History:
(Our Love Story#8/1 (fb) - BTS) - Jenny Harris
completed high school but declined progressing to college education
elsewhere (and an eligible man to marry) like all her classmates as she
had to start work to support her ill father.
(Our
Love Story#8/1) - Jenny's mother consoled her at the high school
graduation; Jenny's classmates were cheerful at leaving the small town
to go to college but she was disappointed at staying. Her mother
advised that love would find her. The next day, the High School
Placement Office sent Jenny to a dress shop for a job opportunity
(although she preferred a job with more opportunity to meet men).
There, she met the young and handsome Art Kent, who she didn't realize
was the boss until he cheerfully introduced himself. Impressed, Jenny
looked forward to starting the next day, but then found him aloof.
Nevertheless, he took her out to dinner to talk business. He
complimented her beauty but she naively thought he was being friendly.
At the end, she moved closer to kiss but he didn't reciprocate. Jenny
had become smitten with Art and her heart ached. One day, as a reward
for hard work, Art invited her for a swim and it suddenly led to a
passionate underwater kiss. The couple soon became engaged. Later,
Jenny was invited to her friends' college dance event, secretly out of
sympathy, and she took Art as her date. Her friends were impressed that
she was the first among them to get engaged. As Jenny kissed Art again
outside, she remembered her mother's words.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee, Gene Colan, Dick Ayers.
This story was later reprinted in the same series in #24.
These romance stories often had the flavor of the time in which they were written, and nothing else to tie them into Marvel's sliding timescale. As such, it's likely that the stories took place at the time of publication rather than being part of the sliding timescale.
