History:
(Captain Marvel III#1 (fb) - BTS) - Zoog worked, alongside Steck'ee, as "very affectionate" waitresses for Glib Arkanian at Glib's Grog and Grub bar and grill on the planet Calculex.

(Captain Marvel III#1 (fb) - BTS) - Alongside Glib Arkanian and Steck'ee, Zoog traveled to D'Bana Crux in search of their friend Genis-Vell  after he had reportedly destroyed the Shi'ar vessel Link 33 and all of the 2000 beings aboard.

(Captain Marvel III#1) - Zoog questioned whether Glib was certain regarding Genis' presence in D'Bana Crux, and Glib informed her that he had reports of him "snackin'" (enjoying the pleasure dens, etc.) there for the last three months. As they searched though distasteful Stim-Dens, Steck'ee insisted that they were not leaving until they found him, and Zoog teased her, asking if she still wanting him for the "Big Trot" (apparently the Kymellian term for sexual intercourse). Steck'ee insisted that they were only friends and that Zoog knew that, and that she was only worried.

They subsequently found Genis on the floor, passed out between two females in similar states. Zoog and Steck'ee picked Genis up, after he made some vague statements about hiding from himself and having not handled things the way his father, Mar-Vell would have, after which he threw up and then apparently passed out again.

(Captain Marvel III#1 (fb) - BTS) - Zoog, Glib, and Steck'ee brought Genis back to Glib's Grog and Grub.

(Captain Marvel III#1) - Glib prepared a pop-stim that woke up and apparently sobered up Genis. Zoog welcomed Genis back to the land of the living, after which Genis detailed the circumstances under which he had inadvertently destroyed the Link 33. Zoog was silent as Steck'ee comforted Genis, reminding him that he had been following the instructions of the Link 33's personnel and as Glib advised Genis that he had been apparently set-up and suggested he travel to Earth to learn more about the situation.zoog-kymellian-captmarviii5-dance

(Captain Marvel III#4) - When Bel-Dann and members of the Kree Peace Battalion arrived at Glib's place, Zoog asked whether the wanted grog, grub, or the big trot. Bel-Dann shoved his pistol in her face and told her to keep her "dirty alien hooves" off of him and then demanded to know where he could find Genis-Vell. Armed with a Badoon Cellular Incinerator, Glib disarmed Bel-Dann and his associates, after which Genis showed up, subdued Bel-Dann and his associates, and forced Bel-Dann to tell him where he could find his leader, Zey-Rogg. zoog-kymellian-captmarviii6-dance

(Captain Marvel III#6 (fb) - BTS / Captain Marvel  IV#14 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Zoog submitted a petition to participate in the Dead Man's Hand -- whose winner would get a chance to enter the realm of death and bring someone back -- with the goal of retrieving her mother as well as regaining the honor of her people and the title she had lost.

(Captain Marvel III#5) - Zoog was dancing on stage at Zoog's Grog and Grub when Jara of Carmondy IV arrived in search of Genis-Vell.

(Captain Marvel III#6) - The Elder of the Universe known as the Grandmaster (En Dwi Gast) arrived at Glib's, asking to see Zoog. While the host assumed he was interested in a coupling, the Grandmaster instead announced that Zoog's petition had been received and that she would be allowed to participate in the Dead Man's Hand.

(
Captain Marvel  IV#14 (fb)) - The Grog and Grub hosted the Dead Man's Hand poker game (which included Genis, Grandmaster, Thanos, and Zoog),

(Captain Marvel  IV#14 (fb) - BTS) - To prevent Zoog from risking her life to retrieve her mother, Genis cheated and won the game. After finding his own mother, Elysius, in the realm of death (having succumbed to a rare space germ she had picked up from him), Genis made an unspecified deal with Thanos to get both Zoog's mother and Elysius out.

(Captain Marvel  IV#33 (fb) - BTS) - Having been reduced to an immaterial form after escaping the Soul Gem, the Magus (Adam Warlock's dark aspect) traveled to Halvacenter on the planet Calculex and began absorbing the life forces of others, taking that ephemeral energy and converting it to the physical. As the number of his victims reached dozens and possibly hundreds, he became known as the "Lurky Man."zoog-kymellian-captmarviv33-full-tiny

(Captain Marvel  IV#32 (fb) - BTS) - The Magus abducted Steck'ee and brought her into his lair in the pits (the now shut-down below-city power generator stations), hoping to draw Genis there. As she had disappeared in the same fashion as the others who had all subsequently turned up dead, Steck'ee was believed to have died.

Due to the number of deaths, Glib closed the Grog and Grub, and he and Zoog resolved to depart Halvacenter, as so many other were doing.

(Captain Marvel  IV#32) - After Genis returned to Halvacenter and found Glib's closed, he entered the building and was blasted at by Glib before dropping his current star-faced appearance and confirming he was Genis. Zoog and Glib revealed the current state of Halvacenter as well as the apparent death of Steck'ee. Zoog offered sympathy to Genis, admitting both that she had known of their closeness and that she had always been a little jealous of...
Genis interrupted and asked who had killed Steck'ee.
zoog-kymellian-captmarviv33-full-post-tiny

(Captain Marvel  IV#33) - Alongside Glib, Zoog accompanied Genis into the streets of Halvacenter. Fearful of the at-that-point-unidentified predator, Zoog asked if they could not just wait until daylight. Genis countered that the longer they waited, the less chance they had to find Steck'ee.

They were subsequently confronted by a local police force led by Constable Pryo; under threat, Zoog and the others identified themselves. Pryo subsequently provided assistance to Genis in hopes that he could help investigate the murders, which led Genis to a psychic confrontation with the Magus.

As Genis prepared to confront the Magus, Zoog noted that they were going with him, but after he noted that if they went they would die, Glib insisted that he and Zoog would stay behind.

(Captain Marvel  IV#34 - BTS) - Genis temporarily defeated the Magus and rescued Steck'ee.

Comments: Created by Fabian Nicieza, Edward Benes, and Mike Sellers.

I asked Fabian about further details on Zoog, the Dead Man's Hand, and the trip to the realm of death, and, unfortunately as it had been over two decades since he had thought about any of it, he did not recall any further details.
Maybe someday we'll see the untold story! Probably not, but one never knows, does one? No, one does not...

Her full name was revealed in Captain Marvel III#6.

In Captain Marvel  IV#32, Zoog noted "These days, Halvacenter makes old port look like paradise..." I'm not familiar enough with the details of Halvacenter to recall what "old port" was, unless it just refers to the previous port city before Halvacenter. zoog-kymellian-captmarviii1-face

Zoog obviously has multiple appearances, but quality images of her are minimal. Full body images are from great distances and are tiny and low-detail. She is often shown either in shadow or in the glow from light sources, so colors are hard to identify. I don't know that we ever see her feet, but she should have hooves...

At least one image shows he with ears that look more scalloped, perhaps more fitting for a reptile or fish?

Note: So, I really don't know what exactly is going on in this panel...
Obviously Genis went to the realm of death to retrieve Zoog's mother.
There are two Kymellians in the bubble surrounding Genis, and the one in the background could be female.
  • Maybe the one in the background is Zoog's mom?
    • Maybe the one in the background is Zoog?
  • Is the male one in the foreground her father?
    •  If not, then who is he?
  • Are they being confronted by non-specific inhabitants of the realm of Death...or were they specific beings?
  • The world may never know!
