UNITED FRONT
(Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - During the first days after the fall of Xandar, Drax's harsh combat training "made a man" of Richard Rider. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - The United Front -- a collection of forces ("anyone or anything still able to hold a weapon") opposing the Annihilation Wave (the insectoid forces of Annihilus) -- were soundly defeated on Tartus Minor as they waged a two dimensional war on the surface while the Annihilation Wave also assaulted them from orbit. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Desiring his ally of convenience Thanos to discover the biological
application of cosmic power, Annihilus ordered his forces to apprehend
Heralds of Galactus. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - The United Front established a base on Daedalus 5 on the periphery of the Kree system. Nova (Richard Rider) served as the commander-in-chief (Alpha Prime), with Peter Quill as his second-in-command. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - Despite Rider's prodding, Quill adamantly refused to resume his Starlord identity, weaponry, etc. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - Drax taught Rider that you could not lead from the rear of a battle. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - The remnants of the Skrull Empire were largely wiped out by the Annihilation Wave. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Rider developed a romantic relationship with Gamora. |
.
.
(Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Gamora ran black-ops, with over twelve hit-and-run teams targeting the
Wave's command centers. Both Quill and Rider suspected that she was
using suicide runners. |
.
.
|
As predicted by Quill, one of the force fields (Right Flank 076) blew, and Quill further noted that it was going to cascade.
Ronan provided tactical guidance, and when Lar-Ka refused to acknowledge his authority and noted his allegiance to House Fiyero, Ronan smashed his skull, fatally relieving him of his duties. With the other Kree still respecting Ronan, he led them in a tactical and orderly retreat that would otherwise have been a bloodbath, which also bought Rider's forces some desperately needed time. Although the Kree positions were the hardest hit, with Ronan's lead, they suffered the fewest casualties. Rider ordered Quill to instruct
all forces to pull back to secondary perimeter, but as they did so
Rider engaged the Wave directly. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - All force fields collapsed. |
With Extirpia cut off from the Wave, their attack fell into disarray, and they were swiftly overcome by the United Front. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Although considering that they should press their lead and drive back
the Annihilation Wave, Quill was reluctant, as the last time he had
pressed his luck, it had gone badly. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - Red Shift and Stardust brought the inert Firelord as well as Extirpia back to Daedalus 5. Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Firelord was examined by staff including the Rigellian Mari, who had no
idea what to make of his Galactus-altered form. Extirpia was physically
and mentally restrained. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - Presumably recovered by Drax, Rider apparently had lost a leg but had a new one grown by the medicos; while it was in the process, Quill told him how Firelord had ended the fight. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - Gamora refused to come in until the last straggler was accounted for. (Annihilation#1 - BTS) - As
Thanos learned all he had needed, Annihilus instructed his agent
Ravenous to terminate any remaining Heralds of Galactus. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) -
The Shi'ar continued their "wait-and-see" strategy while denying that
that was what they were doing. (Annihilation#1) <Annihilation Day plus 206> - Rider and Quill visited the inert Firelord and then Extirpia, the latter of whom revealed how Annihilus, with the aid of Thanos and the Proemial Gods Aegis and Tenebrous, had defeated Galactus. |
When a trio of Kree captains loyal to House Fiyero attempted to arrest Ronan, he instead slew them all. Ronan subsequently requested a Kree battalion to topple House Fiyero to ensure the Kree stayed allied with the United Front, but Nova denied this, considering his forces already stretched too thin. Praxagora and her associates then arrived with
the apparent corpse of Kl'rt (aka the Super-Skrull), but her efforts to
ally with them were met with skepticism due to her Negative Zone
agents. Teleporting in via Thanos' technology, Ravenous -- joined by six of his Currs, the Elan Delinquent (formerly the Infant Terrible), the Mad Thinker's "most powerful android," Paibok the Power-Skrull, and Terrax the Tamer (with the Delinquent and Terrax, at least, under the influence of worm-like creatures infesting and controlling their bodies) -- confronted the United Front, and Nova had Quill summon Red Shift and Stardust down from space to aid in the fight. The Front gained an advantage in the fight, but then the Centurions -- 100 superhuman warriors from each of the worlds controlled by Annihilus -- teleported in. (Annihilation#3) - Despite
Drax's having allegedly stabbed the Delinquent three dozen times, the
youth survived while Drax was assaulted by one of the Centurions. As Annihilation Wave forces were teleported in, Red Shift was the first to realize that the entire planet was lost. He instructed Stardust to slear an evacuation corridor for the emergency ships. At Praxagora's request, the Rigellian physican Mari took Kl'rt into the medical facility. (Annihilation#3 - BTS) - Teleporting into the Annihilation Wave's perimeter around Daedalus 5, Annihilus destroyed his own fleet when they offered excuses for the planet's continued existence, with the desired goal that the remaining forces would fear him more than the resistance. |
.
