History:
(Daredevil I#173 (fb) - BTS) - A student at Harvard, Becky Blake was working hard toward her law degree when one evening she was attacked by Michael Reese, the Ladykiller, wearing a leather mask; he hit her and called her a bad girl. Becky fought back, scratching his face and knocking his mask free, and his face was burned into her memory. He badly beat her until she fell unconscious. Later, in the hospital, she realized she was paralyzed as a result of the attack. Frightened and struggling with trauma, she never reported the crime, but she couldn't forget the man's face.

(Daredevil I#155 (fb) - BTS) - Becky Blake, in her wheelchair, graduated college and completed two years of law school.

(Daredevil I#155) - Seeing an ad for a legal aide at the Storefront, Becky Blake went in to apply. She passed through a long line of women, including Miss Williams, Miss Barney, and one complaining about Harry. When Matt Murdock initially rejected Becky Blake, she assumed it was because of her handicap and she prepared to leave furiously, but he quickly apologized and told her he was blind and hadn't known she was in a wheelchair. After checking her qualifications, Matt hired Becky, though his partner Foggy Nelson was slightly reluctant at first. When Foggy tried helping Becky with her chair, she fiercely told him that she was completely independent.

(Daredevil I#157) - Becky was hard at work at the Storefront with Matt, Foggy, and Foggy's fiancée Debbie Harris. When Foggy asked if Becky and Matt might like to join him and Debbie for dinner, Becky got her hopes up, but she realized Matt wasn't interested when both Black Widow and Heather Glenn showed up for dates with him. Just then, the Ani-Men (Ape-Man, Bird-Man, Cat-Man) attacked the Storefront, harming Black Widow and Foggy.

(Daredevil I#158) - Before Matt surrendered himself to keep the others safe, Becky tossed a paperweight at the Ani-Men, striking Bird-Man in the head. Later, when Matt returned, and after Foggy got medical help and the Black Widow departed, Becky sat in the hallway silently vowing to Matt that she would always be there.

(Captain America I#234) - Foggy, Matt, and Becky saw news footage of Captain America endorsing the National Force, a group with Nazi ties, and they were horrified. Foggy and Becky went off to dinner, but Matt made an excuse to stay behind, telling Becky to not let Foggy go off his diet.

(Daredevil I#160) - Becky went with Foggy and Debbie to support Matt in taking Heather to her father Maxwell Glenn's grave. In the rain, Becky saw Matt and Heather get into an argument.

(Daredevil I#165) - Becky worked at the Storefront with Matt, who was grumpy and bitter all morning. When Foggy showed up to show off his wedding tux, Matt was angry with him also, causing Becky to worry.

(Daredevil I#167) - At the Storefront, Becky wondered why Matt was so distracted and encouraged him to open up to her.

(Daredevil I#169) - At the Storefront, Becky attended a holiday party with Foggy and Heather. Foggy wondered where Matt was, and if he was leading some sort of secret life. Heather joked that Matt was secretly a lion tamer, then left for another party.

(Daredevil I#171) - At the Storefront, Becky took calls from Blake Tower and Maxine Lavendar before calling out to Foggy for help, but he was distant and despondent, and Matt wasn't in. A line waited at her desk.

(Daredevil I#173) - At the Storefront, Matt agreed to represent Melvin Potter, the Gladiator, but Gladiator was arrested for some assaults he didn't commit. Betsy went to the police station with Matt to meet with Gladiator, but his face reminded her of Michael Reese, and she started shaking uncontrollably and then fainted. Matt asked her what had happened, and Becky tried changing the subject to Foggy, but she soon came clean, telling Matt what had happened. When Matt berated her for not reporting the crime, stating she was responsible for the other crimes he had committed, Becky sobbed and ordered him to get out. Later, Matt came over in bandages, and he told Becky that the man who had attacked her was Michael Reese, known as Ladykiller. He said he understood why she had never spoken up about his attack on her, but encouraged her to do it this time as she was the only one to have seen his face. In tears, Becky called the police to make her report.

(Marvel Two-in-One I#78) - Foggy and Becky stood by while Matt consulted with the Thing on a case.

(Daredevil I#175) - In court, Becky saw Foggy worry when Matt didn't show up. Foggy stalled for a time as Becky encouraged him, then Foggy soon had the entire case dropped, using an unexpected legal defense.

