Powers/Abilities: Dolly is an excellent cook, a renowned housekeeper, and can associate with dozens of superheroes without batting an eye.   And she has no compunction about serving beans for any meal.

History: Little is known about the early years of Dolly Donahue, and none about her family life.

(Defenders I#89 (fb)) - Dolly was friends with Dorothy Walker for years and became employed as the family housekeeper in Dorothy and Joshua Walker's home.   She played an active role in Patsy Walker's upbringing.

(Defenders I#89) - After Dorothy died, the house in Montvale was left to Patsy.   After the funeral, Dolly invited Patsy, Valkyrie, Nighthawk, and Bruce Banner over to the house to stay.   When they arrived, Patsy felt as though Dolly was making her feel guilty, as her mother so often had.   Dolly sent Valkyrie to the store, and sent Bruce Banner after her to give her money to shop with.   When they returned with only cans of beans (and Banner now in Hulk form), Dolly took it in stride and served the beans for dinner.   She had Nighthawk fix the TV antennae, and woke him up the next morning as he requested.

(Defenders I#90) - Dolly told the others that Nighthawk had left.   She offered them beans for breakfast.

(Defenders I#91) - Dolly purchased new food and was annoyed when the Hulk ate most of it right away.   She marveled at the strangeness of the Defenders as they left for battle.   She mourned for Dorothy.

(Defenders I#94 (fb)) - Dolly was cooking in the kitchen while Patsy mourned upstairs.   Dolly heard screaming and looked out the window to see Gargoyle flying off with Patsy.   Gargoyle made eye contact with Dolly, then blew the house up (with Dolly in it) with a blast from his hands.

(Defenders I#94) - Doctor Strange, Son of Satan, and Valkyrie found Dolly in the rubble of the house and heard what happened.   Dolly was rushed to the hospital

(Defenders I#95) - Dr. Winston (unseen) called to inform Patsy that Dolly was likely going to die.

(Defenders I#96) - Dolly lay comatose in the hospital while Patsy, Daimon Hellstrom, and the no-longer-evil Gargoyle visited her.   Daimon used his healing powers to speed Dolly's recovery.

(Defenders I#101) - Patsy, Gargoyle, and Valkyrie went to see Dolly in the hospital, where she'd spent all her free time reading to the children there.   She had only vague memories of a fire the night she'd been injured.   When Dolly saw Gargoyle's true form, she chose to accept him as a friend anyway.

(Defenders I#107) - After the Defenders returned from a battle in which Nighthawk and Valkyrie were seemingly slain, they were in deep mourning.   Dolly tried to comfort Hellcat by offering her something to eat.

(Defenders I#109) - Dolly and Vera Cantor discussed how strange their lives had become since they'd been affiliated with the Defenders, and yet how normal the team seemed to them.   When the team returned from a mission to Asgard with a resurrected Valkyrie, Dolly noticed how distressed Patsy seemed.   She convinced Patsy to confide in her, and pulled out some old photo albums.   Patsy, who'd been under the delusion that Satan was her father (a ploy by the Six-Fingered Hand) was convinced by Dolly to set her mind at ease by seeking out her real father, Joshua Walker.   Patsy later snuck out while Dolly was sleeping.

(Defenders I#112) - Dolly served food at a party at Nighthawk's brownstone with Gargoyle, Beast, Vera, Silver Surfer, Valkyrie, Vision, and the Scarlet Witch attending.   An astral image of Doctor Strange teleported all the heroes away, leaving Dolly and Vera alone again.

(Defenders I#116) - After the team returned from their mission, Dolly bid farewell to Vision and Scarlet Witch.   When Dolly commented on how lovely Scarlet Witch was , Isaac (the Gargoyle) surprised her by saying that Dolly was even lovelier.   Dolly and Isaac greeted Patsy when she returned, having found her father, newly interested in life, and in love with Daimon Hellstrom.   Isaac kept stealing the chocolate chips off of Dolly's cookies.   Dolly stated that Daimon was not a good love interest for Patsy because he was too frightening, but she reassured Isaac that Isaac's soul more than made up for his appearance.   Isaac said he was glad to have found a love in Dolly that ran deeper than passion.   Later, Isaac, Dolly, Patsy, Valkyrie, and the Beast watched a fireworks display that Dr. Strange and the Over-Mind put on.

(Defenders I#122) - Dolly met the Beast's new dog, Sassafras.   Patsy and Daimon came in and announced their wedding plans, and Dolly was shocked.   Patsy spoke to Dolly about her unease, and let Dolly know that Patsy felt closer to Dolly than she ever had to her mother.   Dolly admitted that she disapproved of the wedding with Daimon because she didn't trust him, but Patsy reassured her.   Dolly then talked to Patsy about what this news meant for Valkyrie, as Patsy and Valkyrie's friendship ran so deep.   Later, Dolly went out to a restaurant called the Desert Kettle with Isaac, Beast, Iceman, and Over-Mind.   She witnessed a fight between Beast and Vera Cantor.   After Beast expressed frustration with the Defenders status as a non-team, Dolly suggested he make it a team.   Isaac took Dolly dancing, saying she was the prettiest girl he had danced with since World War 1.   Dolly confessed that Isaac was the dearest man she'd ever known.

