Powers/Abilities: The bloodhounds are superhumanly strong (perhaps lifting 1000-2000 lbs.) and durable (they could withstand a lot of punishment, taking punches from or being smashed into the ground or through walls by Boom Boy). They seemed more vulnerable to flames than to blunt force assaults.
    The Master of the Hunt said that they had iron limbs, perhaps indicating that they arms and legs were entirely bionic, or perhaps they were just strong/tough/durable like iron.

    They have superhuman reflexes and speed, and they are particularly skilled at striking swiftly and then moving into shadows to evade pursuers and/or to ambush others. 

and enhanced senses. They almost certainly have enhanced auditory (hearing) and olfactory (smell) senses, and likely enhanced nocturnal vision (which would presumably be due to increased numbers of and/or improved function of the cones in the retinae), perhaps extending into the infra-red spectrum.

bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr4p2-horseback    They have enlarged canine teeth, especially the mandibular canines, with reportedly steel jaws. Their teeth and bite have been described as acidic; they are apparently corrosive, and the combination of their jaw strength and the acid is strong enough to penetrate/pain the stone-like Boom Boy). They also have sharp claws.

    They also experienced equestrians, and each apparently uses a steed to travel relatively longer distances than they could cover on foot. 

    Apparently unable to speak, they could vocalize sounds, just as "Hheeeerh!"

Traits: They are savage fighters, fiercely loyal to one another. They previously served the Master of the Hunt, but his willingness to sacrifice them to save himself led them to turn against him.

bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr3-entrancebloodhounds-93060-moth-fr4p1(Freex#5 (fb) - BTS) - The engineers of Biotex combined man, dog, and technology to create the Bloodhounds, who possessed heightened senses, iron limbs, steel jaws, and acid teeth. 

    They were placed into the service of another being Biotex had mutated, the Master of the Hunt.

(Freex#3 (fb) - BTS) - After Pressure/Valerie aided Rush in destroying a Biotex laboratory, Biotex sent the Master of the Hunt and his Bloodhounds to take down the Freex. 

(Freex#3 - BTS) - The San Francisco Police Department's Captain Jacob Rome (Rush's father, although Jacob didn't know it at the time) was given orders to stand down (not to try to apprehend Pressure and Rush.

(Freex#3) - The bloodhounds kept their distance as the Master of the Hunt met with Rome, assuring him they would clean up the biological accident quickly and instructing him to leave he and his agents to their work. 

    Seeing shadowy figures approaching, Rush prepared to confront them, but Plug (occupying a robot) stopped him and then saved him from a number of darts fired by the Master. 

    As Plug, Pressure, and Rush fled, the malleable Anything slipped under the Master and Bloodhound's feet, tripping them up while Boom Boy/Ray and Sweetface/Angela pulled their allies into a tree. The Master then sent his Bloodhounds to locate their targets, and Rush parted ways with the Freex.bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr4p2-hheeeerh

(Freex#4) - After one of the Bloodhounds pointed out the Freex by an electrical tower, the Bloodhounds joined the Master in pursuing them on horseback. 

    As they got closer, the pursuing group hid in bushes, after which the Master sent the Bloodhounds to capture the robot-form used by Plug who had been researching them electronically.

    Hearing the Bloodhounds' baying, Pressure rushed to engage them, but she was swiftly struck down a blast, almost certainly from the Master of the Hunt. bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr5p1-sf

    As a Bloodhound picked up Plug's robot body, Ray rushed to engage the Bloodhounds, punching away one of them, but the other one of the Bloodhounds bit him in the neck, instilling a corrosive +/- toxic substance even though his stone-like skin. 

    Sweetface pulled that Bloodhound away with a tendril, but the Bloodhound subsequently tore it in half. With Angela in pain, Ray punched down that Bloodhound, but then passed out from the bite. Anything pulled Ray back to the others, and they elected to flee, leaving Plug's robotic body in the Master of the Hunt's hands (hoping he could return to his organic body if needed).

    As a Bloodhound rubbed its injured and bloody jaw, the Master of the Hunt acknowledged that Ray was strong and would have killed 10 humans with a punch like that. He continued that while the punch had injured the Bloodhound, it (the Bloodhound) had still brought him what he needed. The Master then instructed the Bloodhounds to continue the hunt while he connected Plug's robot form to a power line, learning that he was under the influence of the Death Angel.

