He has no inherent powers of his own but pilots a massive, presumably organic, suit which gives him immense strength and durability. From inside, Pogg Ur-Pogg is able to control and operate the suit as if it was a living creature, able to eat food for sustenance and displaying agility and dexterity required for weapon-wielding. The crocodile-like suit also has two additional pairs of large arms, giving Pogg Ur-Pogg a total of eight limbs to control.

He wields a massive blade also named Pogg Ur-Pogg, which is similar in size and shape to Apocalypse's Scarab.

History: (X of Swords: Stasis (fb) - BTS) - Pogg Ur-Pogg and his sword of the same name were mentioned in a prophecy spoken by the Horseman Pestilence as one of the ten swords and swordbearers from the Arakki that would take part in a tournament organized by Omniversal Majestrix Opal Luna Saturnyne for their right of passage through Otherworld to Earth, the other side of the tournament being from the mutant nation of Krakoa.

(X of Swords: Stasis) - Pestilence and War approached Pogg Ur-Pogg in his lair on the planet Amenth and brought him a large satchel of gems to buy his services. When Pogg Ur-Pogg demanded more, they offered him an entire new world to plunder in the case of their victory and Pogg Ur-Pogg accepted. He then joined the nine mutants from Arakko in their journey to Otherworld, where the tournament would take place.

(Marauders I#14) - Before the tournament began, Saturnyne invited her guests from both sides to a feast in the Starlight Citadel. One of the White Priests attempted to hand the entrants cards with their assigned seats but an impatient Pogg Ur-Pogg demanded those in front of him in the queue to enter step aside or he would knock them out of his way, and swatted the cards away, announcing that he would take a seat of his choosing. Later, as he wandered the banqueting hall picking up and guzzling down entire trays of entrees in one gulp, his potential opponents Magik and Kraken sized him up. Magik noted that the "chonky dinosaur" was going to be a problem, but Kraken noted that every beast had a softness beyond its armor.

(Marauders I#15) - During the feast, Cable and Magik of Krakoa were testing the mutant powers of Isca the Unbeaten of Arakko and, among other things, had her play a game of pin the tail on Pogg Ur-Pogg, which Isca won easily.

(Wolverine VIII#7) - Pogg Ur-Pogg's first contest of the tournament was against Magik of Krakoa and took place in the Floating Kingdom of Roma Regina. The contestants clashed their swords just before Saturnyne took their weapons away and declared the contest to be that of arm-wrestling. Due to their physical differences, Pogg Ur-Pogg won the contest in an instant, much to his delight.

(X-Force VI#14) - After a series of other contests took place, Pogg Ur-Pogg and Magik were matched together again in the same arena and in unarmed combat as before. However, Magik had by now learned the meaning of Pogg's name and thus his secret that he was a smaller being inside a large suit. When he swallowed her whole, she was able to take Pogg Ur-Pogg out of his suit, allowing her to defeat him easily.

Returning to his suit afterwards, Pogg Ur-Pogg was put up against Magik once more, this time in a Contest of Boulders. With Death and Isca the Unbeaten at his side, Pogg Ur-Pogg participated in pushing large round boulders around, ultimately winning that contest with his teammates. Alongside Redroot the Forest, he also beat Storm and Captain Avalon in the Labyrinth Escape contest.

Finally, without his suit to assist him, Pogg Ur-Pogg, alongside Death and Bei the Blood Moon, prevailed against Magik and Cypher in the Contest of Letters, a form of spelling bee.

(Excalibur IV#15) - The Arakki side ultimately lost the tournament but Annihilation refused to abide by its rules and unleashed her horde of Amenthi daemons against the Starlight Citadel. Pogg Ur-Pogg found himself in a midst of a chaotic battle against his wishes and cursed the entire ordeal as being stupid.

(X of Swords: Destruction) - As the battle raged on, the Krakoan side was reinforced with the arrival of the X-Men and Pogg Ur-Pogg found himself fighting the mutants Domino (Neena Thurman), Mirage (Dani Moonstar) and Gwenpool (Gwendolyn Poole), among others. The combined forces of Krakoa, the restarted Captain Britain Corps and the Starlight Citadel eventually prevailed over Annihilation's army, which was put in check once more. With no personal stake in the conflict, Pogg Ur-Pogg returned to Amenth and resumed his life as a sword for hire.

Pogg Ur-Pogg speaks of himself in third person and, unless interrupted, always in rhyme. The only exception to date is his very first line spoken in X of Swords: Stasis, which does not rhyme properly.

With the revelation that Pogg is the Arakko word for "Sword" and refers to the organic suit, it is possible that Pogg Ur-Pogg is the alias and not his true name. The name Pogg Ur-Pogg refers to both the sword itself and its bearer.

As of this writing, it has not yet been explicitly established within the story whether Amenth is a planet within the regular universe, a separate dimension in Reality-616 or a different reality altogether.

The data page in Cable IV#6 provided the formal names for each contest in tournament and those names are used in the History entry for X-Force VI#14.
