Base of Operations: Mobile throughout the universe and other dimensions with his spaceship

First Appearance: Force Works#15 (September, 1995)

Powers/Abilities: He was a ruthless men who didn't care for anything other than his own wealth. He was merciless and used the wealth he gained through theft, slavery and murder only to gain more. He used Tyrmean brain-stem parasites and nanite servitors to gain obedience of his victims. A control bracelet connected to a link on his spaceship enabled him to kill or punish his slaves any time by ultrasonically exciting the parasites that were placed on their necks into a feeding frenzy. The nanite servitors were controlled with one of his rings and could inflict pain whenever Broker wanted to.

History: (Century: Distant Sons (fb) - BTS) - Broker encountered Century on his mission to track down Lore and enslaved him. He blanked Century's memory of the mission and many other things and only left the urge to find Lore in him. Some time later Broker sold Century to the Scatter.

(Force Works#13 - BTS) - Broker ambushed Captain Kkon's ship and forced Kkon to transmit all his data to Broker's spaceship. After Broker got the data he destroyed Captain Kkon's ship.

(Force Works#14 - BTS) - In Arabellum's star system Broker leeched off fuel for his ship from the gas giant, which died while Broker left the sector with his spaceship.

(Force Works#15 (fb) - BTS) - Broker finally reached Earth and found the place where Century lived. He sent out the Bodyguard Cadre to capture Century, but they couldn't get him. Instead they captured all the other residents of the Works and put them into hyper-stasis capsules.

(Force Works#15) - U.S. Agent called Broker down from his spaceship to make a deal with him. Broker teleported down to Earth and listened to U.S. Agent offering him Century. In return Broker offered him the Works' residents. Broker explained to U.S. Agent how he wasn't paying his men anything and showed him how he had them under control with parasite. U.S. Agent agreed to Broker's offer and Century appeared. Broker touched him, but his hand went through Century and he realized that it was just a hologram (PLATO posing as Century). Broker got angry, but suddenly the real Century appeared behind his back and cut off Broker's hand with the control bracelet with one swing of Parallax. Broker cried and Century had to protect him from his former slaves who wanted to kill him, but Century wanted him alive. Broker was returned to his spaceship and left Earth alongside Century and the Bodyguard Cadre.

(Force Works#16) - Skewer went to Broker's cell and tried to kill him, but Century stopped Skewer and explained him once again that they needed Broker to encrypt them the navigation records to their homeworlds. Broker applauded Century for his help.

(Century: Distant Sons) - Broker was visited by Century in his cell, but he wouldn't give Century the encryption codes for the navigation records and even mocked him. After Century had beaten him up Broker laid laughing on the ground because his plan to regain control over the crew was already in motion because Slug was still under his control through nanite servitors. After Tyrmean brain-stem parasites were once again placed on the Bodyguard Cadre's necks Broker was freed by them and they overpowered Century for him. Broker placed a brain-stem parasite on Century and immediately knocked him out with it when Century tried to attack him. He went to Century's cell to explain to him why Slug helped him and told Century that he already had a buyer for Century. Broker brought Century to Memoriam where he told everyone present about Century's origin, original mission and his involvement with the Scatter and therefore the destruction of Skewer's homeworld. Broker punished Skewer when he tried to attack Century. Imogen arrived and Broker sold Century to her for fifteen billion in adjusted credits on a Shi'ar fiscal trade account. Broker left Memoriam, but he followed Imogen because he was sure that she was after something really valuable and he also wanted Century back to sell him once again. Broker soon found the Azimuth's city in the dimension Imogen went to and attacked it. Broker then teleported into the city with a few men and told the residents to hand over the artefact to him. He ordered Skewer to kill Century, but Skewer attacked Broker instead. Broker wanted to punish him, but he couldn't because Slug had destroyed the link to Broker's control bracelet on the ship. Broker pulled out a gun and shot wildly at his former slaves. He injured Skewer and Skarla and killed Kerth. Then he was attacked by Century, but Broker thought that Century didn't have the guts to kill him. Broker's head fell to the ground decapitated from his body and he was proven wrong and died.

Comments: Created by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, Jim Cheung & Rey Garcia.