(Daredevil I#177) - Foggy took Becky into the Storefront, which had been destroyed by a bomb. She took a call for him from J. Jonah Jameson, handing the phone over to Foggy. At the Daily Bugle, Jameson and Robbie Robertson met with Foggy and Becky, needing to hire their firm to represent them in a lawsuit that mayoral candidate William Randolph Cherryh had filed against the Daily Bugle. Nelson agreed, so long as Jameson would put up the funds to open another office.

(Daredevil I#178) - Becky Blake apologized when men stormed in to the new office, interrupting a meeting that Foggy was having with J. Jonah Jameson, Matt Murdock, and young Sheldon. Sheldon soon fled with the men after him.

(Daredevil I#180) - Becky talked strategy with Foggy after they lost a case, and they both wondered where Matt was.

(Daredevil I#182) - After the death of his old girlfriend Elektra, Matt grew obsessed, thinking she might still be alive, and he demanded that Becky read all the details from the death records to him. Becky kept reminding him that a big money custody case, with client Mrs. Van Der Lear, was coming in with Foggy. Heather Glenn cheerfully entered, but Matt rebuffed her without explanation and she left in angry hysterics. Mrs. Van Der Lear witnessed this, and she left, taking her business with her.

(Daredevil I#184) - Foggy and Becky prepared to go out to eat and invited Matt, but he stayed behind to work; they were shocked when he seemed to sense the phone would ring.

(Daredevil I#186 (fb) - BTS) - Matt put Becky hard at work copying documents in a criminal injunction against Glenn Industries.

(Daredevil I#186) - When Foggy learned what Becky was busy with, he was furious with Matt.

(Daredevil I#188) - Matt didn't show up for work one day, leaving Foggy and Becky to cover for him. Foggy assured Maxine Lavender that Matt would be there in the morning, but he confessed to Becky that he was getting suspicious of Matt.

(Daredevil I#192) - At the office, Becky and Foggy teased Matt for actually showing up to work, but were confused when he seemed to be studying real estate laws.

(Daredevil I#195) - Becky was filing as Matt and Foggy discussed a case. Heather Glenn dropped in, and Becky wondered if she and Matt might be reconciling. Matt ordered Becky to look up all intel on Tarkington Brown.

(Daredevil I#202) - Becky found Foggy had altered his own last name on the door sign to be much larger than Matt's, and she furiously confronted Foggy, suspecting Debbie was behind it. Foggy defended himself, saying he was doing most of the work lately. Matt arrived, followed by their new client Horatio Piper and his assets Chief Micah Synn and his two wives, M'Tha and Sra. Piper explained they'd been discovered after hundreds of years of isolation in East Africa. As legalities were discussed, Becky noticed the wives laughing at her and Matt over their handicaps.

(Daredevil I#203) - Becky saw Foggy grow concerned over the way Matt was handling a case. Foggy ordered Becky to change his appointment with Mrs. Kramer around.

(Daredevil I#204) - At the office, Becky heard Foggy's wife Debbie plan to invite Chief Micah to a society party. Matt arrived, worried about Micah, and asked Becky to get him Horatio Piper on the phone. Investigating Micah's family connections, Becky realized his only living relative, Barrington Synn, was currently in New York.

(Daredevil I#205) - Becky and Foggy were hard at work in the office when Matt arrived. Matt called her in the office and asked her to look over a series of photographs of flowers for him.

(Daredevil I#206 (fb) - BTS) - With her mom sick in the hospital, Becky saved up and purchased her a fur coat for Christmas that she'd always wanted. When she arrived home with the fur, a mugger stole it from her hands then knocked Becky over with a shove.

(Daredevil I#206) - In tears, Becky crawled across the apartment to the phone and called Matt for help. Soon, Daredevil stopped the mugger, returning the coat to Becky. Later, Becky dressed up for Matt's Christmas party, and she attended alongside Foggy, Debbie, and Glorianna O'Breen. When Micah and his Kinjorge Tribesmen burst in, they accosted the guests, punching Matt and Foggy and grabbing the women. Some of the men kept spinning Becky around in her chair, calling her a cripple, as she cried for them to stop. Matt was knocked into the Christmas tree and the room went black, then Daredevil arrived and defeated the Kinjorge.

