Powers/Abilities: Harmony Young had the power to get dressed up like a doll and look good in front of a camera. Looking good was pretty much all she was interested in. She was a very social person that knew how to make contacts to further her own career. She was a bit of a scaredy cat that dreamed of a normal life while also wishing for the riches and living standards of the high society. She also seemed to become dumber with each minute (and writer) and oblivious to her surroundings though it possible that she was just really manipulative and her whole demeanor around other people was a big show to get what she wants though it didn't always work.
She really liked to give Luke pet names he didn't care for like Lukie, lamb or lambie. He was not a fan, but he had a hard time thinking straight while he was around her.
Height: Unrevealed (5'10"; by approximation)
Weight: Unrevealed (130 lbs.; by approximation)
Eyes: Brown (sometimes wore green lenses)
Hair: Black
History:
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#51) - Five years earlier Harmony Young worked as a secretary and could barely pay a month's rent. This changed after she became a successful model.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#50) - Harmony Young attended the party Jeryn Hogarth threw for Luke Cage after he was exonerated from his crimes. The party was attacked by the brothers Discus and Stiletto, who sought to kill Cage. Discus threw an exploding disc at Cage and it destroyed a balcony right above Cage and Harmony Young. Cage saved Harmony from getting crushed by the balcony, but Harmony was more concerned that her nails were ruined. She had them done for a commercial the next day and they cost 50 dollars apiece and they were ruined. Cage told her to be glad that she was still alive and could look at them and then kissed her to cheer her up.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#51) - Luke Cage visited Harmony Young at her Turtle Bay Plaza apartment with flowers and asked for a cup of coffee. He got what he asked for and was quite impressed by her apartment, but Harmony already dreamed about a better one. She remembered how bad she was doing five years ago and ever since getting a taste of the good life never wanted to go back. She hoped Luke wasn't bothered by that not only wasn't he bothered, but they were both obviously attracted to each other. Luke invited Harmony to spend the day with him and she accepted because she no plans and he had asked nicely.
(Marvel Team-Up I#75 (fb)) - Harmony went out on a date with Luke Cage at the Studio 13 dance club in Manhattan. He got her a drink, but their night together was interrupted by the protection racketeers known as the Rat Pack attacking the club.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#58) - Luke Cage and Iron Fist took their dates Harmony Young and Misty Knight to Club 51. Luke Cage wasn't a fan of the club and Harmony drank wine that Cage wondered how much it would cost him in the end. She was really impressed by the beautiful dresses the women of drug dealer Hayes were wearing and asked Luke if he knew the little man. He did and hoped he could one day get him for his crimes. To Harmony's shock the little man was attacked and robbed by the swashbuckler Águila. Luke assured Harmony that Águila wasn't interested in anyone but Hayes. Luke still got involved in the situation to first save Águila from getting shot by Hayes and then helplessly watch as Águila got away with the jewelry and money stolen from Hayes and his women.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#64 (fb) - BTS) - Earlier that day Harmony told Luke that she wasn't working that day. She received an unexpected visit from Señor Muerte, who threatened her life because she was close to Luke Cage.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#64) - Luke Cage paid Harmony a visit later that day and was surprised when she first didn't answer the doorbell and then told him to go away. Afraid that she was not alone and in danger, Luke broke through the door and found her crying on her chair. She explained how she was scared after a scary man with a skull-like mask had threatened her. Harmony just wanted Luke to leave before the scary man returned to kill her. Luke promised to deal with Muerte. He and Iron Fist later got the criminal Señor Muerte and his brother Señor Suerte (Jaime Garcia) arrested.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#66) - On 42nd Street Harmony and two other girls were part of a photoshoot for a jeans ad. They were lounging on a golden car, but Murray wasn't happy with Harmony, who was distracted by some commotion up the street. Some guy running by told her that Power Man was back in town and Harmony immediately ran off to welcome her returning boyfriend. She jumped on Luke's back and he accidentally dropped the fridge. Murray ran after Harmony and was mad at her because they were losing the afternoon light and threatened to take it out of her salary if that cost him any money. Luke didn't take any crap from Murray, wrapped Murray's camera around his neck and left with Harmony to buy her lunch. Luke took her to the Middle Eastern restaurant known as Alexandra's Topkapi Cabaret and talked up the atmosphere and dancers after warning her that the food is a little bit weird.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#67) - Iron Fist visited the set of a photoshoot Harmony was part of to ask her if she knew where Luke Cage was. Harmony was really concerned because she didn't know either and then warned her nail girl Maggie to make sure that she doesn't smear her nail polish.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#71) - Harmony took Luke to a high society party and he was so uncomfortable. Harmony enjoyed paparazzi taking photographs of her and Luke and mingling with the people, but it just wasn't Luke's world. While Harmony was pulled aside by a guy named Phil, who wanted to talk to her about how green her eyes were and what he could do for her career, Luke was treated like an attraction by the other party goers and eventually flipped out and destroyed a piano when they asked him to show them how strong he was. Harmony didn't understand it and told the others that Luke was usually very gentle.
