Powers/Abilities: Scorpion has been biologically engineered to be able to survive most all types of chemical, biological, or radioactive attack. Her body creates large quantities of life-preserving chemicals, and her lungs are special and can neutralize toxins, along with a myriad of other special biological
As a side effect, the lymph nodes in
Scorpion's left armpit absorb and store toxins and chemicals. These
toxins can then be released down through her arm, through her hand. This
allows her to attack people, and when she releases these toxins her arm
glows green. As part of her working for SHIELD, they gave her a gauntlet
which allows them to communicate with her and also enhances her powers.
It is unclear whether Scorpion retains this gauntlet.
She has the same electrolyte myogenic organ
as electric eels, allowing her to metabolize stun blasts almost
immediately.
This also gives her green hair somehow.

History:
(Amazing Fantasy II#10 (fb)) - As part of a secret AIM plot to make
a super-generation of people, high ranking AIM scientist Monica
Rappicini gave up her child to be raised in secret in Grand Falls,
Vermont by deep cover AIM agents.
(Amazing Fantasy II#11 (fb)) - Among the things which
happened to Carmilla as a child, she remembered her father refusing to
vote in the 1996 election, and her mother comforting her after she
didn't make"First Squad", memories which she later reflected on as signs
that her parents were AIM agents.
(Amazing Fantasy II#7 (fb)) - At the age of 16, Carmilla
Black was elected Homecoming queen at Grand Falls High School. While she
was dancing with the Homecoming King, her boyfriend Greg, her latent
abilities manifested, causing her to kill him. Since this event was in
full view of the town, she went on the run.
(Amazing Fantasy II#11 (fb) - BTS) - Her abilities
manifesting was due to latent memetic antibodies SHIELD had placed
inside of her attempting to activate, which instead triggered her
stinger.
(Amazing Fantasy II#7 (fb) - BTS) - Carmilla spent 3 years
on the run, laying low and learning how to control her powers.
Eventually, she heard about the death of her adoptive parents in online
newspapers.
(Amazing Fantasy II#7) - Feeling obligated to pay her
adoptive parents back in some way, Carmilla returned to Grand Falls. She
was informed of the nature and mode of her parents' deaths by the cop at
her house. She proceeded to pack their stuff up, arrange for their
funeral, etcetera, before finally going to the bank to access their
safety deposit box. There, she met her old friend Janice, who she was
surprised to find working as a bank teller since Janice had done well in
school. They agreed to meet up together later. Carmilla opened up the
deposit box, to find her birth certificate, which revealed that her
parents had been lying the whole time; they knew about where she came
from. And also her original name was Thasanee Rappacini, which Carmilla
couldn't even pronounce.
Later on, Carmilla and Janice met up by the
river, so Carmilla could complain about this revelation. They talked for
a bit, and once the conversation was turning south, secret AIM agents
who had been following Carmilla for a while came out of the water to
attack. She sent Janice away before fighting the AIM agents with her
powers; eventually, Carmilla ran away into the woods where she was
knocked out and abducted by SHIELD. Awakening in a secret SHIELD
hideout, she threatened them with her having rights and whatnot, before
they revealed that Monica Rappacinni, the woman they believed to be her
mother, was planning an AIM terrorist plot in Madripoor. Following some
verbal back and forth with SHIELD agent Derek Khanata, she agreed to
work for them, and they gave her the codename Scorpion. They also gave
her a gauntlet which she could wear and they could monitor her with. She
went away, and shortly thereafter flew off to Madripoor.
(Amazing Fantasy II#8) - On the flight over, Carmilla had
one of those symbolism dreams about her mother. You know the sort.
Anyways, she woke up, and talked to Troy, the cute boy sitting next to
her on the flight, and they agreed to get together later. She went to
the Orphanage she had been adopted from, and asked to see their records;
as she had lost her papers in the earlier fight, they refused her
access. She then met up with Troy, they did some sightseeing, looked at
some museums, did shopping; it all went quite well for her. At the end
of the day, they returned to Carmilla's hotel. When Troy attempted to
make a move to go back to Carmilla's hotel room, SHIELD activated a loud
beeping noise on her gauntlet, causing her to head up on her own.
