History:
(Spellbound I#7/3) - Joe was in love with Emmy Lou but her two aunts didn't like Joe and didn't want him to marry her. One day Joe was hoeing his field when he started to think about Emmy Lou and mused how much he'd like to kill Emmy Lou's aunts so he could have Emmy Lou to himself. He began to imagine what married life would be like with Emmy Lou. Recalling that his own grandfather had kidnapped his grandmother to be his bride when their families were feuding, Joe decided he should follow the same principle and kidnap Emmy Lou so they could be together.
Joe packed up his car with his suitcases and a ladder then drove to Emmy Lou's house and climbed up the ladder into her room. Administering chloroform to Emmy Lou, he dragged her down the ladder and into his car then drove away. As Joe drove away thinking he would elope with her, he didn't realize that Emmy Lou had died the previous night.

Emmy Lou was the woman Joe Hoskins wanted to marry, although her aunts didn't approve of him. Emmy Lou died in her bed one night and the aunts left her there. Having no idea Emmy Lou was dead, Joe climbed up a ladder into her room and administered chloroform to her then dragged her corpse down the ladder and into his car, driving away, thinking they would elope together.

Matilda and another woman were Emmy Lou's aged aunts. Neither aunt like Joe Hoskins and didn't think he was a fit husband for Emmy Lou. Joe was willing to kill both women but instead decided to kidnap Emmy Lou and elope with her. When he arrived and kidnapped Emmy Lou, he didn't realize she was already dead, having died in her bed. Matilda and the other aunt heard Joe drive away from their house but they assumed he'd come to see Emmy Lou but changed his mind because he was afraid of them.
