First Appearance: Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#61 (January, 1994)
Powers/Abilities: Strange had vast mystic abilities.
He was composed of mystical energy
he could manipulate for many effects, including but not limited to
energy blasts from his hands and forehead, flight, molecular
alteration, teleportation, survival in virtually any environment, and
even resurrection of the dead. He could particularly unleash and
manipulate elemental energy (that involving earth, air, fire and/or
water).
Composed of mystic energy, he virtually immune
to non-magical mental attack, and he could re-merge severed body parts
(even if split in twain) and reform after his body was dispersed into
numerous, small globules.
Singleminded in his missions to
acquire mystic artifacts and/or to preserve his existence, he was
willing to slay others to achieve his ends.
He has possessed/wielded a number of mystic artifacts, such as the Coral Crab, Oculus Oroboros (from which he unleashed the Rend Eels) and the Song of the Blood Opal.
He also briefly possessed the Mind, Power, Space and Time Infinity Gems.
He had access the knowledge and memories of Dr. Strange, but accessing memories was often agonizing for him.
Height: 6'2"
Weight: Unrevealed (mystic construct, weight difficult to estimate)
Eyes: Apparently none (while being formed, he appeared to have
dark eyes, but as Strange, he did not wear a mask, and so that
appearance was his face, which lacked eyes (sometimes had white
patterns in the location of where eyes would be)
Hair: None
History:
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme Annual#4 (fb)) - Dr. Strange disintegrated but then reconstructed himself, although he was bonded/contaminated with Salome's elemental energies (her "Dance"); he then traveled to a Null-Space dimension to rebuild his power; there he created his Forge Canal base. In the moment of his defeat, Dr. Strange accessed the unpredictable stasis spiral, and everything except Dr. Strange himself froze in time. Outside of time and space, Dr. Strange left behind his Cloak of Levitation and molded chaotic energies/aetheric discharges into lifelike manifestations of aspects of his own power and persona, the calculating Dr. Vincent Stevens, whom he put to work developing wealth to investigate newer forms of magic; and the ruthless and powerful sorcerer Strange; neither being knew its origin, but both were also suffused with Salome's elemental energies. Dr. Strange engendered these two "Strangers" with imprinted knowledge that he thought each would need, and he granted each a surface of character and a semblance of personality; Dr. Strange only used aspects of his own identity that he continually repressed. Relieved of his
burden, Dr. Strange then hid in his Forge Canal, leaving each of his
creations as a machine that increased his power in the material world,
which he could not directly access. |
.
(Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance#18) - Strange accompanied Blade, Blaze, Sam Buchanan, Stacy Dolan, Frank Drake, Ghost Rider, Hannibal King, Morbius and Vengeance (Victoria Montesi was pictured, but she had already been taken by Dr. Strange into his Forge Canal by this time) to the Cypress Hills Cemetery. Ghost Rider suggested that he, Blaze and Vengeance rescue Caretaker and the others...but Strange interrupted, instructing them that they all go together, as this was no time to divide their number. Nonetheless, Zarathos apparently sent dark magic out from the mausoleum that pulled Blaze, Ghost Rider and Vengeance inside before slamming the doors. After Zarathos had seemingly
slain Dan Ketch and absorbed Ghost Rider's powers, Strange and the
others confronted him. (Midnight Sons Unlimited#4 (fb) - BTS) - Alongside Blade, John Blaze, Caretaker, Frank Drake, Hannibal King, Morbius, and Vengeance, Strange confronted the Fallen (Atrocity, Metarchus, Patriarch) in Glastonbury Tor, England as Zarathos watched from above (and while Sam Buchanan and Stacy Dolan watched separately). When Strange blasted Patriarch, the corrupt leader turned immaterial so that Strange's blast hit Blaze instead, after which he mystically teleported Strange away with a touch, noting his disappointment in his single minded brute assault (believing Strange to be Dr. Strange). Returning, Strange then reanimated
the long-dead soldiers/knights buried at Glastonbury and sent them
against the Fallen. As they began to lose ground against their
assailants, Zarathos had Patriarch teleport them Fallen away. While
Strange cared not that the reanimated knights seemed to be truly alive
and begged for aid, Drake used his Exorcist gun to destroy them. At
Caretaker's advising, Strange teleported Buchanan and Dolan away, after
which the others traveled through a Caretaker-created portal to the
Blood's Nightclub base. As the Fallen arrived to confront them, Blaze and Vengeance departed with Strange via mystic gateway to Tibet confront Zarathos. After Blade sank Justicar into the willing Foundry, the sword was used to slay the rest of the Atrocity, Metarchus, and Patriarch, the trio confronted the agonized Zarathos. However, Zarathos fought back, stunning the trio with a single blast, and Blaze realized he was still drawing power from somewhere. Strange sent a mental signal to Caretaker to this effect, and ultimately Embyrre (who had served with but renounced the Fallen) incinerated herself. Strange and the others than attacked Zarathos en masse. Although Zarathos initially blasted them all back, they continued their assaults, weakening him until Blade could stab him with Justicar, rendering Zarathos a lifeless stone statue. Caretaker then convinced the others to relocate Zarathos' statue to the Cypress Hills Cemetery atop a mausoleum, deep below which he forged the gathered warriors into the Midnight Sons. Strange informed the others he would not be leading, only advising, although he did bar Frank Drake from joining, apparently as he was too "human." Caretaker backed this decision, and Frank accepted, although he resolved to stick around, intending to prove his worthiness. |
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#64) -
Via the Anomaly Rue in Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, Strange
traveled to Dr. Strange's Forge Canal. Pulling the Oculus Oroboros
from within
his chest, Strange delivered it to Dr. Strange, who chastised Strange,
noting that he had expected the Oculus hours ago.