(Marvel Team-Up I#141 (fb) - BTS) - Matt didn't check in, too focused on clearing the name of accused murderer Juan Santiago. Mr. Wagner called and cancelled his business.

(Marvel Team-Up I#141) - Becky reported in to Foggy when Spider-Man showed up in the window, seeking Murdock, but he rushed off when Murdock wasn't there.

(Daredevil I#210 (fb) - BTS) - Becky heard the news that Crossbow had been broken out of prison, and that Synn had stated publicly that Daredevil should be locked up.

(Daredevil I#210) - When Matt came into the office, Becky told him about the news.

(Daredevil I#211) - Becky screamed as the Kinjorge kidnapped her, dragging her from her chair and into a waiting car. They took her to the home of Micah Synn and laid her on the ground in front of a massive idol, explaining that she was to be sacrificed to the god, Mow. Soon, another woman was kidnapped, an actress named Heidi DeVoto who was dressed as Vanessa Fisk. As the Kinjorge chanted, the Vikah prepared to crush them both with a spiked platform, but Daredevil burst through the window and shut off the lights. As he battled the Kinjorge, the actress fled, and Daredevil said he would save Becky, but he was unable to pick her up due to his wounds. The actress rushed back in and dragged Becky to the elevator, but then she was killed with a spear while the doors closed. Becky descended to safety as Daredevil concluded the fight. The elevator opened and Becky asked the police for help.

(Daredevil I#212 (fb) - BTS) - Becky went to the authorities with her story, then she immediately called a press conference, determined to expose Micah as a murderer.

(Daredevil I#212) - At the press conference, Becky boldly confessed that Micah had kidnapped her, tried to kill her, and had murdered another woman. Matt came to Becky's side as Foggy called her a liar. Pressured by Debbie, Foggy stated that Matt and Becky were plotting against Micah because of money issues. Humiliated, Becky hid in her apartment and refused to come out.

(Daredevil I#213) - When Matt showed up at the office, Becky told him that Debbie Harris had left Micah's side and was turning evidence against him, so now the restraining order against Daredevil was being lifted, according to Maxine Lavendar. She also told him that Foggy was planning to confront Micah.

(Daredevil I#214 (fb) - BTS) - Blake provided an interview to Jimmy Philo about the truth about Micah. Foggy revealed that he'd lied about Becky previously. Later, Micah was arrested.

(Daredevil I#216) - Becky and Foggy discussed news about the Gael escaping from jail after killing four, and Foggy lamented about business being low because of his lies. Becky comforted him, saying it wasn't all his fault, Debbie had influenced him into lying. Becky told Foggy that Matt was off having lunch with Glorianna O'Breen.

(Daredevil I#217) - Foggy confided in Becky about his wife, then invited her to dinner, but Becky already had plans with her mother. Later, Becky took a call for Matt from Glori, then she and Foggy listened to news about the Cossack attacking the city. Matt snuck back out.

(Marvel Fanfare I#27) - Becky jokingly asked Foggy if she should let his clients play with his car-models while Matt and Foggy were out buying a car.

Later that week Foggy was going to pick up his car and Becky pointed out how he and Debbie would then take it on vacation. Before he left Matt asked him to put away his car models before he left and Becky was amused that he singing "My Little Deuce Coupe" under his breath while putting away the models.

(Daredevil I#220 (fb) - BTS) - Heather called Becky for Matt multiple times. Foggy rushed to check on Heather.

(Daredevil I#220) - Becky informed Matt about the calls, and Matt and Foggy soon discovered that Heather had committed suicide.

(Daredevil I#222) - Becky welcomed Matt back from a trip to Italy, saw that Foggy shaved his moustache, then delivered the news that the plane Glorianna O'Breen was on had crashed in New Jersey.

(Daredevil I#223) - Becky was shocked when the Beyonder materialized in the office, offering Foggy a million dollars to build a case that the Beyonder should legally be allowed to rule Earth as a godly being. A few days later, Foggy realized the case was too much, and he confided in Becky about it.

(Daredevil I#226) - Becky and Foggy were packing up the office when Glori dropped by for a visit. Becky took a call and learned that Gladiator was on a crime spree.

(Daredevil II#83 (fb) - BTS) - Becky went back to law school, at night, to finish getting her degree. She eventually passed the bar.

(Daredevil II#95 (fb) - BTS) - During her time in night school, Becky became acquainted with Gus.

