History:
(Psi-Force I#11 (fb)) - Emmett Proudhawk grew up on the Eagle Canyon Apache Reservation in Arizona with his younger brother Eugene. They were very close to their grandmother, Emily. When Emmett was 11 years old and Eugene was 9, Eugene fell into a river but Emmett saved him from drowning.
Once when they were children, Eugene made fun of grandmother Emily's shamanic rituals. When she overheard him and told him he'd have no suppper, Emmett stepped in and claimed he'd been the one who said it, shielding his brother from punishment.
Some time later, teenager Derek Shiningstar tried to steal Emily's car. Emmett and Eugene stopped him and afterwards the three of them became friends. Learning Derek's mother was dead and his father was a harsh disciplinarian, Emmett took pity on him and became like a big brother to Derek. From then on, Emmett, Eugene and Derek were inseparable.
As adults, Emmett and Derek both joined the C.I.A. They encouraged Eugene to join them in the agency but Eugene refused, electing to remain on the reservation and learn how to be a shaman like his grandmother.
(Psi-Force I#16 (fb) - BTS) - While in the C.I.A., Emmett worked with Dr. Emilio Licciardo.
(Psi-Force I#2 (fb) - BTS) - One of Emmett's best friends in the C.I.A. was Paul "Skipper" Crawforst.
(Psi-Force I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Emmett was also friends with Colby Shaw, Paul's ex-husband. Colby ran Sanctuary, a home for teenage runaways in San Francisco, California.
(Psi-Force I#1 (fb)) - The C.I.A. assigned Emmett to explore young people who scored unusually high on ESP tests. Emmett began monitoring them in a secret file; these teenagers included Thomas Boyd, Michael Crawley, Edward Finelli, Joan Grant, Anastasia Inyushin, Tyrone Jessup, Kathy Ling and Wayne Tucker. Emmett went back to the reservation to meet with his grandmother Emily, who believed Emmett had been gifted with "spirits," but Emmett privately considered her ideas mere superstition.
(Psi-Force I#1 (fb)) - In 1985, Emmett had a dream in which he saw a brilliant flash of white light in the sky. Then he saw five rabbits being protected by a hawk from a pack of wolves. When the wolves killed the hawk, the rabbits joined together and transformed into an immense hawk that scattered the wolves.
(Psi-Force Annual I#1 (fb)) - Emmett shared his dream with his grandmother Emily, who suggested it was a prophetic vision.
(Psi-Force I#1 (fb)) - On July 22, 1986, Emmett was at his office in Washington D.C. when the White Event occurred. Emmett realized it was the event he'd foreseen in his vision and he soon discovered he had developed telepathic powers.
On July 23, 1986, Emmett began checking up on the teenagers in his file, believing they had developed paranormal abilities such as his own, he was shocked to discover his file had been leaked. Emmett used his telepathy to "flush" for information from his fellow agents; although he didn't learn who had leaked the file, he learned the teenagers in the file had also begun exp Emmett decided to go rogue and defend the teenagers in his file from being killed or exploited.
(Psi-Force I#3 (fb) - BTS/Psi-Force Annual I#1 (fb)) - On July 24, 1986, Emmett monitored Tyrone Jessup in Scarsdale, New York; Tyrone had gained the parability to emit an electromagnetic being similar to an astral body from his own form. Emmett placed a psychic impulse in Tyrone's mind so that he would travel to the Sanctuary house in San Francisco. Emmett believed he could best assist the teenagers with their abilities far from prying eyes.
On July 28, 1986, Emmett went to Chicago, Illinois and observed Wayne Tucker, who had developed a parability virtually identical to Emmett's own. Emmett compelled Wayne to go to Sanctuary.
(Psi-Force I#1 (fb)/Psi-Force Annual I#1 (fb)) - Accompanied by Derek Shiningstar, Emmett went to Fairfield, Connecitcut on July 30, 1986 to monitor Thomas Boyd. However, unknown to him, Derek was conspiring against him; fearful of the paranormal teenagers, Derek had leaked Emmett's file to a number of corporations and governments, hoping one of them would eliminate the teenagers. Wishing to keep Boyd under his own control, Derek left the murdered body of another person to trick Emmett into thinking Boyd was dead. Although Emmett apparently did not suspect Derek, he broke off further communications with him.
(Psi-Force I#10 (fb)) - Emmett shared details about what he knew about the White Event and the teenagers on his list with his grandmother, Emily.
