History:
(Daredevil I#147 (fb) - BTS) - Maxwell Glenn was a thriving businessman in New York City, running his company Glenn Industries. He raised his daughter, Heather, and was a dutiful and loving father.

(Daredevil I#132 (fb) - BTS) - Heather remembered Maxwell marching for civil rights when she was young.

(Daredevil I#141 (fb) - BTS) - Heather was hospitalized for seven months, and during that time, Maxwell stayed at her side, calling in every specialist he knew to make sure she was okay. In time, she made a full recovery.

(Iron Fist I#11) - Matt and Heather saw Iron Fist swing overhead.

(Daredevil I#176 (fb) - BTS) - Maxwell gave Heather a gun to protect herself.

(Daredevil I#126 (fb) - BTS) - Heather dated a man named Franky, who gave her the spare key to his apartment, but she didn't hear from him for some time.

(Daredevil I#126) - Heather saw the light on in her ex's apartment and she used her spare key to enter, finding Matt Murdock inside. She realized he was blind and found him very handsome. Heather kissed his cheek and said goodbye.

(Daredevil I#127) - Heather returned to the brownstone, watching TV until Matt came home. She claimed that her old boyfriend, Freddy, was married now, and asked Matt to kiss her. She clung to him as he took a phone call, then he pushed her aside, calling her a leech and telling her to leave him alone. As he left for business, Heather promised to be there when he got back.

(Daredevil I#128) - Heather showed up to flirt with Matt more, but he was annoyed with her. Not taking a hint, Heather climbed into the cab with Matt. They arrived at the office of district attorney Foggy Nelson, who was ranting about crime. Matt, realizing he was beginning to like Heather, rushed off to an appointment, leaving her behind.

(Daredevil I#129) - Heather was comforting Matt about his stressful work day when they saw a news reporter (giving fake news) stating that JFK and Robert Kennedy were still alive. Heather wondered what the country was coming to.

(Daredevil I#130 (fb) - BTS) - For several weeks, Heather helped Matt open up a new business, the Storefront, where he could give legal advice to the poor. She conceived the idea of the Storefront in the first place.

(Daredevil I#130) - When Candace Nelson arrived and kissed Matt, Heather was jealous.

(Daredevil I#131) - Heather brought in doughnuts to the Storefront, and heard Foggy interviewing with Eric while Matt interviewed Mrs. Gilhardt, a woman seeking aid against a tenement lord. Later, Heather was distressed when Foggy delivered the news that Maxwell Glenn and Glenn Industries owned the tenement. She began wondering if her father had been lying to her his entire life. They also heard more bizarre (fake) news reports being released.

(Daredevil I#132) - At the Storefront, Heather worried over Matt, who had been gone too long, and her own father's potential lies. She told Foggy that without Matt she might go "dippy" again. Later, Heather waited at Matt's home until he returned, then she convinced him to take her out to dinner. She pestered him about secrets he was keeping but soon apologized and opened up about her father. Matt soon had to rush off without explanation.

(Daredevil I#133 - BTS) - Matt avoided Heather, not wanting to have to explain about rushing off, but he began to realize he was in love with her.

(Daredevil I#134) - Heather and Matt heard the news that Daredevil had killed three policemen, and Heather could hardly believe it. Matt took Heather on a spontaneous carriage ride around Central Park, and as she teased him for being too orderly, he kissed her, realizing how much he loved her. Needing a reason to rush off into battle, Matt pinched Heather's nerve to knock her unconscious, then he rushed her home to rest. Matt carried Heather up the stairs to her apartment to rest as she apologized for fainting; he left her with strict instructions not to exert herself, then rushed off.

(Daredevil I#135) - When Matt got flustered reading more fake news reports, Heather comforted him. Later, at the Storefront, Heather asked Foggy how the investigation against her father was going, and Foggy admitted he was struggling to find evidence. They saw a news report by the Jester, including one that stated Daredevil had escaped from jail.