Once upstairs, she called with SHIELD about
the event. They told her that she had been secretly given a suit in the
lobby, and that, since the orphanage didn't willingly give her the
information, she would be breaking in to get it. She did so, and was
informed of the functionality of her suit on the way over. Breaking in
and sneaking past the gang members upstairs, she scanned the documents
for SHIELD, finding her own info along with five other certificates. As
she was leaving, she spotted a staircase which resembled one she had
seen in her ominous dream previously; she headed down it, and found a
cage full of child trafficking victims. Although SHIELD told her she
couldn't, she freed them, leading to a fight against the gangsters.
During the fight, she was stabbed by a needle, causing her to black out.
In order to get rid of her, the gangsters then placed her inside the big
Madripoorian funeral pyre. Carmilla woke up just as it burst into flame.
(Amazing Fantasy II#9) - Carmilla burst out of the funeral
pyre, startling the guards. Thinking she was an assassin, they shot at
her. She managed to evade their fire, finding Troy in the crowd, who
helped her escape. She met back up with Troy who thought that, due to
her glowing arm and costume, that she was a superhero. Carmilla did
nothing to dissuade him. They headed back to Carmilla's hotel, where the
desk worker informed them that her mother had come and left a document
for her, namely Thasanee's birth certificate and a note telling Carmilla
to meet Monica in Prague. Carmilla managed to doge Troy's questions
about her mother being alive, even though she had told him that her
parents were dead. They headed to Prague.
Once at the Prague airport, Carmilla was
"selected for a random search" (brought to a secret room by SHIELD
agents). They took her vitals in an effort to find out why she survived
being pumped full of drugs and inhaling a bunch of smoke in the funeral
pyre. Derek also warned her about trusting Troy, as his story about
being a writer didn't add up with his seemingly inexhaustible amount of
cash. Later, in a Prague beer hall, they talked about what Carmilla's
super hero name should be; eventually, Carmilla asked Troy a personal
question and he was very defensive and evasive, refusing to answer─this
drove a rift between them. Later, they went out on the town and
separated, before another set of SHIELD agents tried to accost Carmilla.
She ran away from them, leading to her stealing a skateboard and
managing to lose them in the busy Prague streets, and heading to the
observation tower Monica told her to meet at, where she was abducted by
AIM.
(Amazing Fantasy II#10) - Carmilla had another ominous
symbolism dream, before waking up in a secret AIM transport. It had
taken her to a secret AIM base in Darfur. She was shown around the place
by AIM agent Lars, who told her that this is a place where AIM helped
out the local population with fruit and shelter and creepy drugs that
remove national identity. He also told her that, in order to prove that
she had abandoned SHIELD for AIM, she would have to kill someone. Lars
sent her out with a gun and a new costume. She went to a nearby evil
people camp, which she attempted to empty and destroy without actually
killing anyone. However, she was spotted, and in the ensuing firefight,
a massive bomb blew up, killing several. Carmilla survived, and AIM
granted her a cell phone. She used it to call Troy, who she broke up
with before declaring that she'd be going by Thasanee now and leaving
with Lars for another AIM facility.
On the way over, she watched a video of
Monica declaring AIM's plan, which also revealed that her adoptive
parents Tim and Julia were secret AIM agents.
(Amazing Fantasy II#11) - Carmilla was brought to another
secret AIM facility. Namely, a dingy motel where the other "Wakers"
(secret bioengineered AIM children) were, just outside of Washington DC.
They greeted her, told her about the history of the AIM plan. Carmilla
attempted to fit in for a bit, letting one of them braid her hair,
before it came time for them to take the AIM info-dump drugs. Carmilla
had a fight with the hallucination of her mother, which informed her of
the AIM plot to blow up USAMRIID (secret US government biotech lab) and
the vice president, before recovering and running out of the motel. She
called Troy, who arrived behind her having used his connections to find
her. He also brought her her costume.