The next day Harmony went to the Gem Theater to talk to Luke, but D.W. told her that she couldn't at the moment because he was hanging from the building's ledge and had his life threatened by the thief Montenegro. Iron Fist saved him, but Montenegro escaped. Harmony hugged Luke when he was safe back on the ground. She was so worried earlier, but for Luke it was just part of the job.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#73) - Luke, Harmony, Danny and Misty went to Broadway to watch "The Day of the Deadlox" starring their friend Bob Diamond. After the show Luke took Harmony home.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#78) - Harmony directed Luke Cage, who had volunteered to help her, upstairs to Misty Knight's apartment where she was moving in. Luke Cage was holding her massive chair and several boxes, lamps and other stuff in his arms when she stopped him, got up on a stepladder and pulled a Grover plushy and a few other things from the boxes because they could stay downstairs. The rest Luke had to carry to her room upstairs and neither Danny nor Misty or Colleen were helping him because he volunteered. Harmony took a plant to its new home while Colleen wondered out loud if Misty actually thought that this was a good idea, but Misty told her that she couldn't manage the rent with Jean Grey gone and Harmony was looking for a new place. Luke Cage kept carrying up Harmony's stuff while Danny promised to him that there would still be a bit iced tea left after he was finished. Harmony was already looking through Misty's dresses and told her how lovely some of them were even though she couldn't wear them because they didn't wear the same size. Misty wondered why Harmony was looking through her closet and Harmony told her that she was moving Misty's stuff to the little closet and took the large one because her stuff would never fit into the little closet. Luke was finally done bringing in Harmony's stuff and sat down to discuss with Danny, Misty and Colleen their plan to deal with the Slasher (who turned out to be none other than Sabretooth), but they were interrupted by Harmony, who told Luke that she would let Luke buy her dinner that night because he had worked so hard. Luke told her that he couldn't because he would be working until well after midnight. Harmony totally ignored what he said and told him to meet her outside the Wagner Building.
That night Harmony was waiting for Luke outside the Wagner Building and he didn't show up decided to walk over to his apartment to surprise him. When she finally made it she saw Luke and Dr. Claire Temple glare longingly into each other's eyes.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#79) - Harmony took Luke to her apartment and they interrupted Danny and Misty. The boys got into an argument over who should take their to their place, but Harmony suggested that they could all stay and put on a little mood music. Misty and Harmony ended up alone after Danny and Luke had to leave after an emergency call from Bob Diamond. Misty asked Harmony if she knew how to play gin and we never learned if she did.
(Uncanny X-Men I#159) - The X-Men (Colossus, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Sprite/Kitty Pryde, Storm and Wolverine) barged into Misty Knight's apartment, but instead of Misty they surprised her roommate Harmony Young. Kitty recognized Harmony as a famous fashion model in New York. Nightcrawler hit on Harmony, who was okay with the X-Men staying for a bit especially the cute guys. Wolverine reminded Kitty that she would be visiting her family that night with Storm, which was the main reason why they visited Misty's place because neither Kitty nor Storm could visit them dressed like they were. Harmony was quick to help out Storm and Kitty with some clothes. Harmony loved Storm's hair and wished she could make her look like that. In addition to the clothes Harmony helped Ororo with some make-up. Ororo and Kitty soon left.
The boys stayed behind with Harmony, who was enamored with Nightcrawler. Hours later Kitty called them and checked up on Storm, who had left her place hours ago. Because she had never returned to Misty's apartment the guys left to go looking for her.
Days later the X-Men hung out with Harmony again after dealing with Dracula nearly turning Storm into a vampire. During their visit Harmony took a long distance call from Moira MacTaggert for Storm.
(Dazzler I#21) - Harmony attended a Dazzler charity concert alongside Luke, Iron Fist, Misty and many others.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#83) - At the duplex Misty and Colleen were waiting for Danny while Harmony waited for Luke. Misty was pretty sure that they had all been stood up and suggested to do something together. Harmony wanted to go shopping to find something to replace Misty's boots, but before she could explain to Misty why they needed to be replaced, Luke rang the doorbell. Harmony was glad to see him because she would not have known what he would have done without him that evening, but the phone rang and Luke had to go with Misty to the hospital to visit Danny, who got seriously hurt fighting Warhawk.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#84) - Luke returned Harmony to the duplex early and Danny, Misty, Colleen and Bob were surprised why they didn't stay out longer. Harmony explained that she had a photo session the next day and needed her beauty sleep. Luke would've loved to go out with the others, but not without Harmony. He felt a bit frustrated to love a woman whose life is all about her looks.
