader and Forey went to the Quiet Room, where they interacted with Treste, Flagman, and Ahura. Reader later stood with Black Bolt and Medusa as conflicts broke out in the club.

(Uncanny Inhumans#6) - In the chaos at the Quiet Room, Marishi Spin of Ennilux accused Reader of being the one responsible for the death of the Capo. Medusa checked in with Reader on the process of the investigation into the theft of the Antigen, and she summoned Frank McGee and Inferno to assist him. Treste flirted with Reader to learn more about his powers, but McGee informed him that Treste was only 16 years old, scolding him, as Black Bolt battled Ajaxis and Toz nearby.

(Uncanny Inhumans#7) - McGee took Reader (with Forey), Treste, Marishi Spin, and Inferno to the room where the Antigen was stolen, and he used his powers to find a clue: a scrap of fox fur. Reader did a "nose read", and Forey tracked the fur to the Capo, revealed to be alive and possessing humans. Reader tried to put Treste to sleep to protect her, but Capo hit Reader, McGee, and Inferno with the Antigen, blocking their powers. McGee shot Capo, then Treste pushed Reader out of the way of Capo's claws, getting wounded in the process. Capo possessed a pizza man until McGee threatened his life, then Capo abandoned the man, possessed Forey, and rushed away. McGee secured the Antigen and returned to the Quiet Room, where he gave the device to Black Bolt. Reader was furious and began planning to use a "death read" on Capo.

(Civil War II#1) - Reader (with Forey) joined Medusa, Triton, Crystal, Beast, Iso, Human Torch, Flint, Grid, and Inferno in seeking out the new Inhuman Ulysses, who could read the future. Weeks later, the group of Inhumans joined the Avengers, the Ultimates, the X-Men, the New Avengers, the Avengers Unity Division, A-Force, Shaman, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Son of Satan, and S.H.I.E.L.D. in responding to the threat of the Celestial Destructor and its servitors, and the threat was soon averted magically. The heroes gathered to celebrate.

(Civil War II#2) - Medusa led Reader, Flint, Karnak, Iso, Grid, Triton, Beast, and Crystal to the Triskelion, where they demanded the A.I. Friday reveal Stark to them. S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers, and the Ultimates arrived to stop them, asking for a chance to de-escalate the conflict with Stark without violence. They soon found Iron Man, who had freed Ulysses, and Ulysses foresaw an image of the Hulk burning the city and killing heroes, but this time the images projected into the brains of those around him.

(Uncanny Inhumans#10) - Reader went looking for Forey and discovered Treste following him. Knowing Forey was suffering, and that Capo's powers were killing him, Reader planned to free his dog however necessary. Treste let him see through her eyes, and Reader soon found Forey, but Capo's agents, including Old Hattie, cut off Reader's braille tabs, shot him in the side, then hit him in the head, knocking him out. Reader awakened, having been left to bleed to death, and he arranged pebbles in Braille form under his fingertips, then he used his powers to go back in time and read the "death" card, killing Old Hattie and the other agents. He then realized that Capo was going after Iso. Back in New Attilan, Reader found that Capo was launching at Iso, and Reader used a "write read" to alter reality, destroying Capo and turning him into Braille on glass. He then shattered the glass. Reunited with Forey, Reader promised to do Treste a favor one day.

(Uncanny Inhumans#13) - Iso and Reader (with Forey) saw Black Bolt and Karnak wait in the throne room, anticipating an attack from Iron Man. They checked in with the soldiers waiting, including Inferno, Grid, Flint, Naja, and Ms. Marvel.

(Uncanny Inhumans#14) - Iron Man's drones took over New Attilan and captured Black Bolt. Iso gathered Reader, Flint, Grid, Naja, Inferno, and others as Karnak challenged her to take control of defending New Attilan.

(Uncanny Inhumans#15) - While Forey slept at his feet in the Quiet Room, Reader flirted with Anne, inviting her to go see Lady Shine perform, but Flagman interrupted, asking Reader to intervene in a conflict between some Shi'ar, offering to settle Reader's tab if he did so. Reader convinced the Shi'ar to stand down, then returned to the bar to find Irelle and Treste there. They showed Reader a Braille book of interviews they had done about Auran, and asked him to read the book to restore her to life. Reader explained the dangers of doing a "read", but they guilted him into doing this for them. As Frank McGee rushed in the room, a construct of Auran manifested, soon screaming from the pain of noise in her hyper-sensitive ears.

(Uncanny Inhumans#16) - McGee led the twins away, furious with Reader for using his powers irresponsibly.

(Civil War II#8) - Reader was present when the superhuman battle concluded and Ulysses seemingly ascended to godhood.