![]() Having devised the means to use
Galactus' technology to devour worlds while feeding the energies
obtained into Annihilus' fleet, Thanos used Daedalus 5 as a
demonstration of this weapon. (Annihilation#3) - Ronan and
Ravenous' battle brought them into the medical facility, and Mari
futilely blasted Ravenous. After Ronan was incapacitated shielding Mari
from Ravenous' assault, the revived Firelord attacked Ravenous. (Annihilation#3 (fb) - BTS) - While Ravenous escaped, the energies unleashed in the battle served to revive Kl'rt from his inert state. (Annihilation#3) - Drax advised Nova that they needed to depart the planet immediately or all would perish. While Gamore overwhelmed and prepared to execute
Terrax, she was pulled away by Stardust for immediate evacuation; Nova
advised her to get her Graces gathered up and running. As Mari crawled from the wreckage, Kl'rt blasted off the debris covering himself, Firelord, and Ronan. While the rest of the United Front fled in a
starship, Drax dove back to battle the Annihilation Wave, despite
Cammi's protests. As Thanos unleashed the Galactus Weapon, Red Shift and Stardust held back the assault long enough for the United Front's ship to escape the planet; both heralds were believed to have perished in the process. However, for everyone they successfully evacuated, a dozen were left behind. . Ronan, Praxagora, and Kl'rt departed to take out House Fiyero. |
Comments: Created by Keith Giffen and Andrea DeVito.
There are numerous unidentified,
distinct-looking characters in the various panels, and I spent WAY too
much time trying to get larger images of each of them in a sub-profile
for discussion, often below the main image in which we saw them.
However, there were also a number of generic Kree and Skrulls, and I
did not make an effort to scan or focus on all of those.
Kika will also get an expansion to a full
profile in the not too distant future. Praxagora will be a way off...

CLARIFICATIONS:
The United Front has no known connections to:
![]() ![]() --Annihilation#1 Note: The image is from page 22, panel 3 Extirpia is the large figure held in manacles. Nova (Rich Rider) and Peter Quill (then formerly Star-Lord) are the figures in shadows at the back of the image. Additionally, we have the green individual at the forefront; a long-haired, blue-skinned male; a balding blue-skinned male; a red being with a tail for a lower body, and a partially-shadowed, apparently blue-skinned being with a prominent ridge atop the head. Loki suggested that the darker blue-skinned guy with the ridge could be a Gegku, as it possible they aren't all green (certainly we have multiple skin colors amongst humanity). We've only seen them thus far in Reality-829 (Hercules in the 24th Century), but that does not mean they don't exist in Reality-616. He reminds me of the Constrictor (Frank Payne), the on-and-off super hero vs. super-villain with the electrically-charged Adamantium coils he projects from his uniform's wrists. This guy. . . . |
![]() ![]() The green-skinned technician is lacking any external nasal structure and has solid yellow eyes. Two small lateral ridges on either side of a central thicker ridge atop the head There is almost a chitinous/armor look to prominent maxillary lips/cheeks. Three fingers and a thumb on each hand This is a well-detailed being, but he doesn't really fit any race I could think of. I initially thought Alpha Centauri until I opened the link to that race, and I saw the resemblance was minimal. |
. . ![]() ![]() Given his blue skin and the large number of Kree associated with the United Front, it would seem very likely that this guy is a Kree. However, it is certainly possible that he is a member of another blue-skinned race, or maybe he's a mutant member of some non-blue-skinned race. . . The red-skinned technician has four arms, each with a thumb and perhaps 2-3 fingers on each hand, as well a serpentine lower body. This technician also has a mane that seems to run like a mohawk over its head, down its back, and over a significant length of its tail. He or she is only seen from behind, so nothing can be said about the facial structure, but there do seem to be scutes running down the front of the chest and presumably continuing down the lower body/tail. The Lem race has a body conformation and skin color that fits well to this character. However, the Lem have large, pointed ears, and the ones we've seen don't have hair or four arms. Perhaps he is a mutant member of the Lem, as we certainly have mutant or mutate or genetically-engineered humans with four or more arms, despite this not being standard for humanity. |
![]() The blue-skinned, long-haired technician is also presumably Kree...but possibly not. ![]() |
![]() ![]() Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) -
Firelord was examined by staff including the Rigellian Mari, who had no
idea what to make of his Galactus-altered form. Extirpia was physically
