Powers/Abilities: Revenant could psionically draw on the guilt, grief and unresolved memories of her victims and create convincing avatars of people from their past. These manifestations could confront, frighten and apparently physically attack the victim as though they were real. Revenant could induce these nightmares without direct physical contact and apparently at some distance. Paired with the powerful telepath Bogan, Revenant's illusions could terrify thousands of people with recurring nightmares. Her powers were considerably less effective against people who had already confronted their guilt. She was an experienced hand-to-hand combatant and could fight effectively even without using her psychic abilities.

History:

(X-Men: Earth's Mutant Heroes I#1 - BTS) - Revenant was a member of the same Neo clan as Ransom Sole. When Sole decided to go rogue and leave his sister Domina, she decided to jump ship with him.

(Uncanny X-Men I#383 (fb) - BTS) - Revenant and her Neo allies Big Casino, Bludgeon, Cudgel and Manacle accompanied Sole to Moscow where he opened The Slash! Revenant served as greeter and doorkeeper of this exclusive nightclub that secretly doubled as a front for Sole's criminal dealings, including Tullamore Voge's interdimensional slave trade. Among those caught in Sole's orbit were the reality-altering mutant Sketch and Russian intelligence officer Major Debra Levin.

(Uncanny X-Men I#383 (fb) ) - Revenant worked the entrance of The Slash! when the X-Men infiltrated the club looking for Levin. She admitted Beast and the disguised Gambit, Cable and Phoenix while Storm remained outside. After Manacle, Bludgeon and Cudgel failed to stop Storm, Revenant confronted her personally. Revenant asked Storm whether she had ever killed anyone or known anyone who died violently, then forced Ororo to relive some of the most painful losses of her life. Storm was attacked by an avatar of the man she had killed in self-defense as a child and then confronted by images of her dead parents. Badly shaken, Storm used lightning to cover her escape.

(Uncanny X-Men I#383 (fb) - BTS) - Revenant was injured by Storm's lightning attack.

(Uncanny X-Men I#383) - Later that night Revenant, her right arm now in a sling, admitted Simyon Kurasov when he appeared to deliver a captured Storm to Sole. During the X-Men's counterattack, Revenant noticed Sole's captive mutant Sketch was using her powers to aid the X-Men by trapping Tullamore Voge and his entourage. She threatened to punish the young girl, but was opposed by Jean Grey. Revenant immediately tried to overwhelm Jean with her powers, but found Phoenix was impervious. The powerful psi then turned the full focus of her powers on her opponent, allowing Revenant full access to all the tragedies in her life. Overwhelmed and terrified, Revenant ran off. She was later teleported away by her fellow Neo, the Shockwave riders Farahd and Galadriel who evacuated Sole and his underlings through a transmat portal.

(X-Treme X-Men I#32 (fb) - BTS) - Revenant and several of her former fellow Neo eventually came under the employ of the malevolent psychic presence Elias Bogan. In Valle Soleada, California, Bogan sought to acquire homes from baseline human residents and replace them with a largely mutant population.

(X-Treme X-Men I#32 (fb) - BTS) - When Marie D'Ancanto's uncle refused an offer to sell his home, both he and Marie began suffering terrible nightmares. The harassment continued until her uncle finally signed over the house, at which point the dreams immediately stopped.

(X-Treme X-Men I#32) - As the buyer left the property, Revenant was seen watching from nearby with a satisfied smile.

(X-Treme X-Men I#33) - Revenant targeted Rogue next. Standing on the beach outside Rogue's home at night, she invaded the former X-Man's dreams. Rogue imagined herself living happily as Anna Raven until her body transformed into Mystique's. Hearing Mystique's voice in her head, Rogue was forced to watch herself murder Gambit, Bishop, Sage and Storm. Revenant used Rogue's complicated feelings toward Mystique and the destructive nature of her former absorption powers to turn the dream into a personalized nightmare.

(X-Treme X-Men I#34 - BTS) - The next night, Revenant returned to Rogue's home in Valle Solleada and focused her powers on Bishop, Evangeline Whedon and Sage who were inside investigating the forced real estate deals. Revenant's illusions caused them to fight each other.

(X-Treme X-Men I#34) - Revenant was so enthralled by the altercation she had caused, she failed to notice Rogue had tracked her down. She tracked Revenant down and attacked her on the beach. Revenant quickly recovered from Rogue's first blow and taunted her over the recent loss of her mutant powers. Rogue responded by beating Revenant down and applying a sleeper hold, warning that Revenant had not yet seen what the Mystique in her soul was capable of. Before Rogue could finish the fight, Manacle intervened with his razor-edged restraints and hurled Rogue away. Revenant angrily complained that Manacle had spoiled her fun, though he responded that he had just saved her life.

(X-Treme X-Men I#34 - BTS) - Rogue followed the van carrying Manacle and Revenant as it rushed back to Bogan's base underneath the X-Corp building in Valle Soleada. They disappeared into the sublevels, while Rogue crashed into the X-Corps building looking for answers.

(X-Treme X-Men I#40) - Revenant led Bludgeon, Cudgel, Manacle and Rolling Thunder in an ambush on Bishop near the California coast. After the others battered and restrained him, Revenant planted a boot on Bishop's head and announced that he belonged to her. Bishop had deliberately allowed the group to surround him, however, and used the energy he had absorbed from Rolling Thunder to break Manacle's chains and scatter Bogan's thugs. Bishop was ultimately incapacitated by Bogan through his thrall, Rachel Summers. Bishop was taken prisoner.

(X-Treme X-Men I#41) - Revenant remained at Bogan's hidden base while Bishop was drugged with Rave and psychically conditioned. Alongside Manacle, Bludgeon, Cudgel and Rolling Thunder, she later watched as Bogan presented the armed and brainwashed Bishop as his newest weapon against the X-Men.

(X-Treme X-Men I#43) - Revenant helped defend Bogan's underground complex when Rogue, Shadowcat, Sage and Magma infiltrated it. Revenant figured Shadowcat had been subdued by her teammate Manacle and got ready to enjoy torturing the young X-Man. However, Kitty quickly recovered and proceeded to swiftly pay Revenant back for the misery she had caused her friends. Revenant was put out of commission when Rogue dumped the heavy body of Manacle on top of her.

(X-Men: Giant-Size I#1 - BTS) - The Evolutionaries embarked on a worldwide purge of the Neo, exterminating the race wherever they could find them. Revenant was among the Neo believed to have been killed during the genocide.

Comments: Created by Chris Claremont, Adam Kubert, Tim Townsend & Dan Panosian.

Oh, the Neo... It almost feels like their creator Chris Claremont had a hard time keeping track of the half a dozen subgroups he pumped out during his brief return to the X-Books in 2000. Revenant looks like a goth, but she's not a member of the Goth. Her mental powers make her a natural fit for the Lost Souls, but instead she wound up as a nightclub doorbitch in Moscow. Beggars can't be choosers. Claremont later brought Revenant's unnamed subgroup of Neo back as servants of Elias Bogan, trading in Big Casino for the Vietnamese mutant Rolling Thunder. Just how Bogan managed to secure the Neo's services is probably a mystery for the ages.

Revenant's presumed death during the Evolutionaries' extermination of the Neo has never been reversed.
