History:

(Daredevil Annual I#7/3 (fb)) - Emily Blake was a shy high school student who met Ben Urich in their single year of high school. He fell in love with her and she eventually confessed that her father was abusing her and that if she wasn't so pretty he might leave her alone. Ben didn't help her, so she slashed her face to take away her looks. She was taken away and they lost touch.

(Daredevil Annual I#7/3 (fb) - BTS) - Emily spent years in the mental institution, placed under the treatment of Dr. Andrews. She was eventually taken out by Kingpin, who wanted to manipulate Ben (who had become a reporter).

(Daredevil Annual I#7/3) - While viewing Citizen Kane in the Metro Retro theater, Ben thought he saw Emily walk out, but didn't catch her in time. She called him that night asking why he didn't save her, then she hung up quickly. Emily returned to the movie that night again and followed Emily to a nearby roof. She asked for his help and he rushed to embrace her, kissing her on the lips. Kingpin and his men came out laughing and the Kingpin pulled a false scar off Emily's face, claiming it had only been makeup and that the girl wasn't really Emily. Emily stood demurely as Ben left, then Kingpin took off another layer of fake skin, revealing her true scar. He ordered his men, Burton and McKenzie, to return Emily to the asylum, where she could be used against Ben another time.
