After his transformation he had increased strength, as well as no longer needing to sleep, eat or breathe. Despite this last limitation, he could still smoke a pipe. In combat, he often wielded a crystal spear.

History:

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#8 (fb) - BTS) - Kalibar enlisted in the Royal Guard as a young man and served for many years under the previous king.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#8 (fb)) - Kalibar attended a party being held during a lull in the war. He spoke of his wife and infant children fondly during the event, something that may have prompted the princes to order him to stay as they received word of a Chaos demon in the outlying countryside.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#1) - Kalibar, after the war, evenly spent his time between the princes and his home. During a wrestling match between the princes, he shouted his encouragement to the both of them. When Zardeth appeared, Kalibar helped form a defensive line in front of the princes. Ordered away, he went home, musing on his misgivings about the stranger. After Crystar’s injury at Moltar’s hands, Kalibar spoke strongly for rebellion with the other captains. When the wizard Ogeode appeared and offered them a chance to defeat the forces of Chaos, Kalibar accepted. He helped drive the Magma Men out of Galax.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#2) - Kalibar went with Crystar in hopes of finding a cure for the injured Stalax. Attacked by Magma Men in the slums, he fought bravely as Ambara slipped away to find the cure. When the cure turned out to be Ogeode’s daughter Ika, Kalibar was less than impressed. He was stunned as Ika and Crystar both vanished in a flash of light.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#3) - Kalibar volunteered to go in search of the missing prince. Arriving in the home of Dr. Strange, Kalibar was at first taken aback by the new surroundings, but he overcame his shock when a group of Magma Men arrived after them. He stayed with Ika and prevented her from unleashing any new spells as Dr. Strange and Ogeode helped send them back.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#4) - After being banished from the city for fighting, Kalibar spent his remaining time telling his two children as to why he had to leave in a story. When they both were asleep, Kalibar spent the remaining time with his wife.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#5) - Before Crystar and Moltar entered into talks, Kalibar spent his time smoking his pipe with Ogeode. He went with Crystar and acted as the honor guard as the prince spoke with his brother and uncle. When the Crystal Palace and Caverns of Chaos were relocated next to each other, Kalibar stayed with Feldspar and helped to restore order.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#7) - Upon being told about the upcoming attack by the Green Hill People, Kalibar urged Crystar to return. After driving them off and personally injuring Malachon, Kalibar bristled with anger as Feldspar threatened to arrest his wife for her remarks about the ineffectualness of the arriving help from Galax. He managed to calm down long enough to say his goodbyes before setting sail with the rest of Crystar’s forces toward the Council of Order.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#8) - Kalibar silently stood by as Crystar explained the reasons for his day of mourning.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#9) - Kalibar was among the Council’s defenders when Zardeth and Malachon attacked.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#10) - Kalibar sailed back with the rest of the forces and once again entered into talks. When the combined Magma Men and Green Hill People attacked, Kalibar helped to defend the city. He mourned with the rest of them over the apparent death of his friend Koth.

(Saga of Crystar the Crystal Warrior#11) - Kalibar fought bravely as the final battle between Chaos and Order raged. When Malachon and Zardeth died, Kalibar celebrated Crystar’s assuming the throne with his family.

Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, John Romita, Jr., and Jim Shooter. Concept expanded on by Mary Jo Duffy and Ricardo Villamonte.

Issue #4 was a bedtime story told by Kalibar to his children, so the events within and how they transpired is suspect.

Kalibar was absent during the events in issue #6; perhaps he was taking care of Warbow?

His children are not easily identified, and there is a coloring mistake on the last page of Issue #11 (the blond in purple is Dyoahn while the other blond is supposed to be the brunette Bahb). Taken from the order in which he talks to his family in issue #11, I believe the characters have been properly identified.

All of Crystar's captain's were made into action figures, but they were not packaged the same as normal and came with deluxe sets. Kalibar came with an accessory set.

Extra special thanks to Madison Carter for clarifying this question - yes, Crystar and all related characters are in fact Marvel owned and created. You might remember these guys from the Remco toy line, but the toys were a tie-in to the comic and not vice versa.
