Woden Thorson;

Base of Operations: At least formerly the
Great Lake, North American midwest (on the at least former
America-Canadian border in the region of the fomer Great Lakes)
First Appearance: Galactic Guardians#2 (August, 1994)
Powers/Abilities: An immense creature appearing to be a hybrid of a crustacean and a cephalopod, it apparently had two shorter, clawed limbs and four longer tentacles.
It swelled within radioactive, inhospitable water and enjoyed feeding on living prey, although it may have been an omnivore and/or derived energy/sustenance from radiation.
It had a pair of eyes on stalks, a pairly of feeler/antennae and a vertical maw with multiple rows of teeth.
History:
(Galactic Guardians#2 (fb) - BTS) - During
the final war prior to Earth's defeat by the Martian Masters,
plasma-nuceleonic bombs vaporized cities like Chicago, Detroit and
Milkwaukee. The Great Lakes virtually melted into one large toxic pool
known as the Great Lake. What remained of the land mass was referred to
as the Scorch Zone. The highly radioactive atmosphere made it unfit to
sustain human life, although mutated species were known to exist in
certain areas.
(Galactic Guardians#2 - BTS) - Battling the monstrous Silverback (an agent of Ubiquitor), Woden Thorson transported then both from atop the Bifrost bridge by Asgard to the Scorch Zone on Earth, after which Silverback tackled Woden into Great Lake.
(Galactic Guardians#2) - After Silverback and Woden sank beneath the surface, the crustacean mutate sensed the concussive waves from far below, and it awakened to feed upon them, grabbing them both with its tentacles.
(Galactic Guardians#3) - Several fathoms beneath the surface (with a fathom being 6' or 1.8 meters), the crustacean mutate drew its captives toward its maw. Woden used his hammer, Mjolnir, to summon a powerful lightning bolt that penetrated the murky Great Lake, instantly turning it into an elemental cauldron.
At least stunned, the creature released Woden, who swam back to the surface along with Silverback, who had been knocked out by the electrical surge, and left Silverback on the surface before departing.
Comments: Created by Michael Gallagher and Kevin West.
The crustacean mutate was immense, and it seems hard to believe that it could find enough to eat to sustain its massive form in the Great Lake, but perhaps it was at least partially sustained by radiation.
The crustacean
mutate previously had a sub-profile in the Woden profile, originally
published 03/14/2006.
This profile was
completed 02/20/2026, but
its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th
anniversary 's celebratory event.
