He is also superhumanly
durable, able to withstand physical assaults from superhumanly
strong, armored opponents, or energy blasts from similarly able
foes. Glare can generate great heat, sufficient to melt bullets into liquid before they struck him (presumably being further protected from their residual inertia by his own durability). He can also project blinding
light from his right eye (focused via a high-tech eyepiece),
which at close range and in unprotected eyes may cause complete
blindness. Maddened by his mutation, Glare
is commonly rampaging and seeking vengeance on UltraTech and
Stanley Leland, although he will happily blind, pummel or even
kill anyone or smash anything in his way. He enjoys hurting
others. He sometimes suffers intense headaches. Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 350 lbs.) Eyes: Glowing red Hair: Gray-white pony tail only (otherwise bald); he also has whisker-like hair projections from his cheeks and sometimes a small goateee. Skin: Green (with raised, more darkly-colored splotches on the top of his head, at least) |

(Prototype#1 (fb) - BTS / Prototype#3 (fb) - BTS / Prototype#11 (fb) - BTS / Malibu Sun#35 (fb) / Prototype I#0/3 (fb)) - Gerald was mutated via wetwear (specifically photonic implants) as part of Project: Glare at UltraTech under the direction of Stanley Leland, and both Felicia Campbell and Marjorie Fredericks were amongst those involved with the process. (Malibu Sun#35 (fb) - BTS/ Prototype I#0/3 (fb) - BTS) - In his experimental
tests, Glare found that he could get his body hot enought to
melt bullets before they struck him. (Malibu Sun#35 (fb) / Prototype I#0/3 (fb)) - During painful treatments, Gerald asked what they were doing and why he had turned green. Those treating him told him it was just a harmless side effect of his photonic energy receptors. They further advised him that he had a field test in improvisational combat training against Prototype that morning, and they told Gerald to kick Prototype's butt for them. Stating that he felt the power as he began to glow, Gerald told them to bring that "tin-can" on. Glare subsequently ambushed Prototype, laughing as Campbell cried out in pain and stating, "That old bucket of bolts is no match for Glare!" In response, Prototype fired his built-in machine gun at Glare, who heated himself sufficiently to both melt the bullets before they struck him and to send the heat and blinding light back at Prototype. As Glare celebrated his victory, however, Prototype lined up his sensor array, allowing him to fly full speed into Glare. As Glare continued to heat himself and get brighter in an effort to stop Prototype, Campbell eventually was forced to let him go and crashed to the ground. However, by that point, Glare had pushed his power beyond his own ability to control it, and he cried for help, noting that he was burning up. (Malibu Sun#35 (fb) - BTS / Prototype I#0/3 (fb) - BTS) - Glare's loss of control apparently caused UltraTech to abort further work on him. Bob Campbell apparently suffered some burns despite the armor. (Prototype#1 (fb) - BTS) - When next observed, Glare had a device over his right eye, presumably focusing his blinding power, but also perhaps replacing a blinded or otherwise damaged eye. |
(Prototype#1) - Glare
confronted Larry, an UltraTech accountant, and his unidentified
girlfriend, demanding to known where UltraTech was. When Glare
grabbed the girl, she told him she didn't know; not liking her
answer, Glare fired a blast from his right eye that blinded her,
perhaps permanently. Glare considered the situation delightful, but Larry punched him in the face, asking why he couldn't leave decent people alone. Unphased, Glare replied that he did not know any decent people before punching Larry and knocking him through the air into the wall, while telling the "gnat" to get away from him. He subsquently rampaged, picking up cars and shattering the sidewalk by screaming, "Ultra-Tech!" and "Leland -- Glare is coming!" (Prototype#1) - Continuing to shout Leland's name, Glare fought off many police officers. (Prototype#1) - Glare's rampage and shouting of Leland's name was reported to Leland by his agent Mandel. Leland sent the new Prototype (Jimmy Ruiz) to stop Glare. (Prototype#1) - As Glare pummeled another man, he was shot at least twice in the head by another person, possibly a police offer. Noting that the bullets tickled, Glare swiftly healed himself, noting that he had the power and liked it. Shouting that they couldn't stop him no matter how hard they tried, Glare blasted and presumably blinded one of those two men. ![]() After Glare shouted that he always won, Prototype tackled him through a building's wall. Glare then punched Prototype back out of the building. (Prototype#1 - BTS) - Observing the fight remotely, Leland queried his agent Conrad who told him that the Las Vegas odds-makers put Prototype's chances of success at 500 to 1. Noting that he had a good feeling about this kid, Leland put $1000 down on Prototype. (Prototype#1) - Noting he