(Daredevil II#8) - Becky attended the funeral of Karen Page, who was killed by Bullseye.

(Daredevil II#83 (fb) - BTS) - When Matt Murdock was arrested as Daredevil on multiple counts, Becky Blake returned to aid Foggy Nelson at his firm. They hired Dakota North to be their private investigator. Becky found Foggy were sleeping at the office multiple times.

(Daredevil II#82) - After Becky found Foggy sleeping at the office again, Dakota came in.

(Daredevil II#83) - When Foggy was reported murdered, Becky attended the funeral, seeing Matt there in handcuffs. Becky represented Matt at his next hearing, stating that a blind man in jail was unjust and that no one had proven that Matt was Daredevil, but the judge refused to grant Matt any special treatment in Ryker's Island.

(Daredevil II#85 - BTS) - Matt called Becky and asked her to check the prison visitor logs for the day Foggy was killed.

(Daredevil II#86 (fb) - BTS) - Becky worked with Ben Urich and Dakota North in tracking leads on who had stabbed Foggy, and they found connections to a lawyer named Alton Lennox. Milla Donovan went to Becky, demanding to get in and see Matt.

(Daredevil II#86) - Becky took Milla to the prison, where Matt was furious. Becky gave him a quick update on Lennox, then he demanded she leave.

(Daredevil II#87) - Becky and Milla watched news footage of a riot at Ryker's Island that day and Matt being held hostage by the Punisher, both of them leaving the jail by helicopter.

(Daredevil II#93 (fb) - BTS) - Matt was seemingly taken from Ryker's by the Punisher and spent weeks missing. When he returned, he claimed he'd been held by the Punisher against his will during that time. In the meantime, the director of the FBI committed suicide, and another agent admitted he'd planted evidence against Murdock. Becky took on Matt's complicated case when he returned.

(Daredevil II#93) - Becky took questions from reporters, including Ben Urich, with Matt Murdock and Dakota North at her sides. Becky was with Matt and Milla when Foggy shockingly showed up, revealing he was alive and had been placed in Witness Protection. Over the following weeks, Becky and Foggy helped Matt's criminal charges get dropped, and helped him get his license reinstated. Later, Foggy and Matt took Becky out to her favorite restaurant, then invited her to join their office, which they would rebrand as Nelson, Blake, and Murdock; Becky immediately agreed.

(Daredevil II#95) - Gus found Becky at the courthouse and asked her for help with the case of Melvin Potter, the Gladiator. Back at the law office, with Matt and Foggy, Becky pulled her weight as partner to convince Matt and Foggy to take the case with her. They went to Bellevue Hospital, where Potter claimed he was innocent of the murder of guards Rahner and Peyer, and Matt said he believed him.

(Daredevil II#96 (fb) - BTS) - Becky got word that Potter had committed two more murders, but he said he didn't remember doing it, and she believed him.

(Daredevil II#96) - Becky and Matt met with Palmer, from the D.A.'s office and pushed for Potter to get a psychiatric evaluation at Bellevue before he was sent back to Ryker's. Becky apologized to Matt for dragging the firm into all this. The next day, at Bellevue, Becky, Gus, and Matt watched as Dr. Devereaux completed the evaluation, and the doctor believed Potter was lying. Potter was scheduled to return to Ryker's in solitary confinement, making Becky angry, as she felt Potter needed a hospital instead. Later, Gladiator was broken out of custody.

(Daredevil II#97 - BTS) - Becky heard that Gladiator had gone on a killing spree, and that Gus had committed suicide, and she felt partially responsible.

(Daredevil II#99) - After Gladiator was apprehended, Becky, Foggy, and Matt visited him, seeing how he'd been driven insane by someone. Becky felt responsible as she'd demanded they pursue the case. Dakota told Becky she found a link between Gus, an old law school professor named Larry Cranston, and Vanessa Fisk.

(Daredevil II#101 (fb) - BTS) - Becky heard how Milla Donovan had seemingly gone mad and pushed someone in front of a subway, then was arrested.

(Daredevil II#101) - Becky was at the office with Dakota when Matt and Foggy returned.

(Daredevil II#106 - BTS) - After Milla Donovan was committed, Matt didn't come in to the office for weeks, and Becky missed him.

