Powers/Abilities: Clarity absorbs huge amounts of information through his eyes and ears. He can watch and hear hundreds of news reports at once and understand everything, His mind is like a massive computer memory bank, absorbing information from thousands of sources/topics simultaneously.

    He listens to and can process the information coming from news and talk radio through hundreds of television sets at the same time with the volume all the way up. At the same time, he can communicate with others, hearing their speech and replying via posting text to a computer screen.

    His greatest power is the ability to see patterns in seemingly random bits of information. He allegedly knows all the answers, if he is asked the right questions.

    In the modern time period, Clarity did not speak directly. Greg and Lea spoke for him. He communicated to them via his keyboard.

    Back in the 17^th and 18^th centuries, at least, he spoke directly (he may have changed to only written communication at some point, or he may have only made the change with the advanced of computer technology in the latter half of the 20^th century).

    He was apparently unaging or otherwise extremely slowly aging (as he looked no different at age 30 than at 300). 

History:
(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1675 A.D.> - William Knoblach was born in the Virginia colony in America, the second child to Hans Knoblach, who had come from a wealthy German merchant family had been exposed to mysterious energy from a meteorite 15 years before in Hamburg, Germany; and to Gertrude Knoblach, the daughter of an English lord.

(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1680 A.D.> - Gertrude gave birth to her third and final child, Fiona. 

(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1683-4-ish A.D.> - William, Fiona, and Gertrude played on a hill together.

(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1692 A.D.> - William's oldest sister, Gloria went to visit her mother's relatives, living in Salem, Massachusetts. She was accused by one of the village children of being a witch.

    Gloria was judged and hanged in June of that year.

(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1695 A.D.> - Apologies for the Salem Witch Trials were sent to the relatives of those executed. It was little comfort to Gloria's parents and siblings: Their daughter was dead, and no apology could bring her back.

    Fiona was so enraged over the election that her parents feared for her sanity and confined her to the family mansion for a year. Her only visitor was a minister who read to her from the Bible.

(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1700 A.D.> - William traveled to Europe on a business trip, selling tobacco for his father. 

    However, he remained overseas, allegedly studying the occult in India or Tibet.

    During that period, he changed his name to Clarity. 

(Cable I#93 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Clarity gained the assistants Calvin and Sarah, who insisted on accompanying him on his travels.

    Clarity referred to them as his ravens.

(Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z Update#4: Dark Mother profile) - Fiona arranged her parents' death in a boat sinking.

(Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1705 A.D.> - Hans and Gertrude died in a family boating accident; only Fiona survived. She inherited an estate worth millions.

    Fiona insisted that their parents had died in a boating accident, after which she advised Clarity that, like he had done, she had disposed of the name their parents had given her, and telling him to henceforth address her as Finality.

    Clarity agreed to this and then asked about the estate, and she told him that everything had been willed to her.

    Finality then asked Clarity about his bringing bodyguards, suggesting that one might think that she did not trust him; he advised her that Calvin and Sarah insisted on accompanying him everywhere. 

    Finality subsequently asked if his powers continued to grow, and he confirmed that he analyzed knowledge as quickly as he received it, and that newer technology should increase that speed: No event would happen in the world without him knowing about it.

    Finality replied that this was an interesting but minor ability, just as he was an interesting but minor man.

    She then apprised him of her plans for women to replace men in positions of power and that by studying the future she would change the present.

    Clarity warned Finality that with one word from him, Sarah -- who had a garrote in her hands -- would put an end to insane dreams forever, but Clarity replied that she had foreseen this and had gunmen in the other rooms who would kill Clarity and his companions if she tried.
    When Clarity countered that she would die as well, Finality suggested a truce, and Clarity agreed.

    Clarity then asked why she had called him there as -- with their parents dead -- there shared nothing beyond their curious abilities. Finality told him that she hoped he would use his talent for her; intrigued, he asked what she meant. Finality told him that while in most realities, she succeeded, she saw a few end with a man in shadow, sometimes accompanied by a young woman, and beyond that, she saw only darkness. 

    Finality then offered Clarity transportation, but, considering the transportation she had arranged for their parents, he chose to let Calvin and Sarah handle the details. 

    When she asked about her visions, Clarity told her he suspected that as she grew older, this man would occupy more and more of her possible futures. Although he did not know who the man was (he was seen only in shadow, but it was pretty clearly Cable, and Finality confirmed this in Cable I#95), but that the man was her nemesis, and that the darkness afterward was death.

(Cable I#80 (fb) - BTS) - In modern times, husband and wife Greg and Lea worked for Clarity for thirty years, although the origin of his abilities remained a mystery even to them.

