Powers/Abilities: Elizabeth Braddock is a mutant primate with powerful telepathic abilities, capable of reading minds, projecting thoughts, creating psychic illusions, and controlling or stunning others mentally. She can presumably manifest her telepathic energy as a "psychic knife," the focused totality of her telepathic power, which can incapacitate or kill opponents by disrupting their neural pathways.
As Captain Baboon, Betsy was imbued with the mystical power of the Amulet of Right, granting her enhanced strength, durability, and flight. She served as both protector of Britain and defender of the multiversal Captain Britain Corps.

Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 140 lbs.)
Eyes: White, no visible iris

History:
(Marvel Apes I#2/1 - BTS) - The mutant telepath Psylocke became part of the X-Apes at an unrevealed point in time, serving alongside other mutant primates such as Storm and Cyclops.
(Marvel Apes I#2/1 - BTS) - Psylocke and the X-Apes became part of the Outcasts, which emerged as a loose resistance within the simian world, formed by super-powered apes who had learned a truth most refused to face, the heroic Captain America was no patriot at all, but a powerful über-vampire (secretly the undead Baron Blood in disguise). The Outcasts saw the danger and united in secret to oppose the growing corruption within their world's heroes, operating from the Sanctum Sanctorum, the former home of the late Doctor Strange, their sanctuary was mystically concealed within a shared memory and could only be reached through the Monkey's Paw. To most simians, the Outcasts were little better than the criminals they opposed and were actively hunted by "Captain America's" Ape-Vengers.
(Marvel Apes I#2/1) - Psylocke was present at the Sanctum Sanctorum when Speedball brought Dr. Fiona Fitzhugh and the Gibbon of Earth-616 to their hidden refuge to safe them from "Captain America", the Fantastic Four and Ape-Vengers after being accused for killing Reed Richards.
(Excalibur IV#15) - Saturnyne, Majestrix of Otherworld, had orchestrated a contest between the mutant nation of Krakoa and the Arakko mutants, with champions from each side battling across the realms of Otherworld. But when the evil Annihilation unleashed her Amenthi daemon horde against the Starlight Citadel, Saturnyne panicked and sought to restore the long-destroyed Captain Britain Corps (annihilated during the incursions preceding Secret Wars). Believing that restoring the shattered Starlight Sword would restore all versions of Brian Braddock she still loved, she was instead confronted with Betsy Braddock as the one attuned to the blade. Consequently, her summoning created not Brians, but a multiversal host of Betsy Braddocks, each bearing the mantle of Captain Britain, who together became the new Captain Britain Corps. As such Elizabeth Braddock of Earth-8101 became her realities newest Captain Baboon when answering the call like so many others.
(X of Swords: Destruction) - Captain Baboon was one of the many new Corps members who heeded the call and appeared on Otherworld to protect the Starlight Citadel from Annihilation's daemon horde. Not much later the Corps were joined by numerous mutant allies and friends of the X-Men joining the large scale attack. Together, Krakoa's mutantdom steered victorious.
(Excalibur IV#16) - Captain Baboon and other members of the new Captain Britain appeared when they were summoned by the mutant faerie Meggan and Excalibur. The mutant heroes were on a quest to locate their Betsy Braddock who'd disappeared after shattering into pieces during Saturnyne's cross-dimensional tournament. When asked for help, the Corps explained they'd not formally convened regarding her disappearance though it troubled them. IT was then decided they would put out the call and would each search for Betsy in their respective realms.
(Excalibur IV#16 - BTS) - As such, Captain Baboon would've presumably searched for Betsy Braddock of Earth-616 within her own realm. However, the real Betsy had been stranded on Earth-21270.
(Excalibur IV#19) - The Captain Britain Corps convened in the Starlight Citadel after Elspeth Braddock of Earth-13059 believed to have found the spirit of the missing Betsy Braddock and collected it in a magical lantern. Believing the Citadel could restore Betsy's body and soul if she were returned to her rightful doorway, they petitioned Saturnyne to act. Saturnyne, however, refused, dismissing their request and mocking their cause. Unwilling to abandon their sister-Captain, the Corps vowed to restore Betsy themselves, planning to bypass Saturnyne's authority and return her through the gates of Avalon. Betsy's spirit was then returned to Brian Braddock and Excalibur, who with the help of Psylocke successfully resurrected her.
(Knights of X I#1 - BTS) - The Lunatic Citadel, formerly the Starlight Citadel, came under the control of the mutant-hating despot Merlyn and his right-hand man, King Arthur. Hell-bent on wiping out the "witchbreed," he sent Furies to hunt them throughout Otherworld. Betsy Braddock and her Captain Britain Corps did their best to keep Merlyn's forces at bay. Although unseen, Captain Baboon would presumably been present as well.
(Knights of X I#5) - Following the defeat and execution of the Omniversal Majestor Merlyn, Elizabeth Braddock of Earth-616 decreed that the Captain Britain Corps would no longer serve Saturnyne, Roma, or Merlyn. With the rule of Otherworld's provinces left to self-governance in the absence of a Majestrix, Braddock led the Corps (including Captain Baboon) into a newly charted territory within Otherworld to begin a new era for the Captains.
Comments: Psylocke ape created by Karl Kesel and Ramon Bachs. Captain Baboon created by Tini Howard, Mahmud Asrar, and Stefano Caselli.
The Marvel Apes limited series (2008) was conceived as a playful companion to the earlier Marvel Zombies phenomenon. Following the unexpected commercial success of Zombies, Marvel looked to replicate the formula by reimagining its superheroes in another offbeat, high-concept alternate reality. Writer Karl Kesel, inspired by Silver Age whimsy and the classic "What If?" tradition, pitched a world where Marvel's heroes and villains were evolved primates rather than humans. The project was greenlit as a four-issue miniseries, launching with a tongue-in-cheek promotional campaign that leaned into its absurdity while still delivering a surprisingly dark, satirical storyline. The series spawned several tie-ins and one-shots, positioning the Ape-Verse as both a parody of and homage to Marvel's multiverse storytelling.
Earth-8101 is the main Marvel Apes reality, but there are three others as well:
- Earth-81218, possible future of Earth-8101 set in the year 2099.
- Earth-90543, monkey Speedball was send back to his world and branded a traitor by the Ape-Vengers. This was a bad dream of the Gibbon.
- Earth-95019, diverged from 8101 when zombies invaded their world. The reset button was eventually pushed on the original Earth-8101, preventing the divergence.
The Bonobo-Pen Bulletin letter page of Marvel Apes I#3 (December, 2008) confirmed the existence of Elizabeth's brother Brian on Earth-8101, it established that the Marvel Apes variant cover for Captain Britain and MI 13 I#5 (November, 2008) was part of their reality: When Captain Britain's zapped by Gro-Rilla's Pym particle, he's a thousand monkeys tall, he is he is, and taking it to Big Ben. Only the dimension hopping Union Jackalope can stop him now!".
Marvel Apes I#2 (September, 2008) called the X-Men of Earth-8101 the X-Apes, they were previously known as the X-Simians in a back-up feature from Marvel Apes I#1.
Although Captain Baboon was not seen in Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain (2023), it's possible her reality was amongst those targeted by the Furies of the Everforge who'd fallen in with Morgan le Fay's schemes. Or amongst the Corps members defending other realities from the Furies such as Earth-5411. Likewise in issue 5 of Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain (2023) Betsy Braddock wrote al letter to the Captain Britain Corps, reflecting on her journey, affirming mutant resilience, and pledging love and unity in defense of the Multiverse. Part of the Corps, Captain Baboon would've received the letter as well.
