Powers/Abilities: Bat-Mouse is a heroic
criminal hunter who is fixated on making bat-themed gadgets, such as a
bat-computer,
a mini-bat-radar-set and a bat-rope for swinging (and possibly a
bat-utility belt). He is athletically fit but a little clumsy with the
direction of his rope-swinging, and enjoys window-shattering dramatic
entrances and cape-trailing flair. He usually has one fang exposed.
Onlookers have made fun of his overweight appearance, but this stocky
build may be part of his bat-like body.
Height: 4'4"
Weight: 80 lbs.
Eyes: Unrevealed
Hair: Unrevealed
History:
(Marvel Tales II#240/2 (fb) - BTS) - Bat-Mouse
remembered wordy dialog at the passing of Boy-Robin (likely his
sidekick).
(Marvel Tales II#239/2 (fb) - BTS) - Bat-Mouse
hunted the villainous Duckster, who had stolen the vault full of
jokes by big-time TV comedian Duck Hope.
(Marvel Tales II#239/2) -
Clumsy swinging on his bat-rope dropped Bat-Mouse through the bathroom
skylight
of Peter Porker (secretly the adventurer Spider-Ham). Bat-Mouse evaded
Porker's naked demands to repair the damage and declared he was chasing
the fiendish Duckster before swinging away again. Quickly changing into
his superhero outfit, Spider-Ham caught up with Bat-Mouse, but the
bat-rope and
Spider-Ham's webbing tangled, leaving them suspended in the air.
Coincidentally passing below, Duckster seized the opportunity to end
Bat-Mouse, so he rocketed up and cut the webbed-up rope. The dynamic
heroes fell toward the ground.
(Marvel Tales II#240/2) - Spider-Ham quickly cast a
wide web that stopped their fall, but the Duckster had escaped.
Spider-Ham repeated his demand to have his skylight fixed
(inadvertently revealing his secret identity). Hope chanced by and the
heroes dropped down and spoke briefly, but then went off to pursue
Duckster's rocket smoke trail. A departing quip from Spider-Ham led
Hope to discern the Duckster's real identity, and the comedian sped off
to the villain's penthouse and knocked him out. The two heroes soon
caught up, Bat-Mouse again smashing through a window and Hope revealed
Duckster was really his comedy competitor Milton Bearle. The case
closed, Bat-Mouse and Spider-Ham swung away.
Comments: Created by Alan Kupperberg.
Who should Bat-Mouse team up with next? Deadmule? (Or
Pandapool has already been introduced elsewhere, so maybe that one
(resurrected)
against the dreaded Mr. Fleaze?) Or forage
the zoo wastelands with Old Ram Logan (maybe against Mouse-stro, the
hoarding gamma rodent)?
A few clarifiers: Bat-Mouse is, of course, a
parody/homage of DC Comics' legend Batman (in this case with the
classic Kelley Jones long bat ears on the cowl) with Boy-Robin
(mentioned only in-story) as Batman's
sidekick Robin, and the Duckster as Batman's nemesis the Joker. Duck
Hope is
Bob Hope and Milton Bearle is Milton Berle; both real-life comedians
whose esteemed careers each spanned many decades.

CLARIFICATIONS
:
Bat-Mouse has no known connections to:
Comedy great Milton Bearle, notorious for stealing
jokes, took on the identity of the Duckster to further his criminal
activities, making an enemy of heroic vigilante Bat-Mouse. The Duckster
targeted comedy legend Duck Hope and stole the jokes from his vault,
then went back and stole the script for the next night's TV special.
While fleeing in his special car, the Duckster saw Bat-Mouse and
Spider-Ham suspended accidentally in webbed-up rope, and rocketed up
and cut it, causing the duo to fall, and then rocketed away to his
penthouse. The heroes recovered and followed the rocket smoke trail;
meanwhile, Hope had worked out the Duckster's secret identity and also
sped to the villain's penthouse, where he knocked out the criminal.
Bat-Mouse and Spider-Ham soon caught up and Hope unmasked the Duckster
before them.
--Marvel Tales II#239/2 (240/2
Duck Hope was a long-time comedian and keen golfer
who had writers come up with scripts for his TV show. He drove a
stylized "Hope-Mobile" with a giant duck beak. His jokes were stored in
a vault but the villainous Duckster stole them. The thief struck again,
stealing a fresh script for the next night's show, and Hope took the
bad news out on his writer Rob. Hope went out (presumably looking for
the Duckster) when he chanced upon Bat-Mouse and Spider-Ham. He offered
them a lift but they swung away; a departing quip from Spider-Ham made
Hope realize who the Duckster really was, so he sped off to the
penthouse of his comedy competitor Milton Bearle where he knocked his
foe out. Bat-Mouse and Spider-Ham soon turned up, and Hope unmasked the
Duckster. The case closed, the heroes swung away. Hope's TV special
with his characteristic jokes aired the next night, much to the elderly
Aunt May's delight.
