History:

(Marvel Apes I#2/1 - BTS) - Wolverine is a long-lived mutant whose violent past and memory loss left much of his early life in mystery.

(Marvel Apes I#3/1 (fb) - BTS) - During World War II in December 1944, Wolverine encountered the original Captain America during a mission, and their clash left Captain America with a scar on his arm. Wolverine later blamed the incident on Captain America, believing it was his fault for failing to tell anyone he had gone undercover as a Nazi.

(Marvel Apes I#2/1 - BTS) - In modern times Wolverine became part of the X-Apes, serving alongside other mutant primates such as Rogue and Storm.

(Marvel Apes I#3/3 (fb) - BTS) - The Beyonder became fascinated with the nature of simian heroism, curious about what it truly meant to be simian he traveled to Earth. His arrival quickly escalated into violence when his unstable emotions and immense cosmic power threatened the world.

(Marvel Apes I#3/3) - Wolverine and the X-Apes joined a large force of assembled heroes, including Iron Mandrill, Captain America, Dazzler, Magneto and the New Mutants, to oppose the Beyonder. Their coordinated assault pushed the Beyonder to the brink, and Iron Mandrill eventually unleashed a powerful energy blast that helped tip the battle, leading to the Beyonder's defeat.

(Marvel Apes I#3/2 - BTS) - After learning that the X-Mansion had been overrun by Apeocalypse and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the X-Simians were forced to scatter. Wolverine, Colobus and Bishape returned from a mission in Wookanda and moved to reclaim the mansion.

(Marvel Apes I#2/1 - BTS) - Wolverine and the X-Apes became part of the Outcasts, which emerged as a loose resistance within the simian world, formed by super-powered apes who had learned a truth most refused to face, the heroic Captain America was no patriot at all, but a powerful über-vampire (secretly the undead Baron Blood in disguise). The Outcasts saw the danger and united in secret to oppose the growing corruption within their world's heroes, operating from the Sanctum Sanctorum, the former home of the late Doctor Strange, their sanctuary was mystically concealed within a shared memory and could only be reached through the Monkey's Paw. To most simians, the Outcasts were little better than the criminals they opposed and were actively hunted by "Captain America's" Ape-Vengers.

(Marvel Apes I#2/1) - Out for a sandwich in Monkhattan, Wolverine was spotted by two Ape-Vengers, Speedball and Ape X, who were having lunch with the Earth-616's Gibbon. Tasked by Captain America with capturing Outcasts for his "rehabilitation" program, the two Ape-Vengers quickly changed into their costumes and followed the mutant. The Gibbon reluctantly trailed after them, knowing Wolverine to be a true hero in his home reality. However, unbeknownst to the Gibbon, Speedball was secretly part of the Outcasts and planned to sabotage Ape X's attempt to capture Wolverine. Ape X intercepted Wolverine, prompting the mutant to unsheathe his claws and demand to know when they would finally get off his back. Just as Ape X was about to fire his energy bolts, the Gibbon shoved Wolverine into the bushes, making it appear as though he had clumsily tried to help in the fight but accidentally let Wolverine escape. It was in that moment that Speedball realized the Outcasts could trust the Gibbon.

Later that night, Wolverine was present at the Sanctum Sanctorum when Speedball brought Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh and the Gibbon of Earth-616 to their hidden refuge to safe them from "Captain America", the Fantastic Four and Ape-Vengers after being accused for killing Reed Richards.

(Marvel Apes I#3/1) - Shocked to see the Outcasts assembled in full, the Gibbon attempted to flee. Pursued by several supersimians, he ran past Wolverine and accidentally fell into the Dark Dimension, where he was surrounded by the dangerous Mindless Ones. Speedball quickly rescued him, after which the confusion was cleared and it was revealed that the Outcasts already knew Captain America was actually the undead Baron Blood in disguise. Realizing that the true Captain America was likely still trapped in ice, held in suspended animation for decades as on his own Earth-616, the Gibbon proposed rescuing him in order to stop Blood.

To do so, Wolverine joined a small group consisting of Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh, the Gibbon, Speedball, Dr. Druid, and Dr. Bruce Bananner (temporarily released from the Huhr's guise by Dr. Druid's Monkey's Paw). They took an aircraft toward the North Sea, where they believed Captain America might be located. Near the suspected site, Wolverine bluntly shoved Banner out of the aircraft, fully aware that the impact would cause him to revert back into the Huhr. With the Huhr's strength, the group quickly located Captain America trapped inside a massive block of ice. Noticing the scars on Captain America's arm from their wartime skirmish, Wolverine assured the others that this was the real Captain America.

Before the team could thaw him out, they were attacked by the vampiric Sub-Mariner and Red Raven, loyal followers of Baron Blood. Wolverine stabbed Namor in the chest with his metal claws, but it failed to stop him, and Namor nearly killed both Wolverine and Speedball. Namor was suddenly halted by the real Captain America, who broke free from the ice and somehow donned his classic costume. Shocked by Captain America's return, the vampiric Sub-Mariner fled. In the aftermath, the heroes realized that Red Raven had escaped with Dr. Fitzhugh during the fight. Determined to stop Baron Blood once and for all, the group, now led by the real Captain America, set course for Monkhattan.

