CAP'N SHARR
Real Name: Unrevealed
Identity/Class: Extraterrestrial (apparently native to Nautikos) advanced weaponry-user
Occupation: Professional criminal
Group Membership: Leader of a
group of criminals
Affiliations: The members of the criminal gang
Enemies: Dawn
Greenwood, Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd)
presumably numerous people he looted in the past
Known Relatives: None
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Planet Nautikos, unidentified
star system, unidentified galaxy;
the fact that he referred to the people on the
surface as "top-siders" makes it appear that he dwelled underwater.
First Appearance: All-New Marvel Now! Point One#1/2 "Girl on Board" (March, 2014)
Powers/Abilities: A Selachian (see comments)-humanoid, Cap'n Sharr has leathery skin, a cartilaginous skeleton, sharp teeth and presumably a powerful bite.
He presumably can breathe in both air
and water.
He can likely swim at superhuman speed
(perhaps 10-60 mph), and he may or may not have some degree of
superhuman strength.
He wears metallic body armor of
unrevealed origin, but which granted him an unspecified increased
durability.
He was easily punched out by the Silver Surfer,
although the Surfer's vast power makes being defeated by him not much of
a weakness.
He carries a pair of plasmatic pistols and is served by a number of underlings.
History:
(All-New Marvel Now! Point One#1/2) - During the Centennial Festival of Lights on the planet Nautikos, as the visitors observed the Cosmic Rays, Cap'n Sharr cried out, "Listen up all ya top-siders! There's a price to see the show on Cap'n Sharr's docks. An' this's where ya pay up, sandhuggers! Give us yer pearls, yer gold, yer beads an' baubles! Or give us yer heads!"
Having shed his silvery skin for the festival, Norrin Radd, alongside his companion, Dawn Greenwood, confronted Sharr, offering him one chance to leave these people be. Sharr was amused by the "bald-pated mouth-breather," telling him that he must have traveled far in some "fancy wee ship," and that if he could afford that, he could afford to empty out his pockets.
Replying that his pockets were lined with silver, Norrin reclaimed his silver skin, and the Silver Surfer punched out Cap'n Sharr.
Recognizing the Surfer as Galactus' herald, Cap'n Sharr's men fired on him futilely, although ricochets threatened Dawn and some otter-like spectators, until the Surfer's board flew over and protected her.
The Surfer took out the rest of Cap'n Sharr's gang, although a stray shot wounded one of the cosmic rays. After healing the injured ray, the Surfer departed with Dawn.
I could not figure
out an animal adjective for sharks. My niece Savanna Drake, who is a
marine biology student at Auburn, suggested the names Elasmobranch or
Chondricthyian, with the latter being a larger category of cartilaginous
fish (that also includes the holocephali (chimeras or ghost sharks),
while the former is a sub-category that includes only modern sharks
(division Selachii) and batomorphs (which also includes rays, skates and
sawfish).
If we're considering modern sharks only, Savannah
confirmed that Selachii is as specific as we can get, and she suggested
"You could probably manipulate it since canine/feline/bovine are
modified versions of family names such as felinidae, bovidae, etc."
I may have made up the adjective
"Selachian," but I like it! You made it up, but you weren't the
first. There are shark-like aliens called Selachians
in Doctor Who's expanded media - Loki