((New) Defenders I#125) - Dolly was awakened by Moondragon battling the Defenders.   After calling Dolly a ‘churlish malcontent,' Moondragon explained her origins to the team.   Dolly had escorted the Angel to his room earlier.   She fought to get the team's attention to let everyone know that Daimon and Patsy were getting married the next day.   The Beast announced that he was making the Defenders into a team.   Dolly flew with the team in an Avengers Quinjet to the wedding.   Dolly greeted Joshua Walker and his new wife, Beatrice.   Mad Dog and the Mutant Force attacked the wedding, but were vanquished by the Defenders.

((New) Defenders I#126) - Dolly served the team members hamburgers and coffee as they worked to elect a team leader.

((New) Defenders I#128) - Dolly served drinks and cookies and tried to raise the Defenders' spirits after a recent defeat.   The Beast threw a tantrum, and Dolly had to be rescued from a stack of falling boxes.

((New) Defenders I#129) - Candy Southern woke Dolly up.   Dolly served coffee and doughnuts as she had a heart-to-heart talk with Candy.

((New) Defenders I#130) - Professor Power attacked the mansion and held Dolly, Candy, and Sassafras hostage until the Defenders (including new teammate Cloud) arrived and defeated him.

((New) Defenders I#132) - Dolly relaxed with the team and played cards with Isaac.   When Ephraim Soles arrived at the mansion looking phony, Dolly left to get him some clothes and soap.   When she returned, there'd been a battle and Soles had exploded all over the room.

((New) Defenders I#133) - While the mansion was quarantined, Dolly flew to San Francisco with the team.

((New) Defenders I#134) - Dolly was present when Manslaughter almost killed the entire team.   She left the mansion with Sassafras while the major battle took place.   While she was gone, Isaac disappeared in a pentagram of flame.

((New) Defenders I#135) - Dolly cooked breakfast while Beast held Manslaughter in the kitchen.   She scolded Sassafras for sniffing at Manslaughter, because Sassafras didn't know where Manslaughter had been.   Later, Dolly was missing Isaac, feeling old without him.

((New) Defenders I#136) - Dolly was surprised to see that Cloud had turned into a man.   When Moondragon sensed that Isaac was alive, Dolly was shocked.

((New) Defenders I#138) - Dolly ran to Isaac's side, shocked to see that he'd returned with a severed hand.   When she learned he'd be okay, she teared up and rushed off to get the team something to eat.   Later, she congratulated Candy on getting chosen as team leader.

((New) Defenders I#139) - Dolly watched Moondragon battle a manifestation of Mantis, and, after the battle was over, offered a tearful Moondragon tea and comfort.   Days later, Dolly and Sassafras watched as the Defenders flew off to battle.

((New) Defenders I#140) - Dolly complimented Moondragon on her new costume.   She served the team milk and cookies.

((New) Defenders I#141 (BTS)) - Dolly was gone, so Beast taped Dynasty for her.

((New) Defenders I#142) - When Isaac confessed feelings of love for Moondragon, Dolly was surprised but understood.   She told him that hate was always easy and that love came as a pleasant surprise.   Isaac confessed that Dolly was a pleasant surprise for him always.

((New) Defenders I#143 (BTS)) - Dolly and Sassafras fled the mansion with Candy Southern when the Dragon of the Moon attacked.

((New) Defenders I#144) - The three of them fled in Candy's jeep through flooding streets while calling for help.   At Candy's request, Dolly retrieved guns from the back seat, just in case.   They rushed to the army base of General Argyle Fist for help.   They then started back for the mansion.

((New) Defenders I#145) - Dolly rushed into Isaac's arms when she saw him safe.

((New) Defenders I#146) - Dolly vacated the mansion with the team, under orders from General Fist.   They arrived at Doctor Strange's mansion.

(Hellstorm#3 (fb) ) - Dolly passed away.

Comments: Created by David Anthony Kraft, Ed Hannigan, Don Perlin, and Pablo Marcos.

Dolly Donahue was a long-standing and rich supporting character for a good team book.   She seemed to be developed as a foil to Hellcat's character, in exploring Hellcat's mother issues, but ended up being a wonderful counterpart to the character of Isaac Christians.   In (New) Defenders I#152, the team was defeated and disbanded.   All of the characters, even Sassafras, got a send off, but Dolly was nowhere to be seen.   Presumably Hellcat or Gargoyle (both of whom have died and come back since then) are still in contact with her.