Meanwhile, both AIM (who wanted her for running out
on them) and SHIELD (who now considered her a threat) were watching. The
two groups fought, causing Scorpion and Troy to run away. Lars kidnapped
Troy, and so Scorpion suited up and reunited with SHIELD agent Derek
Khanata to save Troy.
(Amazing Fantasy II#12) - Scorpion stole a motorcycle, and rode it into the subway to stop AIM's plot, while also remaining in radio contact with Khanata. The two wakers who were on top of the subway car shot at her, which her suit absorbed, before she did a motorcycle trick on top of the subway car. She knocked one of the wakers off with that trick, before just punching the other one in the face. Jumping down into the train car, she fought another Waker; during the fight, the subway car was disconnected. Carmilla jumped ahead to the next one, where yet another Waker was holding Troy and the Vice President (who were strapped to an AIM bio-bomb) at gunpoint. She knocked that guy out, and freed Troy and the VP, who ran out into the subway system proper. Once the car was empty, Scorpion let the bomb explode, absorbing its contents using her Stinger. Scorpion, tired from absorbing so much, exited the train car, where Lars pointed a gun at her. However, then Monic Rappaccini revealed herself and melted Lars into goop. Monica attempted to bond with Thasanee, before the national guard and Khanata stormed the subway station, causing Monica to teleport out of there. The National Guard pointed their guns at Scorpion, before Khanata flipped the lights to allow her to escape.
(Amazing Fantasy II#12 - BTS) - Scorpion was given a job
by SHIELD, where she would act as an unofficial agent; pretending to be
a super-hero but really acting under SHIELD's orders.
(Amazing Fantasy II#12) - Later, Troy and Scorpion were on
a date in the Mediterranean, which she left in the middle of to break
into an AIM warehouse for SHIELD.

Hulk II#87 - BTS) - Scorpion continued attempting to locate her mother
for SHIELD. Following The Scarlet Witch's rewriting of reality in the
House of M, they found her in Australia, in bed with Bruce Banner, the
Hulk.
(Incredible Hulk II#87) - Scorpion and the other SHIELD
agents watched as the Hulk, along with Monica, jumped across Australia.
Scorpion convinced them to let her go down alone, as one stealthy
operative would be more likely of having to only face Bruce Banner, as
opposed to a whole team, where he'd assuredly Hulk out. Following
Bruce's gamma radiation, Scorpion found him and Monica at an Aboriginal
Camp. Using her stinger to knock out Bruce, she confronted her mother,
until eventually she was attacked by an old man aborigine, who had
befriended the Hulk and did not like Scorpion attacking him. While
Scorpion was down, Monica attacked her with a branch, which Scorpion
blocked. Banner also recovered at this time, Hulking out; however, the
Hulk was still weakened from Scorpion's prior attack. Scorpion was able
to push him away; however, she pushed him into the cooking fire the
Aboriginals had gathered around, and Hulk started a forest fire. During
the fire, Monica managed to escape Scorpion, who hid in a cave so as not
to get burnt to death. In the morning, once the fire abated, Scorpion
exited the cave, and had a talk with Bruce Banner, who said some really
sad things and walked away.
(Captain Universe: X-23 I#1 (fb) - BTS) - In preparation
for a raid on an AIM facility, Scorpion was briefed on the powers and
current location of the cosmic force known as the Uni-Power. She zoned
out and did not pay attention during the briefing.
(Captain Universe: X-23 I#1) - While on stakeout outside a
Secret AIM base holding the Uni-Power, Scorpion (along with fellow
SHIELD agents such as Derek Khanata) watched as X-23 killed some secret
AIM agents, before engaging with cloaked SHIELD agents and being imbued
with the free portion of the Uni-Power. Eventually, once more AIM agents
started attacking, Scorpion jumped down and helped X-23. After they
defeated the AIM and SHIELD agents, Scorpion followed X-23, who was
acting to free the Uni-Power. X-23 and Scorpion teamed up and travelled
on trains to the AIM base where the rest of the Uni-Power was being
held. They broke into the unassuming house it was masquerading as,
before entering the AIM laboratory basement. SHIELD asked Scorpion to
download AIM's data on the Uni-Power, but X-23 stopped her; X-23's
Uni-Power abilities let her overhear Scorpion's private radio
transmissions with SHIELD. Scorpion helped X-23 out of there, while
misleading SHIELD to think that X-23 had escaped.
