FOUNDRY

Real Name: Unrevealed

Identity/Class: Human variant (the Blood), magic user

Occupation: hermit; former agent of Zarathos; former defender of Earth

Affiliations: the Blood, Midnight Sons (Blade, John Blaze, Frank Drake, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider/Dan Ketch/Noble Kale, Hannibal King, Morbius, Vengeance); formerly the Fallen

Enemies: Zarathos, Fallen; formerly the Blood

Known Relatives: son (unnamed, deceased); possibly other members of the Blood.

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: an abandoned temple in the South American Jungle

First Appearance: Midnight Sons Unlimited#4 (January, 1994)

Powers: She is apparently immune or resistant to conventional disease and the effects of aging. Foundry is skilled at metalwork, forming various types of artwork and weaponry as her hobby. Apparently her power is to enchant the objects she forges.

She forged the sword Justicar, which possessed the ability to not only slay members of the Blood and/or the Fallen, but also could discharge the power that the Fallen stored for Zarathos. However, it required a special type of tempering to function, as described below.

History: BTS-Long ago, Foundry was one of the Blood, who fought against the evil of Zarathos and the Lilin. She may even date back as far as 20, 000 BC.
At some point, Foundry apparently had warned the rest of the Blood about Zarathos, but they refused to listen to her.

(MSU#4 (fb)) - Zarathos slew Foundry's son, and then offered her the power to bring her son back to life if she defected over to his side. She blamed the Blood for her son's death.

BTS - Foundry apparently did agree to serve Zarathos, becoming one of the first of the Fallen. Zarathos never did fulfill his side of the bargain.

Eventually, Foundry left Zarathos and the rest of the Fallen. Tired of the endless struggle and embarrassed of her previous actions. She went off to live in seclusion in an old Temple in the jungles of South America.

(MSU#4) - The Midnight Sons and the remaining members of the Blood sought out Foundry, in hopes of learning Zarathos' weaknesses from her. Raydar used his power to locate anyone he has ever met to find her. Initially she attempted to fight them off, but after she found that she could not, she began to tell them what she knew. She revealed the existence of Justicar to them, but told them that she had lacked the courage to temper it, because it must be tempered in Blood. Not blood...Blood.

Zarathos and the Fallen tracked the Blood to Foundry's base, but Foundry convinced Blade to slay her with the Blade and allow it to attain its full power and potential. Blade did so, and then used Justicar to slay Atrocity, Metarchus, and Patriarch, cutting Zarathos off from a large portion of his power.

Comments: Created by D. G. Chichester and John Bridges.

Foundry means either the act, process, or art of casting metals, or an establishment where founding is carried on.
