History:

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#2 (fb) / Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#4 (fb)) - Matt Murdock spent an autumn afternoon with Elektra, the woman he loved. While searching for something "as rare and precious as her soul," Murdock gifted her a mysterious amulet that would later unleash terrible evil. Their happiness was short-lived, however, as that same day they encountered Baal leader of the Shadow Clan, who claimed Elektra's life. Baal and his protégé Venom took away Elektra's lifeless body. Consumed by grief and guilt, Murdock swore vengeance and dedicated himself to hunting down all who were corrupted by the amulet's darkness.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#1 - BTS) - Murdock became the Devil Hunter in search of those corrupted by the amulet's darkness and Baal.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#1) - During the Hulk's devastating rampage through New York, Hell's Kitchen was left in ruins. Disturbed by the dark forces unearthed beneath the neighborhood, Matt Murdock, in civilian attire, walked through the wreckage and prepared himself for the hunt. Having vowed to destroy all who were tainted by a mysterious amulet's darkness, Murdock laid out his Devil Hunter costume and entered a meditative state before donning it.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#1) - Later that night, Murdock, now fully garbed as the Devil Hunter, tracked the amulet, which had been acquired by the Black Cat on Norman Osborn's orders to resurrect his deceased wife. Confronting her just as she was speaking with Peter Parker, the Devil Hunter ruthlessly struck her down, slicing her in half with his razor-sharp blades. He then demanded Parker surrender the amulet before its corruption consumed him as well. Before anyone could react, the Graffiti Ninjas, agents of Norman Osborn sent to retrieve the artifact, attacked the Devil Hunter. From the sidelines, Parker suffered a small cut on his cheek, and as a drop of his blood touched the amulet, its dark power was released, transforming him into a black-costumed Spider-Man.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#2) - Devil Hunter visited a church where he reflected on his past failure to protect Elektra as he prepared for the battles ahead. Aware that Peter Parker had fallen to the amulet's power, he was determined to stop it. Murdock bowed down to a statue and pleaded for Elektra's strength in the coming conflict.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#2) - At Peter Parker's home, an anxious Aunt May was visited by Matt Murdock, she sought his help regarding the growing power of the amulet. Introducing himself as a "Devil Hunter," Murdock explained that the amulet held a physical manifestation of the world's darkness and that its influence had already begun to spread through Peter. He warned that those allied with the darkness would soon seek to recruit and then destroy the boy. Aunt May, revealing that she was already aware of the amulet's evil, sorrowfully explained that the same darkness had taken the life of her sister, Peter's mother.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#3) - At the Parker residence, Matt Murdock met with Aunt May to discuss Peter's worsening condition. Using his heightened senses, Murdock explained he could track Peter's movements through the strong trace of the amulet's dark energy. May, fearing for her nephew's safety, thanked him but confessed that Peter was all she had left. Murdock revealed that the amulet's corruption had fully bonded with Peter's life force, removing it would also end the boy's life. Though May was horrified at the revelation, Murdock insisted it was the only way to save Peter's soul, then left to continue his mission, promising to remain in contact.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#3) - Determined to take Peter's life, Devil Hunter made his way to the underground tunnels beneath New York into the Shadow Clan territory, followed by a ninja clad in white (May Parker). The Devil Hunter was ambushed by several of the Shadow Clan's ninja's but swiftly cut them down with his bladed gauntlets. Continuing deeper, he located the unconscious Peter Parker and prepared to strike, believing the amulet's corruption within the boy made his death necessary to prevent further darkness from spreading. Though he expressed regret, he declared that sparing Peter would bring greater suffering to the world and drove his blades into the boy's chest. To his shock, Peter survived and began transforming once more under the amulet's influence. The revived Black Cat appeared, attacking the Devil Hunter and taunting him for his failure. As chaos erupted, the Shadow Clan, Kuji Kuri and their leader Baal joined the battle, however, the amulet's dark power suddenly erupted from Peter, unleashing a massive explosion of energy that engulfed everyone present.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#4) - Amid the ongoing underground battle, Devil Hunter confronted Baal, the monstrous ninja leader responsible for Elektra's death years earlier. As their forces clashed, Murdock taunted Baal, reminding him of the "emptiness" he had created that fateful autumn day and vowing once again to destroy him and all his kind. Despite his fury and skill, the Devil Hunter was struck down by the overwhelming might of Baal's army. Moments later the fight came to an end when Venom (Peter's cousin) sacrificed himself to save Peter from the amulet's influence. With the battle coming to a close Black Cat forbid Devil Hunter from killing Baal insisting she still had unfinished business with him. Reluctantly forming a temporary alliance, the Devil Hunter and Black Cat stood together as Spider-Man left to save his Aunt May from the Green Goblin.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#5 (fb) - BTS) - With Spider-Man departing, Devil Hunter turned his sights on Baal again and apparently killed him, taking his mask with him.

(Spider-Man: Legend of the Spider-Clan I#5) - Devil Hunter stood atop a rooftop overlooking Peter Parker's school after Spider-Man had successfully dealt with the Green Goblin. Believing the war against darkness to be over, he addressed Elektra's memory, declaring that Baal and the Shadow Clan had been destroyed. Just as Devil Hunter took off he was followed by one of Baal's loyal follower who'd apparently survived.

(New Mangaverse: The Rings of Fate I#1 - BTS) - In time, Murdock left behind his grim role as the Devil Hunter and adopted a new costumed identity as Daredevil. Donning a streamlined red armored suit with horned headgear and twin batons.

(New Mangaverse: The Rings of Fate I#1 - BTS) - For years acting head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury hated playing second fiddler to the superhuman community and together with a mind controlled Sharon Carter and the super powered ninja's of the Hand set out to kill all of Earth's costumed heroes.

(New Mangaverse: The Rings of Fate I#1) - Daredevil and the Fantastic Four were attacked by the Hand's ninja's who took out Reed Richards and severed the Thing's hand.

(New Mangaverse: The Rings of Fate I#2) - In the midst of battle, a figure resembling Elektra appeared, leading the enemy forces. Rage overtook Daredevil, who accused her of desecrating the image of the woman he once loved. To his horror, the woman confirmed his fears as she truly was Elektra, resurrected and bound to the Hand. With Daredevil distracted, Elektra severely injured her former lover with her katana's. With Daredevil on his knees, bleeding, Elektra removed his helmet. Expressing a cold apology, she admitted that despite his past attempts to save her soul, there had never been anything within her worth saving. With that, she beheaded him, ending his life.

Comments: Created by Kaare Andrews & Skottie Young.

Although it's not specifically stated this Matt Murdock was a lawyer he did sure look like one when he visited Aunt May.

Depicted on the right side are Skottie Young's original sketches for the Devil Hunter taken from the Spider-Man - Legend of the Spider-Clan TPB from 2025.

In August 2002, Daniel HDR revealed to the Brazilian website Universo HQ that he proposed a female Daredevil to Marvel Mangaverse, but it wasn't approved. A concept for her appears in the article.