(Daredevil I#136) - Still baffled by the onslaught of (fake) news reports, Heather found Matt and asked if he had been investigating her father's case, wondering if that explained Matt's long absence; Matt lied and told her yes. Heather contemplated how close she and her father had been since her "accident", and wondered if this case would drive them apart.

(Daredevil I#137) - Heather was frustrated when Matt just stared at the television all day, not paying attention to her. He told her he had his reasons, and maybe he could tell her them someday, then rushed off when another fake news report came on. In time, Jester was exposed as the one behind the media attacks. Heather was present when Matt and Foggy then got news that Matt's old girlfriend Karen Page had been kidnapped in California.

(Daredevil I#138) - At the Storefront, Heather worried about Matt, who had gone to Los Angeles to find Karen, as Foggy got news from the men who had kidnapped his fiancée, Debbie Harris.

(Daredevil Annual I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Heather got word that someone had tried to kill Foggy, but he was okay. She took a call from Matt in Los Angeles and he sounded sad and different as he prepared to come home.

(Daredevil Annual I#4) - Nervous, Heather met Matt at the airport and greeted him with a kiss, then told him about Foggy. After brunch at Bondolphi's, Matt needed to return to work. Heather said he knew how to find her and walked off.

(Daredevil I#141 (fb) - BTS) - Matt got Daredevil involved in finding out who Debbie's kidnapper was (as well as who had tried to kill him), and how Glenn Industries was involved. Heather waited in anticipation.

(Daredevil I#141) - Matt told Heather that Daredevil had exposed Stone (her father's assistant) as the man behind everything, and that Stone had died in the attack. Heather was relieved to have the truth, but immediately wondered if her father was connected to this. Heather took Foggy and Matt to meet Maxwell, who was abjectly shocked and promised to provide the attorneys with access to his financial and personnel records so they could determine if the business was at all behind things. Heather lauded how great her father was. Heather left, leaving Matt and Foggy to look over the paperwork.

(Daredevil I#142) - At the Storefront, Foggy yelled about his recent struggles, then he berated Matt when he arrived. Heather yelled at Matt about them being late for a concert, but then the three friends laughed and made up. When Matt summoned a cab, Heather wondered how he could tell there were cabs there.

(Daredevil I#143 (fb) - BTS) - Foggy spent time going through Maxwell's records, and discovered evidence that Stone had been embezzling from him. Heather believed this exonerated her father from any guilt, but Foggy wasn't sure the records hadn't been doctored.

(Daredevil I#143) - At the Storefront, Heather greeted Matt with the good news, but grew confused and frustrated when Foggy and Matt still seemed suspicious of her father. Maxwell dropped by and assured the others he had no knowledge of Stone's crimes. Heather hoped Matt believed him. She departed, promising to wait by the phone for his call.

(Daredevil I#144) - Heather helped Matt run the busy Storefront, getting him Braille copies of records. Foggy came in drunk just as a gang war broke out in the streets, some of the Owl's gang among them.

(Daredevil I#145) - Matt came to the Storefront, where Heather and Foggy were meeting with client Mr. Santiago. When Ernest P. Rockworth interrupted the meeting, Matt showed him out. That night, Foggy got drunk again, and Heather and Matt kissed.

(Daredevil I#146) - Matt, his head wrapped in bandages after an injury, stumbled into the Storefront, more helpless than usual, but he was reluctant to ask for help. Heather begged Matt not to go out on his own, but he did, even though news reports said Bullseye was on the loose.

(Daredevil I#147) - Heather accompanied Foggy to the police station to meet Debbie Harris, who had just been rescued from her kidnapping by Daredevil. Heather was shocked to see her own father there, turning himself in for his crimes. Sobbing, Heather couldn't believe her father was guilty, and she wished Matt were there. Maxwell couldn't seem to remember having confessed to the crimes.

(Daredevil I#148) - In tears, Heather left a note for Foggy to read to Matt. "Foggy, Please read this to Matt. Dear Matt, I know this will come as a shock to you, but even a scatterbrain like me has feelings—too many I guess, but my life is falling apart, and you don't seem to care. I quit Matt...and good-bye. Forever! Heather"

(Daredevil I#149) - Heather was packing her bags to leave when Matt showed up. She reluctantly let him in and demanded an explanation. Matt said he believed Maxwell was innocent, but that he couldn't defend him in court. Furious and hurt, Heather grabbed her teddy bear and demanded Matt get out.