(Doc Samson II#3 (fb)) - Corruption within the technology
department of SHIELD to sell SHIELD tech on the black market was
uncovered by Scorpion's friend Nagayoshi. In order to stop it, he
pretended to go along with it, and Scorpion was to stop them all.
However, the plan went awry, and Nagayoshi was severely injured, and
Scorpion seemed to have gone rogue.
(Doc Samson II#2) - Scorpion was arrested by SHIELD agents
due to the events listed above, which caused Derek Khanata to call in
psychiatrist Leonard Samson to clear her name.
(Doc Samson II#3) - Scorpion was interrogated by Doctor
Leonard Samson in a SHIELD holding cell. They had some back and forth,
but eventually Samson touched on the issue of Nagayoshi, which caused
Scorpion to have an outburst. Later, Samson returned and informed
Scorpion that Nagayoshi had died in the hospital; Scorpion freaked out
and escaped. She tracked down the corrupt technicians, and was fighting
them when Samson and Khanata arrived. Scorpion explained to them what
had actually happened, and defeated the corrupt agents with Doc Samson's
help. Afterwards, Scorpion and Derek talked about trusting each other,
and Samson revealed Nagayoshi was actually alive. They went to
Nagayoshi's hospital room, where Scorpion was happy to see he was alive.
She was, however, still miffed at Samson for lying to her.
(Spider-Man Family II#3/2 - BTS) - Scorpion foiled some
gunrunners for SHIELD, an event which made the front page of the Daily
Bugle.
(Spider-Man
Family II#3/2) - Scorpion was incensed by the fact she had to foil real
gunrunners; however, once Derek Khanata explained that it was necessary
to improve her "cover-story" as a superhero, she relented. In any event,
SHIELD soon found a posting on an anti-registration message board by
someone going by "namesake" asking to meet with her, so they sent her to
the co-ordinates listed in the post. Once there, Scorpion was confronted
by Venom, who announced that he was formerly Mac Gargan. As Scorpion ran
away from him, they attempted to explain to her that he used to be
called Scorpion; however, as that was also her codename, it led to
confusion. Eventually, SHIELD directed her to a nearby church where she
could use the bells to defeat Venom. However, before she could reach
them, Venom caught her in a web. As Venom threatened her, a side-effect
of Scorpion's anti-toxin abilities allowed her to absorb the webs,
creating a temporary neo-symbiote. This allowed her to get the upper
head temporarily, before Venom ran away in fear.
(Avengers: The Initiative I#1) - Scorpion became one of
the trainee heroes at government facility Camp
Hammond. She joined other trainees watching MVP race through an assault
course, even applauding his efforts.
(Avengers: The Initiative I#3) - Still at Camp Hammond,
Scorpion participated in a training exercise trying to take down the
Thing with several of her classmates.
(Heroes for Hire II#11/1) - Scorpion was present when the
Heroes for Hire attempted to turn over Moon Boy. Scorpion didn't get
along with the group very much, and a fight nearly broke out.
(Heroes for Hire II#11/2) - During the conflict known as
World War Hulk, Scorpion was dispatched to the NYPD's secret stash of
supervillain gear, to get item #21472. On her way there, she stopped
some other looters. Scorpion fought against Paladin, who was seemingly
also attempting to rob the place. He knocked her out, but she recovered
fast and grabbed "Cockroach" Hamilton's gun to fight back.
(Heroes
for Hire II#12/2) - Scorpion used the non-lethal gun to blast Paladin
back; he grabbed Chemistro's Alchemy Gun which could turn things to
gold. Realizing the potentials of such a device, Paladin attempted to
run away, but Scorpion stopped him. A fight using the various items in
the lockup ensued, culminating in Scorpion knocking Paladin over with a
Stilt-Man suit, before Paladin pulled a gun on her.
