RAYDAR

Real Name: Unrevealed

Identity/Class: Human variant (the Blood), magic user

Occupation: Former owner of a Snack Shop; former warrior

Affiliations: The Blood, Midnight Sons (Blade, John Blaze, Frank Drake, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider/Dan Ketch/Noble Kale, Hannibal King, Morbius, Vengeance);

Enemies: The Fallen, Parasite, Zarathos

Known Relatives: Embyrre (daughter), possibly others of the Blood

Aliases: James Raydar

Base of Operations: formerly the Nightclub; a Snack Shop in Battery Park, New York

First Appearance: (Named) Morbius#17 (January, 1994)

Powers: Raydar can sense and relocate the presence of any person he has ever met. He can also sense whatever is approaching him from a distance of about five hundred yards, regardless of whether he had ever previously encountered them. He is apparently immune to conventional disease and the effects of aging.

History: BTS-Long ago, Raydar was one of the Blood, who fought against the evil of Zarathos. He may even date back as far as 20, 000 BC.

(Morbius#17(fb)-BTS) - At some point, Raydar lost his daughter, Embyrre, when she turned from the Blood and joined the Fallen. Raydar blamed Caretaker and the rest of the group, and so he broke contact with them. He spent an unknown period (and planned to spend his remaining millennia) blending in with the rest of humanity.

(Morbius#17) - Both the Fallen and the Blood tried to recruit Raydar for his aid in the battle between Zarathos and the Midnight Sons. Morbius and Hannibal King located Raydar in his snack shop, but Raydar detected their approach, mistook them for agents of Zarathos come to kill him, and ambushed him. By the time they explained their goal, the Fallen members Rubach and Embyrre had found them and attacked. King and Morbius defeated the two Fallen, but were then assaulted by the Lilin Parasite (first in Martine Bancroft's form and then without a host). Parasite, too, was defeated, and in the course of the struggle, Embyrre learned respect for the heroes and decided to rejoin the Blood and resurrect Martine, who was slain during the battle. She and Raydar were reunited.

(Marvel Comics Presents I#146) - Raydar was alongside the Midnight Sons when they fell for a trick by Metarchus posing as Caretaker. Raydar recognized the trick in time to save Embyrre from an attack by Metarchus. Metarchus shrunk to the size of something to small to see and prepared to ambush the heroes, but Raydar tracked her/it down. The others drove Metarchus off.

(Midnight Sons Unlimited#4) - Embyrre and Raydar sat out the next conflict with the Fallen, but they then joined with the Midnight Sons to locate Foundry, in hopes of using her knowledge against Zarathos. They traveled to Foundry's South American Jungle Base, but were followed by Zarathos and the Fallen. As the Midnight Sons slew the Fallen, Zarathos drew power from the last of the Fallen, Embyrre herself (though she had turned against him, she still had the connection). Morbius recognized this and tried to kill Embyrre. As she fought back against him, Raydar attacked Zarathos, hoping to free his daughter from him. Zarathos casually incinerated Raydar.

Comments: Created by Gregory Wright and Isaac Cordova, and possibly Howard Mackie.

With clever names like Raydar, I'm just glad there wasn't a member of the Fallen named Cavitee Surch.