didn't like him, Glare punched back Prototype, "knocking his
headgear screwy." Trying to end the fight, Prototype blasted him
back and told him he was no match for the new Prototype. (Prototype#1 - BTS) - The
conflict was observed by Aladdin's Jake Alexander, not
recognizing Glare (but planning to start a file on him, if he
survived) but correctly presuming the other guy to be
Ultratech's new Prototype. (Prototype#1) - Firing back
an eyeblast, Glare replied, "Big
talk for the new kid. Been nice knowing you. Nothing's going
to stop me from his appointment with Leland." Recovering control of the armor, Prototype flew up from behind and blasted Glare at full power, dropping him. Before the dust cleared, UltraTech superhuman agent Marjorie Fredricks (aka Veil), approached him. He was surprised to see her, but she touched him on the forehead, telling him to "Say goodnight," and seemingly killing him. As the dust cleared, bystanders assumed Glare to be dead, killed by Prototype. |
(Prototype#3
(fb) - BTS) - Glare was taken to a facility
in New York.(Prototype#3) - Jake Alexander supervised a number of technicians examining the seemingly deceased Glare, whose "meter readings" confirmed that Glare had implants and had empowered by Wetware. Alexander instructed them to wrap him up and get him out of there, as the guys at Aladdin were going to want to go "the full nine innings with this guy."
(Prototype#11) - At the Aladdin facility, as Glare demanded to be let out of his restraints, Jake Alexander asked what had happened, as he had seen Prototype kill him, and the two doctors or technicians noted that he was not dead anymore and suggested that if they did not want to be dead, they should leave quickly. Immediately thereafter, Glare tore free from his restraints. A pair of guards commanded him to halt, but he blasted them and then noticed that they were now "cracked and blind." As the other guards fled the
room, he called them imbeciles, noting that the sealed doors
would only keep him in there for awhile and that he could use
the exercise. Blinding a guard trapped in with him, he warned
that he would kill them all and then take his revenge on Leland
and UltraTech. Briefly holding his head and screaming in agony, Glare then proceeded to pound on the door, repeating his hatred for Leland as he did so. As the door began to buckle, Alexander told his agents to get Campbell on the phone, as they were going to need some ultra back-up to handle this guy. (Prototype#11 - BTS) -
Alexander contacted Bob Campbell, now the heroic armored Ranger,
for assistance, and Campbell brought Jimmy Ruiz, whose energy
powers had destabilized, for assistance from his ex-wife,
Felicia, who also worked at Aladdin. After some further struggle,
Glare smashed Ranger through the wall into the chamber in which
Felicia had been treating Jimmy. With Ranger temporarily
incapacitated, Glare confronted Felicia, and she recognized
Gerald from their work at UltraTech. When he told Felicia that
he was now called Glare and asked if she would like to know why,
Alexander blasted him with an energy gun and ordered her to let
the lady down easily. When Glare replied, "Screw
you, science major!" Alexander blasted him repeatedly,
but the laughing Glare walked into the blast, crushed his gun
and punched him back. Jimmy Ruiz then confronted
Glare, telling him that he had killed him once and could go it
again, but Glare told him that it was Veil who had done it, and
that she would get hers after he was through with Ruiz, and then
he would take care of Leland. Glare punched Ruiz in the gut,
mocking him as not having any protection, but the stress caused
Ruiz to power up, and he fired eyeblasts to block Glare's
efforts to blind him. As their eyebeams were matched, Ruiz fired
blasts from his hands that eventually subdued Glare. |

Further noting that the U.S.
government wanted him dead or alive, Glare lifted the scythe and
prepared to swing it at him while noting that he preferred dead.
However, before he could swing the scythe, he was dropped by a
pair of stars thrown by Shuriken. Ultimately, the Exiles fled when they were again confronted by Maxis. |
As far as I could
tell, Glare's surname was revealed in his card (see
below).
I don't own Malibu Sun#35, but according to the cover date on the Marvel Database, it was the original source of the story from Prototype#0/3.
Thanks to Grendel
Prime for pointing out the appearance in All-New Exiles#11 and the
