STAGE TWO
COSMO-LIGAND

cosmo-ligand-stage2-rigellian-feti-storedClassification: Extraterrestrial (Rigellian) fetuses and technology;
    active at least
48,000 B.C.

Creator: Unspecified Rigellians

Possessors: (At least formerly);
    briefly
primitive hominids on Earth;
    presumably arrived on close to (and possibly more than) 100 other
compatible planets throughout the Edzar Galaxy (see comments)

First Appearance: Hulk II#45 (February, 2012)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Stage Two Cosmo-Ligand transported (and provided life support for) 10 million blastocysts (see comments) chosen for colonization.

    They were sent to worlds to which a Cosmoreceptor pod had previously been sent to prepare a subterranean chamber into which the Cosmo-Ligand would arrive and allow safe development of the embryos/fetuses it contained.

    The Cosmo-Ligand extended a membrane probe that presumably protected it and its contents from external conditions and assaults upon landing.

     Cosmic radiation could damage the Cosmo-Ligand and delay extension of the membrane probe.

cosmo-ligand-stage2-rigellian-ateHistory:

(Hulk II#45 (fb)) <48,000 B.C.> - In an early attempt at conquest of Earth and presumably prior to the development of faster-than-light speed travel, the Rigellians sent a Cosmoreceptor pod that contained the compressed knowledge of Rigel and power cells to maintain generation.

    The pod's purpose was to prepare a subterranean chamber for the arrival of the stage two cosmo-ligand, which contained 10 million blastocysts (see comments) chosen for colonization.

    This process was initiated for over 100 compatible planets throughout the Edzar Galaxy (see comments).

    On Earth, the second stage was damaged by cosmic ray activity.

    Before this receptor could extend the membrane probe, primitive hominids found the transport and consumed the 10 million potentials.

    After 5000 cycles passed with no attempt of contact from a colony to the mother system, another stage two is designated.

    Ten such intervals (50,000 years) passed with no arrival.

    Using the Edzar Galaxy while referencing Earth and 100+ compatible planets, and with Rigel-3 being in the Milky Way Galaxy, it makes me wonder if this was just a vague effort to show that alien races wouldn't have the same names for things as humans...meaning that the Rigellians (at least formerly) called the Milky Way Galaxy the Edzar Galaxy?
    That's how it seemed to be, anyway...

    Blastocysts exist very early in gestation development (just 5-6 days in humans) and are composed of an inner cell mass, which develops into the embryo, and an outer cell mass, which develops into the placenta.

  •     The pictures shown in this issue/profile are more way more advanced than blastocysts. They are either advanced, nearly mature embryos or other fetuses.
    •     In human development, the embryo stage ends around 9 weeks into the pregnancy with a a structure that is recognizable as something akin to a newborn, but they are only 2" long. Obviously, they may be significantly larger or smaller in Rigellians.
    •     In human, fetal development includes development of facial features, sex organs and starting to function like a baby.
    •     Regardless, it makes perfect sense that blastocysts were placed into the Stage Two Cosmo-Ligand, and that by the time they landed on Earth, they were progressing to the later embryo or early fetal stage.
  •     Without any parental support, unless Rigellian newborns are much different than humans, it is unlikely that Rigellian infants could survive on their own, so it would seem extremely likely that they either
    •     Remained in the Cosmo-Ligand until the were able to move sufficiently to sustain themselves and had been given knowledge either by direct mental implantation, computer tutorials, etc.
    •     Had robots to act as caretakers and tutors until they could function on their own.
  •     I would also imagine that the subterranean caverns were terraformed to make a larger home for the young but growing Rigellians
  •     Presumably they would eventually exit the subterranean cavern when they were sufficiently developed to explore and develop their surroundings
  •     That are a lot of possibilities about how they were protected, trained, etc.

    The Cosmoreceptor pods were sent at least 99 other planets, and presumably many (most, if not all) others had the Stage Two Cosmo-Ligand sent to them as well. It is unrevealed what number of these were successfully colonized by Rigellians in this fashion.

    I'd like to see more about other worlds successfully colonized by the Rigellians in this fashion.