(IVX#3) - When New Attilan was taken over by the X-Men, Iso and Inferno had Ms. Marvel gather Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Reader and Forey, Synapse, Quake, Grid, and Mosaic to help take back the city.

(Extraordinary X-Men#19) - In Iceland, Reader was among the Inhumans battling the X-Men, and he had a sword fight with Psylocke until Magik knocked him out.

(IVX#4) - Reader opened a gateway to Muir Island and sent Mosaic through on a mission. Iso kept Forge unconscious, and they soon saw Mosaic return from a mission, having possessed teen Cyclops and stolen the X-Men's ship, with intel about the dispersal of the Terrigen Cloud.

(IVX#5) - Iso, Inferno, Grid, Ms. Marvel, Quake, Moon Girl, and Mosaic, with teen Cyclops and Forge, examined the plans for the Terrigen Eater, and Moon Girl improved on the design. Iso made plans to ask for help from Ennilux to make the modified machine, feeling she had no choice. Iso sent Reader and Synapse to help free Karnak and Lockjaw from the World. They teleported with Lockjaw to Limbo to pick up Frank McGee, Naja, Crystal, Medusa, Black Bolt, and Flint, then took them to the Phillipines. McGee tried reaching out to other Inhumans and got no response.

(IVX#6) - Lockjaw teleported Medusa, Naja, Reader (with Forey), Karnak, Black Bolt, Flint, Frank McGee, and Synapse to Iceland, where they joined with Ms. Marvel, Crystal, Grid, Inferno, Quake, and Mosaic in facing off with the X-Men. Emma seized mental control over some of the Inhumans, forcing them to fight their allies. Naja knocked out Storm, not realizing that Mosaic was possessing her. As the Inhumans began realizing Emma Frost had been manipulating events, Iso, Moon Girl (with Devil Dinosaur), and Forge arrived from Ennilux with a device that would destroy the Terrigen Cloud, as they realized that not doing so would result in the death of all mutants on Earth. Medusa destroyed the Cloud, and Emma Frost was exposed as being behind events. She launched a group of Inhuman-hunting Sentinels and they opened fire on the Ennilux ships, killing many. Medusa was ready to defeat Frost, but Havok turned on her and teleported away with Frost. Medusa delivered the news of the Terrigen destruction to her people, then she abdicated the throne, giving it over to Iso. Iso planned to hold elections.

(Inhumans Prime#1) - Reader joined many Inhumans in taking down the Unspoken and Maximus the Mad.

(Uncanny Inhumans#20/2) - Reader joined other Inhumans in celebrating Medusa at the Quiet Room.

(Secret Warriors II#11) - A large group of Inhumans, including Reader, teleported to the Tower of Wisdom to battle Mr. Sinister and the Unhumans. After the battle, Iso had the Tower of Wisdom and Mr. Sinister's Terrigen research destroyed, determining a new future for the Inhumans.

(Inhumans: Judgment Day#1 (fb) - BTS) - McGee grabbed Reader, with Forey, and led him through Eldrac to Medusa, Crystal, and Marvel Boy.

(Inhumans: Judgment Day#1) - Medusa discussed the threat of the Progenitors, as Maximus, Captain Swain, and Panacea entered the room. Maximus stated that they needed to confront the Progenitors on the astral plane, and he presented a Braille card with the word "Floob", explaining to Reader that this word now meant transporting them all to the Astral Plane. Reader stated he needed sleep first, but the Progenitors attacked just then. On his third "read", Reader was only able to send Medusa to the Astral Plane initially. In time, Medusa returned from the Astral Plane, having defeated the Progenitors and regained her powers.

(Daredevil I#606 (fb) - BTS) - After finding out that Mayor Wilson Fisk had rigged his election, Frank McGee recruited Reader and Forey, as well as Cypher, to join he and Daredevil in an investigation.

(Daredevil I#606) - Reader met with the heroes at an abandoned library and he and Daredevil traded notes about their powers and skills.

(Daredevil I#607 (fb) - BTS) - Reader got a stack of Braille documents from Matt Murdock, and he fell asleep while reading them. The next morning, his fingers passed over a section about Mike Murdock, an identity created by Matt once when he pretended to be his own twin brother. Reader didn't realize that this "read" had created a construct.

(Daredevil I#607) - Frank McGee and Daredevil brought Mike Murdock back to Reader, who prepared to erase his mistake, but Mike drew a gun and took the dog Forey captive to cover his escape. He fled, and left Forey outside.

(Daredevil I#608) - Matt Murdock lured Mike Murdock into Central Park, where he had McGee and Reader (with Forey) waiting for the signal to "unread" Mike. When Matt didn't give the signal, Reader entered the park, determined to do away with Mike, but Matt stopped him, using his cane, letting Mike get away.