(Daredevil II#107) - Dakota brought a case to Foggy and Becky, that of Big Ben Donovan who was on death row after confessing to killing three kids brutally; since Luke Cage was asking, they agreed to investigate.

(Daredevil II#109) - Becky, Matt, Foggy, and Dakota discussed the complicated Donovan case, discussing strategies. Dakota's father Sam North, a CIA agent, was involved, as was the FBI, seemingly, and they realized that Donovan was likely innocent but protecting something, so Becky and Dakota agreed to look into his financials. After ordering them dinner, Becky warned Dakota about getting involved with Matt, saying he was poison, then she discovered a financial link on Donovan that led to his son, Ben Donovan Jr. When Dakota investigated, she was shot.

(Daredevil II#110) - Becky and Foggy rushed to the hospital, where Dakota was stabilized, and they called Matt. When Matt complained it was his fault that she was shot, Becky lost her patience and told him not everything was about him.

(Daredevil II#114 (fb) - BTS) - When Matt learned Milla had been checked out of her mental hospital, he had Foggy and Becky investigate, and they learned that Milla's parents had taken custody with a judge's approval.

(Daredevil II#114) - After Foggy and Matt met with Milla's parents, they returned to the office and told Becky the parents had produced evidence that Matt and Dakota had been sexually active. Becky was stunned.

(Daredevil I#501 (fb) - BTS) - Becky learned that Matt as Daredevil had left the firm to go and run the Hand full-time.

(Daredevil I#501) - Getting news that Judge Walden had been murdered by a ninja, Foggy wondered if Matt was involved, and Becky rose to Matt's defense. Dakota arrived with donuts and they discussed the chaos on the streets right now.

(Daredevil I#502 (fb) - BTS) - Foggy and Becky represented men accused of Judge Walden's murder in a trial.

(Daredevil I#502) - The jury found in favor of Foggy and Becky's clients, but Judge Kramer overruled the finding and found them guilty anyway. Outraged, Foggy screamed at the judge about justice and accused him of corruption. As Foggy was arrested, Becky apologized to the judge.

(Daredevil I#503) - With Foggy facing disbarment, Becky was left to handle all the firm's cases herself, but she promised she would manage. Dakota came in and Becky told her they probably had to let her go, then Dakota learned her p.i. license was being revoked, and they realized some enemy must be behind all this.

(Daredevil I#508) - Foggy and Becky saw Dakota bring in footage of Daredevil killing Bullseye publicly.

(Daredevil I#510 - BTS) - Foggy and Dakota went to pick up Becky to get her out of the city during the Hand madness, but rioters stopped their car.

(Daredevil I#511) - In her apartment during the riots, Becky tried calling 911, but the circuits were overloaded. When a building fire started, she found the elevators were broken and realized she had to face the stairs. She got to the main floor by herself, then Dakota rushed in to help Becky escape the burning building.

(Daredevil I#512) - Foggy, Dakota, and Becky shut down Nelson, Blake, and Murdock. They heard that Judge Kramer had killed himself, likely a target of the Kingpin, but Foggy realized his disbarment could be overturned. Foggy wondered if they could start over, but Becky, remembering how she had almost died, refused to continue, unable to trust Matt again. She went off on her own, bidding Foggy farewell.

(Black Panther: The Man Without Fear#522 - (fb) - BTS) - Becky got word that Foggy had been arrested for falsifying immigration papers for the Black Panther. She braved the riots in the street to make it down to the station.

(Black Panther: The Man Without Fear#522) - Becky got both Foggy and the Black Panther out of prison.

Comments: Created by Roger McKenzie (writer), Frank Robbins (penciler) and Frank Springer (inker).

It is crucial to see more characters with disabilities who take care of themselves and have good fulfilling lives, where the stories are about the people themselves and not their disabilities. Becky Blake is an excellent example of this in most of her appearances.

Becky Blake's story has a shocking amount of violence in it, some of it gratuitous and almost haphazard. There are many examples in comic books and other mediums where the female character constantly pines for the hero and needs to be rescued by him over and over again, and Becky's earlier appearances fall into this category.

Becky showed up as a background player during Brubaker's run, but she was a powerhouse, holding things together at the firm in a way that Foggy usually does. I love the moment in #512 where everyone is ready to forgive Matt for being a ninja lord, and she quietly wheels away, not wanting violence as part of her life any longer.
