TOADY
Real Name: Toady (or Toady-Drone)
Identity/Class: Extraterrestrial
(presumably created on Fortress or Tyrant's subsequent base) robot
Occupation: Servant, messenger, warrior
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: Tyrant
Enemies: Morg;
indirectly Galactus (Galan)
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: Toady-Drone;
"Bucket-Head," "Morph Boy," "Rustbucket," "Runt,"
"Scrap-Heap" (from Morg; the latter from Tyrant as well)
Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
formerly Tyrant's Fortress
First Appearance: Silver
Surfer III#101 (February, 1995)
Powers/Abilities: Toady appears to be a sentient
robot, or else he follows a complex program that approximates sentience.
Toady possesses a bio-mechanical
morphing ability, allowing him to bond to, transform and control other
beings and other forms of technology.
He
can form starships, such as the planet-skimmer. Although it was
referred to as "short-range," it appeared to be able to travel
interstellar distances with a short time period.
He briefly controlled the power of the
Ultimate
Nullifier.
For a robot, Toady was very
whimsical. He also very-much enjoyed Tyrant's devastation and slaughter
of other places and beings.
Height: Unrevealed (approximately 6')
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 200 lb.; it is difficult to
estimate, given his unrevealed composition)
Eyes: Solid white
Hair: None
Exoskeleton color: Red
History:
(Silver Surfer III#104 (fb) - BTS) -
The Toady drone was created and empowered by Tyrant.
(Silver Surfer III#101 (fb) - BTS) -
Presumably within the Fortress, Toady was beckoned by Tyrant.
(Silver Surfer III#101) - Eager
to respond to his master, Toady raced to Tyrant's chambers. Considering
that Tyrant would only summon him in matters of great import, Toady
wondered if it was the eve of a new campaign of destruction or a
blood-curdlingly delicious venture in genocide; nonetheless, he
considered that he had best not get his hopes up.
Upon reaching Tyrant, he stated, "You
rang, master?" And Tyrant told him, "Find
Galactus!"
(Silver Surfer III#102 (fb)
- BTS) - Toady, possible aided by others (he said "we," but maybe he
was referring to himself and Tyrant, or the "royal we" or he was
non-binary), locked onto Galactus' energy energy signature.
(Silver Surfer III#102) -
At Tyrant's query, Toady reported that they had locked onto Galactus'
signature and that it should be easy to relay any sort of holographic
communication that Tyrant desired. Tyrant instead instructed him that
the matter was best attended to personally, and he instructed Toady to
engage Galactus' herald Morg, so that he may schedule an audience with
his master. Tyrant further informed Toady that they would convince
Galactus that they sought peace with him and then strike when his guard
was done.
(Silver Surfer III#104) -
Having morphed his body into "a short range planet skimmer," Toady
considered that Tyrant could see and hear through his eyes and ears,
hypothesizing that if Galactus had done that with his creations, he
wouldn't have "blown through so many heralds." As he locked onto
Galactus' energy signature, he considered that this was the beginning
of a great adventure.
As he approached Galactus' worldship, Toady mused to
himself that the big man shouldn't bother warming any brownies as he
could only stay for a minute. He then appreciated the rapid approach of
Morg and prepared to deal with the "sandpaper-faced butchering" by
"pull<ing> out the big--" However, he was interrupted when Morg
destroyed the ship. Morg subsequently stood over Toady's recumbent form
(either within the remnants of Toady's ship or on Galactus' worldship),
telling him it was time for his one-way ticket to the scrap-heap.
Toady told Morg to relax, as he meant no harm, that
Morg should not shoot the messenger, as he had a message for Galactus
from Tyrant but had come in peace. Hating Tyrant, Morg advised him that
he would be going in pieces.
Firing eyeblasts at Morg, Toady warned him that he
was armed and dangerous, but Morg used his axe to sever Toady's left
arm and then advised him that now he was neither. Toady called him a
maniac and warned him that when Tyrant found out what he had done to
his representative, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Morg then
severed both of Toady's legs and advised him that neither would he.
At Toady's query, Morg explained that he hated
Tyrant most of all because he had had to team up with "that sissy
Surfer" to escape Tyrant's clutches in the past.
(Silver Surfer III#105 (fb)
- BTS) - Morg brought Toady to Taa II, and Toady informed Galactus that
Tyrant wanted to arrange a meeting.
(Silver Surfer III#105) - After
Galactus proclaimed, "Tyrant wants
what?!?",
Toady suggested that Galactus might hear better if he took off his
helmet. Galactus advised Toady that insolence was unseemly from one
bound to servitude, and he instructed him to again relay the message
from his master. Toady reiterated that Morg was coming to Taa II and
wanted to settle the feud between them once and for all; he then asked,
"So, you gonna keep me waiting around
for an answer, or what?"