I don't know how he got his first slaves and all the technology he used because Broker is a total wuss and who in their right mind would surrender to him without having a deadly parasite on the neck. Perhaps tricky Broker bought the parasites when he was still a small-time trader and enslaved the original owners of his space-ship. It could also be that he worked his way up on his homeworld to get the technology and the parasites. There was not much revealed about his past. Not even his race!

Broker's control bracelet

This was the control bracelet Broker used to ultrasonically excite the Tyrmean brain-stem parasites into a feeding frenzy. It was connected to an apparatus on the spaceship that couldn't be touched because it would kill the one doing it. Broker originally wore it on his left hand, but he changed to his right hand after the left one was cut off by Century.

Broker's spaceship

Broker's mighty spaceship was pure high-tech. It was several hundred feet long, possessed a fotel drive, technology that enabled it to cross between dimensions and weapons en masse. All the "life-blood" of a gas giant was needed to refill the fuel for the spaceship. Not much was revealed about the space-ship or its origins, but it was truly a devastating force on its own that often assured Broker's victory.

Captain Kkon

Captain Kkon was ambushed by Broker and when his ship lost the fotel drive Kkon was forced to give Broker all his data. After this was done Broker destroyed Kkon's ship and Kkon and his crew were killed.

Esh-Uta

At an unknown point in his past Esh-Uta was enslaved by Broker.

(Force Works#13-16 - BTS) - Esh-Uta was on board during Broker's attacks on Captain Kkon, the destruction of Arabellum, the attack on Force Works and the journey to the cadre's several homeworlds afterwards.

(Century: Distant Sons) - Under Century's command period Esh-Uta worked on the bridge. Esh-Uta fell under Broker's control again through a parasite planted on his neck by Slug and joined Broker on Memoriam. Esh-Uta scanned for Broker the area for Imogen's arrival and heard everything Broker had to tell about Century. After the sale Esh-Uta returned with Broker back to the ship and was surprised when Broker ordered him to set a new course to follow Imogen. Esh-Uta followed Century's trace signal and helped Broker find him. After Slug's sacrifice Esh-Uta was free again and was among the slaves that continued the journey to their homeworlds.

Later he brought down the Works' residents from Broker's ship alongside other Bodyguard Cadre members. Freed from Broker's control he planned to kill Broker, but Century convinced him that they still needed Broker. Kerth teleported Century back on board before Broker's spaceship left Earth.

(Force Works#16 - BTS) - Kerth was on board during the journey to the cadre's several homeworlds.

(Century: Distant Sons) - Under Century's command period Kerth worked on the bridge. He watched Kiwi's departure to his homeworld and told Onyx not to explode with joy about his coming return to his homeworld. Kerth fell under Broker's control again through a parasite placed on his neck by Slug and was among the slaves that overpowered Century. He watched as Century was given a parasite as well and later joined Broker on Memoriam where Century was going to be sold. He listened to what Broker had to tell about Century's history and returned after the sale to Broker's spaceship. Kerth was on board when Broker followed Imogen to another dimension and teleported with Broker to Azimuth's city when they arrived there. When he was freed from Broker's control by Slug's sacrifice he tried to kill Broker, but Broker killed him with one shot.

Tyrmean brain-stem parasites

They were used by Broker to place people under his control. After being clinically infected with a brain-stem parasite it connected itself to the nerve system and fed on latent mental energy. The parasites could be ultrasonically excited into a feeding frenzy which was very painful for the host and could ultimately cause the host's death. There was one special way to remove the parasites. (it was never shown to the readers)

(Force Works#13-14 - BTS) - Broker's slaves were held under control with Tyrmean brain-stem parasites.

(Force Works#15) - Tyrmean brain-stem parasites came to Earth on members of the Bodyguard Cadre. Broker showed one parasite to U.S. Agent and explained what they did.

(Force Works#15 - BTS) - The Tyrmean brain-stem parasites were removed from all slaves.

(Century: Distant Sons) - Slug got parasites from the room where they were stored and infected the former slaves again with the parasites and Broker was once again their master. A short time later Century was infected with a parasite by Broker. The controlled slaves continued to work for Broker. In Azimuth's city Century got his parasite removed by Azimuth with one grip although Century was afraid because it normally couldn't be done that way. After Broker's death the parasites were removed again.
