History:

(Shogun Warriors#1 (fb)) – Many ages ago, a group from the planet Myndai began a war of conquest and expansion across the cosmos. Opposed by the Followers of the Light, the Great Chaos War raged throughout the galaxy. One member, Maur-Konn, along with his loyal lieutenants, launched an attack over what would become the Pacific Ocean on Earth. When Maur-Konn was shot down, the Followers of the Dark retreated, allowing the Followers of the Light to settle and establish a base on the planet.

(Shogun Warriors#1 - BTS) – The Followers of the Dark had no contact with Maur-Konn as he awoke from his slumber beneath the waves and launched an attack against the people of Earth. The monster Rokk-Korr was unleashed as their tool of vengeance (see comments).

(Shogun Warriors#2) – The Followers of the Dark’s origins were discussed by Dr. Tambura.

(Shogun warriors#3) – Lt. Magar argued that Maur-Konn must stay true to the old methods of creating monsters and to shun science. He spied the creation of the Mech-Monster, and he was more angry than fearful about the creature’s existence.

(Shogun Warriors#4) – Maur-Konn and Lt. Magar argued over the former's decision to use pure science to defeat the Shogun Warriors. Ignoring the latter’s protests, the Mech-Monster was completed with the aid of the Techno-Mages. Lt. Magar snuck in later that night and exposed the mechanical monster to the Dark Pool of Life, turning the machine into a being of flesh.

(Shogun Warriors#5) – Maur-Konn planned to have Magar killed, but relented when Genji was captured. The traitorous underling slinked away, planning his revenge.

(Shogun Warriors#6) – Lt. Magar broke Genji out of her cell and planned to sacrifice her to the Dark Pool, implying that her death would empower the Followers of the Dark. However, the pool escaped the confines of the pit and consumed Magar before going on a rampage throughout the base. It was possibly destroyed when the volcano collapsed.

(Shogun Warriors#7) – Deena expressed disbelief over such groups like the Followers of the Dark existing.

Comments: Created by Doug Moench (writer), Herb Trimpe (pencils) and Dan Greenwriter (inks).

A lot of speculation here folks...

We never saw most of the monsters being built/created, so it is possible that the Followers had some of them ready for an invasion.

The group was only referred to as “The Followers of Darkness” by Deena, and from her tone (she doesn’t call the Followers of the Light by their proper name either) it could be seen either informal labeling or just being wrong. Also, Maur-Konn seems to be the only one calling the shots, at least on Earth, with no mention of any higher-ups. Dr. Tambura did mention them as a group, but Maur-Konn was the only one we ever saw, plus we never saw him taking orders from anyone.

As for their base, Maur-Konn seemed to be the only operative on Earth, with a heavy emphasis they were out in space. Of course, it is possible that the Followers had been beaten (Maur-Konn being in hibernation for a few millennia) and Maur-Konn’s followers didn’t know this.

Lt. Magar was upset with Maur-Konn, assuming that his actions were going against perhaps the tenets of their philosophy, and it was implied that Maur-Konn's actions would offend someone, but whoever that may be was never named.

Following issue 7, (and told in flashback), Maur-Konn is the one calling the shots, suggesting that the Followers of Darkness/the Dark are either dead or not concerning themselves with him anymore.

Lt. Magar

Lt. Magar was Maur-Konn’s second in command. A schemer and fanatic, he held no faith in what Maur-Konn called science, preferring the arcane arts instead.

Techno-Mages

Techno-Mages

Neither of the two techno-mages was named, but both scientists seemed loyal to Maur-Konn.