(Daredevil I#150) - Heather visited Maxwell in jail and tried being silly to cheer him up, but he remained cold and silent. Heather pleaded with him to speak with her, saying she wasn't strong enough without him, but he said he was guilty and wasn't worthy of her. Heather left in tears. As she pulled up to her apartment, she didn't know Matt was inside receiving the news that Maxwell Glenn had committed suicide in jail after she left.

(Daredevil I#151) - Heather walked in on Matt wearing a Daredevil costume, with his mask off, and she was immediately shocked. Realizing that the man she loved was also the man who refused to help her father, Heather collapsed in tears, crying for several minutes. Matt finally told her that Maxwell was innocent and that he'd been trying to prove it, but then he told her of her father's suicide. In shock and pain, Heather told Matt she hated him and ordered him to get out.

(Daredevil I#220 (fb) - BTS) - Maxwell left Heather the company in his will as well as some of his stocks, bonds, and business patents.

(Daredevil I#154 (fb) - BTS) - Purple Man put Heather under his control and kept her by his side.

(Daredevil I#152 - BTS) - With Purple Man controlling her, Heather didn't attend her father's funeral. Later, Heather called Matt, saying she desperately needed help.

(Daredevil I#154) - Purple Man kept Heather at his side and under his control, threatening her life as he made her keep a gun to her own head, then he forced Daredevil to battle Cobra, Mr. Hyde, Jester, and Gladiator in an arena. Paladin joined the fight and helped Daredevil defeat the villains. Purple Man ordered Heather to shoot herself, but Daredevil shot the gun out of her hands just in time. After Purple Man's defeat, Heather collapsed into Daredevil, not wanting to talk, only wanting to be taken home.

(Daredevil I#157) - Matt visited Heather and tried to kiss her, but she pushed him away. She told him that although her head understood he didn't cause Maxwell's death, her heart didn't trust him. She wondered why he kept pretending to be blind, carrying a cane, when she knew the truth about him now. Hearing sirens outside, she told him to go play hero and get out, but he chose to stay and kiss her. Later, she showed up at the Storefront for a date with Matt but found Black Widow there for the same reason; Heather taunted Black Widow. The Ani-Men then attacked the Storefront, where Heather clung to Matt as Becky Blake sat nearby in her wheelchair. The men hurt Black Widow and Foggy.

(Daredevil I#158) - Traumatized, Heather stood by helplessly as the Ani-Men frightened the group. Matt surrendered himself and the villains were departing; when Black Widow considered going after them, Heather hinted that Matt could take care of himself, and that Foggy needed help now. Later Matt returned and Heather checked on him.

(Daredevil I#160) - With Foggy, Debbie, and Becky watching from afar, Matt took Heather to the grave of her father in the rain, wanting to force her to confront the fact that he was dead. Heather was heartbroken, and asked Matt if he could promise her that he'd never prioritize being Daredevil over her again. When he couldn't promise that, she slapped him and stormed off in the rain.

(Daredevil I#163 (fb) - BTS) - Heather broke things off with Matt. Later she met disco dancer Rico and began dating him.

(Daredevil I#163) - At the reelection party for Blake Tower, Heather brought Rico, and she bragged to Matt about how great Rico was, presumably to make him jealous. Matt didn't pay attention and instead rushed off on Daredevil business. Later, Heather saw Daredevil battling Hulk in the streets, and she cried out the name "Matt", not knowing reporter Ben Urich was listening.

(Daredevil I#165 (fB) - BTS) - Heather assumed control of Glenn Industries and became the chairman of the board. She worked hard to turn the company's reputation around, alongside fellow board members, including Mr. Tubbs and J.B. The company hovered on the brink of bankruptcy.

