SISTER LUCIA
Real Name: Corintha de Lucia
Identity/Class: Alternate
reality (Earth-928
circa 2099 A.D.) vampire
Occupation: Part of a religious order dedicated to
uniting the remaining vampires of Earth
Group Membership: Sisterhood of
Tears, Vampires of Earth
Affiliations: Lachryma
(Becka McBride)
Enemies: Unidentified
group of assassins hired by major corporations, including an
unspecified Japanese corporation.
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
presumably mobile
First Appearance: 2099 Unlimited#4/3 (April, 1994)
Powers/Abilities:
As a vampire, Lucia has enhanced human strength (likely lifting around
1000 lbs. and possibly more) and speed, as well as immunity to
conventional weaponry, such as bullets (she may have turned partially
into mist to avoid being struck by bullets).
She possessed enlarged canine teeth and
sharp claws able to rend flesh, at least.
She required regular blood meals to
survive. Further, feeding on a human victim would turn that
victim into a vampire, depending on the extent of the feeding and other
circumstances. She knew how to feed on someone without killing them, which
presumably spared them from being transformed into a vampire.
Those she vampirized may or may not have been
subservient to her.
When fully fed, she could likely heal
rapidly from non-fatal wounds.
She presumably
has the standard vampire vulnerabilities, including
sunlight, religious icons (such as the Judeo-Christian cross) and to the
Montesi
Formula, garlic, a wooden stake through the heart,
and silver.
She wore a nun's habit, but it is
unrevealed whether she could tolerate actual religious icons.
She may or may not have been unable to
enter a home without being invited.
She may or may not have been able to
mesmerize others with a gaze.
As she taught Lachryma to "phase her
form" (specifically turning into a bat), it is presumed that she could
do so herself, as well. However, it is unrevealed
whether he could transform into a wolf or into mist.
Height:
Unrevealed (approximately 5'8"; presumably variable when transforming into
bat, at least)
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 130 lbs.)
Eyes: Dark (likely dark brown or blue); solid red while attacking
Hair: Unrevealed (dark eyebrows; one image appeared to show some
black hair poking out from the back of her head)
History:
(2099 Unlimited#4/3 (fb) - BTS) -
Sister Lucia was a member of an ancient holy order of vampires known as
the Sisterhood of Tears.
Circa 2099 A.D., vampires had been
driven to near extinction, with few remaining.
The Sisterhood's cause was to unite the
remaining vampires, and she was on such a mission when she found...
(2099 Unlimited#4/3 (fb)) -
...attorney Becka McBride, who had been mortally wounded by
corporation-hired assassins for her firm's forcing a massive payment
from a major Japanese corporation.
Sister Lucia appeared out of the
shadows and leapt at the killers. Their bullets passed harmlessly
through her, and she severed the hand of the man who had shot Becka. In
flashes of silver, white and then red, Lucia swiftly finished off the
assassins (despite at least some of them being cybernetically enhanced,
after which she smiled, smelling of hot blood and cyborg fluid.
Sister Lucia then approached the fallen
Becka, telling her that she was dying and that she could save her, but
there was a price. After Becka nodded in acceptance, Lucia told her to
close her eyes, and Lucia drained her of blood.
(2099 Unlimited#4/3 (fb) - BTS) -
Becka awakened as a vampire, and she took the name Lachryma.
Considering Lachryma to be her blood
child, Lucia dutifully tutored her in the ways of their kind, teaching
her of the alternative history of the world when a bestiary of beings
imagined only in myths and nightmares ranked with the noblest heroes and
the darkest villains.
A dedicated teacher, Lucia taught
Lachryma how to seduce the warm to survive and who to sup without
killing; how their form warped light (and to what extent); and how to
phase her form, at least into bat form.
Finally, Lucia asked Lachryma to join
her as a novice in the Sisterhood. However, Lachryma declined, choosing
instead to be a heroic figure and to prove that not all vampires were
evil.
Comments: Created
by Ian Edgington and David Klein.
Sister Lucia was
referrred to by Lachryma as her mother-in-darkness. Lachryma referred to
herself as Lucia's blood child and daughter-in-darkness. And they
referred to vampires as "the kind."
I honestly preferred
Reality-928 to all of the variant 2099 realities, and to the combined
2099 timeline. I'd like to see more of the classic 2099, timeline, but I
don't know if that's happening.
However, as Dracula and his world of vampires have
been featured prominenting in Reality-2099, I'm curious as to the fates
of Sister Lucia and the Sisterhood of Tears, as well as Lachryma, or
course!
Earth-616's version
of Sister Lucia was considered as a potential recruit for the Initiative
by Tony Stark in the Civil War: Battle Damage Report. Her real name was
also revealed in that issue.
That would seem to imply that Lucia dated back to at
least the heroic age, if not much earlier.
This profile was
completed 11/22/2025, but
its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th
anniversary 's celebratory event.