When Morg asked Galactus to let him chop off Toady's
head, Toady complained about his agent's treatment of exalted guests.
Morg threatened to annihilate Toady, but Galactus told him to stay his
blade, and Toady told Morg, "Yeah...what
he said!"
Galactus explained that this day had been long
coming and that Galactus' feeding on biospheric energies drained
Tyrant's power source, and after Morg summarized his understanding of
their opposing natures, Toady replied, "In
essence, baldy."
Charging Toady with energy fired from his eyes,
Galactus told him to go and tell his lord that he would meet with him.

(Silver Surfer III#105 - BTS) -
Wishing to be at his peak when he faced Tyrant, Galactus told Morg
to
find a world upon which he could feed.
(Silver Surfer III#106)
-
Witnessing Tyrant's agony as Galactus consumed the bio-spheric
energies
of a planet, Toady considered that if Galactus eventually ate
every
planet in the universe, Tyrant would be "too weak to whistle."
Although
considering this an unlikely prospect, Tyrant agreed that he must
insure against it.
Toady subsequently flew Tyrant in another
planet skimmer ship to confront Galactus. (Silver Surfer III#106 -
BTS) - Meanwhile, in preparation to assist Galactus against
Tyrant,
Morg pressured Air-Walker (Gabriel Lan), who then only existed as
a
program in Galactus' ship to help him locate the Ultimate
Nullifier.
(Silver Surfer III#107)
-
Arriving on Taa II, Morg announced that father and son wold meet
and
only one would earn the right to carry on the legacy of fear and
hatred, and Toady replied that he could think of nothing nobler, "O Imperial Lord and Master! Kick him
once for me!"
Tyrant then instructed Toady to remain in the
ship while he met with Galactus.
(Silver Surfer III#108)
- From the ship, Toady cheered on Tyrant in his battle against
Galactus, "Whoo-hooo! Way to go,
Daddy-O...I mean Oh great despot sir!"
After Tyrant turned Galactus' energy-draining
equipment back on him
and toppled his creator, Morg arrived with the Ultimate Nullifier.
(Silver Surfer III#109)
-
Seeking to protect his master, Toady leapt on Morg's back and
began
using his bio-mechanical morphing ability to merge with Morg's
body.
Despite Morg's resistance, Toady extended his mechanical systems
down
Morg's arm to engulf the Nullifier and form a gun-like structure
to
channel and focus its energies. Continue to burrow into Morgan's
head,
Toady noted his intention to burrow into his brain and take
control of
him.
|
However, Morg fought off Toady's influence and
took command of
their combined form, giving him control over the Nullifier. After
Morg
blasted off Tyrant's legs, Tyrant cursed Toady as a sycophantic
scrap
heap and told him that this was going to cost him. Noting this not
be
his fault, Toady explained that the power of the Nullifier was
consuming both of them (him and
Tyrant or him and Morg?; I think the former), superseding
his morphing abilities. Morg mocked Toady, stating that he found
the situation cool.
Weakened by Tyrant's assault, Galactus feared
to manipulate the
technology associated with the Nullifier in its unstable
condition. As
Morg prepared to assault the incapacitated Tyrant, Toady -- unable
to
prevent this -- futilely apologized, but then the newly arrived
Silver
Surfer attacked Morg, unwilling to let him murder the helpless
Tyrant.
As the two battled, Galactus appreciated that
the Nullifier's
energies were building and that hear feared that the drone (Toady)
could no longer contain them and that it was going to explode.
Sending the Surfer away, Galactus sealed his
worldship to contain
the imminent explosion, but Morg, after cutting off his own right
arm
(which was bonded to Toady and the Nullifier), tore a hole through
the
seal and fled. The Nullifier subsequently exploded, destroying
Toady,
Tyrant, Galactus and Taa II.
(Fantastic Four I#414 (fb) - BTS) - Galactus escaped the Nullifier
by escaping into an extradimensional void. |
Comments: Created by Mike Lackey and Tom Grindberg; possibly conceived by Ron Marz & Mike Friedman.
Toady was mirthful and snarky, atypical for a robot,
and certainly not what you would expect Tyrant to have programmed him
to be.
Tyrant later turned back up, too, and
he could certainly create a new Toady. Given his power level (and
artistic license from the story writer(s)), he could even restore Toady
with complete memories, etc.
This profile was
completed 08/21/2026, but
its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th
anniversary 's celebratory event to represent Tyrant's stories and
characters.