(Cable I#80 (fb) - BTS) - Clarity worked through a third party, never -- beyond Greg and/or Lea -- meeting nor speaking with others directly..

(Cable I#82 (fb) - BTS) - Clarity had an "information for sale" website.

(Cable I#80 (fb) - BTS) - Newspaper reporter Irene Merryweather sometimes used Clarity as a source specializing in way-out subjects.

    Via Greg and/or Lea, Clarity agreed to meet with Cable under specific circumstances, which they related to Irene.

(Cable I#80 - BTS) - Although Cable was not comfortable with the idea, he and Irene waited at the specified location, from which Greg picked them up in a limousine with tinted windows.
    Noting the tinted windows and soundproof vehicle, Cable commented that Clarity did not seem to be the trusting type, and he asked if there would be anesthetic gas coming through the vents, but Greg replied that that would be rude.
    After they arrived at a warehouse, Lea opened the door, introduced herself, and asked them to follow her and she would escort them to her employer.

    Handing Cable and Irene each a pair of visors and headphones, she told them that they would muffle the noise (and dull the lighting, presumably), she also told them not to speak and that seeing was believing.

(Cable I#80) - As Cable and Irene entered with Lea, Clarity listened to hundred of television programs simultaneously, with the noise being almost deafening to the others despite their headphones.

    Despite the previous instructions not to speak, Cable commented that Clarity was the world's first digital man, Irene noted stated that their would be no more secrets in the world, and Lea added that his greatest abiilty was to see patterns in random bits of information.

    Cable asked if they would have to go on television to communicate with him, but Lea explained that Clarity could hear everything he said and that Clarity would reply to him via a computer monitor. Clarity then greeted Cable, thanking him for coming, and telling Cable that he was something of enigma and that he wanted to learn more about his life.

    Just then, however, the Aentaros-possessed Blockade burst through the wall to slay Cable, and almost immediately thereafter Captain Holdyne and a group of warriors from Reality-2775's Ranshi Empire arrived and assaulted Cable as well.

(Cable I#81 - BTS) - Having appeared between seconds, the Ranshi transported Cable up to their Conquest ship, but then they transported him back to the instant he had been removed after realizing that he was the nexus being that would determine the fate of their future reality.

(Cable I#81) - After a fierce struggle just outside of Clarity's chambers, Cable paralyzed Blockade from the waist down, after which Aentaros caused Blockade to twist his own neck around until it broke, killing Blockade and liberating Aentaros to possess another.

(Cable I#81 - BTS) - With the room having recorded the entire conflict, Clarity analyzed the battle as well as searched their database for mentions of the Undyiing. Lea informed Cable and Irene of Clarity's activities.

(Cable I#81 - BTS) -  Greg and Lea spoke for Clarity to Cable, noting similar murderers throughout the world and across history (longer than recorded history), concluding that they were caused by a quintet of beings known as the Undying. They further noted that the only way to stop them was by killing the host but that no one knew how to destroy these fiends without shape.

    Greg subsequently dropped off Cable and Irene, telling them that Clarity would contact them if he learned anything more about the Undying, and he confirmed that Cable and Irene would do the same. Cable instructed Greg to keep his boss safe as he had made some powerful enemies that day, and he further told Greg that Clarity was an interesting individual and that he looked forward to talking to him again.
    After Cable advised Greg to stay alert, Greg assured him that he would do his best, as would Lea, as that was there job.

    Irene subsequently asked Cable while he did not tell Clarity about Harmony or about what had happened when he seemed to blink out for an instant before the fight with Blockade. Cable told her that there was no need, as he could handle time travel problems on his own.

(Cable I#81 - BTS) - Outside of the lair of Azazel (secretly the scorekeeper in the genocidal game of the Undying) in the Sinai Peninsula, archeologist Professor Berger uploaded jpg and wav files on Azazel to his web page.

(Cable I#82 (fb) - BTS) - Clarity discovered the information about Azazel on Berger's website.

(Cable I#82 - BTS) - Key -- an agent of the Semijan-possessed Randall Shire -- secretly submitted information to Clarity's website about his master's origins without directly defying his master's wishes,

(Cable I#82 - BTS) - Cable freed an Aentaros-possessed Irene Merryweather by inducing cardiac arrest, which freed her from Aentaros, and then saving her via CPR.

(Cable I#82 (fb) - BTS) - Via police reports, emergency listings, hospital admissions, etc., Clarity learned of Irene's condition and hospitalization at St. Clare's. He informed Lea and sent her to bring Cable to him.

(Cable I#82 (fb) - BTS) - Aentaros possessed Domino (Neena Thurman).

(Cable I#82 - BTS) - Lea told Cable that Clarity wanted to see him and that Clarity had found Azazel.

