Powers/Abilities: Brad Gutman did not have any superhuman powers, although he was a “skilled” mortician, even if he did “like” the bodies more than he should have.
History:
(X-Statix#12) - As X-Statix went on a mission to the India/Pakistan border,
Dead Girl began her modeling career. During her first televised shoot, angry
protesters bombarded Dead Girl with accusations that she was not being a
good role model to the girls who looked up to her. After her disaster of
a photo shoot, Dead Girl joined the Anarchist and met with Brad Gutman,
X-Statix’s mortician, who referred to the deceased bodies as his “boys
and girls,” much to the horror of Dead Girl. Brad explained that he
tended to get attached to his “guests” and that he made that each
body got the best possible treatment. Brad then asked Dead Girl if she would
like a slab for the night, explaining that each table in the mortuary was
heated or cooled to the individual’s requirements. The Anarchist claimed
that he could do with some sleep himself. Brad quickly announced that the
mortuary didn’t serve his kind and the Anarchist thought that Brad was
making a racial slur, when in fact, Mr. Gutman was referring to the fact
that the Anarchist was still alive and not dead. Upon returning from his
job, Brad Gutman kissed his daughter, much to the disgust of his wife, Brenda.
Brenda explained that Brad was touching his daughter with the fingers that
he had so recently been touching corpses with. That night, angered at
Brad’s love of the deceased, Brenda put on pale makeup and threw a cold
steak at him, claiming that she even took a cold bath as Brad had asked her
to. Angry at her family situation, Britney Gutman, Brad’s daughter,
went on a shooting rampage at her school. Just as Dead Girl was talking her
out of killing others, the police shot Britney dead. Brad Gutman quickly
arrived on the scene and took his daughter to X-Statix’s mortuary, while
his wife screamed to the police. As Brad lay his daughter onto a cold table,
he claimed that he would “take good care” of Britney. Angered at
Brad’s “love of the dead,” Dead Girl rammed her fingers through
his chest, removing his heart, much to the surprise of her fellow X-Statix
members. Dead Girl used her powers to communicate with and bring back the
ghosts of those whom Brad Gutman had “loved” and then left his
corpse to the ghosts’ desires.

BRENDA GUTMAN
Brenda Gutman was the wife of Brad. She knew of his obsession with the dead, and despised it when her daughter Britney dressed in pale makeup. The night before Britney’s death, Brenda put on pale makeup of her own, threw a cold steak at Brad, and even took a cold bath, all in an attempt to show Brad how disgusting he was and what he was doing to their daughter. When Britney was shot by the police, Brenda screamed to the police not to let Brad take his daughter back to the mortuary.

BRITNEY GUTMAN
Britney Gutman was Brad’s daughter. She dressed in pale makeup, much to the disgust of her mother, who knew that Brad’s necrophilia was affecting his daughter. Angered at her family situation, Britney decided to go on a shooting spree at her school. X-Statix arrived to stop her and Dead Girl spoke with Britney and began to talk her out of the shooting spree. Before Britney could leave the roof, though, police shot her dead. Upon her death, Brad took her to the mortuary, but Dead Girl killed him before he could do anything with his own daughter.

OFFICER STONE
Officer Stone was one of the police officers called in during Britney Gutman’s shooting spree. When X-Statix arrived, he told them that it was a police matter, until the cameras arrived. Once the television cameras found Officer Stone, Stone claimed he was working so well with X-Statix that he was practically an honorary member. Officer Stone was the one who ordered the shooting of Britney Gutman.