and mentally restrained. (Annihilation#1 (fb) - BTS) - Presumably recovered by Drax, Rider apparently had lost a leg but had a new one grown by the medicos; while it was in the process, Quill told him how Firelord had ended the fight. --Annihilation#1Other notable beings at the facility in this image -- beyond Mari, Nova (Rich Rider), Peter Quill and Firelord -- include the being on the platform above Mari's left shoulder in the above images; the cloaked two-fingered woman tending to what appeared to be a wounded Kree; the digitigrade two-fingered cloaked being apparently tending to the humanoid woman in the tank; and the floating medical droid. Others in the medical facility include the pink-skinned bald guy with sideburns, and four mobile medics. |
![]() ![]() They shared similar garb with loose sleeves, utility belts, and hoods. Maybe they were part of some religious order? Maybe they have healing powers or just special training. Other beings are seen more distantly, but two are seen more clearly. The woman does not appear to have an external nasal structure. She appears to have two fingers and a thumb. She appears to have breasts, which would typically indicate some mammalian nature. Her legs are not clearly seen...she may be plantigrade, walking on the heel like a human, or digitigrade, with the tarsus/hock/ankle being elevated and with the metatarsophalangeal joint being in contact with the ground. The other cloaked person is shown from behind, and the face and gender can't be determined (although the figure strikes me as more masculine). The being appears to have two fingers and a thumb. The being has a digitigrade stance (see above), with at least two toes on each foot. I had initially suspected this character to be Kymellian, although the fingers are thinner, and the feet look more like a pachyderms. However, I had also not considered that the woman's longer cloak could easily be covering legs with a digitigrade stance. I wonder if the two are meant to be the same race, or just of the same order, like Jedi in the Star Wars saga. |
An unidentified female humanoid was kept in some sort of regenerative and/or stasis fluid tank, with a mask presumably connected to air she could breathe. . ![]() It is unclear whether the droid gave injections or whether it just transported the drugs, syringes and needles to another medical professional. |
. . ![]() Beyond Mari, Firelord in a tank, the seemingly deceased Super-Skrull (Kl'rt) lying prone on a table, the only the character to the left is seen clearly. He was presumably a medic or doctor of some sort. He has perhaps pink skin with sideburns but an otherwise bald head (with numerous spots), with solid yellow eyes and no visible external nasal structure. Note: Image from Annihilation#3, pg. 11, panel 2 |
.![]() Mari sent a group of medics to help the wounded during the battle. At the same time, Praxagora carried the seemingly deceased Super-Skrull toward the medical facility. The one to the far left in the image has an appearance similar to the green tech who worked on Extirpia, but with hair on the back of his head. He looked to have two fingers and a thumb on each hand. . The one behind and to the right has orange or pink skin, with a distinct blunt projection from the back of his head. . Central and toward the top, closest to Mari, is a cyclopean being with a a widened, ellipsoid upper portion of the head, and a more narrow lower facial portion that tapered inferiorly. It is unclear whether this being was organic or an android, etc. . At the bottom right was a bald humanoid with a bionic left eye and other portions of the upper left of his face. |
![]() . In the opening scene where Nova (Rider) and Quill supervised the battle against the approaching Annihilation Wave, amongst numerous Kree soldiers, this guy, with spikes on his back and either a curved, tapering skull or helmet shaped in that fashion was seen from behind, firing an energy rifle at the insectoid creatures. --Annihilation#1 Note: The image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 2, panel 1 |
![]() ![]() He had a number of pointed projections running along the lateral surface of his cheeks and connecting as they ran along his chin. He carried a rifle of some sort. --Annihilation#1 Note: The images are from Annihilation#1, pg. 1, panel 2 (with the central image just being a close-up of the left-most one), and pg. 3, panel 4 | .![]() |
![]() ![]() a gray (or just shadowed) being with an insectoid or exoskeleton plate on top of the head, seen only in profile in the lower left. a Skrull female with a large rifle weapon, seen only in posterior view. a non-distinctive Kree male with a rifle weapon a four-armed mechanoid or armored organic being, possible cyclopean, standing in the background with a raised weapon a long-eared guy helping an injured Kree. --Annihilation#1 note: This image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 1, panel 2 (or bottom row, central image for pg. 1-2) |