Strange then obediently tipped his head back and released the dry and
fierce voice of the elder, emotionlessly singing the eerie notes of the
Song of the Blood Opal. Although Strange requested that he be allowed
to seek this new object, but Dr. Strange noted that it was in a
politically sensitive area. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#64 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Strange contacted Namor regarding the Coral Crab.,
the existence of which apparently threatened the undersea realm of
Aquaria. Namor, however, apparently refused to give up the Coral Crab
to him. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#64) -
Via her Skin of Necromancy, Salome' observed as Strange swam deep into
the ocean and into a deep pit that contained the forbidden cavern of
the Brilliant One; Atlanteans stationed there alerted Namor of the
invader's presence. Unaffected by the pressure, cold and darkness,
Strange's presence was sensed by the Brilliant One, stirring it to
life. Magically sensing the Coral Crab, Strange claimed it from within
the walls of the cavern and then headed back toward the surface, easily
tearing through a net set by the Atlanteans' under Namor's guidance. As Namor and other Atlanteans pursued him, Strange caused the
water they breathed to evaporate while he stored the Coral Crab within
his own chest. Meanwhile, the Coral Crab's theft caused the Brilliant One to
burst through ground, threatening Aquaria. Not realizing that this was
not actually Dr. Strange, Namor attacked him and demanded he return the
artifact, but Strange blasted him away, insisting that all Earth-bound
magic belonged to Strange. Subsequently blasting the Brilliant One,
Strange was bitten in half by the immense serpent, although his parts
flowed back together; this caused Namor to realize that this was not
actually Dr. Strange, although he nonetheless resented Dr. Strange for
having sent this berserk creature to steal that which he had denied
him. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#64 (fb) - BTS) - Having also appreciated Strange to not be Dr. Strange, Salome resolved to add Strange's strength to her own. |
![]() ![]() (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#65) -
After Namor attacked Strange again, Strange's mystic energies caused
his hands to burn, while Strange began to lose cohesion for reasons he
knew not. Strange was subsequently swallowed whole by the Brilliant
One, but he magically forced an opening between the creatures and
escaped, although he remained ignorant of the cause of his agony and
lack of cohesion. Salome' observed as Strange resolved to seek out "the
other" (Vincent Stephens). While Strange flew over the East River, Namor intercepted and punched him; with Namor's rage mystically-amplified by Salome' (without Namor's knowledge), Strange crashed to the streets of Manhattan. The conflict drew the attention of Vengeance, who also believed Strange to be Dr. Strange. Taking advantage of the distraction, Strange fired blasts at
both Namor and Vengeance, liquefying concrete and steel. Salome' then
channeled elemental energy directly through Namor, who blasted Strange,
causing the Coral Crab to be ejected from his form. Namor then
reclaimed the Crab and rushed back to the ocean floor to replace it and
allow the Brilliant One to return to its slumber. Salome' was furious
that Namor had not used her power to capture or destroy Strange. Appreciating Salome's involvement and frustrated by his loss of the Coral Crab, Strange screamed and lashed out with elemental blasts that struck a nearby building. When Vengeance hurled a spike out Strange to contain it, he was surprised to see Strange briefly be decapitated. After Strange blasted Vengeance, he reunited his head to his body and prepared again to confront the other and resolved that he would destroy Dr. Strange if he interfered. |
![]() ![]() Seeing a deer, he briefly considered merging with it, but he realized it was already whole while he needed something incomplete, like himself with which to merge. Attempting to mimic Dr. Strange's mystic gestures to access his memories, Strange was overwhelmed by pain, and he floated through the trees, discharging mystic energies. Flying by this region, Polaris (Lorna Dane) and Forge of X-Factor's technology determined that this being's energies threatened to damage the Yorktown chemical plant and cause environmental hazard. Seeking to stop this threat, Polaris attacked Strange, and her magnetic powers liquefied him. Fearing that she had killed her target, Polaris apparently relaxed her assault. Sensing her emotions, Strange determined that she considered herself a mutant outcast, and he concluded that she was incomplete also, and he attempted to merge with her. Although her resistance made the process painful, Strange eventually merged their forms. Having analyzed Strange's energies (and sent reports to Charles Xavier) and designed a nanotechnology weapon with which he