(Cable I#82) - When they arrived in Clarity's quarters, Greg shared that Clarity had found images and audio files about Azazel's sanctuary on Berger's website. While papers filed by Berger and his colleague, Professor Henry Oxton (whom Azazel had slain), were extremely vague, Greg shared that they could pinpont Azazel's location in a few hours via satellite scans. Lea additionally shared that Berger's files noted that the doors to Azazel's sanctuary were made of an unknown metal that a laser did not even scratch.

    Greg subsequently detailed information sent from Key -- "a super-hacker anxious to stop Randall Shire" -- regarding Shire and his possession by Semijan and his rise to power.

    The Harmonists of the 41st century of Reality-22073 then transported Cable to their ship.

(Cable I#82 - BTS) - Cable communicated with representatives of both the Ranshi Empire of Reality-2775, who told him that if Cable saved Shire from an assassin that night that Shire would establish the Ranshi Empire, ruling Earth and the the Milky Way Galaxy; and the Harmonists of Reality-22073, in which the assassin slew Shire, but he was martyred, leading his religion, Harmony, to prosper, although mutants were prevented/outlawed.

    Regardless, Cable learned that Domino (Neena Thurman) was to be the assassin.

(Cable I#83) - After Shire headed toward the stage with his other agent, Wall, Key was approached by Lea and Greg, who had easily bypassed security. Following Lea's introduction, Greg confirmed Key's question that they could help him. Lea told him to just watch and wait for now, as they had plans in place for their associate (Cable) to stop Semijan/Shire that night. Greg then added that afterward, Cable would need Key's help; Greg asked Key to listen to Cable's plans and then make a decision.

    Cable subsequently met with Wall and Key, and they agreed to help him against the Undying.

(Cable I#84 (fb) - BTS) - Via information from Clarity, Cable -- joined by Key, Wall, and X-Men Beast (Hank McCoy) and Jean Grey -- traveled to the door of Azazel and met with Professor Berger and local Sheik Hamid.

(Cable I#84 - BTS) - With their stored preferred hosts within Azazel released from stasis, the Undying attacked the invaders, while Shire, Domino, and others previously possessed by the Undying were freed.

    Via information downloaded from Azazel, Key related the history of the Serayn and the Undying and then adjusted Azazel's settings: As the Undying had called humanity insects, Azazel would now only be able to transfer the Undying into cockroaches; and not just for 10,000 years but until the last cockroach on Earth died.

    The Undying's hosts perished soon thereafter, and Key noted that he had locked the settings so that once they left, they could not be changed "for all eternity." Cable and Jean Grey then caused a rockslide to cover the door and prevent others from accessing Azazel.

Mutants or not...

• Clarity and Finality were defined as mutants in-story.
• It used to be a pretty standard origin for mutants that the parents had been mutated by radiation, which is why the children were mutants. Professor X and the Beast are perfect examples.
• Franklin Richards used to be a mutant, but the current policy is that he used his cosmic energies to make it appear that he was genetically a mutant.
• However, I don't see anyone taking away the mutant status of Professor X or the Beast...
• So, anyway, who knows in the current mutant status quo whether Clarity and Finality are/were mutants...and we don't know whether Gloria had powers...
  

    All the televisions are a bit of a topical reference, as in more modern technology, Clarity would be monitoring webcasts, podcasts, social media, and television and radio.

    Clarity was more involved with the Undying, but you can learn more about the other half of the story from the alternate futures associated with the Ranshi Empire and the Harmonists

    It's interesting to note that, as is clearly seen in the digital scans, the dates from Cable I#94 were written in a different font (like handwritten, as opposed to computer-programmed or other more professional lettering) and presumably at a later date than the rest of the text. I don't know the significance of that, other than that it was likely left blank initially and then added in later date, or the original text was deleted and re-written by someone else.

    I am curious whether Clarity's earlier agents, Calvin and Sarah, were not actually younger versions of Greg and Lea. Other than being Cable's agents and having similar features, builds, and hair, there's nothing more solid to confirm this, so I will leave them as separate for now.

    Finality/Dark Mother will get her own profiles eventually, but not for awhile. I feel like there are more identified descendants of Fiona, but I will re-review the issues and add them when I eventually get to that profile.

