ADAM RODERICK

Real Name: Adam Roderick

Identity/Class: Sub-species of humanity (Inhuman) mutate

Occupation: Unrevealed

Group Membership: I.D.I.C.

Affiliations: Russoff the Painter

(fully seen): Karnak I#4 (July, 2016)

Powers/Abilities: After undergoing Terrigenesis, Adam Roderick developed the ability to grant powers in those who believed in him, a form of reality-altering and mind-reading that manifested itself in different ways. While allied with the I.D.I.C. and while being worshiped as a messiah, Roderick granted one man the ability to summon and shoot a telekinetic shotgun, he gave Russoff the power to paint versions of reality based on the thoughts of others and he transformed many others into spider-human hybrids with a hive mind.

Roderick seemed to inspire loyalty in many and may have had some sort of mind control. He also seemed to create a giant eye that connected his followers to it with a tendril.

Roderick also has access to the technology of the I.D.I.C. including hidden bases around the world and teleportation. The limits of his powers are unrevealed.

History: (Karnak I#1 (fb) – BTS) – Sarah and William Roderick raised their son Adam and the boy struggled with allergies.

(Karnak I#6 (fb) – BTS) – Sarah and William raised Adam to believe he was important and that he could be anything he wanted to be.

(Karnak I#1 (fb) – BTS) – After exposure to the Terrigen Cloud, Adam was revealed to be an Inhuman but he didn't exhibit any seeming superhuman powers, though his allergies seemed to be cured. Adam began exhibiting signs of aggression and depression more frequently, however, and he was soon kidnapped by the I.D.I.C.

(Karnak I#6 (fb) – BTS) – Roderick discovered the truth behind his powers, the ability to grant abilities to those who believed in him. The members of the I.D.I.C. began worshiping him as a messiah as he took shelter in the Chapel of the Single Shadow. They taught Roderick about his abilities and taught him the history of the Inhumans.

(Karnak I#2 (fb) – BTS) – Roderick gave the powers of "zen gunnery," or summoning a telekinetic shotgun, to the priest who ran the Berlin branch of the I.D.I.C.

(Karnak I#5 (fb) – BTS) – Roderick gave his follower Russoff the power to paint new realities, accessing people's memories to do so.

(Karnak I#2 – BTS) – Karnak fought and killed the priest in Berlin but not before he was told to find Roderick in the Chapel of the Single Shadow.

(Karnak I#3 – BTS) – Karnak defeated many of the I.D.I.C. members, who seemed to be mystically connected to a giant eyeball that was likely created by Roderick.

(Karnak I#4) – Karnak approached the Chapel, which intel told him was built on the gravesite of dead gods, and inside he battled mutated men who were tethered to a godly eyeball before Adam Roderick revealed himself. Adam explained how the I.D.I.C. had given him purpose, allowing the things he wished to come true. Adam told Karnak to tell Sarah and William that he was happy then he made he and his followers invisible to Karnak before he departed.

(Karnak I#6) – Karnak was teleported to Roderick's new location and there he killed the remaining I.D.I.C. members, who'd all been transformed to look like spiders. Roderick read Karnak's mind, trying to find something he could grant his pursuer, but Karnak touched Roderick, rupturing the part of his brain that controlled his powers then he touched Roderick a second time, giving the boy brain damage. Roderick was returned to his parents and Karnak predicted that he would eventually get better.

Sarah and William Roderick

(Karnak I#1 (fb) – BTS) – Sarah and William Roderick raised their son Adam and the boy struggled with allergies.

(Karnak I#6 (fb) – BTS) – Sarah and William raised Adam to believe he was important and that he could be anything he wanted to be.

(Karnak I#1 (fb) – BTS) - After exposure to the Terrigen Cloud, Adam was revealed to be an Inhuman but he didn't exhibit any superhuman powers, though his allergies seemed to be cured. Adam began exhibiting signs of aggression and depression more frequently, however, and then he was kidnapped by the I.D.I.C. The Rodericks reached out to S.H.I.E.L.D. for help and they were taken to a sub-station in Svalbard by Agents Phil Coulson and Jemma Simmons.

(Karnak I#1) – The Rodericks explained their situation to Karnak, who promised to save Adam in exchange for one million dollars from S.H.I.E.L.D., and he made the Rodericks promise that Adam wouldn't be returned to them until Karnak deemed he was ready and they agreed reluctantly. Karnak exposed a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent as an agent of the I.D.I.C. and he tortured him in front of the Rodericks to get intel.

(Karnak I#6) – Karnak returned Adam to the Rodericks but the boy had lost his powers seemingly and had brain damage. As promised, they gave Karnak one of their most precious memories, a photograph of a wonderful day they had had with Adam.

Russoff the Painter

(Karnak I#5 (fb) – BTS) – Russoff was married for five years and cheated on his spouse for four of them. He then had major drug and drinking problems, once drinking so heavy that he passed blood. In one fight outside his ramshackle apartment, he may have killed a man in a conflict involving off the police but he had no clear memories of the event later. He held his daughter in his arms as she died. In time, he united with the I.D.I.C. and he was granted reality-altering "painting" powers by Adam Roderick, the Inhuman that the I.D.I.C.. considered to be their messiah.

(Karnak I#5) – At the Chapel of the Single Shadow, Russoff was taken in by S.H.I.E.L.D. and then questioned by Karnak. Russoff used his painting powers to create a forest environment, which he then painted to burn down. He painted the Tower of Shadows, using memories from Karnak's brain, then painted his old apartment. As he taunted Karnak about his own flaws, Russoff bragged about Adam's messianic powers then Karnak violently killed Russoff with a single blow.