(Daredevil I#165) - At Glenn Industries, Heather walked in on a meeting Mr. Tubbs had called without her knowledge, where he'd announced he had a buyer for their New Jersey electronics plant. Heather demanded to know what they were doing, and Tubbs condescendingly explained that he'd been trying to save her effort since she was so overworked. Daredevil showed up with an accusation of Glenn Industries being involved in stolen property, but Heather was overcome with grief about her father's loss and yelled at Daredevil to get out, then she hugged Tubbs for comfort.

(Daredevil I#165 (fb) - BTS) - Matt recommended that Heather look into the company's holdings to be sure. She planned to go on a date with Rico afterward.

(Daredevil I#165) - Looking into the paperwork, Heather realized the sale of the Jersey plant was a criminal cover. Just then, Dr. Octopus burst in and kidnapped her. Later, at the Jersey plant, Dr. Octopus held Heather prone while he used Adamantium to fashion new octo-arms for himself. Daredevil attacked, and Heather managed to break her bonds with a piece of broken glass, which she then smashed into Dr. Octopus' face, cutting him. Octopus hit Heather, then Daredevil electrocuted the villain, who fled. Heather begged Matt to stay with her, and they kissed, realizing they still had feelings for each other.

(Daredevil I#166) - Heather found Matt working out at home. As Matt charmingly professed his love to her, she reminded him to get in his tux for the wedding of Foggy Nelson and Debbie Harris.

(Daredevil I#167) - Heather took Matt to a fancy party thrown by Edwin Cord, and she was short with Matt when he wanted to leave early. When M.A.U.L.E.R. (Aaron Soames) attacked, Heather helped cover for Matt as he changed to Daredevil, and the villain soon fled. Heather encouraged Matt to convince Cord to answer questions from Lt. Nick Manolis.

(Daredevil I#169) - At the Storefront, Heather attended a party with Foggy and Becky. Foggy wondered where Matt was, and joked he was leading a secret life of some kind, and Heather laughed it off, saying Matt was really a lion tamer. She then excused herself to attend her friend Renee's Christmas party. Later, Heather delivered a statue to Matt's apartment, one of embracing lovers with a love note on it, then she went to sleep in his bed. She was awakened when someone (Elektra) briefly entered the apartment, and she wondered if it was Matt.

(Daredevil I#171) - Heather flirted with Matt on a date after asking him about his recent cases, involving the Kingpin and Vanessa Fisk.

(Daredevil I#174 (fb) - BTS) - Heather heard Matt was in the hospital after being caught in an explosion. She rushed to check on him, hearing from Dr. Gloss that he'd be okay.

(Daredevil I#174) - Matt woke up and Heather worried over him. He stood and fell down, realizing his radar sense was gone.

(Daredevil I#175 (fb) - BTS) - Tired of being stood up by Matt, Heather broke up with him multiple times and kept getting back together again. She left him another break-up note, telling him she was going to a party without him and she didn't want to hear from him again.

(Daredevil I#175) - Heather showed up to greet Matt at the courthouse, where Foggy had just won the big Gladiator case while Matt was off fighting the Hand.

(Daredevil I#176) - Heather told Matt to get out of his costume for the opera, but Matt was grieving because he'd lost his powers. Determined to find his old mentor Stick, Matt leapt off the roof, nearly killing himself, to go looking for him, causing Heather to despair. She worried after him and was tempted to break up, but she decided to help save him instead. Heather went to a seedy bar and offered money to a thug called Snuff to take her to Stick; he tried groping her in the alley out back, but she drew her gun and forced him to take her to Stick. Snuff took Heather to Joseph "Wall-Eyed" Pike, who told her to find Stick at a local bar. Heather went to Duke's to find Stick just as Daredevil arrived there. Daredevil battled goons just before Turk Barrett burst through the wall in a mech-suit. Daredevil easily defeated him.

(Daredevil I#177) - Heather grew bored playing solitaire while waiting on Matt for several days. She called Rico to go to the club with her. She spent much of the week with Rico at parties being flirted with by men like Georgio. When she heard Rico insulting Matt Murdock behind her back, she poured a drink on his head and announced she was going home.