(Psi-Force I#3 (fb) - BTS/Psi-Force Annual I#1 (fb)) - On July 31, 1986, Emmett monitored Michael Crawley in Bennington, Vermont and compelled him to go to Sanctuary. Emmett attempted to monitor Joan Grant and Edward Finelli, but Finelli had gone into hiding to evade the killers Shiningstar had placed on his trail; he found Joan Grant had been killed.
On August 2, 1986, Emmett found Kathy Ling in Santa Monica, California and compelled her to go to Sanctuary.
(Psi-Force I#1 (fb) - BTS) - On August 3, 1986, Emmett went to Sanctuary where he found Crawley, Jessup, Ling and Tucker had all safely arrived. Needing to retrieve Anastasia, the last name in his file, Emmett asked Colby Shaw to make sure Wayne Tucker didn't leave, as he was the one most anxious to depart.
(Psi-Force Annual I#1 (fb) - BTS) - Before departing, Emmett updated his files on his progress in locating the teenagers. It included his belief that Joan Grant and Thomas Boyd were dead. As in his dream he'd seen only five rabbits, Emmett wondered what would happen if he located both Edward Finelli and Anastasia Inyushin and whether one of them would have be excluded from the group. In his files, Emmett called the teenagers "Psi-Force" and dubbed Tyrone "Voyager," Kathy "Shockwave," Michael "Salvo," Wayne "Network," Thomas "Syphon," and Anastasia "Healer." Emmett stored the computer dics in a duffel bag he hid in Sanctuary's attic.
(Psi-Force Annual I#1 (fb)) - Using his C.I.A. resouces, on August 4, 1986, Emmett violated Soviet airspace and broke into the Siberian Project, then liberated Anastasia Inyushin from their custody and journeyed back to San Francisco to unite her with the other four teenagers.
(Psi-Force I#1) - On August 5, 1986, Emmett and Anastasia arrived in the United States via Mendocino, where Tyrone and Kathy were waiting nearby in a boat, but the K.G.B. were close behind them. Emmett was injured by the K.G.B. but Anastasia using her psychic healing power to heal him. On the docks, Serge Vladimiroff's K.G.B. agents attempted to kill Emmett so they could recover Anastasia; Emmett tried to stop them using his telepathy but although he controlled the minds of Vladimiroff and most of his men, one of the K.G.B. agents was unaffected and broke the others from Emmett's control. The agents fired at them and Emmett was hit by a bullet. When Tyrone alerted Kathy to the danger facing Emmett and Anastasia, Kathy used her telekinesis to shatter the pier the K.G.B. were standing upon. This gave Emmett and Anastasia an opportunity to swim to Kathy in the boat. Emmett collapsed, weakened from the gunshot he'd suffered, but Anastasia again healed his injury.
In the early hours of August 6, 1986, Emmett united the five teens (Psi-Force) at Sanctuary and explained the vision he'd had the previous year and the importance for the five teens to remain together like the rabbits in his vision. He emphasized how important Wayne was to the team given his telepathic powers, identifying him as a "keystone," but Wayne remained the one most reluctant to remain with the team.
(Psi-Force I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Unknown to the five teens at the time, Emmett placed a compulsion within their minds that prevented them from parting from each other, believing they'd be safest if they remained together.
(Psi-Force I#1) - Afraid that her presence was endangering the others, Anastasia fled Sanctuary. When Emmett discovered her missing and confronted the other teens, they refused to get invovled so he used his telepathy to force them into assisting him in searching for her. Unfortunately, Anastasia was tracked by Mind-Wolf, a K.G.B. paranormal who wanted to recapture Anastasia and kill the others. Emmett fought Mind-Wolf but Mind-Wolf used his own psychic powers to kill him. After his death, Tucker felt a compulsion to take Emmett's medallion, evidently due to a final "push" Emmett had given him. When the five teens focused their disparate psychic parabilities together upon the medallion they discovered they could summon forth a psychic construct called the Psi-Hawk, who had Emmett's physical appearance. The Psi-Hawk destroyed Mind-Wolf's mind.
(Psi-Force I#2) - Psi-Force brought Emmett's corpse back to Sanctuary.
(Psi-Force I#10 (fb) - BTS) - The U.S. Government returned Emmett's body to his family at Eagle Canyon, where he was buried.