blasted the combined form; focusing on reaching toward Lorna rather than protecting his own form, Strange was dispersed into colored energy globules. Strange subsequently reformed and concluded that he needed to find a willing partner. As he departed, telling Polaris that while she wanted to sympathize with all beings of difference, he felt hypocrisy from her for rejecting him. (Warlock & the Infinity Watch#36) - Seeking to acquire the Infinity Gems, Strange flew to Monster Island, where he rapidly claimed the Space, Time, Mind and Power Gems from Pip, Gamora, Moondragon and Drax. As he tried to take the Soul Gem from Warlock, however, Warlock used it to force Strange to sense Dr. Strange's memories that the Living Tribunal had decreed that the Infinity Gems could not be used in unison. As they were no use to him, Strange dropped the Infinity Gems and departed. |
.![]() ![]() (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#70) - Strange sought out Rick Jones at the Colisseum casino, briefly transforming Suzi Berengetti into inhuman form before sensing and departing to follow an empathic trail to Rick. Strange confronted Rick at his hotel room, seeking to merge with him as Rick had previously merged with Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). While Rick -- assuming he was dealing with Dr. Strange -- was less than willing, further negotiation was interrupted when Stevens, who had possessed the Hulk arrived. Hulk/Stevens smashed Strange into liquefied form on the beach, and when Strange unleashed an elemental blast against the Hulk, the Hulk was unharmed, and Stevens enjoyed feeling sensations he had been lacking. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#71) - Strange engaged the Stevens-controlled Hulk, arguing that this conflict would hasten their deaths, but the Stevens-Hulk proved immune to his attacks and instead tore Strange into shreds. Strange ultimately fled into the sand to escape. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#71 - BTS) - Rick Jones successfully taunted Banner such that he became enraged, which strengthened his will and allowed him to overcome Stevens' control. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#71) - Strange then used is Earth magic to stun the Hulk, after which Stevens evacuated the Hulk's form and agreed to merge with Strange so that they could survive. However, Stevens insisted that they do so at the Tempo as they would need his technology. Rick warned Strange that this might be another trap, but Strange accompanied Stevens, claiming to be prepared for either eventuality and that one-way or the other, this would be the final meeting of the Strangers. (Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#72) - Dr. Strange observed as Strange melted through the walls of Stevens' penthouse. He considered that he must re-absorb their energies before they disintegrated in order to save Clea. (Midnight Suns Unlimited#8 - BTS) - In the future of Earth-950108, Strange -- under unrevealed circumstances -- served as the progenitor of a race of powerful magical beings known as the Kynd. These beings were warred against by the technology-based Clave. Unable to defeat the Kynd, the Clave instead accessed the Nexus of Realities to travel back to the modern time period of Earth-616 in the swamps outside of Citrusville, Florida, seeking to study and ultimately dissect magical beings (which they called proto-Kynd) in hopes of learning how to defeat the Kynd. (Midnight Suns Unlimited#8) - With their magic-negating technology, the Clave captured Modred the Mystic, the Scarlet Witch and Strange for this purpose, little realizing that the latter was actually the Kynd's progenitor in their timeline. Unable to overcome the magic-negation, Modred advised the Clave that while they could learn more from himself and the Scarlet Witch via studying their living forms, Strange was not an organic being and would be perfect for them to dissect. As the Clave studied Strange and realized that he was their Kynd's progenitor, however, Blade -- who had been drawn by the Clave's attacks on various magic-users -- infiltrated the Clave base and neutralized their magic-negating technology. Strange began to vengefully slaughter the Clave, although as they struggled to re-start their magic-negation technology, he was wracked him with agony. Drawn by Strange's pain, the Man-Thing embraced him and absorbed/removed his pain. Strange then collapsed space-time around the Clave craft, sending it back through the Nexus of Realities to their own future reality. |

Nobel will get a profile in the near future. Paradox will get one in about a year.
Paradox had entries in the Marvel Legacy: The 1990s Handbook and the Official
Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z hardcover#8, which covered his existence as Strange in detail. It also suggested that Strange/Paradox’s status as alleged Progenitor of the Kynd suggests he might one day return to the Earth dimension.
