Occupation: Sea monster

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: None

Enemies: Commander Hartnell

Known Relatives: None

Base of Operations: The Arctic region;
                                     (formerly) the ocean floor, most notably near South Pacific islands.

First Appearance: Tales to Astonish I#10/1 (July, 1960)

Powers/Abilities: As an incredibly large crustacean, Titano possessed enormous strength, enough to tear a large ship in half with its claw.

History:

(Tales to Astonish I#10/1 (fb)) - Titano's origins are unknown. It first made its presence known by causing tidal waves on a coast of Japan and later attacked a ship off the coast of Hawaii.

(Tales to Astonish I#10/1) - Commander Hartnell of the U.S. Navy was briefed on the attacks, and took a bathosphere into the ocean to try to find the creature, which he did. Barely escaping with his life, Hartnell came up with a plan. He had a submarine painted with a luminous coating. With Hartnell commanding, the sub got the attention of Titano and led it to the Arctic region. There, the sub quickly maneuvered away from a glacier, but Titano couldn't stop and plowed into the ice, trapping the monster.

Comments: Created by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.

Despite the "underwater" color scheme, Titano is actually an orange-ish color.

Reprinted in Tower of Shadows#7 and Marvel Monsters: Where Monsters Dwell#1

As seen in Avengers/Invaders#10 (June, 2009) Titano was killed in 1943 by the Red Skull (Johann Shmidt) when he used a Cosmic Cube to alter history, creating a new timeline (Earth-93198); the Invaders and Avengers restored the original timeline, reviving this Giganto. Other monster corpses seen floating in the ocean were the Atlantean Giganto, Monster Island's Giganto and Behemoth.