(Marvel Apes I#4/1 - BTS) - Wolverine was chosen to be part of a strike team to oppose Baron Blood who'd convinced the Ape-Vengers and Fantastic Four to prepare an interdimensional invasion on Earth-616 from the Fantastic Four headquarters.

(Marvel Apes I#4/1) - During that very night, as Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh was forced to activate the portal to Earth-616. Just as the portal was to be opened, Wolverine and other outcasts, arrived in force. Wolverine was seen fighting Spider-Monkey until the original Captain America, revealed himself and exposed Baron Blood's deception. When the vampiric Invaders appeared, the Outcasts allied with the Ape-Vengers and Fantastic Four to battle Blood and his forces. In the climactic battle Fitzhugh and the Gibbon returned to their home-reality with the gravely wounded Speedball, after which Wolverine jumped the vampiric Toro and presumably killed him after which Ape X slew Baron Blood, destroying the portal in the process. The blast tore apart part of the Fantastic Four headquarters but the heroes emerged victorious.

(Marvel Zombies: Evil Evolution#1) - Wolverine was present when the Fantastic Four and Ape-Vengers rebuilt their dimensional portal and prepared to retrieve their wayward teammate Speedball, intending to punish him for what they saw as a betrayal after he cooperated with humans. Before they could activate the device, a second portal abruptly tore open in midair. From it emerged Gorilla Girl (Fahnbullah Eddy), sent from another reality where an ape world had fallen to superhuman zombies. Determined to prevent Earth-8101 from connecting to that zombie dimension, she used the enchanted monkey-wrench taken from the Wrencher, who had been killed by a zombie, to destroy the Ape-Vengers' portal. Unaware of the danger she had averted, the Ape-Vengers did not realize that Gorilla Girl had just saved their entire reality from connecting to a zombie dimension.

(Secret Wars: Battleworld I#3/1) - When the Multiverse was destroyed following the incursion of planets, Doctor Doom, using the Beyonders' powers, created Battleworld a patchwork of different realities. Mojo, the media-obsessed tyrant of the Mojoverse, gathered dozens of Wolverines from across Battleworld to stage a new violent program. Among them was Wolverine of Earth-8101, who clashed with a Wolverine resembling Nick Fury. Ultimately, the feral Wolverines turned on a monk-like, peaceful Wolverine as Mojo observed the spectacle.

Both Marvel Apes I#2 (December, 2008) and Marvel Apes I#3 (December, 2008) included a Bonobo-Pen Bulletin letter page that established that several Marvel Apes variant covers at the time were part of their reality with fun little solicitations of those issues. In issue 2 Wolverine was mentioned in the solicitation for The New Apevengers#1. The supposed cover of this fake issue was in fact the real cover to Marvel Apes I#1 which featured Wolverine alongside, Power Monk alongside Spider-Monkette, Spider-Monkey, Iron Mandrill and Captain America. However the narratives seen on covers and variant covers aren't necessarily a reflection of what happened on Earth-8101, especially in this case it's good to mention that there was no New Apevengers team consisting of these members at the time on Earth-8101 as these individuals were on opposing sides. In issue 3 Wolverine was mentioned in the solicitation for Ape-Vengers/Invaders#1 and the Uncanny X-Simians#18.

Monkey Wolverine also appear on three different variant covers: Anita Blake: the Laughing Corpse#1, Ron Lim cover (August, 2008), Marvel Apes I#1 (Ramon Bachs cover), Wolverine: First Class#6, Salva Espin cover (August, 2008). I've included the Salva Espin cover to this profile.

Marvel Apes I#2 (September, 2008) called the X-Men of Earth-8101 the X-Apes, they were previously known as the X-Simians in a back-up feature from Marvel Apes I#1. Since "X-Apes" is what was used in the actual story itself we'll use that in the profile.

The Marvel Apes limited series (2008) was conceived as a playful companion to the earlier Marvel Zombies phenomenon. Following the unexpected commercial success of Zombies, Marvel looked to replicate the formula by reimagining its superheroes in another offbeat, high-concept alternate reality. Writer Karl Kesel, inspired by Silver Age whimsy and the classic "What If?" tradition, pitched a world where Marvel's heroes and villains were evolved primates rather than humans. The project was greenlit as a four-issue miniseries, launching with a tongue-in-cheek promotional campaign that leaned into its absurdity while still delivering a surprisingly dark, satirical storyline. The series spawned several tie-ins and one-shots, positioning the Ape-Verse as both a parody of and homage to Marvel's multiverse storytelling.

Earth-8101 is the main Marvel Apes reality, but there are three others as well:
  - Earth-81218, possible future of Earth-8101 set in the year 2099.
  - Earth-90543, monkey Speedball was send back to his world and branded a traitor by the Ape-Vengers. This was a bad dream of the Gibbon.
  - Earth-95019, diverged from Earth-8101 when zombies invaded their world. The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z Update #5 indicates that the timelines designated Earth-95019 and Earth-21050 were seemingly erased when Earth-616's Gorilla Girl went back to the moment the portal was opened and destroyed it.