    Hearing the name "Death Angel" for the being with whom he had been communing, Plug returned his consciousness to the robot, but the Master had the Bloodhounds restrain the robotic form, taking it away from the tower.bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr5p10-sacrifice

    After the other Freex were taken in by Ruby, the Master of the Hunt and the Bloodhounds (one of whom carried Plug) ambushed them in Ruby's home, with the Master shooting Ruby.

(Freex#5) - As one of the Bloodhounds held Angela by the neck, the Master of the Hunt taunted to them to use their powers more quickly than a Bloodhound's claw.

    When Plug's robot body broke free from the Bloodhound restraining it, the Master tore it apart. The Master then gave a gun to a confused Angela-holding Bloodhound, who held it to Angela's throat with its other hand. 

    Still active, Plug turned out the lights, and Angela's tendrils tossed the Bloodhound holding her across the room, after which Ray punched it just before Pressure set it afire. Another Bloodhound struck down Pressure from behind, and then Anything wrapped that or another Bloodhound.

    A third Bloodhound painfully throttled and/or scratched Ray, who then smashed it the ground.

    The fourth Bloodhound leapt on Ray's back whle the one Ray had smashed joined it in assaulting Ray. The Bloodhound engaging Anything found its claws useless against him, but the Master shot Anything with a gas pellet that agonized him.

    As Anything created an aperture to purge thus vapor and then attacked the Master in a large serpentine form, flames spread through Ruby's apartment.

    The Master called to his Bloodhounds to destroy Anthing's brain, and the one previously engaging him began painfully tearing at Anything's head. 

bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr5p22-attack-moth    Ray smashed down the two Bloodhounds fighting him (throwing one into the wall) and leapt to Anything's rescue, but the Master fired pellets into his back that incapacitated him with an electrical discharge. 

    As Pressure challenged the Master, he threw a Bloodhound into the path of her fiery blast (which clearly angered the Bloodhound that had been thrown into the wall), and its mass continued on to smash into her.

    When he pulled his gun and prepared to finish off Pressure, Plug, returning in his human form, smashed a car into the building, causing the Master to stumble back into the flames.

bloodhounds-93060-moth-fr5p22-into-flames    The Master collapsed in terror as his uniform caught fire, and when he pulled his badly-burned form to his feet and targeted Pressure again, one of the Bloodhounds (presumably the one Ray had thrown into the wall) attacked him in response to his having thrown one of their number into Valerie's blast earlier.

    That Bloodhound and the Master fell back into the flames, and the Master's agonized cries eventually ceased.

(Freex#15 / Ultraverse Premiere#9/3 - BTS) - In the Denver suburbs, the father of Ultra Cecilia Chun called unspecificied authorities for aid in dealing with his daughter's uncontrolled explosive powers. Whoever received the call ordered the Hounds to be sent.

(Ultraverse Premiere#9/3) - A pair of Bloodhounds soon dove through Cecilia's window, grabbed her, covered her mouth, and began to drag her away. As she struggled not to be afraid, Cecilia unleashed an explosive wave of force, knocking away her attackers. Realizing that suppressing her feelings was what caused the "breakdown," Cecilia consciously caused another explosion, stunning the Bloodhounds while she fled.

    The use of only two Bloodhounds in Freex#15 / Ultraverse Premiere#9/3 seemed fitting, as three of the four Bloodhounds were last seen in flames. We don't know that any of them perished, but perhaps a couple did. 
    That being said, we don't know that there weren't more than four Bloodhounds originally, nor do we know that more weren't created after the conflict with the Freex.
    We don't know for sure that the two Bloodhounds seen in Ultraverse Premiere#9/3 are the same ones who appeared in Freex#3-5.

    The image on the cover of Free#4 (seen to the left here) did not occur in the comics (at least not on-panel). We saw a Bloodhound hold a gun/blaster to Angela/Sweetface, but we never saw any of them use a gun/blaster.
    Nonetheless, it is one of the best images of a full body Bloodhound, so I'm including it here.

    It took me awhile (almost the completion of this profile, to realize that the bloodhounds didn't just vary in appearance between artists: There are some that are more brachycephalic (short-snouted, like an English Bulldog) and others that are more dolicocephalic (lung-muzzled, like German Shepherd).

    Pressure (Valerie Sharp) was supposed to have steam powers, but she was frequently shown causing fires and fiery explosions.

    This profile was completed 05/01/2022, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event to represent Freex.
