Classification: Extraterrestrial (Rigellian) technology

Creator: Unidentified Rigellian(s)

Possessors: Rigellian Inspectors, at least

First AppearanceThor I#134 (November, 1966)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The psyche-search gauge is a handheld device that can lead someone to a specific being by locating his or her life force aura.

The person holding the gauge need only think of the sought being, and a light would almost immediately appear on the gauge, like a beacon, pointing to the target.

History:psyche-search-gauge-rigellian-thor134-given
(
Thor I#130 - BTS) - Not wishing Thor to return and interfere with her plans to colonize Earth, Rigellian Colonizer Tana Nile commanded his then-lover, Jane Foster, to take a long journey and to never return.

(Thor I#134) - After Thor had defeated Ego the Living Planet and saved Rigel-3 from the threat of the Black Galaxy, earning Earth's freedom from Rigellian colonization, a pair of Rigellians returned with Thor to Earth. Thor questioned Tana about his missing lover, Jane Foster, but Tana informed him that she did not know as she only specifically sent her away to parts unknown.

One of the Rigellian Inspectors then gave Thor the psyche-search gauge, explaining how it could lead him to Jane by locating her life force aura.

After the Rigellians' depature, Thor thought about Jane, and he was pleased to see the gauge light up, directing him where to find her.

Thor followed the trail to Transia and the road to Wundagore, and the gauge glowed more brightly, presumably indicating her proximity. Thor then flew to Mount Wundagore where he ultimately located Jane within the citadel of the High Evolutionary.

CommentsCreated by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Vince Colletta.

Thor presumably lost the gauge in the ensuing conflicts with the Knights of Wundagore and then the Man-Beast, as, as far as I know, it was never seen again. Too bad, but it could have been useful!