Harmony celebrated her beauty and having Luke as a boyfriend in front of Danny, Misty, Colleen and Bob before they left to let her have her beauty sleep and get out. Moments after they had left Sabretooth crashed through the window and jumped at Harmony, whom he mistook for Misty Knight. He wanted revenge for what Misty had done to him the last time he off with her. Harmony's scream was heard by the others. Harmony fled into Misty's room, but he easily tore through the door.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#84 (fb)) - Danny, Misty, Colleen and Bob were barely a block away when they heard the scream and returned immediately, but Constrictor was holding them back. Danny made it up the stairs first, but Sabretooth had already ripped apart Harmony's face when he arrived in the apartment. Danny stayed with the almost delirious Harmony while the others called an ambulance.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#84) - Luke was meeting with Claire at the hospital, who was called away to help Harmony. Luke was shocked when he saw what had happened to her while Harmony told him how she kept hoping that he would come to help her against the monster that tore open her face. Luke stayed with her until she was taken away for surgery. He promised to wait for her and Dr. Claire Temple promised to do her best. Luke made it clear that she was in trouble if she didn't do whatever it took to save Harmony. Luke then sat down with Danny to learn what had happened and they went together after Constrictor and Sabretooth.
Later that night after taking delivering a severe beating to Sabretooth, Luke returned to the hospital to be with Harmony. She already had good news from the doctors, who told her that there was a plastic surgeon that was able to fix her face and body. She was sure that she would be as beautiful as she was before. Luke was just glad that she lived and told her that she would always be beautiful to him.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#89) - Harmony was miffed at Luke for coming to a nice restaurant in tattered clothes. She was completely oblivious to the fact that he and Danny had just been in a fight with two mercenaries.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#90) - Harmony returned home to the duplex and was sure that Danny, Colleen, Misty and Luke were there to celebrate that it was one week since she got the bandages off and was beautiful again. She completely ignored that Danny was obviously injured and bandaged up on the couch. Harmony tried to get Luke's attention, but Misty had enough and called out Harmony for ignoring that Danny was injured and only thinking about her face. Harmony felt really bad for a moment, but was back to her bubbly, ignorant self when Danny got up and pretended like it wasn't that bad. Harmony suggested that they now had two reasons to celebrate. Her face and Danny feeling better. Danny told Luke to have some fun with Harmony while Misty took care of him.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#92) - Harmony tried to call Luke, but he didn't pick up the phone even after she let it ring twelve times even though Luke had told her that he was out of town. She wasn't sure what to do for lunch, but then just called a guy named Ernie to take her out for lunch. Misty asked Harmony who Ernie was, but Harmony told her that he was an agent, which made it business. She also reminded Misty that Luke had gone out with Dr. Claire Temple, so her going out with Ernie would make it even.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#94) - Harmony called Luke on his private line in his new office and asked him to go out for lunch with her, but he was working on a case and had no time. She wanted to know more and he explained the Chemistro case he was working on. She suggested he should just go on a break for lunch with her and then start his search for Chemistro fresh, but he couldn't leave Danny alone working the case. Luke hung up on Harmony when Iron Fist rushed in to tell Luke that they knew where Chemistro was.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#95 - BTS) - Iron Fist told Luke to call Harmony and tell her to kept the next day open. Danny bought a yacht and hired a crew because he was looking for something to give his life meaning and decided to use his money and buy stuff like millionaires do.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#95) - At 79th Street Boat Basin Danny was on his new yacht he had named Misty and invited Luke, Harmony, Misty and Colleen aboard and took them for a ride. Harmony thought it would be fun riding on a yacht, but Luke knew that Danny knew nothing about yachting, which was the reason why he had hired a crew. Harmony enjoyed their time on the yacht and the drinks served to her by the steward. She could get used to this and suggested to Luke that they should do this more often with Danny.
Danny was later found training by his friends and told them that he got nothing out of buying the yacht. Some time later he felt a strange pull in a direction and had the boat steered there only to find out that it was wedding, which Harmony considered so sweet. What wasn't so sweet was that the wedding guests were held prisoner by a crew of criminals (working for Ward Meachum to get their hands on the Power-Gem of Quon owned by the family). While Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing dealt with the criminals, Harmony Young was recognized by the bride as a famous fashion model. The bride invited her to some potato salad to get a chance to talk to her about her glamorous life. After the criminals were dealt with, the heroes were invited to stay for the five hour wedding and Harmony was the only one really enjoying it. While they left she told the others that this was the kind of life she wanted.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#97) - Luke Cage was moving out of the Gem Theater to move in with Danny after people in the area had seemingly turned on him, but after a talk with Claire he began to question his decision. Harmony picked up boxes with his stuff and assured him that he made the right decision and that he could get nice furniture and make new social contacts at a new apartment. She suggested to him to move to the East 80's where Andy Warhol lived. With all of Luke's boxes stashed in her car, Harmony rode off by her own because Luke wanted to do one final round in the area. Harmony didn't want to wait around because there was a sale at Bloomingdale's she didn't want to miss.