![]() He(?) appears to be gray or blue, with spots on his neck and shoulders, yellow eyes, and small, spiked projections from his mandible (lower jaw). --Annihilation#1 Note: This image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 3, panel 3 |
![]() ![]() A gunman with long hair was seen from thorax up in posterior view on the stairs just below them. --Annihilation#1 Note: This image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 6, panel 1 and 2 Closeups of the big hairy guy and the long-haired gunman are in sub-profiles below. |
![]() ![]() He wore armored shoulder pads and a bandoleer, and he carried a large weapon. --Annihilation#1 Note: These images are from Annihilation#1, pg.6, panel 1-2 (closeups of the above images). As he was seen with three other known characters, it would seem like this guy was meant to be a known character, as well, but I can't place him... |
![]() You can't see his face, skin, etc., so there's not much else to say about him... --Annihilation#1 Note: The image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 6, panel 1 (full image shown two sub-profiles above) |
![]() Of note were two soldiers, one who was a humanoid woman with long hair on her head and tattoos on her right arm. She was handing a canteen to another soldier, who appeared to also have long hair, but to also have lenses over his eyes, no visible external nasal structure, and possibly either some sort of chitinous plate or body armor over the top of his head. --Annihilation#1 Note: This image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 18, panel 1 (female handing canteen to male) |
close-ups![]() |
![]() In addition to Rich Rider centrally and a number of Kree in the background.... A green-skinned male humanoid whose upper lip draped over his mandible and who had perhaps two (or maybe an unseen third) fingers and, presumably, a thumb. Whether sleeping, exhausted, and/or mentally distraught, he sat, clutching his rifle. Beside him sat an orange male humanoid with spiked hair or spikes on his head, and some sort of projection extending from his zygomatic processes (cheekbones) in the inferior (downward) direction before extending laterally upon reaching the bottom of the lower jaw. He likely had a broken radius and/or ulna, or perhaps just a wound to the muscle in that region, as he had a sling to support his lower forearm. --Annihilation#1 Note: This image is from Annihilation#1, pg. 19, panel 1 |
![]() ![]() A male soldier with green skin and gray hair (extending back into something of a point) was seen polishing his rifle weapon. Additionally, a pale yellow-ish character with spikes on his head and apparently downward facing horns or tentacles was see carrying a sack of something. --Annihilation#1 Note: The two images are from Annihilation#1 pg. 19, panel 6 and pg. 20, panel 2 |
![]() ![]() Opposite him was a green-skinned male with spikes on his chin wearing a durag and holding a large rifle with a bayonet. He appeared to have four fingers and a thumb Both men appeared to be on guard duty. Two other males were seen in a distance, including the bald male, with a rifle slung over his shoulder, walking toward the viewer; and the presumed male with bushy hair, carrying his rifle and walking away from the viewer. --Annihilation#2 Note: This image was from Annihilation#2, pg.1, panel 1 |
![]() ![]() Below them, a Kree soldier with a head bandage sat, while a green male with a squid-like head, a pair of projections extending down from his upper lip region and with a bare chest walked away from them. --Annihilation#2 Note: This image was from Annihilation#2, pg. 1, panel 2 |
![]() ![]() There was (as pictured on the far left) a beige (maybe cosmic latte)-skinned male with an elongated, posteriorly pointed head, with a central row of ridges. He may or may not have had nostrils without a nasal protuberance, and he also had three slits on the side(s) of his head that may have had an auditory function or may have been gills. He wore a full suit of body armor. There was (as pictured to the near right) also a pink-skinned being with a series of pointed projections running down the center of the upper and back part of its head (it may or may not have had similar projections running down its neck and back). Although its face was not seen clearly, it was somewhat elongated with a forward-projecting mandible and maxilla. It had two fingers and likely a thumb on each hand. It digitigrade legs, with perhaps three relatively flat toes on each foot (almost reminiscent of a pachyderm's toes). It worse some sort of tunic with a loincloth reminiscent of something a Roman gladiator might wear (at least in the movies). It used some sort of tablet. Additionally, there was (as pictured on the far right) a green-skinned, pointed eared being with a scar running from the central portion of his forehead down and to the right over his right eye and ending toward the bottom of his right cheek. He might appear Skrull-like if not for the lower part of his face, which had some structure extending down from between its eyes and then splitting into two parts that extended down below either side of its chin. Its mouth was obscured by the above structure, but it had three blunt projections from each side of its lower jaw. --Annihilation#2 Note: This image was from Annihilation#2, pg. 8, panel 1 | ![]() |
