History:

(Lorna the Jungle Girl I#26) - Mort went on a safari in the Congo jungles that was led by Greg Knight and his friend Lorna. The safari was going on during dry season and the group's water supply was low. When Mort tried to sneak into the water supply to drink more than his rationed amount, Lorna caught him and informed on him to Greg. Greg declared that Mort was a danger to their entire safari party so cut him loose into the jungle rather than have his entire party destroyed by him.

Furious at Lorna for catching him, Mort took a rope and lassoed Lona's chimpanzee companion Mikki, threatening to kill Mikki unless Lorna surrendered to him. As Lorna started to feign compliance, Mikki grabbed the rope and threw off Mort's aim so he couldn't shoot Lorna. Lorna punched Mort when suddenly a giant boa constrictor emerged from the jungle and started to wrap itself around Mort. Lorna tried to save Mort and he realized she was risking her life to save him. Mort told Lorna to let him go but Lorna found the boa constrictor was strangely weak and she easily wrestled it away from Mort. Following the boa constrictor, Mort and Lorna found a fresh water pool the snake was using to refresh itself.

To help Mort make amends, Lorna told him to return to the safari party and lead them to the water pool they'd found. Lorna pretended she knew nothing about the pool so that Mort could redeem himself in Greg Knight's eyes. Greg fell for their pretense and let Mort back into the safari. Mort declared he'd learned "a lesson or two" from his experiences.