(Heroes for Hire II#13/2) - Reflecting on her life,
Scorpion ended up neutralizing Paladin, believing that she had killed
him. She then went to get the item she'd been sent to retrieve; a deadly
toxic metal called Thallium. SHIELD had her put it in a special
compartment in her gauntlet, and planned to have her use it against the
Hulk in a future battle. Scorpion walked away, not knowing that Paladin
had been hired by SHIELD to test her and was secretly alive.
(Heroes for Hire II#14) - When the Heroes for Hire
attempted to get more information from Derek Khanata, Scorpion showed up
and told them to leave. She also told them that she had just killed
Paladin, which caused a fight between her and Black Cat. Khanata
intervened and took down Black Cat, before telling the HfH to leave.
(Incredible Hulk II#109) - SHIELD commander Gaberiel Jones
used Scorpion to get access to Rick Jones. Later, he sent her to
accompany Amadeus Cho as Cho searched for the Hulk to talk him down.
(Hulk Family: Green Genes I#1/3 (fb)) - While Scorpion and
Cho were searching, Cho informed her that SHIELD thought that Scorpion
might be related to the Hulk, since Monica Rappaccini and Bruce Banner
hooked up at a time that lined up.
(Incredible Hulk II#109) - Scorpion and Cho came across
the Hulk's warbound torturing captured Heroes, before the Hulk himself
snuck up behind Cho.
(Incredible Hulk II#110) - Scorpion saved Cho from an
attack by the Hulk, which Cho didn't want her to do, as he was trying to
prove a point about the Hulk not being a killer. The Hulk knocked open
the ground, and Scorpion and Cho fell into the sewers. Scorpion
attempted to use the new Toxin she recently stole to take down the Hulk,
but Amadeus knocked her out before she could do that. Once Scorpion
recovered, Angel flew her to where Hulk and Cho now were. Scorpion used
her Stinger to poison the Hulk. It took him down for a bit, but he
survived, and attacked Amadeus Cho afterwards. Angel flew Scorpion out
of the way of this attack, and she watched as Hercules recovered a still
alive Cho from the rubble.
(Amazing Spider-Man II#626 (fb) - BTS) - Upset with
SHIELD's attempts to make her a killer, Scorpion quit SHIELD and started
working on her own.
(Hulk Family: Green Genes I#1/3 - BTS) - Scorpion
discovered SHIELD had captured Bruce Banner. She decided to get his
body, so she could test if he was really her father.
(Hulk Family: Green Genes I#1/3) - Scorpion attacked a
SHIELD transport she believed to contain Banner's body. After taking
down the SHIELD agents guarding the body, she took the tank containing
the body away. However, she upon opening it, she discovered that the
body was a decoy. She cried, her questions remaining unanswered.
(Avengers: The Initiative I#24 (fb) - BTS) - Scorpion went
undercover in Hydra's Madripoor branch in order to get access to the
Super Power Inhibiting Nanobots Hydra had manufactured. During this
mission, she seemingly grew legitimately close to branch leader
Hardball, who she thought could be redeemed. Or that was a load of
baloney she later told him to distract him, take your pick.
(Avengers: The Initiative I#22) - Scorpion, along with
Hardball and a bevy of Hydra agents ambushed the Shadow Initiative, who
were on a mission to Madripoor to locate Hardball.
(Avengers: The Initiative I#23) - Scorpion and Hardball
were attacked by Hardball's ex-girlfriend Komodo, who Hardball shot with
S.P.I.N. to neutralize. The Shadow Initiative proceeded to run away, but
the Hydra Agents, including Scorpion, were able to capture Komodo.
