DOCTOR SWAINE

Real Name: Brian Swaine

Identity/Class: Human mutant

Occupation: Doctor/scientist

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: Sharon Ginsburg (he attempted to save her life), Solomon O'Sullivan (brought a patient to him), Professor X (colleague), X-Statix (El Guapo, The Orphan, Venus Dee Milo, Vivisector);

Enemies: Bad Guy (well, he attacked the lab anyway)

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Professor Xavier’s lab in an unrevealed location, presumably Santa Monica, California, since X-Statix regularly visited the lab, although it's possible they could have teleported in.

First Appearance: X-Statix#6 (February, 2003)

Powers/Abilities: Doctor Swaine had an amphibious appearance. He had gills slightly below his ears and webbed hands. He also had pale green skin. Judging by his appearance, Doctor Swaine could presumably breathe underwater and swim faster than the average human.

History: (X-Statix#6) - As Venus Dee Milo used an I.M.A. machine to traverse various dimensions in an attempt to locate her family, Doctor Swaine operated the machine while Professor Xavier watched. Inside the machine, Venus accidentally contacted one of the “Dark Dimensions,” causing the machine to explode and release one of the beings from that dimension. As the “alien” tried to escape, Professor Xavier suggested that they kill it, but Doctor Swaine argued that they should study it instead. Professor Xavier promptly shot it, saying that they could study it when it was dead. Later, as Professor X and Doctor Swaine were dissecting the “alien,” an alarm sounded in Professor Xavier’s “costume room.” where Professor X housed all of his specially created mutant power-harnessing costumes. Upon questioning one of the guards, the Professor learned that someone had broken into the lab and stolen nearly all of the specially created costumes.

(X-Statix#7) - As the costume thief rampaged through the city calling himself Bad Guy, the Orphan visited Professor Xavier’s lab and asked for a new costume himself, one that could temper out his emotions. Professor X, like the general public, believed that the Bad Guy was the Orphan in disguise, and declined his offer. The Orphan left the lab, as Professor X, Doctor Swaine, and a small group of guards looked on. Later, as X-Statix battled the Bad Guy, Professor X and Doctor Swaine discovered that the “deceased alien” that they were dissecting, was in fact just the shed skin of the alien, and that the alien had been the one who had stolen the costumes.

(X-Statix#8) - After the defeat of the Bad Guy, Solomon O’Sullivan arrived at the lab, begging X-Statix’s help in reviving the injured Sharon Ginsburg. Doctor Swaine and his medical staff rushed to the scene and wheeled her away on a gurney, intent on saving her life.

(X-Statix#11) - When new X-Statix team member El Guapo was injured on a mission, Doctor Swaine attended to his recovery.