(Power Man and Iron Fist I#77) - Heather attended the ballet with Matt, delighted to be among the high society. During the ballet, Debbie discovered Matt had left his seat, and she thought she might kill him. Suddenly, the ballet stage was overcome by a battle between Daredevil, Power Man, and Iron Fist fighting Boris and Ninotchka.

(Marvel Fanfare I#1) - Heather and Debbie dressed up a reluctant Foggy to be Santa Claus for hospitalized children. Matt remained stoic in the corner.

(Daredevil I#183 (fb) - BTS) - Needing more purpose in her life, Heather began taking business classes and showing more interest in her company.

(Daredevil I#182) - At the Manhattan offices of Glenn Industries, Heather attended a board meeting in which Mr. Spindle tried to get her to sign papers, but she wanted a greater understanding and asked for permission to have Murdock look over them first. Heather went to Matt's office to remind him of their date, but he pushed her away, hurting her hand. Matt kept talking about the corpse of someone named Elektra, but he ignored Heather's questions about Elektra, and she stormed out, upset.

(Daredevil I#183) - Heather confided in Matt about her struggles with the board, and he wondered why she bothered. Heather walked away in frustration, feeling misunderstood, but Matt pulled her back, saying he was realizing how much he loved her. Matt asked Heather to marry him.

(Daredevil I#184) - As Heather complained about Matt's marriage proposal and his expectations that she would be domestic, Spindle forced her to sign several documents, reminding her that she could step down at any time. Heather expressed a question about one referencing Atreus Plastics, but Spindle made an excuse and told her to keep signing. Heather called Matt at the office, asking if she could come in and talk about their relationship, but he put her on hold to take a call, so she simply walked away. She returned to Glenn Industries and learned the Atreus Plastics deal was to manufacture plastic explosives.

(Daredevil I#185) - Heather confided in Foggy about her company, but asked him not to tell Matt. Matt showed up, still putting pressure on Heather to be his wife and give up her business, but Foggy just ushered her away for a private consult. They went to Heather's company and confronted Spindle directly, but Spindle countered that if anything illegal was happening, it was only because Heather signed off on it first, making her complicit. Foggy sent Heather home and said he'd handle things.

(Daredevil I#186 (fb) - BTS) - Heather dyed her hair blonde. Matt began filing injunctions against Glenn Industries, putting the company under criminal investigation. He hoped Heather would leave the company and marry him.

(Daredevil I#186) - Heather confronted the board directly, and Spindle arrogantly stood his ground, insulting both her intelligence and her father. Daredevil appeared in the window, saying the company was going down, though he vowed Heather would not be harmed. Heather had dinner with Foggy and she expressed that she hoped Matt wasn't trying to corner her into a relationship, even though he did have a right to file those criminal charges. Later, Glenn Industries was taken down in criminal allegations. Matt said he had a defense that would show Heather was inexperienced and incompetent; she sadly bowed her head and agreed to marry him.

(Daredevil I#188) - Heather sat in her apartment drinking and muttering about how Matt had cornered her into marrying him.

(Daredevil I#189) - Drunk, Heather showed up at Matt's apartment (in disarray after a fight) and found him with the Black Widow. Matt gave Heather some orders, and she muttered that she loved him when he bossed her around. Later, Heather found a note from Matt saying he didn't want to marry her and never wanted to see her again; she collapsed in tears, not knowing that Black Widow and Foggy Nelson had forged the note, and given a similar one to Matt in Heather's handwriting.

(Daredevil I#195 (fb) ) - Six weeks passed and Heather started drinking a lot. She allowed her hair to go black again.

(Iron Man I#171 (fb) - BTS) - While drinking at a party, Heather met a drunk Tony Stark and they went out on a date. He asked her to have breakfast when he got back.

(Iron Man I#171) - When Tony returned, Heather had ordered breakfast and champagne for Tony, but he didn't remember meeting her at all. They decided against breakfast and just drank the champagne.