(Cable I#82 (fb) - BTS) - Aentaros possessed Domino (Neena Thurman). (Cable I#82) - Lea revealed her presence, delivering chocolate she had brought for Irene and noting -- when Cable told her he had not heard or seen her enter -- that she was like that: Quiet. She subsequently told Cable that Clarity wanted to see him.     As they headed out to her car, she explained how she had located him, telling him "Forget privacy. There's no such thing." She then told him that Clarity had found Azazel.     After they arrived in Clarity's quarters, Greg shared that Clarity had found images and audio files on Azazel's sanctuary on Berger's website and that they could pinpont Azazel's location in a few hours via satellite scans. Lea additionally shared that Berger's files noted that the doors to Azazel's sanctuary were made of an unknown metal that a laser did not even scratch.     Greg subsequently detailed information sent from Key -- "a super-hacker anxious to stop Randall Shire -- regarding Shire and his possession by Semijan and his rise to power.     The Harmonists of the 41st century of Reality-22073 then transported Cable to their ship. (Cable I#82 - BTS) - Cable learned that Domino (Neena Thurman) was to be the assassin. (Cable I#83) - After Shire headed toward the stage with his other agent, Wall, Key was approached by Lea and Greg, who had easily bypassed security. Introducing herself and her husband, Lea noted that they worked for Clarity and that they could help him. Lea told him to just watch and wait for now, as they had plans in place for their associate (Cable) to stop Semijan/Shire that night. Afterward, Cable would need Key's help; they asked Key to listen to Cable's plans and then make a decision. (Cable I#83 - BTS) - When Domino attacked, Cable used Blaquesmith's weapon to immobilize/incapacitate Domino, with Aentaros trapped within her. Semijan/Shire then verbally expressed his hatred for Aentaros/Domino, and his voice was amplified via microphone. His message of hatred amplified by his own powers led the crowd to both hate him and to be freed from his influence. Key was freed from Semijan/Shire's influence as well (see comments).     Cable subsequently met with Wall and Key, and they agreed to help him against the Undying. (Cable I#84 (fb) - BTS) - Via information from Clarity, Cable -- joined by Key, Wall, and X-Men Beast (Hank McCoy) and Jean Grey -- traveled to the door of Azazel and met with Professor Berger and local Sheik Hamid. (Cable I#84 - BTS) - Key reprogrammed Azazel, trapping the Undying within cockroaches for as long as cockroaches existed on Earth. (Cable I#91 (fb)) <7 days prior to the main story> - As Finality sent two of her sevenn to lead an attack in force against Clarity, Lea noted that their long truce with the Dark Mother was over and that she obviously feared Clarity.     Replying via his keyboard, Clarity noted that it was time for them to depart: He had always wanted to visit Australia, and now seemed like the right moment. (Cable I#91 (fb) - BTS) - Lea, Greg, and Clarity departed his base. --Cable I#80 Note: Lea has dark hair (shown as both black and brown in continuous appearances) and blue eyes        Unfortunately, Greg and Lea did not receive last names...they have enough appearances to have their own profiles, but not having a last name is what caused me to ultimately only include them as sub-profiles for now. Also that I spent close to a year covering these characters from the Undying arc, and I was ready to move on.      If you want to convert these sub-profiles into full profiles, please feel free to do so!      As I discussed elsewhere, I am curious whether Clarity's earlier agents, Calvin and Sarah, were not actually younger versions of Greg and Lea. Other than being Cable's agents and having similar features, builds, and hair, there's nothing more solid to confirm this, so I will leave them as separate for now.      Greg and Leah are also shown in the main profile image associated with Cable I#91.

(Cable I#93 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Clarity gained the assistants Calvin and Sarah, who insisted on accompanying him on his travels.     Clarity referred to them as his ravens. (Cable I#94 (fb) - BTS) <1705 A.D.> - Hans and Gertrude died in a family boating accident; only Fiona survived. She inherited an estate worth millions. (Cable I#93 (fb) - BTS) - Hearing of his parents' deaths, Clarity -- accompanied by Calvin and Sarah -- returned home as quickly as he could. (Cable I#93 (fb)) - Calvin and Sara stood silently behind Clarity as he met with his sister Fiona.     Finality asked Clarity about his bringing bodyguards, noting that one might think that she did not trust him; he advised her that Calvin and Sarah insisted on accompanying him everywhere.     After Finality discussed her plans for women to replace men in positions of power and that by studying the future she would change the present, Clarity advised Finality that with one word from him, Sarah -- who had a garrote in her hands -- would put an end to insane dreams forever.      However, Finality replied that she had foreseen this and had gunmen in the other rooms who would kill Clarity and his companions if she tried.     When Clarity countered that she would did as well, Finality suggested a truce, and Clarity agreed.

.     Finality then offered Clarity transportation, but, considering the transportation she had arranged for their parents, he chose to let Calvin and Sarah handle the details.  --Cable I#93 Note:  As I discussed elsewhere, I am curious whether Calvin and Sarah, were not actually younger versions of Greg and Lea.      Other than being Cable's agents and having similar builds and hair color, there's nothing more solid to confirm this, so I will leave them as separate for now.