Harmony made it to Danny's place hours later and blamed the traffic. She was surprised that Luke had not arrived yet.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#98) - Luke and Harmony met at a restaurant. He was late and she was mad because he had suddenly changed his mind about moving out of the Gem Theater. She was pretty sure that Dr. Temple knew more about Luke's decision, but Luke assured her that he wanted to stay because he couldn't just leave the people that depended on him and he still liked the place. Harmony claimed that she didn't believe him and went to the toilet. She was sure that when she returned Luke would apologize to her and all would be back to normal, but he had enough of her attitude and just left.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#100) - Harmony arrived with Luke's blind friend Toby in the hospital lobby and at first planned to confront Luke about meeting with his ex-girlfriend Dr. Temple again, but when she saw Iron Fist in a wheelchair and looking like death, she instead became very protective and after weeks of friction between them just told Luke that she wished him to come back safe because she didn't want him to get harmed. She was present when Toby told Luke and Danny that Ward Meachum was apparently working for someone else (it was Master Khan).
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#105) - After saving Madison Square Garden from a bombing by the terrorist Black Tigers, Luke and Danny celebrated with their friends at a restaurant. Harmony was with her boyfriend Luke. Other guests were Misty, Colleen, Bob Diamond, Jeryn Hogarth and D.W. Griffith.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#106) - Luke and Harmony went out while Iron Fist had a soft job that turned sour when he had to deal with the mutant Whirlwind. Luke remained unaware and Harmony clumsily complimented Luke on his qualities compared to Danny, whose self control and kind personality Luke admired.
Luke took the day off to hang out in his old Harlem neighborhood and Harmony tagged along because she wanted to meet his family. The visit went sour almost immediately when Luke had to calm down a situation at Leroy's Grocery between the owner and a crazy kid. After that Harmony wanted to know if they could just leave or have to wait until the police arrived. Luke made it clear that nobody would call the police and get them involved because they would just cause more trouble for everyone and locals rather deal with the situation themselves. Harmony didn't understand this, but Luke realized that she couldn't because she was not from the area.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#107) - Luke gave Harmony a call while she was reading a book in bed. She told him how bored she was, but Luke couldn't come over to her place because he was on a job. Some kind of interference on the phone broke up their conversation.
(Power Man and Iron Fist I#108) - Luke and his friends were eating at a pizzeria to celebrate a recent victory. Luke gobbled down a whole slice of piece with one bite and Harmony was disgusted because cheese dribbled down his face.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#131/3 (fb) - BTS) - Harmony's relationship with Luke ended and at some point also her supermodel career.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#134/3 (fb) - BTS) - A fan obsessed with Harmony paid smugglers to bring him a mystical page with a "love spell" on it. He used the spell to become Harmony's lover, but by using it also freed the archdemon Darklove.
Darklove eventually possessed the lover.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#131/3 (fb) - BTS) - Harmony Young was beaten to death by her lover but not before giving him a good fight.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#132/3 (fb) - BTS) - Her body was found pinned to a wall by an invisible force while her lover and murderer was found in a catatonic state.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#131/3 (fb) - BTS) - Harmony's face was so badly beaten up that it took her dental records to identify her. The coroner, who knew Harmony mostly from magazine covers, needed plenty of time to scrape all her murderer's skin and tissue from under Harmony's fingernails.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#131/3 (fb)) - Cage visited the morgue where the coroner showed him the corpse of Harmony and he was shocked when he saw her face.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#131/3 - BTS) - Linda Wei reported on the death of supermodel Harmony Young and her ties to celebrities like Luke Cage.
Cage visited Harmony's grave and was afterward asked by several reporters if he would kill Harmony's murderer like the Punisher.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#132/3 - BTS) - Darklove encountered Luke Cage and admitted he was responsible for Harmony's murder.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#133/3 - BTS) - Cage visited Harmony's murderer at Bellevue Hospital and looking at his eyes realized that there was no way that he was a murderer.
Comments: Created by Chris Claremont, John Byrne & Dan Green.
A lot of things changed in Power Man and Iron Fist I#50. The title became officially a team-up title with the two heroes, Luke Cage was officially a free man and his girlfriend Dr. Claire Temple kicked him to the curb and he almost immediately replaced her with supermodel Harmony Young. She was around here and there, but never did much of anything until she just disappeared from Luke Cage's life after having pizza with him and his friends only to get killed off off panel almost a decade later in a storyline in Marvel Comics Presents.
Her birth year was given as 1966 in Marvel Comics Presents I#131, but this sounds topical at this point.