![]() ![]() When the Kree captains loyal to House Fiyero attempted to arrest Ronan, he instead slew them all. --Annihilation#2 Note: These images were from Annihilation#2, pg. 8, panel 2 (seated) and pg. 11, panel 1 (accused). |
The two images on the left are just close-ups from Annihilation#2, pg. 8, panel 2, while the far right image is from pg. 8, panel 3![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() The only other one identified by name amongst the group with Praxagora (the metal woman) was Ralek, who had gray-ish skin, a number of spikes poking from his head, no visible nasal structure, three fingers and a thumb on each hand. He held a canteen to refill the bowl from which Praxagora was drinking. I'm not sure what was contained in the canteen. He is seen in partial profile on the left side of the image to the left, and an oblique posterior view in the image on the right. Also noteworthy was the shorter, brown-skinned, apparently insectoid being to their right, who had a broad face, solid bright yellow eyes, and paired stalks or antennae on either side of the top of his head, as well as another stalk projecting downward on either side of his chin. I believe that's him on the left side of the image to the right, but the stalks aren't visible in that image. Additionally, behind Praxagora was a bald being with mask/plate covering the lower part of his face (where a nose and mouth might be). Also seen are a blond humanoid woman (either in armor or possibly with bionic body parts), another semi-insectoid being, and a person in a cloak. --Annihilation#2 Note: These images were from Annihilation#2, pg. 12, panel 5 (left) pg. 13, panel 1 (Ralek - posterior, etc.) |
![]() In the panel to the left: To the Kree woman's left, there is a gray or green with spikes running down the top of his head and around the "crown" of his skull. He also wears some red body armor and carries a rifle. To the left and behind that guy, there is an orange-headed, three-eyed character with head that flares out at the top. He also wears some sort of body armor. To the left and in front of the spikey guy is a gray-green guy with a row of rides running down the center of his head. Bald on top, he has long hair extending from the sides (he reminds me of Klingon from Star Trek). He had a number of armored plates across his upper body, especially the shoulders and forearms. To the left and behind that guy, there's a light gray guy with bushy hair and beard, apparently pointy ears extending laterally (or else that's just hair), and lacking any visible external nasal structure. He also seems to be wearing body armor. ![]() . In the panel to the right: At the top left of the panel, there's a pink or orange, somewhat squid-headed guy (bald, with a number of tentacles hanging from the lower portion of his face). He has digitigrade limbs with three toes on each foot. He has also visited the shoulder and forearm armorer. In front of that guy, there is a light yellow-green bald character with pointed ears and a short, thick tail. --Annihilation#2 Note: These panels were from Annihilation#2, pg. 13, panel 1 - upper left of panel and lower left of panel |
![]() A number of Kree stood to their right. Behind them and to their left, close to the wall stood a pale, maybe orange-skinned, bald alien with a somewhat pointed head, with spikes around the crown. She (the outfit looked like a dress, and the leg and stocking appeared be feminine) had solid white eyes, but no obvious external nasal structure. She also held an energy rifle. --Annihilation#2 Note: This image is from Annihilation#2, pg. 16, panel 1 (far right) |
![]() ![]() To the far left corner of the image (cut off on the image to the right), the upper portion of the head of a dark-eyed being with tan and brown skin with circular pattern was seen. --Annihilation#3 Note: This image is from Annihilation#3, pg. 25, panel 1 The other characters are described in the cell below |
![]() ![]() In the bottom right, an apparently insectoid being with green skin/chitin, bright yellow eyes and perhaps two digits on each hand and holding a tablet discussed something that seemed to be a matter of contention with another being. The other being, perhaps a robot or wearing armor, as the elbows seemed to be hinged, had some sort of headdress with projections pointing in the posterior direction. This being's limbs were beige or tan, and its outfit was more of a light brown. |