(Avengers:
The Initiative I#24) - When the rest of the Shadow Initiative pretended
to surrender, Scorpion advised Hardball to lock them up. Later, her and
Hardball went to Hardball's office, where Komodo was being held. Before
Hardball could take blood from Komodo, they heard an explosion, and
Scorpion and him went to investigate. Scorpion had Hardball hang back as
he sent Bloodscream and Roughhouse to deal with the escaping Shadow
Initiative members. She explained to him that she was there under false
pretenses, urged him to be better, and then they kissed. During the
kiss, Scorpion stole his supply of S.P.I.N. She then ran away.
(Incredible Hercules I#133 (fb)) - Amadeus Cho remembered
World War Hulk, including Scorpion's role in it, while looking over his
life story.
(Amazing Spider-Man II#626 - BTS) - Scorpion was hired by
the Karvinoff family to steal the previous Scorpion's suit for $100,000.
The Kravinoffs provided her with a new outfit for this mission, which
allowed her to channel her toxins through a prehensile tail instead of
just her left arm.
(Amazing Spider-Man II#626) - While in the Rafters above
the Hood's auction of the prior Scorpion's suit, Scorpion ran into
Spider-Man, who she had never seen before and so did not recognize.
Scorpion and him exchanged words before fighting. Scorpion stung
Spider-Man, using the S.P.I.N. she'd acquired to neutralize his powers.
As Spider-Man was being beat up by the Hood's goons, Scorpion snuck up
behind him and punched him, stealing the suit. Scorpion ran away, the
Hood sending his goons after her. Scorpion had difficulty navigating the
warehouse, and was eventually cornered by Tombstone, who bit her.
Scorpion stung Tombstone in response, and then had to fight a bunch more
goons.
The goons overwhelmed Scorpion through sheer
numbers, and were about to kill her before Spider-Man used his webs to
save her. Spider-Man brought down the warehouse on the Hood and his
goons, before swinging out of there with Scorpion. They shook hands,
Scorpion said she owed Spider-Man one, and then they went their separate
ways. Later, Scorpion reported to the russians who hired her, giving
them the suit. They were creepy about it, but they did pay, so Scorpion
let it slide.
(Young Avengers II#11 - BTS) - Through Batwing, Scorpion
was informed of the Young Avengers' fight against the extradimensional
parasite Mother, and went to join them.
(Young Avengers II#12/Young Avengers II#13 - BTS) -
Scorpion was among the young heroes who aided the Young Avengers in said
battle.
(Young Avengers II#14) - Scorpion attended a celebratory
new years eve party with the Young Avengers.
(Superior Foes of Spider-Man I#8 - BTS) - Boomerang was
vaguely aware of the existence of a "Girl Scorpion", and considered
inviting her to join his gang. Of course, when he decided to merely
reunite with his then-current gang, he didn't think of her again.

In the family section of Scorpion's profiles
in All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z I#9 and
Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z I#10, she is said to
have a brother named "Lorcan Rappaccini". That's a character mentioned
in the future of Death's Head 3.0; while I can find no evidence outside
of these entries to support Lorcan's existence in 616, eh.
Also, both handbook entries say that she has
blue eyes, although every instance I can find where you can tell what
her eye color is, they're green. This is most noticeable in Amazing
Fantasy II#7 [that one close-up shot, you know the one], but it's
present literally everywhere else. I do mean everywhere, I can't find
any coloring errors.
I am told by online sources that Scorpion
appeared in Avengers: The Initiative
Special I#1, but I can't find her.
I'd presume Scorpion's presence in Avengers:
The Initiative I#1 and 3 is part of her whole front as a legitimate
super-hero.
Poor Scorpion. I mean, really, both Derek
Khanata and Monica Rappaccini have gotten more appearances than her over
the years.
I'm pretty sure a No-Prize is available to
whoever can explain the graph from the ending of Young Avengers II#11.
Also, Scorpion was left off the credits at the end of Young Avengers
II#13.

Janice and Carmilla Black were good friends
growing up in Grand Falls Virginia. Janice always excelled in
school. However, due to international events and economic
problems, Jancie was unable to go to college, and found herself
working at the local bank. When Carmilla Black returned to the
town after years on the run, Janice met up with her at the
river, but fled when Carmilla was attacked by AIM agents.
