History: (Spider-Man Magazine (I#12)) - Flame Mammoth became a supervillain, battling foes such as White Canyon and Tornado.

Comments: Created by Justin Maust.

Flame Mammoth was a product of the 1994 Spider-Man Magazine's "Create Your Own Super Hero or Super-Villain" section that ran in most earlier issues of the Magazine. In Flame Mammoth's case, he was created by then-8-year-old Justin Maust of Fredericksburg, Virginia. As a fringe character, Flame Mammoth was not confirmed to exist on Earth-616 but there is equally no evidence to say he did not exist on Earth-616...

Flame Mammoth's height & weight were impossible to approximate, as he was never seen next to any character whose height & weight had been officially determined.

Flame Mammoth's origin was never shown but I'm leaning towards him being either some sort of robot or perhaps a human mutated into elephant-like form.

The issue of Spider-Man Magazine featuring Flame Mammoth was not numbered but recent reprints of the issue's comic strips in Adventures of Spider-Man & Adventures of the X-Men trade paperbacks identified the issue as #12.

I'd personally love to see a team-up involving Flame Mammoth, Mammomax and Man-Elephant...

Also, while no direct connection exists, it seems quite likely that Flame Mammoth's codename came from one of the Maverick robots from the original Mega Man X video game that came out two years prior to this issue of Spider-Man Magazine. However, despite the name, Marvel's Flame Mammoth doesn't really look much like the one in Mega Man X.
