cosmoreceptor-rigellian-mechanismRIGELLIAN COSMORECEPTOR

Classification: Extraterrestrial (Rigellian) technology

Creator: Unspecified Rigellians

Possessors: Dagan Shah (aka Sultan Magus) and the city-state of Sharzhad

Location: 10 miles below the surface of Sharzhad in the Middle East

First Appearance: (Referenced, unseen and unidentified); Hulk II#43 (December, 2011)
(seen and identified) Hulk II#45 (February, 2012)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Cosmoreceptor contained the compressed knowledge of Rigel and power cells to initiate and maintain generation of colonization.

The technology can be used to terraform desert land into an advanced, fertile city.

History:
(Hulk II#45 (fb)) <48,000 B.C.> - In an early attempt at conquest of Earth and presumably prior to the development of faster-than-lightspeed travel, the Rigellians sent a Cosmoreceptor pod that contained the compressed knowledge of Rigel and power cells to begin and maintain generation.

The pod's purpose was to prepare a subterranean chamber for the arrival of the stage two cosmo-ligand, which contained 10 million blastocysts chosen for colonization.

This process was initiated for over 100 compatible planets throughout the Edzar Galaxy (see comments).

On Earth, the second stage was damaged by cosmic ray activity. Before this receptor could extend the membrane probe, primitive hominids found the transport and consumed the 10 million potentials.

After 5000 cycles passed with no attempt of contact from a colony to the mother system, another stage two is designated. Ten such intervals (50,000 years) passed with no arrival.

(Hulk II#45 (fb) - BTS) - With 50,000 years having passed with no arrival of a stage two cosmo-ligand pod, physical colonization was abandoned, and a secondary goal was accepted. cosmoreceptor-rigellian-tunnel

To spread Rigellian culture, the homing signal was activated again, and a man, near death in the desert, heard it and contacted the receptacle.

The man was brought to the chamber containing the Cosmoreceptor and was joined to it.

The power and potential within were released into the man, who used his new power to revive his wounded tribe and then activated the bio-lab modules, unwittingly using ones that gathered and studied local fauna: This resulted in hybridization of humans and local fauna.cosmoreceptor-rigellian-shah

Overwriting the native host for Rigellian indoctrination failed, and subsequent attempts to undo the merge also failed, and the native, Dagan Shah, aka Sultan Magus.

Shah subsequently used the Rigellian resources to manipulate hydrogen, creating a new water supply and terraforming the desert while harnessing geothermal power to run the city of Sharzhad and protect it with an impassable dome.

(Hulk II#45) - Smashing through the floor in Sharzhad, the Red Hulk (Thaddeus Ross) joined Aaron Stack/Machine Man/X-51 in falling until approaching the tunnels into the chamber containing the Cosmoreceptor 10 miles below the surface.

Touching the Cosmoreceptor, the Hulk interfaced with its systems and was told the history of the Cosmoreceptor on Earth. Via contact with the Hulk, X-51 learned this as well.

CommentsCreated by Jeff Parker and Patrick Zircher.

Using the Edzar Galaxy while referencing Earth and 100+ compatible planets, and with Rigel-3 being in the Milky Way Galaxy, it makes me wonder if this was just a vague effort to show that alien races wouldn't have the same names for things as humans...meaning that the Rigellians (at least formerly) called the Milky Way Galaxy the Edzar Galaxy?
That's how it seemed to be, anyway.