(Iron Man I#171/Daredevil I#195) - Later, at a party hosted by Nedda, Tony got drunk while talking to friends, so Heather mingled in the crowd. When Tarkington Brown hit on her, she went off with him, leaving Tony passed out on a chair.

(Daredevil I#195) - Brown, a computer expert for the mayor's office, took Heather for a long walk and Heather opened up to him about her failed engagement, and how Matt had wanted to control her due to his sense of heroism; far too drunk, she confessed that Matt was Daredevil. The next morning, Heather panicked and realized what she had done. She rushed down to the office and confessed to Matt, and Matt was furious, asking her to leave. She muttered how she'd only proven to him that she was brainless as he'd always expected. Heather went to Brown and told him she'd been lying about Murdock being Daredevil, but he didn't believe her. Brown pulled a gun on Heather, saying he was having assassins go and kill Matt right now, and then he would kill her to cover his tracks. Heather asked for coffee, then she threw it in Brown's face before she ran for it; Daredevil stopped Brown from shooting her.

(Daredevil I#220 (fb) - BTS) - Heather went on a series of dates with different men and began drinking regularly.

(Daredevil I#220) - Drunk in her apartment, Heather called Matt in the middle of the night and begged him to come over, telling him he could do so as Daredevil, and saying it was an emergency. Matt rushed there and found her asleep. Heather woke up, poured another drink, and said she'd lied about the emergency, but she tearfully confessed that she was so lonely without him and that she'd been seeing other men. Angry and disgusted, Daredevil left Heather there.

(Daredevil I#220 - BTS) - Heather continued calling Matt at home and the office repeatedly, but he only answered once and hung up on her, even though she warned him that she would die. She left messages with Becky Blake for Matt, and Foggy said he'd go check on her. Heather sent a suicide note to Foggy's old address, then she hanged herself. As she hanged there, Silvio Gulio broke into her apartment and stole patents out of her safe.

(Daredevil I#220) - Foggy and Matt found Heather hanging in her apartment. Foggy later got her note, and it read, "Dear Foggy, Tell Matt I'm sorry. Tell the world I'm sorry. Heather." Foggy told Matt that things weren't his fault, that Heather had just loved him more than Matt had loved her back.

(Daredevil I#221) - Matt visited Heather's grave. After he defeated the criminals that had stolen her patents, he returned to tell her that he'd done so.

(Daredevil I#225) - Matt visited Heather's grave, trying to ease his own guilt, and he ended up battling the Vulture, who was there to rob Heather's grave.

Comments: Created by Marv Wolfman, Bob Brown, and Klaus Janson.

You can definitely tell that all of Heather's stories were written by men. She starts off as a "dippy" girl who prides herself on being a "scatterbrain". She has major daddy issues, is extremely co-dependent on Matt, is taken hostage by multiple male super-villains as a plot device, including Purple Man and Dr. Octopus, and is taken advantage of by corrupt businessmen because she didn't know better. All of her major struggles are in relation to what men expect of her, and when she can't please them, she is lost and aimless. She shows up as clueless, confused, overwhelmed, and incapable in almost every appearance.

And in Daredevil I#134, Matt actually assaults Heather Glenn with a nerve pinch so he can rush off to be a hero, because telling her the truth about his identity might make her not love him. This scene makes my skin crawl. Times have changed, sure, but how was this okay back in the 70s even?

There are some surprising turns in her story arc overall. Heather conceived of the Storefront, and helped run it. She showed promise in taking over her father's business, and wanted more than just marriage to make her happy. She found out Matt's identity as Daredevil, and later drunkenly revealed it to a foe. Heather's final appearance, resulting in her suicide, is a tragic and abrupt ending to a complex character who deserved better. It's hinted throughout many appearances that she struggled with mental health, including depression, co-dependency, histrionics, and alcoholism, and it is at least hinted that she had spent time in a mental hospital.

Heather is occasionally referenced in modern comic books whenever a list of Daredevil's dead girlfriends shows up. Her name is immortalized alongside Elektra, Karen Page, Glorianna O'Breen, and the still alive Milla Donovan and Kirsten McDuffie. (Daredevil really gets around).
